The article deals with the problem of the registering the unit of language based on the shape góra. The author adopts the concept of the unit of language as proposed by Andrzej Bogusławski (c.f. Bogusławski 1976) and she tries to find units of language containing the sequence góra. A number of Polish units of language were identified as a result of the analyses conducted. The author distinguishes three homony mous units of language in the form of góra czegoś, as well as units taking shape góra and góry.

The subject-mater of this article is the status of the expression aby in the semantic structure of yes/no questions. Two possible solutions to the problem emerge from available lexicographic approaches: in some dictionaries the word aby is considered to be an inseparable part of an idiomatic interrogative form, while in others it is described as a bilateral, semantically independent unit of language. The author shows that in the past the word in question was a particle having a very wide range of use. In contemporary Polish its distribution is restricted to volitional contexts, but it still satisfies the condition of proportionality; therefore it should be interpreted as a lexical unit of Polish.

W artykule została zawarta analiza sześciu typów kontekstów w języku polskim, w których występuje ciąg łącznie. Jej celem była próba wyodrębnienia jednostek języka, które może on reprezentować lub których może być członem. Wyodrębniono pięć hipotetycznych jednostek języka – dwie o kształcie łącznie, dwie o kształcie łącznie z i jedną wielosegmentową jednostkę werbalną, której członem jest ciąg łącznie. Lista wyróżnionych w ten sposób hipotetycznych jednostek języka może być podstawą dalszych analiz semantycznych.
The article presents an analysis of the six types of contexts in the Polish language, in which there is a sequence łącznie. Its purpose was to make an attempt to isolate the units of language which this sequence may represent or which it may be a part of. Five hypothetical units of language were distinguished – two represented by the sequence łącznie, two represented by the sequence łącznie z, and one multi-segmental verbal unit which the sequence łącznie is a part of. The list of the hypothetical units of language that are determined in this way may constitute a basis for further semantic analyses.

A new type of dictionary – a psychological linguistic dictionary was compiled as a result of analyzing 15918 Russian adjectives from the perspective of their relationship with emotions originating in reference to various senses. The dictionary contains information on “the emotional load” of these adjectives, that is how pleasant or how unpleasant emotions a given adjective evokes. The analyzed lexemes were assessed by respondents on the scale of emotions: slightly (un)pleasant – moderately (un)pleasant – very (un)pleasant, which was marked with an appropriate number of pluses or minuses. Although it is believed that representatives of different cultures experience universal emotions, their quality and intensity hidden behind particular linguistic units can diverge for different cultural linguistic communities. Emotions are conditioned socially, culturally and historically; they play an important role in international communication. Thus, when they are incompetently and mistakenly interpreted, this can disturb dialogue between various cultures and even lead to conflicts. In the article, considering equivalents mięsny/мясной and other counterparts, it can be said that not all the examples have a parallel emotional value. Despite the genealogical relationship between the languages and cultures in question, emotive contrasts are not rare. This leads to considering a significant issue of emotive adequacy of dictionary equivalents, which has to be addressed by translators and language teachers.

The article concerns the basic linguistic notion of "a language unit", in particular the term: "open class" that is essential in the structuralist theory of language units. The authors present possible misinterpretations of this term and their consequences for delimitating language units. A more detailed analysis is devoted to expressions ani (+preposition) + noun and ani + verb. The authors justify the thesis on semantic and functional homogeneity of ani in the expressions of both types. By doing so, they set against the lexicographic tradition of noting multiple idiomatic expressions consisting of the sequence ani.

Aim. In Turkey, in connection with the Bologna process, German is a foreign language course. In this study, the subject of a weather report (forecast) was planned for the German courses. The purpose of this study is the preparation, implementation and evaluation of a sample lesson to describe the selection of the subject of a weather report for the German courses taught at schools and universities.    Methods. This study was conducted by qualitative research (Yıldırım & Şimşek, 2008, pp. 187-193). During the 2019 / 2020 academic year, I taught the subject of a weather report students in German courses and 38 students in master courses. Result and Conclusion. It was observed that participants talk about the weather in their hometown and in the places where they go on vacation. In addition to the subject discussed in class, the method implemented in the lesson and the planning of the course according to the method, play an important role in the continuation of this interest. Origin. The students who were in German speaking countries under the Erasmus program participate in German courses to maintain their fluency in German language. In order to conduct German courses effectively for different purposes, and for participants coming from different countries and students with different levels of fluency, a suitable method should be developed.

