Opis:
The condition of shock-absorbers is one of factors influencing the in active-safety technology which help drivers to control of their vehicles in the motion. It stuck in the drivers' consciousness, that the damage of the shock-absorber causes the elongation the braking path and the lowering of the drive comfort. The remaining consequences of the worse conditions of shock-absorbers they are not known for the drivers' generality. This impinges on the vehicle motion parameters, its steerability and directional stability. The results of investigations and the analyses of the inefficient shock-absorber influence on vibration damping and the motion of the car were introduced in the presented work. The damping coefficients of the shock-absorber and their change during the exploitation were defined on the basis of test-bed investigations. Road tests were carrying over, on the basis which, try to catch the influence of fault on steerability and the directional stability of the vehicle motion. Road tests were carry over on the A class car. There was compared behaviour of the efficient vehicle and with the worn out shock-absorber. To comparison coefficients various tests are proposed. The road tests were carrying out on A class car with the 4WD driving system, equipped with the drive stability system. Results from individual tests were introduced on graphs.

Opis:
Development of active safety systems of automobiles is nowadays based not only on road tests, but also on computer simulation of vehicle's curvilinear motion. To properly perform simulation, all required model parameters have to be properly estimated. The less complicated model is, the less parameters it requires. So that, it makes no sense to apply too complicated models, if we are not able to estimate parameters with relatively low error. One of the most popular is two- degree-of-freedom flat model to describe curvilinear motion of automobile. It is widely used in design and improvement of active safety systems. The article discusses the application of simple two- degree-of-freedom flat model of automobile, which requires only several parameters. These parameters are: mass of a vehicle, location of center of gravity of a vehicle, yaw mass moment of inertia of a vehicle, side-slip characteristics. Furthermore, to be able to compare simulation and measurement results, it is necessary to know some input signals such as steering wheel angle and velocity of a vehicle, recorded during road tests. In this article signal of steering wheel angle was taken from Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. In case of model of a vehicle, the Authors decided to compare the results of simulation using two different side slip characteristics known as the dependence between lateral reaction force and side slip angle: linear characteristic (constant cornering stiffness) and the characteristic represented by Pacejka’s Magic Formula in steady-state version.

Opis:
The current standards in roll-over stability of off-road wheeled machines and vehicles do not include many significant factors of their design and performance (e.g. suspension type and parameters, stiffness of tires) as well as operation conditions (e.g. inclination and bearing capacity of the ground). In practice, it results in many dangerous roll-over accidents, particularly of articulated body steer vehicles, which might involve the operator’s death and/or severe damage to the machine and its surroundings. In recent years, some solutions developed and applied by particular companies aimed at roll-over stability improvement have been noticed. Unfortunately, their use appears to be not optimal and the aggregated knowledge remains usually a know-how of the company. For comprehensive explanation of this problem the Division of Off-Road Machine and Vehicle Engineering has built the innovative universal test vehicle for experimental tests on roll-over stability of off-road wheeled machines and vehicles. This unique at global level, universal test vehicle enables the undercarriage structure and properties to be optionally selected and roll-over stability to be tested on special rotary-tilting platform with on-line measurement of three components of reaction forces under each wheel. The paper presents the parameters and research potential of the original universal tests vehicle with the exemplary tests results.

The results of measurements of exhaust emissions in real road traffic differ significantly from the results of stationary homologation tests. One of the solutions, helpful in determining the actual emission, is the creation of stationary exhaust emission tests simulating the use of the vehicle on the road. The article presents the method of reconstructing the synthetic driving test obtained on the basis of road tests and presents the obtained profile of the speed course. The authors discussed the reasonableness of selecting the emission component determining the correctness of the representativity of the stationary test obtained, which determines the amount of work done by the engine.

The subject of the publication concerns the analysis of stages of vehicle body deformation in frontal collision for the characteristics of delay, speed and deformation of the vehicle. The course of the collision was divided into stages, whose boundaries are determined by the characteristic intervals.. In the work one of the physical factors (acceleration or delay), which influence significantly on the loss of the health of passengers vehicles, is considered. A method of reducing the level of acceleration is presented. In the barriers with low system compliance is used an accumulating elastic energy system of the vehicle impact and thereby reduced acceleration (delay). In the presented method, the recommendations on the containment level barriers to meet the criteria of the impact tests are taken into account.

