The aim of this study was to present the situation of women with disabilities on the labour market. Women with disabilities suffer from social and professional discrimination. They are discriminated because of their gender and disability. The Q1 Labour Force Participation Study (2013) showed that, in Poland, labour force participation for men and women with disabilities was 29.4% and 14.7%, respectively, while the unemployment rate was 16.1% for men and 17.2% for women. Quarterly information on employment, unemployment and economic inactivity was gathered from a Labour Force Survey in the first quarter of 2013; data from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy were also included. The participants of the survey were 15 years old or older; they were members of a sample household. The methodology was based on definitions recommended by the International Labour Office and Eurostat. It is important that women with disabilities are substantially less professionally active, while the unemployment rate for them is only slightly higher.

This study investigates the perspectives of young women with disabilities in Jordan, focusing on their self-regulation. 16 young women, aged 18-22, with visual (VI), hearing (HI) impairments and physical disability (PD), were recruited using a snowballing technique. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, which were analysed thematically. Two main themes emerged where findings show that disability affects self-regulation where there was an overlap between local cultural perspectives in understanding disability of young women, disability and gender in understanding self-regulation of women with disabilities. Disability and gender also influence women with disabilities self-regulation with respect to self-learning, setting goals, self-evaluation, self-monitoring, making decisions and self-reinforcement. Findings will add to the current debate and efforts to understand disabilities in women and lay the groundwork for initiating a campaign in Jordan concentrating on the importance of self-regulation in young women with disabilities.

Artykuł prezentuje problematykę społecznego wizerunku kobiet z niepełnosprawnością. Niepełnosprawność jest traktowana jako poważny problem o charakterze społecznym, ponieważ ograniczenia sprawności dotyczą dużej części każdego narodu. Przedstawiono różne sposoby rozumienia niepełnosprawności, przytaczając wybrane ujęcia definicyjne. Scharakteryzowano wizerunek jako zjawisko psychospołeczne, opisując jego istotę i omawiając różne aspekty. Analizie poddano psychologiczną i społeczną wartość wizerunku oraz znaczenie, jakie jest mu nadawane w różnych dziedzinach ludzkiego życia. Podjęto tematykę specyficznych cech image’u osób z niepełnosprawnościami. Artykuł omawia także zjawisko kobiecości, traktowanej jako ważny element wizerunku kobiet. Wskazano podstawowe elementy składowe kobiecości oraz zależność, jaka zachodzi między wyglądem kobiecego ciała a poczuciem pełnowartościowości w roli płciowej. Prześledzono ewolucję rozumienia kobiecości na przestrzeni dziejów. Przeanalizowano znaczenie, jakie dla poczucia kobiecości mają kondycja i prezencja ciała, a następnie zaprezentowano wybrane zagadnienia społecznego odbioru kobiet z niepełnosprawnościami. W zaprojektowanych badaniach autorka starała się znaleźć odpowiedzi na 8 szczegółowych pytań badawczych, dotyczących wartości, jaką osoby badane przyznają kobietom z niepełnosprawnościami w różnych rolach życiowych. Ujawniono, że objęte badaniami osoby bez niepełnosprawności na ogół bardzo wysoko oceniają atrakcyjność kobiet z ograniczeniami oraz że ocena ta nie różni się w grupach kobiet i mężczyzn.
The article presents the issue of the social image of women with disabilities. Disability is treated as a serious social problem because limits of mobility apply to a large part of every nation. Various ways of understanding disability are presented, citing selected definitions. The image was characterized as a psychosocial phenomenon, describing its essence and discussing various aspects. The psychological and social value of the image as well as the meaning which is given to it in various areas of human life have been analyzed. The subject of specific features of the image of people with disabilities was discussed. The article also discusses the phenomenon of femininity, treated as an important element of women’s image. The basic elements of femininity as well as the relationship between the appearance of the female body and the sense of fullness in the sexual role are indicated. The evolution of the understanding of femininity throughout history has been traced. The significance of the condition and presence of the body for the sense of femininity was analyzed, and then selected issues of the social reception of women with disabilities were presented. In the designed studies, the author sought to find answers to 8 detailed research questions regarding the value that the respondents attribute to women with disabilities in various life roles. It was revealed that people without disabilities covered by the study generally highly appreciate the attractiveness of women with limitations, and that this assessment does not differ in the groups of women and men.