Research into the phraseological component of dialects in different Ukrainian areas is especially relevant due to the fact that during the last decade the phraseology of dialects has been studied very intensively, despite all the difficulties connected with collecting dialect material and the unrefined methods of their researching. The article is devoted to the structural/semantic description of phraseological units with phytomyn components, which make up the phraseologic/semantic line “unclever, stupid”. The source for this research was material from dictionaries, phrasal dictionaries, and from collections of modern words from three dialects of the Ukrainian language. Analysis of phraseological units and their components in space allowed for the determination of either non-fixed phrases or the absence of their expected components, the firmness of different dialectal phenomena, and system phenomena within phraseology.

Aim. In Turkey, German ranks second after English as a foreign language in private courses, schools, and universities. There is an important relation between the selection of the subject of German courses, i.e., the detailed planning of the courses, and the implementation of the appropriate method.  In this research, the subject of cuisine was planned for teaching German at universities. The purpose of this research is the preparation, implementation and evaluation of a sample lesson focused on the selection of the subject of cuisine for German courses taught in the universities. Methods. This research on cuisine was qualitative in nature. The document analysis technique was used in the research (Kuş, 2007; Yıldırım & Şimşek, 2008). During the 2018/2019 academic year the researcher taught on the subject of cuisine selection in his German courses. The implementation and evaluation of the subject of cuisine are developed by Hasan Coşkun (2020) in accordance with the lesson planning model previously prepared. The materials used in this lesson are prepared according to the model developed by Coşkun (2020). The unit on cuisine has been revised for this article. Result and Conclusion. The success of the lesson planning model mentioned in this article was also observed in the activities conducted earlier. It was also seen that the students who attended German courses in connection with education or work in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland exerted efforts in establishing contact with the instructor and with other students attending the class. It was observed that participants talked about the Turkish, German, and Chinese cuisine in their families, peer groups, restaurants, and snack bars.  In addition to the subject discussed in the class, the method implemented in the lesson and the planning of the course according to the method, play an important role in the continuation of the students’ interest. Therefore, effective lesson planning models should be developed. This lesson model is also applicable to other languages. Originality. German is offered as a foreign language in Turkish schools in the second grade. Consequently, German is usually chosen as a second foreign language after English.  Students from all the departments of the university may attend the elective German language classes to study or work in Germany. The condition for participation in the courses “German for Erasmus” and “German for Communication,” taught by the researcher, aims to prepare the students to read and speak German at the A2 level. It is frequently observed that the participants speak German at different levels.  The overseas experience of the participants, the level of their German and their knowledge of other languages play an important role in this respect.  In recent years, the number of course participants from Germany and other countries have increased. The students who had been in German speaking countries within the Erasmus program participate in German courses to maintain their fluency in the German language. To conduct the courses effectively, a suitable method should be developed and such an approach will help the participants who come from different countries and students with different levels of fluency. It is believed that this inter-disciplinary research will contribute to the use of the active method during German lessons.

Aim. The purpose of this qualitative research is the preparation, implementation and evaluation of a sample lesson focused on the selection of the subject of religion for the German courses taught in universities. The second purpose of this research is to contribute to international understanding between peoples with different religious beliefs. Methods. This research pertaining to religion is qualitative in nature. In this research, the document analysis technique was used. The research on the subject of religion was taken up during the 2021/2022 academic year in my selective German courses at the Hacettepe University. Results. The successful contribution of the lesson planning model mentioned in this article was also observed in the teaching activities in primary and secondary schools conducted earlier. It was also seen that the students who attended the German courses in connection with education or work in Europe. Conclusions. It was observed that the participants talked about Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. It is important to remark that the interest of the participants in German lessons still continues. Therefore, effective lesson planning models and unique methods should be further developed. Originality. German language courses are offered as a foreign language learning practice in Turkish schools, private institutions and universities as elective foreign language courses. Students from all the departments of the university may attend the elective German language classes. To conduct the German courses effectively, a suitable method should be developed which will help the participants who come from different countries and students with different levels of fluency.

