Opis:
We have studied and explored the influence of different launch angles on the circular Pearcey beams (CPBs) without vortex or with vortex for the first time. Although launch angles can manipulate the focal length and the contrast of peak intensity of the CPBs, the shape and propagation trajectory of the CPBs maintain invariant. When the vortex is considered, the focal pattern and the contrast of peak intensity of the circular Pearcey vortex beams (CPVBs) can be changed by adjusting the magnitude of topological charges and the position of vortex. In addition, we have deliberated the propagation of the CPVBs under the action of double opposite optical vortices.

Opis:
Analytical formulas of the angular width and propagation factor of a multi-Gaussian Schell-model vortex (MGSMV) beam through atmospheric turbulence are derived on the basis of the extended Huygens–Fresnel integral and second-order moments of Wigner distribution function. Evolution properties of the angular width and propagation factor of MGSMV beams propagating in atmospheric turbulence are investigated numerically. The results show that a multi-Gaussian Schell-model beam is more affected by atmospheric turbulence than a MGSMV beam, which will be useful for the practical application of the MGSMV beam.

Opis:
The changes in the on-axis polarization state of random electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model vortex beams propagating in biological tissues have been studied. In different media propagation, the bigger Cn2 is, the earlier the appearance of the inflexion points in the on-axis degree of the polarization P(0, 0, z) is. As the propagation distance increases, the values of the on-axis orientation angle θ(0, 0, z) undergo several processes: at the beginning they are positive, then gradually increase to the maximum, jump to a negative value, finally tend to a fixed value. The bigger Cn2 corresponds to previous jumping position. In the entire propagation, the values of the on-axis ellipticity ε(0, 0, z) are larger than the initial one. There exists a phenomenon that the values of P(0, 0, z), θ(0, 0, z) and ε(0, 0, z) keep their extremes in a length of propagation distances for the far infrared beams. The maximum of P(0, 0, z) is the smallest and the jumping range of θ(0, 0, z) is the largest for the ultraviolet beams. Compared with σyy > σxx, the changes in magnitudes in P(0, 0, z) are more obvious when σyy < σxx, the changes in θ(0, 0, z) are just the reverse for σyy < σxx.

Opis:
Based on the extended Huygens–Fresnel principle, the analytical expressions for the cross-spectral density function of partially coherent sine-Gaussian vortex beams and partially coherent sine-Gaussian non-vortex beams propagating through free space and atmospheric turbulence are derived, and used to study the dynamic evolution behavior of coherent vortices in free space and atmospheric turbulence. According to the creation, the coherent vortices are grouped into three classes: the first is their inherent coherent vortices of the vortex beam, the second is created by the vortex beam itself during transmission process in free space, and the third is created by the atmospheric turbulence inducing the vortex beam.

Opis:
In this article a theoretical research is described into focusing of a linearly polarized helico-conical Lorentz beam with a sine-azimuthal variation wavefront. The simulation results show the vortex charge on the axis, which has an obvious modulation effect on the focal modes of the Lorenz beam under certain beam parameters and phase parameters. Both the phase parameter and the vortex charge are zero, the focal spot appears round. The focal spot is symmetric about y axis when the charge is 0 and the phase parameter is adjusted. And the focal evolution patterns vary remarkably under different beam parameters and the phase parameters. In the process of focus evolution, there appears some novel focal patterns, such as a circle, a “T”, a butterfly, a small running humanoid, a whale tail, a flower of four leaves, a serpentine, a goldfish, a Chinese knot and an octopus, which indicates that the focus mode of the optical vortex Lorentz beam can be altered by changing the phase parameters and vortex charge.

The analytical equation of an anomalous hollow vortex beam propagating in a uniaxial crystal orthogonal to the optical axis is derived, and the intensity and phase properties of this beam propagating in the uniaxial crystal are illustrated using numerical examples. The influences of topological charge M and the ratio of refractive index ne/no of a uniaxial crystal on the normalized intensity distribution and phase distribution for anomalous hollow vortex beam are discussed and analyzed in detail.

The cross-spectral density function of a multi-Gaussian Schell-model vortex (MGSMV) beam propagating through slanted atmospheric turbulence was derived, and the influences of the MGSMV beam parameter and slanted atmospheric turbulence on the spreading properties of a MGSMV beam are studied. One can find that a MGSMV beam propagating in slanted atmospheric turbulence can evolve into the flat-topped beam, and a MGSMV beam with larger index N and topological charge M propagating in slanted atmospheric turbulence will lose the dark hollow center and evolve into the Gaussian beam more slowly than the MGSMV beam with smaller index N and topological charge M. It is also found that a MGSMV beam propagating in slanted atmospheric turbulence with larger strucutre parameter C will evolve into Gaussian beam faster, but the influences of zenith angle α on the spreading properties of MGSMV beam in the far field can be ignored.

Opis:
Tight focusing of radially polarized beams with a devil’s vortex lens is numerically investigated. Multiple focal spots can be generated in the geometric focus when a radially polarized beam is focused by a high numerical aperture objective in the presence of a devil’s vortex lens. The position of the major focal spot shifts from the geometric focus when a devil’s vortex lens with S = 1 is employed, and the position of the focal spot can be controlled by the numerical aperture of the objective. The intensity components of the major focal spot are influenced by the vortex phase of the devil’s vortex lens. A strong longitudinal component near the optical axis is produced by a devil’s vortex lens without vortex phase, and a nearly pure transversal field is produced by a devil’s vortex lens with vortex phase.