Its relevance comes from the growing need to understand the legal construction linked to the right to health of one of the vulnerable groups in society. Attention herein is directed to the existing legal framework in the People with Disabilities Act, the Health Act, the Health Insurance Act and the Medical-Treatment Facilities Act, as well as separate provisions in other legal acts. The analysis is accompanied by conclusions and suggestions for optimising practice and legislation.

Współczesne organizacje coraz chętniej korzystają z nowatorskich form wsparcia swoich pracowników. Jednym z kluczowych instrumentów oddziaływania jest mentoring. W literaturze przedmiotu wskazywana jest jego rola zarówno w rozwoju kariery naukowej studentów, jak i zawodowej pracowników. System mentoringowy dobrze się sprawdza w odniesieniu do osób z niepełnosprawnościami. W artykule podjęto temat mentoringu kobiet z niepełnosprawnością w środowisku pracy. Skoncentrowano się na celach, zadaniach i korzyściach mentoringu w miejscu pracy w odniesieniu do kobiet z niepełnosprawnością. Zaprezentowano cele mentoringu kobiet z niepełnosprawnością z punktu widzenia organizacji, mentora i klientek. Przybliżono zadania mentora kobiet z niepełnosprawnością, a także korzyści płynące z mentoringu kobiet z niepełnosprawnością, uwzględniające trzy perspektywy: mentee, mentora i organizacji. W zakończeniu podsumowano wyniki przeprowadzonych analiz.
Contemporary organizations are increasingly eager to use innovative forms of support for their employees. Mentoring is such a key impact instrument. In the literature on the subject, its role in the development of the scientific career of students or professional employees is increasingly indicated. The mentoring system works well for people with disabilities. The article deals with the topic of mentoring women with disabilities in the work environment. It focuses on the goals, tasks and benefits of mentoring in the workplace for women with disabilities. The study presents the goals of mentoring women with disabilities from the point of view of the organization, mentor and mentees. It also includes the tasks of mentoring women with disabilities, as well as the benefits of mentoring women with disabilities, taking into account three perspectives of the mentee, mentor and organization. Finally, the results of the analyzes are summarized.

Macierzyństwo oraz praca zawodowa to dwa główne czynniki wpływające na obciążenie kobiet. Codzienna opieka nad dziećmi zajmuje im około trzykrotnie więcej czasu niż mężczyznom, a niewystarczający zakres formalnej opieki nad dziećmi stanowi dodatkowo poważną przeszkodę dla uczestnictwa kobiet w rynku pracy. Szczególną grupą są kobiety niepełnosprawne, które w związku l dysfunkcją organizmu są postrzegane jako mniej niezależne. Niepełnosprawność wpływa również na ograniczenie dostępu do wszelkiego rodzaju usług (związanych z rynkiem pracy, usług socjalnych itd.) oraz na postrzeganie tych kobiet jako niezdolnych do posiadania potomstwa i sprawdzania się w roli matki. Konsekwencją takiego stanu rzeczy jest marginalne traktowanie kwestii związanych z ich radzeniem sobie zarówno w roli matki, jak i pracownicy Celem artykułu jest analiza dostępnej literatury dotyczącej problematyki młodych matek, pełnosprawnych i niepełnosprawnych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wpływu rodzicielstwa na aktywność zawodową.
Maternity and occupational activity are two main factors that affect load women experience. They devote three times more time to everyday care of children than men do; insufficient availability of formal care of children also influences women's participation in the labour market. Women with disabilities are special in this respect. They are seen as less independent, which also limits their access to many services (e.g., related to the labour market and social services). Those women are also seen as not able to have children and be a mother. "mis results in issues related to being a mother and a worker being neglected. This article analyses literature on the problems of young mothers, with and without disabilities, with particular emphasis on the impact of parenthood on their economic activity.

This article analyses and attempts to systematize barriers that may block the undertaking and effective performance of entrepreneurial tasks by women with disabilities. It has been noticed that these obstacles are of diverse nature . The second issue is the challenges faced by women with disabilities while taking a decision on starting their own business and in the course of running their own businesses. This part of the article also proposes some solutions that can help meet multiple tasks. Finally, based on the case study method, there are presented examples of entrepreneurl women with disabilities who have been successful and can be an example and inspiration for other women with similar problems. In the end, the conclusions are drawn, and it is recommended to deepen studies on the problem both in the scientific and institutional field, as in Poland this topic is little known and rarely undertaken. There is a lack of both research and scientific description of this subject.

