Opis:
Introduction. Elevated uric acid (UA) is associated with arterial hypertension (AH), obesity, dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. However, its association with body components has not been previously investigated. Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between UA and cardiovascular risk factors, anthropometric parameters and body composition in patients with AH. Materials and method. In 138 patients with AH the following parameters were evaluated: UA, low and high density lipoproteins (LDL-C, HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), fasting glucose (FG), creatinine; body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), fat mass (FM), fat free mass (FFM) and total body water (TBW). Results. Positive correlations were shown between UA and LDL-C (p=0.041), TG (p<0.001), FG (p=0.025) and creatinine (p<0.001) and negative between UA and HDL-C (p<0.001). Significant associations between UA and anthropometric parameters and body components, such as WC (p<0.001), BMI (p<0.001), FFM (p<0.001) and TBW (p<0.001), were also observed. In the multiple regression model, independent predictors of UA concentration were serum creatinine and TBW (R2=0.45; p<0.001). Conclusions. In patients with AH, uric acid was significantly related to cardiovascular risk factors, including obesity. However, the main anthropometric determinant of plasma UA concentration is FFM. The consideration of body composition in the interpretation of UA concentration appears to be justified, but the verification of this hypothesis requires further studies.

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine uric asid (UA) and high sensitive C-Reactive protein (Hs-CRP) levels in patients with coronary artery ectasia (CAE). Materials and Methods: Ninety-eight patients with isolated CAE (mean age 57.5±10.3), (group-I), 110 patients with CAD but without CAE (mean age 56.3±10.7), (group-II), and 105 patients with normal coronary angiographies (mean age 58.1±10.8), (group-III) were included in the study. Blood samples of all individual were taken after coronary angiography from an antecubital vein, the patients uric acid and Hs-CRP levels were assessed. The severity of ectasia was evaluated and categorized according to Markis. Results: A significant difference was not seen in serum uric acid and Hs-CRP levels between CAE and CAD groups. However, relative to the control group, uric acid and Hs-CRP levels in CAE and CAD groups were higher to a significant degree (p=0.001, p<0.001, respectively), (p<0.001, p<0.001, respectively). The statistical significant was detected between subgroups type I and type IV, Hs-CRP and UA were statistically high in subgroup type I. (p=0.012, p=0.033, respectively) In multiple regression analysis, CAE and CAD were independently associated with UA (β=0.76; p<0.001, β=0.68; p<0.001, respectively) and Hs-CRP (β=0.66; p<0.01, β=0.62; p<0.01, respectively) along with diabetes mellitus (β=0.61; p=0.039, β=0.94; p=0.028, respectively). Conclusion: In conclusion, the blood uric acid and Hs-CRP values in our study have been observed to be higher in the individuals with coronary arteri ectasia in comparison to normal individuals, and the increase in these values were found to be parallel to the extent of the ectasia.

The profile and normal concentrations of nucleotide metabolites in human saliva and reproducibility of these determinations were analyzed. Samples of human saliva collected from healthy individuals at weekly intervals, were deproteinized and analysed for the content of adenine nucleotides and their metabolites by reversed-phase HPLC. Initial ATP, hypoxanthine and uric acid concentrations were 0.52 ± 0.15 μM, 1.91 ± 0.37 μM and 184 ± 22 μM respectively. A substantial individual variation persisted within 3 weeks of sampling excepted hypoxanthine which showed some unrelated variations. Determination of nucleotides and their catabolites in saliva due to its simplicity and reproducibility, may be of clinical value in diagnosis of local or systemic disorders.

Opis:
Introduction: Neurogenic bladder (NB) most often is caused by meningomyelocele (MMC) and manifests with various lower urinary tract dysfunctions. Condition of NB is worsened by inflammatory process or oxidative status imbalance. Purpose: To estimate of urinary uric acid (UA), hs-CRP, thiol status in association with NB function in MMC patients.Materials/Methods: 33 MMC children and 20 healthy individuals were included into the study. The first daytime urine samples were collected from all examined participants and urinary thiol status, hs CRP and UA were measured. Results: MMC children presented higher urinary UA level. The median hs-CRP level were also higher in MMC patients compared to the reference. Thiol status were lower in MMC individuals compared to reference group. We found positive correlation between serum creatinine, serum UA and urine creatinine and negative between serum creatinine and GFR. Correlations between urinary UA and physical development parameters, renal function, hsCRP, thiol status and urodynamic findings in MMC and reference groups were found. Conclusions: UA is a marker potentially having direct effect on the bladder function. Disturbed oxidative status and increased markers of inflammation may be a potentially modifiable factors affecting function of lower urinary tract in MMC children.

Opis:
ObjectivesExposure to light at night (LAN) can disturb circadian endocrine and metabolic rhythms. Hyperuricemia (HUA) is an early-onset metabolic disorder. However, it is still not clear whether LAN exposure increases the prevalence of HUA.Material and MethodsThe authors used crosssectional data on the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei occupational populations cohort from March–July 2017. A total of 7664 steel workers were finally selected to investigate the relationship between LAN exposure and the prevalence of HUA among steel workers. The authors collected demographic and socio-economic data, as well as information on lifestyle factors, anthropometric measures, and laboratory tests. The restricted cubic spline method was used to analyze the dose-response relationship between cumulative LAN exposure and the prevalence of HUA. Logistic regression analyses were used to fit the relationship between them.ResultsThe average age of the participants was 43.5±8.6 years; 7051 (91.7%) of them were males, 2749 (35.9%) reported to suffer from HUA, and 1241 (16.2%) were not exposed to LAN. There was a significant non-linear dose-response relationship between them. After adjustment for the confounding factors, including demographic data, lifestyle factors, etc., the lower LAN exposure was significantly associated with HUA (0–1931.7 days, OR = 1.180, and the 95% CI: 1.000–1.394; 1931.7–4343 days, OR = 1.215, 95% CI: 1.035–1.426).ConclusionsThis study revealed that a certain amount of exposure to LAN is independently related to the prevalence of HUA in steel workers in China.

Opis:
The aim of the work was to assess the intensity of purine nucleotide degradation during maximum physical exercise. 5 elite female boxers were the subject of the study. Each of them underwent two exercise stress tests in order to evaluate the level of V̊O2peak and the level of anaerobic capacity during a Wingate test. The study involved collecting capillary and venous blood samples at rest and after the exercise test to determine the Acid-Base Balance (ABB), concentration of lactic acid (LA) and purine metabolism nucleotides. The average value of V̊O2peak was 40.92 (SD = 4.087) ml/kg/min, the average anaerobic capacity Ppeak was 7.57 (SD = 0.380) Watt/kg. The workload resulted in significant changes in the level of ABB and LA after both of the exercise stress tests (p < 0.001). Concentrations of hypoxanthine (Hx), xanthine (X) and uric acid (UA) in the blood increased significantly after the Wingate test (p < 0.05). The level of plasma purine nucleotides at rest and after standard exercise may be a useful tool for monitoring the adaptation of energetic processes in different training phases and support the overload diagnosis.
