    Paweł Rojek in his Liturgia dziejów [Liturgy of History] rightly pointed the importance of Polish messianism for the understanding of John Paul II. It is especially convincing when one consider the early poetry of the future Pope, the testimony of his personal secretary sister Emilia Ehrlich, and the importance of suffering, both in theological reflexion, and personal life of John Paul II. Nevertheless, papal messianism was a very special kind. First, the concept of nation, adopted by John Paul II, did not exclude the universal dimension of humanity. The pope applied the principles of his theology of nation not only for Poland, but also for many others nations, and in many occasions prised the multinational political formations. Secondly, for him, the missions of nations were connected rather with martyrdom than historical victories. Most importantly, John Paul II united the messianistic vision with a very realistic approach to the history. In result, his ideas turned out to be a fatal threat for communist regimes in Eastern Europe. The Solidarity movement in Poland, inspired by John Paul II, might be seen as an attempt of realisation of this specific messianistic vision.

    Teologia del XX secolo ha sottolineato di nuovo la dipendenza reciproca tra la teologia e la spiritualità: la teologia deve interpretare la mistica e la mistica deve approfondire le riflessioni teologiche. Questa dipendenza si realizza chiaramente nelle opere di Hans Urs von Balthasar, uno dei teologi più significativi della teologia contemporanea. Ispirante e interessante è la somiglianza tra il suddetto teologo e la mistica polacca, Faustyna Kowalska. Nonostante, entrambi non hanno mai sentito uno dell’altro, si possono trovare le osservazioni simili e non ovvi in diverse descrizioni della realtà di Dio. L’articolo si limita alle questioni escatologiche.
    The twentieth century theology has underlined the interdependence of theology and spirituality: the role of theology is to interpret spirituality and spirituality is to give a new life to theology. We can observe this dependence clearly in Hans Urs von Balthasar’s works. He was one of the restorers of the contemporary theology. The similarities between the theologian from Switzerland and Polish mystic Faustyna Kowalska are inspiring and interesting. The two, who have never heard about each other, have similar points of view in some aspects of reflection about God. The purpose of this article is to show these similarities in the field of eschatology. It means, exactly, a new perception of the judgment, eternal happiness and punishment in purgatory and hell.

    At the beginning of a creative process, a literary text needs always to pass the step that ancient writers called ‘inventio’. In the ‘inventio’, of course, human mind looks more for visual images than for abstract ideas. Fantasy and imagination, by this way, are non very far from the world of dreams, made basically by images and sensations. During this first step, some writers can use words and language just to ‘describe’ images and visions. Among modern italian witers, we could assume the important witness of Italo Calvino, in Lezioni americane. But other interesting examples are to be found also in texts by Iacopone da Todi, Dante, Petrarca, Leonardo da Vinci and Dino Campana. What is important (Calvino says in Lezioni americane), it is to continue to recognize to the literature a significant role in the education of imagination. Imagination is foundation to thinking, and could be menaced today by modern media-society. Key words: Italo Calvino, literature, fantasy, imagination.