The aim of this article is to present socio-cultural processes of doing gender categories in women with intellectual disabilities and to identify barriers and limitations which they face on the way of „becoming women”. The study and its analysis are based on the critical approach. The method of data collection was a participant observation conducted during three proprietary workshops on femininity organized for 17 women with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities (5–6 people in a group), attending an occupational therapy workshop. The aim of our workshops was the empowerment of one’s own femininity and strengthening of processes of doing gender by the participants. The analysis of collected material revealed that the process of shaping gender identities of women with intellectual disability is a subject of social control of the local community. Participants of the workshops are well aware that they are adult women and they strive for the realization of cultural patterns of femininity. In their case, however, these patterns are socially regulated and the women themselves internalize certain limitations imposed by the society during the socialization process. They instinctively “know” what they are allowed to do, and what they cannot gain as women with intellectual disabilities.

Background Workers who do monotonous and repetitive work in a static position often complain about fatigue and decreased work efficiency. Some studies indicate that to improve muscle fatigue, resistance strength training can be used. Material and Methods To investigate the effect of 4-week inertial training on shoulder muscles’ strength and muscles’ fatigue resistance 44 female workers with disabilities were examined. The participants were randomized into the training group (T) (N = 32) and the control group (C) (N = 12). Before the training and after that shoulder muscles’ strength were tested at the start and at the end of the workday (Monday and Friday). The participants were asked to complete questionnaire concerning their fatigue at work (T and C), inertial training and work efficiency (T). Results The work performed during the last day of the workweek, i.e., Friday (before training) resulted in a significant decrease in shoulder muscles’ strength in T and C. Muscle strength achieved at the end of the workweek (Friday afternoon) was significantly lower than achieved at the start of the workweek (Monday morning) in both tested groups (before training). Moreover, inertial training resulted in a significant increase in shoulder muscles’ strength in T; 34–74% for different muscles. No changes in muscles’ strength were noted in C. Increased muscle strength in T following inertial training effectively prevented muscle fatigue. After training the differences in shoulder muscles’ strength noted in T during different times of the workday and workweek were insignificant. Moreover, 4-week inertial training increased significantly the work efficiency of women from T by 4%; no changes were noted in C. Inertial training was well tolerated by the participants. Conclusions Using inertial training in women with disabilities to prevent shoulder muscles’ fatigue during the workday and workweek is recommended.

This article reconstructs identity transformations that manifest themselves in the biographies of female activists with disabilities. The empirical material was collected through autobiographical narrative interviews. The author identifies key stages and turning points for these identity transformations. She also analyzes the role of significant others in the process of identity transformations and becoming an activist. The analysis of narratives of women with congenital disabilities demonstrates that the incorporation of disability as an element of individual self-definition is an important factor contributing to identity transformations. In the analyzed narratives, disability represents a biographical resource and, like identity, is processual in nature. Although it accompanies the individual from birth, it undergoes reinterpretations at different stages of life.
W artykule autorka rekonstruuje przemiany tożsamości, jakie manifestują się w biografiach aktywistek z niepełnosprawnością. Materiał empiryczny zebrano, stosując metodę autobiograficznego wywiadu narracyjnego. Autorka identyfikuje kluczowe dla tożsamościowych transformacji etapy i punkty zwrotne. Analizie poddaje także rolę znaczących innych w procesie przekształceń tożsamości oraz procesie stawania się aktywistką. Poprzez analizę narracji kobiet z wrodzonymi niepełnosprawnościami wykazano, iż ważnym elementem przekształceń tożsamościowych jest włączenie niepełnosprawności jako części składowej jednostkowej autodefinicji. W analizowanych narracjach niepełnosprawność stanowi pewnego rodzaju zasób oraz, podobnie jak tożsamość, ma charakter procesualny. Chociaż niepełnosprawność towarzyszy jednostce od urodzenia, cecha ta podlega reinterpretacji na różnych etapach życia.

