The necessity for quick responding to changing market conditions forces manufacturers to seek new ways of designing and implementing production facilities. One method manufacturers are quickly adopting is process modeling and simulation, often referred to as virtual manufacturing (VR). Virtual manufacturing allows engineers to view a computer-simulated version of how the final machines or processes should operate. They can eliminate process design flaws in the early stages of development, giving significant savings. The paper describes two examples of complex approach to solve typical engineering problems using advanced CAx system.

W pracy przedstawiono wybrane problemy technik wirtualnych w pozyskiwaniu i przetwarzaniu informacji w zakresie diagnostycznych technologii obiektowych. Rozważania ograniczono do omówienia wybranych metod redukcji nadmiaru informacji diagnostycznej. Wskazano na istotę i znaczenie wstępnego przygotowania danych do przetwarzania. Podano podstawy metody OPTIMUM oraz SVD ukazując przykładowo ich przydatność diagnostyczną.
Selected issues dealing with virtual techniques used in data acquisition and processing in a range of diagnostic object-oriented technologies are presented in the paper. The topic was limited to methods of excessive diagnostic information reduction. The importance of preliminary preparation of processed data is indicated. The bases of OPTIMUM and SVD methods are given and their diagnostic usefulness is shown.

In this paper, a Fault Tolerant Control (FTC) strategy for Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) systems that can be used in the case of actuator faults is proposed. The idea of this FTC method is to adapt the faulty plant instead of adapting the controller to the faulty plant. This approach can be seen as a kind of virtual actuator. An integrated FTC design procedure for the fault identification and fault-tolerant control schemes using LPV techniques is provided as well. Fault identification is based on the use of an Unknown Input Observer (UIO). The FTC controller is implemented as a state feedback controller and designed using polytopic LPV techniques and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) regions in such a way as to guarantee the closed-loop behavior in terms of several LMI constraints. To assess the performance of the proposed approach, a two degree of freedom helicopter is used.

W dzisiejszych czasach roboty niejednokrotnie zastępują ludzi w pracach monotonnych, w których ruchy można zaprogramować. Istnieją jednak zadania, które należy wykonać w środowisku nieznanym oraz niebezpiecznym dla człowieka. W takich przypadkach możliwe jest wykorzystanie teleoperacji, czyli sterowania maszyną na odległość. Wizualne sprzężenie zwrotne najczęściej realizowanie za pomocą prezentacji obrazu monoskopowego pochodzącego z kamery umieszczonej na manipulatorze robota mobilnego często bez możliwości zmiany orientacji kamery wprowadza duże trudności w sterowaniu jak również ogranicza zdolność operatora do postrzegania przestrzennego. Wady te można zminimalizować wykorzystując technikę rzeczywistości wirtualnej. Info-hełm wyświetlający obraz stereoskopowy dostarcza operatorowi poczucie głębi, zwiększając precyzję manipulowania. Natomiast użycie info-rękawic oraz systemu śledzenia ruchu dłoni i głowy umożliwia stworzenie bardziej intuicyjnego interfejsu sterowania. W pracy przedstawiono budowę funkcjonalnego modelu robota mobilnego, który zostanie wykorzystany do przeprowadzenia badań mających na celu porównanie trzech typów interfejsów sterowania robotem mobilnym.
Nowadays robots are widely used to replace human in monotonous works which movements can be programmed. However, there are tasks that have to be performed in unknown and hazardous environments. In such cases it is reasonable to use teleoperation, i.e. to operate a machine from a distance. Implementation of visual feedback by the monoscopic presentation of images taken from cameras, which are mostly stationary placed on a robot's manipulator, introduces difficulties in controlling and limits operator's spatial perception. These defects can be minimized by using virtual reality technology. The use of stereoscopic visualization and head-mounted display (HMD) may provide higher perception of environment depth that can increase precision of manipulation. Data gloves and system tracking used for registration movement of hand and head allow to create more intuitive control interface. The paper presents a construction of a functional model of a mobile robot, which will be used to conduct a study aimed at comparing the three types of human-robot interfaces.

Z jednej strony szkolenia powinny być prowadzone w warunkach jak najbardziej przypominających rzeczywiste, nawet w przypadku prac niebezpiecznych, tak aby pracownik mógł uzyskać wysoki poziom kompetencji. Z drugiej zaś strony szkolenia nie powinny narażać ludzi na niebezpieczeństwo i ewentualne koszty związane z uszkodzeniem mienia. Te z pozoru sprzeczne wymagania spełniają realistyczne symulacje komputerowe i rzeczywistość wirtualna. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości wykorzystania do szkolenia pracowników zanurzeniowej rzeczywistości wirtualnej, symulatorów szkoleniowych, rzeczywistości rozszerzonej oraz systemów tzw. naturalnego interfejsu.
On one hand, the training should be conducted under the most like real conditions, even in the case of dangerous work, so that the employee can obtain a high level of competence. On the other hand training should not to expose people to danger and possible costs associated with damage to property These seemingly contradictory requirements meet the realistic computer simulations and virtual reality The article presents possibility to use to train employees immersion virtual reality, simulators, augmented reality and natural interface systems.

