- Vaccinations are the most effective prevention of contagious diseases. They are supposed to prevent from catching contagious diseases, as well as to develop resistance of the whole population, which provides protection also to those persons who due to medical contraindications could not have been vaccinated. However, in order to obtain effective protection against return of contagious diseases epidemics, it is necessary to maintain the high percentage of those vaccinated. That is why a trend towards not to vaccinating children, which has been growing everywhere in Europe, is alarming. The reasons behind this trend are parents’ fears that vaccinations can negatively affect the health and development of children.