    Padre Arnoldo Janssen, il fondatore dei Verbiti (1875), iniziò un’opera di grande portata missionaria. L’autore, basando su alcune pubblicazioni e gli atti del processo della beatificazione, rivela alcune ragioni del suo successo della leadership. L’analisi si basa sulla personalità del fondatore. L’autore giudica le qualità della leadership del fondatore basandosi sui criteri stabiliti da Alexandre Havard nel libro pubblicato anche in Polacco: Etyka przywódcy: trening doskonalenia osobowości, Gdańsk 2011 (Virtuous Leadership: An Agenda for Personal Excellence. Lì la leadership viene letta nella chiave delle classiche virtù cardinali, completate dalla generosità e l’umiltà, apprezzate anche dagli antichi. L’analisi considerando le voci critiche sul fondatore, lo presenta come un leader efficace. La grazia gli ha permesso di trasformate le sue debolezze. Sebbene, P. Arnoldo non era un leader carismatico, però alla luce del ricco materiale probatorio, lui emerge come un uomo di Dio. Grazie alla sua genuina umiltà e semplicità ha raggiunto una sorprendente l’eccellenza nelle virtù cardinali di prudenza, giustizia, fortezza e temperanza. Il suo lavoro parla da solo. La grandezza della sua leadership sta nella dimensione soprannaturale connessa armoniosamente con il constante ed eroico sforzo umano. P. Arnoldo è arrivato alla straordinaria maturazione e crescita della personalità che gli ha portato il merito di essere chiamato “Dux” come inciso sulla sua tomba a Steyl.
    In 1875, Father Arnold Janssen founded an institution that was to have a significant impact on the missionary work of the Church: the Society of the Divine Word. Following the evidence established during his beatification process, as well as other publications, the author identifies a number of factors that positively influenced Janssen’s work. He measures Janssen’s personality against criteria proposed by Alexandre Havard in his book Etyka przywódcy [Leader’s Ethics] (Gdańsk 2011; New York 2007). According to Havard, leaders’ assessment should take into account the classical notion of the cardinal virtues, as well as their generosity and humility; the latter two highly praised by the ancients. Critical analysis of Janssen’s life reveals him as an efficient leader, who allowed God’s grace work on his weaknesses. Though Janssen was not endowed with any special charisma, the sources reveal him as a man of God who achieved extraordinary perfection in the practice of the cardinal virtues: prudence, justice, courage and temperance. He did this thanks to his authentic humility and simplicity. His life work speaks for itself. Janssen’s greatness is rooted in the supernatural realm. Through unceasing and heroic human efforts and harmonious cooperation with God’s grace he became an universally admired leader, wholly deserving the title Dux, engraved on his tombstone in Steyl.
    Ojciec Arnold Janssen, założyciel werbistów (1875), zainicjował dzieło o znaczącym oddziaływaniu misyjnym. Autor na bazie wybranych publikacji oraz akt procesu beatyfikacyjnego odsłania niektóre przyczyny powodzenia tego przedsięwzięcia, dotykając osobowości założyciela. Sięga po kryteria lansowane przez Alexandre’a Havarda w książce Etyka przywódcy: trening doskonalenia osobowości”, Gdańsk 2011 (New York 2007), w której autor ocenia wartość przywództwa w kluczu klasycznych cnót kardynalnych, uzupełniając je o wielkoduszność oraz pokorę, również cenione przez starożytnych. Krytyczna analiza biografii założyciela, przedstawia go jako przywódcę skutecznego, który pozwolił łasce przemieniać własne słabości. Jakkolwiek nie był on typem osobowości charyzmatycznej, bogaty materiał źródłowy pozwala dostrzec w nim męża Bożego, który dzięki autentycznej pokorze i prostocie doszedł do zadziwiającej doskonałość w zakresie cnót kardynalnych: roztropności, sprawiedliwości, męstwa i opanowania. Jego dzieło mówi samo za siebie. Wielkość przywództwa Arnolda Janssena zostaje osadzona przede wszystkim na fundamencie nadprzyrodzonym. Przez stały i heroiczny wysiłek ludzki oraz harmonijną współpracę z łaską osiągnął on godną podziwu osobowość lidera, zasłużenie ukoronowaną tytułem „Dux”, umieszczonym na jego grobie w Steylu.

    As an attempt to arrive at a concise synthesis of this rich material, this article is an invitation for furthering both research and the application of its findings. The subject has been presented in relation to the following points: Saint Paul’s spirituality and the history of Christian spirituality; essential elements of Christian spirituality according to the Pauline corpus; God: a mystery about which it is possible, worthwhile and necessary to think and speak; the reunion of Christianity with the world, as a self-presentation and as an offer of providing help; the concept of rebirth and fulfillment of life as a proposal of reveling the sense of existence in mutual togetherness.
    Będąc próbą zwięzłej syntezy przebogatego materiału, artykuł stanowi zaproszenie do dalszych badań naukowych i ich zastosowania. Temat przedstawiono, odwołując się przede wszystkim do następujących punktów: duchowość Pawłowa i historia duchowości chrześcijańskiej; zasadnicze elementy duchowości chrześcijańskiej wg Corpus Paulinum; Bóg: misterium, o którym można, warto i trzeba myśleć i mówić; spotkanie chrześcijaństwa ze światem jako autoprezentacja i oferta udzielenia pomocy; koncepcja odnowienia i udzielenia pełni życia jako propozycja ukazania sensu istnienia we wzajemnym byciu dla siebie.

    In this article will be discussed the passages of the Platonic dialogues that give information about the way in which the philosopher understood the term “mania”. Particularly important is the reflection on this subject contained in Phaedrus in which different kinds of madness were distinguished and briefly characterized. Especially the essential is the concept of poetic inspiration because it takes an important place in Plato’s theoretical and literary thought. It had also a significant influence on shaping his opinions on the subject of poets and their work. The Plato’s term of poetic inspiration and connected with it the issues of literary output and its reception make the fundamental part of this article.

    In the history of the Assyrian Church of the East the VIII century was a period of the flourishing of monastic mysticism. One of the great spiritual fathers of the period was Joseph Hazzāyā who made a synthesis of all spiritual and mystical experiences of his predecessors. In his writings he basically holds to the teachings on the vision of God, which was strange to the Antiochene tradition and therefore condemned as heretical by Timothy I, the patriarch of the Church of the East at the synod of 786-787. In this article the author analyzes Joseph’s teachings on the vision of God, striving to comprehend valid reasons why they deserve to be considered heretical. Furthermore the following pages contain overview of terms used by Joseph when he refers to the experience of divine vision and with special emphasis on the particulars of his teachings. The last paragraph presents a brief survey of the Christological doctrine of the Church of the East and its opinion on the experience of the vision of God.
    W historii Asyryjskiego Kościoła Wschodu (Kościół tradycji wschodniosyryjskiej) VIII w. stał się okresem rozwoju mistyki monastycznej. Jednym z wielkich nauczycieli duchowych tego okresu był Józef Hazzāyā, który dokonał syntezy nauki poprzedników. Fundament jego twórczości stanowi nauka o kontemplacji Boga, która była obca dla tradycji Antiocheńskiej i dlatego została potępiona jako heretycka przez patriarchę Tymoteusza I na synodzie w latach 786-787. W artykule dokonano analizy nauki Józefa o kontemplacji Boga w celu krytycznego spojrzenia na podstawy jego potępienia. Autorka przeprowadziła analizę terminów, które Józef stosuje na określenie stanu kontemplacji Boga, a także przedstawiła specyfikę jego nauczaniu w tej kwestii. W ostatnim punkcie artykułu został przedstawiony krótki zarys chrystologii Kościoła Wschodu oraz nauka dotycząca doświadczenia w sferze kontemplacji Boga.