Przedmiotem pracy było zbadanie możliwości wykorzystania komputerowych technik wspomagania odlewnictwa artystycznego. W tym celu wykonano kilka złożonych projektów związanych z wizerunkiem Akademii Górniczo–Hutniczej im. Stanisława Staszica w Krakowie w programie Blender. Do prawidłowego przygotowania projektów do druku przestrzennego posłużył program NetFabb. Na podstawie przygotowanych zdjęć referencyjnych wykonano projekty Budynku głównego AGH wraz z pomnikami i statuą św. Barbary, statuetki "Diamenty AGH" oraz pamiątki Wydziału Odlewnictwa AGH. W pracy zastosowano metodę drukowania przestrzennego FDM z użyciem materiału ABS w celu wydrukowania modeli rzeczywistych za pomocą drukarki Up! 3D Plus. Wykonane modele zostały zaformowane w skorupowej masie ceramicznej, wykorzystywanej w technologii wytapianych modeli. By usunąć modele z form zostały przeprowadzone próby wypalania materiału ABS, tak by podczas procesu nie doszło do uszkodzenia formy. Konieczny był tu dobór grubości skorupy, która wyniosła 10 mm oraz podział wypalania modelu na dwa etapy. Otrzymane wnęki formy charakteryzowały się równie dobrze odwzorowaną i czystą powierzchnią jak wykonywane w tradycyjnej metodzie wytapianych modeli. Ostatnim etapem był dobór odpowiedniego stopu, technologii topienia i zalewania metalem wnęki formy. Najważniejszymi parametrami jakimi musiał się charakteryzować stop była bardzo dobra lejność oraz jakość powierzchni. Stąd do wykonania danych odlewów wykorzystano brąz krzemowy.
The thesis of this project was to exploring the use of computer aided techniques in artistic foundry. For this purpose was designed complex elements associated with University of Science and Technology name of Staniław Staszic in Cracow using the program Blender. To prepare correctly whole project was used the program NetFabb. Based on the prepared reference images there was made projects of: Main building AGH with monuments and st. Barbara statue, „Diamonds of AGH” statue and AGH Foundry Department souvenir. To make real models was used FDM method with for ABS material using Up!3D Plus printer. Ready models was molded in ceramic shell mold, used in melted models technology. There was made attempts to burn models made from ABS in the way to prevent damage to the mold. There was important to select the thickness of the shell, which was 10 mm, and section burning models for two stages. Received molds cavities had as clear and mapped surface as traditional forms made by melted models technology. Last step was choosing right alloy, melting technology and casting. Main alloy parameters were good fluidity and surface quality. To make this cast was used silicon bronze.

Sound localization problems are usually tackled by the acquisition of data from phased microphone arrays and the application of acoustic holography or beamforming algorithms. However, the number of sensors required to achieve reliable results is often prohibitive, particularly if the frequency range of interest is wide. It is shown that the number of sensors required can be reduced dramatically providing the sound field is time stationary. The use of scanning techniques such as “Scan & Paint” allows for the gathering of data across a sound field in a fast and efficient way, using a single sensor and webcam only. It is also possible to characterize the relative phase field by including an additional static microphone during the acquisition process. This paper presents the theoretical and experimental basis of the proposed method to localise sound sources using only one fixed microphone and one moving acoustic sensor. The accuracy and resolution of the method have been proven to be comparable to large microphone arrays, thus constituting the so called “virtual phased arrays”.