W niniejszym artykule skoncentrowano się na zagadnieniu sensu życia. Przeanalizowano definicje sensu życia zaproponowane przez polskich i zagranicznych badaczy, następnie wymieniono czynniki kształtujące poczucie sensu życia. W dalszej części artykułu omówiono pojęcie postawy rodzicielskiej, a także dwa modele tych postaw: model Marii Ziemskiej i model Mieczysława Plopy. Wyniki badań pokazały, że hipoteza postawiona w badaniach potwierdziła się tylko częściowo. Można więc wnioskować, że istnieje związek pomiędzy poczuciem sensu życia a retrospektywną oceną postaw rodzicielskich u badanych kobiet z niepełnosprawnością. Postawa matek wobec dorosłych córek z niepełnosprawnością jest pozytywna i stabilna, postawa ojca − negatywna i niestabilna.
In the present article they concentrated on the issue of the meaning of the life. A definition of the meaning of the life was analysed suggested through many outstanding Polish and of foreign researchers, next factors shaping feeling the meaning of the life were exchanged. In the more distant part of the article comprehending the parental attitude, as well as two models of these conducts were discussed: the model of Terrestrial Maria and the model of Mieczysław Plopa. Findings showed that the constructed hypothesis in examinations had only partly proven correct. It is possible so to conclude that a connection exists between feeling the meaning of the life, but the retrospective evaluation of parental postures at examined women with disabilities. The attitude of mothers towards adult daughters with disabilities is positive and stable, and negative and unstable attitude of the father.

The article addresses the issue of dating barriers of women with physical disability. This phenomenon was presented with reference to available research results and analysis. Dating barriers were described considering division of external and internal barriers. External barriers considered social issues which encompassed negative stereotypes, patterns, attitudes and architectural barriers. Internal barriers related directly women with physical disability including their attitudes towards oneself, self-esteem and social skills. The analysis showed that the women with physical disability may have more difficulty in finding partners and forming personal relationships leading to intimacy than do women without disabilities.

W ostatnich latach widoczny jest wzrost zainteresowania problematyką seksualności osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną (m.in. Kijak 2011; Kościelska 2000; Żyta 2013), jednakże wciąż niewiele badań obiera jako swój przedmiot zainteresowań takie zagadnienia, jak związki partnerskie, małżeństwa czy pełnienie roli rodzicielskiej przez osoby z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Badania, które zostały zaprezentowane w artykule, przedstawiają postrzeganie związków partnerskich przez kobiety z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. W trakcie analizy wyłoniło się sześć  płaszczyzn, które dotyczą związków partnerskich, znaczenia miłości oraz sposobów jej definiowania, relacji zachodzących między partnerami, roli kobiety oraz partnera w związku partnerskim, a także postaw najbliższego otoczenia oraz społeczeństwa wobec związków partnerskich osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną.
In recent years, there has been a visible increase in interest in the issue of sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities (among others: Kijak 2011; Kościelska 2000; Żyta 2013), however there is still not much research focusing on issues such as partnerships, marriages or parental roles for people with intellectual disabilities. The research, which was presented in the article, presents the perception of partnerships by women with intellectual disabilities. During the analysis, six areas emerged that relate to partnerships, the importance of love and how to define it, relationships between partners, the role of a woman and partner in a partnership, as well as attitudes of the immediate environment and society towards partnerships of people with intellectual disabilities.

Seksualność kobiet z niepełnosprawnością jest zagadnieniem, które pomimo rosnącego zainteresowania nim badaczy i klinicystów w dalszym ciągu wymaga eksploracji. Przedmiotem podjętych rozważań jest analiza czynników utrudniających realizację życia seksualnego przez kobiety z niepełnosprawnością ruchu. Zjawisko to zostało zaprezentowane na podstawie wyników dostępnych badań i analiz. Opisano kwestie stereotypów, mitów i uprzedzeń w zakresie seksualności, posiadanej wiedzy seksualnej, przemocy seksualnej, obrazu ciała i tożsamości seksualnej. Analizie poddano również zagadnienie zdrowia seksualnego i poradnictwa medycznego.
The sexuality of women with disabilities is an issue that still requires exploration despite the growing interest of researchers and clinicians in the topic. The focus of the deliberations is on analysis of factors that hamper the sexual life of women with motor disabilities. This phenomenon is presented based on the findings of available studies and analyses. The following issues are described: stereotypes, myths, and prejudice concerning sexuality, sexual knowledge, sexual violence, body image, and sexual identity. Also, sexual health and medical counseling are analyzed.