Opis:
Road accidents with participation of the children are of particular nature. According to surveys, the older children at the age of 8-12 years are often transported in cars in a wrong way. They are usually fastened with seat belts designed for adult passengers. In order to make the seat belts safe for a child, they should be used together with a booster cushion or a high back booster seat. This paper presents the test results and analysis of dynamic loads affecting a child in the back seat of a passenger car during a frontal collision. The car body was accelerated to a speed of about 48 km/h and then it was suddenly stopped in a time of about 100 ms. The analysis was carried out on the basis of results of experimental tests performed at the collision station in the Automotive Industry Institute in Warsaw. The attention was paid to the influence of protection device type on the P10 dummy, representing a child at the age of about 10 years. Three child protection options during a collision were considered: the dummy was sitting directly in a car seat, on a booster cushion and on a seat. The dummy was fastened with standard seat belts. Evaluation of the protection device influence on the dummy loads was given in association with the operation of the seat belts. During evaluation, the indexes of biomechanical resistance of a human body to the impact load effects were used. They made the basis for the evaluation of the child injury severity risk.

Opis:
Operation of vehicles equipped with combustion engines is a source of pollution. That is why the emissions from this source are restricted. The emissions reduction system consists of several steps, whose basic component is a typeapproval of vehicle in terms of emissions level and admission to the registration of vehicles that meets the requirements for emissions. It is assumed, that the gradual reduction of emissions limits will improve the emission properties of the vehicles, and gradual withdrawal of used vehicles, will reduce of emissions growth. The basis for issuing opinions on a vehicle's exhaust emissions is the measurement of emissions performed in the laboratory on a chassis dynamometer in reproducible conditions of preparing the vehicle for testing, test replication, fuel for the engine, and the procedure for collecting the exhaust gas analysis. Motor Transport Institute conducts the type approval tests, as well as the research on emissions from vehicles in the real traffic conditions, which are used to determine the actual emission from the vehicle population. Emission tests for applications, that go beyond the application of type approval show, that there are vehicles whose emissions in operation is substantially different from the emissions measured during type approval. It is a natural phenomenon in the case of used vehicles and vehicles with engine malfunctions or exhaust aftertreatment system defect. However, there are vehicles whose emissions under specific operating traffic conditions are significantly different from the values obtained in the course of type approval tests, despite the good properties of emission measured under the conditions provided by the type-approval procedure. The article discusses the results of the emissions from vehicles, obtained in the tests used to determine the emission factors for vehicles used in real traffic conditions, thus taking into account emissions from vehicles, made under different conditions than the type approval tests, which show that, in terms of driving cycles, which are not covered by the emission test procedure, can multiply and exceed the approved values.. This is particularly true for modern diesel engines.

The article characterizes preventive activities carried out by the Motor Transport Institute (ITS) in Warsaw for the Road Safety in Poland over 40 years period (1952-1992), i.e. from the beginning of the Institute's activity until the socio-economic breakthrough of the 1980s and 1990s of the XX century. During that period, ITS’s specialists had carried out a lot of scientific and research work on the improvement of Road Safety, for example, psychological tests of drivers had developed. The next element in this area were road tests and diagnostics of motor vehicles. Increased safety of road users was also to be ensured by ever better materials used in automotive designs, to which contributed tests of material carried out at the ITS’s laboratories. Nowadays, the Institute continues a long list of activities in the field of Road Safety, an example of which is the activity of the Polish Road Safety Observatory.