Aging has profound effects on facial biometrics as it causes change in shape and texture. However, aging remains an under-studied problem in comparison to facial variations due to pose, illumination and expression changes. A commonly adopted solution in the state-of-the-art is the virtual template synthesis for aging and de-aging transformations involving complex 3D modelling techniques. These methods are also prone to estimation errors in the synthesis. Another viable solution is to continuously adapt the template to the temporal variation (ageing) of the query data. Though efficacy of template update procedures has been proven for expression, lightning and pose variations, the use of template update for facial aging has not received much attention so far. Therefore, this paper first analyzes the performance of existing baseline facial representations, based on local features, under ageing effect then investigates the use of template update procedures for temporal variance due to the facial age progression process. Experimental results on FGNET and MORPH aging database using commercial VeriLook face recognition engine demonstrate that continuous template updating is an effective and simple way to adapt to variations due to the aging process.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań prowadzonych w celu jakościowego i ilościowego porównywania różnych interfejsów zdalnego sterowania, w szczególności określenia wpływu struktury interfejsu na wydajność operatora zdalnie sterowanego inspekcyjnego robota mobilnego. Stanowisko badawcze to mobilny robot inspekcyjny wyposażony w manipulator zakończony chwytakiem oraz wyposażonym w obrotowy układem kamer w konfiguracji stereoskopowej. Główny interfejs sterowania składa się z hełmu rzeczywistości wirtualnej (HMD) i rękawicy technik rzeczywistości wirtualnej (Data Gloves). Wszystko to uzupełnia system śledzenia ruchu orientacji głowy oraz pozycji dłoni względem barku, dodatkowo zastosowano joystick i komputer wraz z odpowiednim oprogramowaniem. W celu porównania różnych interfejsów sterowania został przygotowany alternatywny system oparty wyłącznie na ekranie LCD i joysticku.
This article presents a research for qualitative and quantitative comparison of different remote control interfaces, in particular, determine an effect of interface structure on efficiency of the operator remotely controlled mobile inspection robot. The robot is equipped with a manipulator ended with gripper and a rotatable set of stereo-cameras. The main control interface consist of head-mounted display (HMD) and data glove. All of it is supplemented by a motion tracking system for measuring orientation and position of HMD and data gloves, joystick and PC along with proper software. In order to compare different control interfaces an alternative system based on the LCD screen and joystick was prepared.

Introduction of fly-by-wire and increasing levels of automation significantly improve the safety of civil aircraft, and result in advanced capabilities for detecting, protecting and optimizing A/C guidance and control. However, this higher complexity requires the availability of some key flight parameters to be extended. Hence, the monitoring and consolidation of those signals is a significant issue, usually achieved via many functionally redundant sensors to extend the way those parameters are measured. This solution penalizes the overall system performance in terms of weight, maintenance, and so on. Other alternatives rely on signal processing or model-based techniques that make a global use of all or part of the sensor data available, supplemented by a model-based simulation of the flight mechanics. That processing achieves real-time estimates of the critical parameters and yields dissimilar signals. Filtered and consolidated information is delivered in unfaulty conditions by estimating an extended state vector, including wind components, and can replace failed signals in degraded conditions. Accordingly, this paper describes two model-based approaches allowing the longitudinal flight parameters of a civil A/C to be estimated on-line. Results are displayed to evaluate the performances in different simulated and real flight conditions, including realistic external disturbances and modeling errors.

This study examines the effect of storytelling through the use of Telegram on oral language of English foreign language (EFL) students. To this end, thirty English students aged 18 to 21 took part in the research. Before the treatment, they were interviewed by two instructors and were graded as low-proficient speakers of English. The selected participants were assigned randomly into two homogeneous groups of control (n=15) and experimental (n=15). The instructor taught four stories to both groups through the online class. The participants of the experimental group were supposed to summarize the retold stories while the participants of the control group answered the comprehension questions of the stories. All the participants were to record their voices and share them in their groups and their peers were supposed to listen to the speaker and post their comments. After the treatment, two instructors interviewed all the participants. The results of the comparison of the first and the second interview confirmed the positive effect of storytelling and answering the questions on the Telegram. The findings of this study may help the learners to enhance their English speaking skills.

In recent years, many scientific and industrial centres in the world developed virtual reality systems or laboratories. At present, among the most advanced virtual reality systems are CAVE-type (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) installations. Such systems usually consist of four, five, or six projection screens arranged in the form of a closed or hemi-closed space. The basic task of such systems is to ensure the effect of user “immersion” in the surrounding environment. The effect of user “immersion” into virtual reality in such systems is largely dependent on optical properties of the system, especially on quality of projection of three-dimensional images. In this paper, techniques of projection of three-dimensional (3D) images in CAVE-type virtual reality systems are analysed. The requirements of these techniques for such virtual reality systems are outlined. Based on the results of measurements performed in a unique CAVE-type virtual reality laboratory equipped with two different 3D projection techniques, named Immersive 3D Visualization Lab (I3DVL), that was recently opened at the Gdańsk University of Technology, the stereoscopic parameters and colour gamut of Infitec and Active Stereo stereoscopic projection techniques are examined and discussed. The obtained results enable to estimate the projection system quality for application in CAVE-type virtual reality installations.