The subject of the article concerns phraseological units with the lexeme bank that can be found in the Polish language. The lexeme bank, which has been present in Polish since the sixteenth century, became the basis for a group of phraseological connections founded on three out of the four meanings of the word registered in dictionaries. More or less typically phraseological expressions were created around the meaning of the word bank as a money trading institution, or as a place where something is kept or stored and finally as a pot or pool in gambling games. The fourth meaning of bank, as an edifice that holds an institution involved in financial turnover, proved to be unattractive phraseologically and did not result in forming any phraseological units. Also it should be emphasized that some of the analyzed phraseological connections undergo semantic modifications in contemporary Polish, which have not yet been recorded in lexicographic collections. It happens so as new shades of meaning of the phrases rozbić bank (hit the jackpot) or trzymać bank (hold the pot) have not yet been fully established in the language and need to be carefully observed.

The article aims at a revision of such terms as sentence, utterance, speech act, or communication event in view of new research needs and a broader understanding of language as involved in a complex communication process and, thus, considered a tool for not only generating meanings but also conveying them in interpersonal collaboration. From such a perspective, language appears to be not only a system but also one of the tools of symbolising meanings and intentional acts which serve the purpose of generating and regulating social bonds. The purpose of the authors is, thus, to define traditional linguistic concepts in order to make them good tools to describe the types of communication events and the ensuing individual interactions. We also intend to resolve the existing terminological confusion, i.e. to eliminate the employment of the same terms to describe different speech events and different levels of speech, and, as a result, to place the concepts in a hierarchy and assign them clear definitions. All this is undertaken in order to fit in the perspective of the observer as an active participant and contributor to the communication event, utterance or even a sentence
Celem tego artykułu jest rewizja takich pojęć jak zdanie, wypowiedź, akt mowy, zdarzenie komunikacyjne w obliczu nowych potrzeb badawczych i szerszego rozumienia języka – języka uwikłanego w złożony proces komunikowania, a zatem jako narzędzia służącego nie tyle do produkcji znaczeń, ile do ich przekazywania i interpersonalnego współtworzenia. Z takiej perspektywy język jawi się nie jako system, ale jako jedno z narzędzi symbolizowania znaczeń i intencjonalnych przesłań, które służą do wytwarzania i regulowania więzi społecznych. Zamiarem autorek jest zatem taka redefinicja tradycyjnych dla językoznawstwa i pragmatyki mowy pojęć, aby stały się one dobrym narzędziem dla opisu typu zdarzenia komunikacyjnego i wytworzonej jednostkowej interakcji. Chcemy też usunąć istniejące zamieszanie terminologiczne, tzn. wyeliminować używanie tych samych pojęć dla określenia innych zjawisk mownych lub innych poziomów mowy, a w rezultacie zhierarchizować te pojęcia oraz wytyczyć im przejrzyste ramy definicyjne. A wszystko to po to, by w tych ramach dała się zawrzeć także perspektywa odbiorcy jako czynnego uczestnika i współtwórcy komunikacyjnego zdarzenia, wypowiedzi, a nawet zdania.

The author draws attention in the text to the fixed phrases functioning in the Polish and Russian languages, whose lexical components, on joining to form the phrase, are in contradiction to the norms of the so called semantic valence. The phrases are an echo of the rules of the carnival concept of the ≪world upside-down≫, in which all existnig norms and rules are transgressed. The analysed phrase corpus permits a conclusion that it is in its entirety anthropocentric of character and refers to various aspects of evaluating of man. The examined phrases are not only exaples of peculiar innovations in phrase units, but also result of deliberate act of creation, based on rules of carnivalisation of language.

This introductory article is intended to open the volume of work prepared by the participants of the 12th UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair International Summer School. The participants presented these papers at the RC25 ISA Interim International Conference in Warsaw, entitled: "Language and Society. Research Advances in Social Sciences" (26-27.09.2019), exploring the concepts of gender equality and children's equality in liberal and conservative discourses and practices invested in language. The papers in this volume primarily use the methodology of discourse analysis and a range of tools and methods within this framework. The purpose is to shed light on how discourses inform preferences, behaviours and representations, towards the positioning of individuals in society, based on their respective gender and their individual status - whether an adult or a child. It is interesting to explore what is expected of the holders of these positions and whether they are able to confront and renegotiate their situation. The authors look into gendered childhood, analysing if differences can be found in so-called conservative and liberal discourses. The gender aspect of childhood and the resistance towards children’s expected positions interlinked to their gender is visible to diverse degrees in this selection of papers. The concept of social positioning due to one's gender is at the heart of this volume. Therefore, this Editorial forms a theoretical backstage for the volume of works included in the special post-conference issue of Society Register.