The work presents the results of crash tests carried out with six electrical car models (from 2012-2013), with the weight of 1200-2300 kg (Smart Electric Driver, Mitsubishi IMiEV, Nissan Leaf, CODA, Ford Focus BEV, Tesla Model S). The results were published on the Internet by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (USA), and the tests involved a car travelling at the speed of 56 km/h, hitting frontally into a non-deformable (stiff) barrier, positioned perpendicularly to the car’s direction of movement. Particular attention was paid to the deformation of the car after hitting the barrier, so-called stiffness characteristics of the frontal crumple zone, and to the loads on the dummies placed at the driver’s and passenger’s seat (Hybrid III, a 50-centile man and a 5-centile woman). Results of the tests with electric cars were compared with the results of the tests with over a hundred of combustion engine cars with similar weight and type of car body (sedan, hatchback). The tests proved that, in the majority of electrical cars tested, the deformation of the frontal crumple zone after hitting an obstacle is larger than in case of similar cars with internal combustion engine. Because of that, the dynamic loads on the occupants of the vehicle tend to be smaller, as indicated by measured loads on the heads and chests of the dummies. The results may suggest that the frontal crumple zone may be better constructed in the case of electric cars, while the design possibilities regarding that area are limited in standard cars due to the combustion engine, which is not deformed during the accident, which makes it more difficult for the energy of the crash to dissipate.

Issues of driving stability of special-purpose vehicles result from engineering compromise between need of fulfilment of operational requirements and traction correctness of a vehicle. Especially, it concerns a motion in dynamic conditions with presence of high transverse accelerations. The paper comprises description and analysis of motion stability test results of a special-purpose two-axis vehicle with kerb mass of above 12 ton, with 4WD drive system, on a circular path drive and single line-change. One described methodology of the testing, used testing-measuring instrumentation, and distribution of the instrumentation in tested vehicle. It have been included a brief descriptions of the implemented instrumentation and method of acquisition and processing of the measurement data. One has tested a vehicle with highly located and considerably moved rearward centre of gravity. Such distribution of axle loads resulted from necessity of fulfilment of operational requirements of the vehicle. In the paper are presented test results performed for nominal and reduced with 20% tyre pressure. There were analyzed runs of lateral accelerations and axle slip angles in assumed condition of motion. One formulated general conclusions on stability characteristics for such type of vehicles.

The article is devoted to research of a vehicle ride comfort, equipped the suspension system with combined control of springing and damping elements. The spatial mathematical model of a vehicle which meets the requirements of adequacy to real object was developed. The results of the computer simulation of movement of the vehicle with controllable and passive suspension systems on stochastic microprofile are presented. It can be concluded that the spatial multi-mass model is satisfactory close to a real object and can be used for further calculations. Having analyzed simulation results we can state significant increase of ride comfort of a vehicle equipped with a controlled suspension system. Decrease of vertical acceleration of a cabin in a place where a driver sits amounted to 40% in average that can be considered as a limit value for this type of controlled suspension systems. It can be noted that a suspension system with combined control of springing and damping elements can be considered as rather effective in terms of decreasing load of vehicle spring-mounted parts that along with low power consumption makes it rather competitive. The shown research results and control laws for springing and damping elements can be used as a basis for development of relatively simple controlled suspension systems.

Human body motion during a road accident usually results from the effect of forces of inertia. The analysis of that motion, particularly displacements towards the vehicle interior have significant practical aspect as it facilitates conclusions concerning the mechanisms of danger and injury formation. At the same time, the analysis provides direct indications regarding the improvement of passive safety equipment. The paper presents the time-space diagrams of motion of dummy’s head, neck, torso and hips – the driver of a frame chassis vehicle, identified on the basis of results of the measurements registered in frontal barrier impact and the frame-by-frame analysis of videos recorded during the course of experiment. Courses of these diagrams were associated with acceleration measurement results and forces affecting the parts of the dummy. The experiment showed the complex nature of the influence on the dummy caused by the forces of inertia after a collision of the vehicle with an barrier, vehicle body motion against the frame, reactions in the safety belts, friction on a seat and contact reaction of the vehicle interior equipment. At the same time, it presented the possibilities of indicating the courses of speed variations and dummy displacement as well as significant limitations of calculation possibilities that result from a fact that the process of the impact on the vehicle interior elements is hard to describe.