    The purpose of the present study is to demonstrate how each man could rise from a suffering circumstance, discovering in it an opportunity for inner conquest. This is the strong human potential as Homo Patiens. In this way it is possible to assert the opposite thesis concerning a deterministic view of human being. The main solution the paper offers in any given set of pain experience is Christian faith as the only way to discover the hidden meaning of suffering. The essay develops a Christian analysis about human pain and it takes in consideration, most of all, the reflections of Edith Stein and the Holy Pope st. John Paul II in view of deepening the saving philosophy proposed by the Mystery of the Cross.

    W tekście omówiono architekturę i wyposażenie kościoła Zmartwychwstańców w Krakowie, który został zbudowany w latach 1886-1887 przy krakowskim domu zgromadzenia, ufundowanym w 1885 roku. Była to druga świątynia zmartwychwstańców na ziemiach polskich, po kościele we Lwowie. Fundamentalny wpływ na świątynię miała artystyczna wizja o. Leona Zbyszewskiego (1832-1907) CR. Przy pomocy o. Władysława Orpiszewskiego opracował artystyczną wizję kościoła, w której odwołał się do wzorów antycznych i wczesnośredniowiecznych, a także współczesnej neostylowej świątyni Saint Pierre de Montrouge w Paryżu (1863-1872), wzniesionej według projektu Émile’a Vaudremera. Leon Zbyszewski, współpracujący z krakowskim architektem i budowniczym Wandalinem Beringerem, opracował całościowy artystyczno-ideowy program wyposażenia i dekoracji kościoła, który obejmował zarówno otwartą więźbę dachową, dekorację malarsko-rzeźbiarską, projekt przegrody ołtarzowej, ołtarzy, chóru muzycznego, ambony, a nawet ławek i konfesjonałów. W wyniku syntezy artystycznych doświadczeń o. Zbyszewskiego powstała unikatowa, choć skromna, świątynia, w udany sposób łącząca wzory sztuki antycznej i średniowiecznej, o programie ideowym, który wpisywał się w charyzmat zgromadzenia.  
    L’articolo è uno studio dell’architettura e delle attrezzature della Chiesa Resurrezionista di Cracovia, che fu costruita tra il 1886 e il 1887 dalla filiale di Cracovia della congregazione, fondata nel 1885. Si trattò del secondo tempio risurrezionalista in territorio polacco, dopo la chiesa di Lviv. La visione artistica di Padre Leon Zbyszewski (1832-1907) CR ebbe un impatto fondamentale sul santuario. Con l‘aiuto di Padre W. Orpiszewski, Zbyszewski sviluppò una visione artistica per la chiesa, dove si rifece a modelli antichi e altomedievali, così come al tempio moderno in stile neostile di Saint Pierre de Montrouge a Parigi (1863-1872), costruito su progetto di Émile Vaudremer. Leon Zbyszewski, collaborando con l‘architetto e costruttore di Cracovia Wandalin Beringer, preparò un programma artistico e ideologico completo per l‘arredamento e la decorazione della chiesa, che comprese sia la capriata del tetto a vista, sia le decorazioni pittoriche e scultoree, il design della parete dell‘altare, gli altari stessi, il coro, il pulpito e persino i banchi ed i confessionali. La sintesi dell‘esperienza artistica di Padre Zbyszewski ha prodotto un tempio unico, ma modesto, che combina con successo i modelli dell‘arte antica e medievale, con un programma ideologico coerente con il carisma della congregazione.
    The paper is a study of the architecture and equipment of the Resurrectionist Church in Cracow, which was built between 1886 and 1887 by the Cracow house of the congregation, founded in 1885. It was the second Resurrectionist temple on Polish territory, after the Lviv church. The artistic vision of Father Leon Zbyszewski (1832-1907) CR had a fundamental impact on the temple. With the help of Father W. Orpiszewski, Zbyszewski developed an artistic vision for the church, where he referred to ancient and early medieval models, as well as the modern neostyle temple of Saint Pierre de Montrouge in Paris (1863-1872), built after a design by Émile Vaudremer. Leon Zbyszewski, collaborating with the Cracow architect and builder Wandalin Beringer, prepared a comprehensive artistic and ideological program for the church’s furnishings and decoration, including both the exposed roof truss, painting and sculpture decorations, the design of the altar partition, altars, music choir, pulpit and even pews and confessionals. The synthesis of Father Zbyszewski’s artistic experience produced a unique, yet modest, temple that successfully combined the patterns of ancient and medieval art, with an ideological program that was consistent with the congregation’s charism.
