Opis:
Introduction and aim. Thyroid hormones play an important role in glucose metabolism as in many metabolic events. The aim of our study is to evaluate the relationship between subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) and insulin resistance, especially in obese women. Material and methods. Newly diagnosed SCH patients with body mass index (BMI) ≥30 who applied to our outpatient clinic between March 2021 and October 2021, and euthyroid obese women who applied for routine control were included in the study. In this study, we used homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and triglyceride glucose (TyG) indexes, which are noninvasive, simple and useful methods for evaluating insulin sensitivity. Results. The study included 78 female patients between the ages of 19 and 64. A correlational analysis was performed between thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and HOMA-IR, TyG, and BMI. The results showed that TSH levels were positively correlated with HOMA-IR (R=0.297, p=0.008), TyG (R=0.316, p=0.005) and BMI (R=0.307, p=0.006). This relationship was stronger for TyG compared to the other variables. As another finding, BMI was positively correlated with HOMA-IR (R=0.359, p=0.001) and TyG (R=0.404, p<0.001). This relationship was stronger for TyG than HOMA-IR. Conclusion. These results show that patients with SCH are at risk of developing diseases that accompany insulin resistance, such as metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disorders. The most important finding of our study is that the TyG index gives more significant results than HOMA-IR, especially in obese women.

Summary: Preformulation studies were carried out to estimate the solubilization capacity of products of catalytic oxyethylation of triglyceride fractions extracted from the pharmacopoeial lard (Adeps suillus, PP XI). There were determined basic viscosity ([ɳ], Mɳ) and hydrodynamic (Ro, Robs., Ω) values of micellar solutions of oxyethylated derivatives as well as their surface activity - . Critical micellar concentration (cmc) was used to calculate the thermopotential for the formation of micelles (∆ ). Model studies on micellar solubilization of gemfibrozil, loratadine and valsartan from the solid body surface (phase boundary) were performed under equilibrium conditions at the surfactant concentration of cexp>>cmc. The amount of dissolved lipophilic therapeutic agents with qualitative and quantitative involvement of micellar solubilization was determined by spectrophotometric (UV) method - cǀsǀ (mg/100mL) as well as by calculating the solubilization indices - n|s| (mol / mol). The research study has identified structures of oxyethylated derivatives of triglyceride fractions which selectively and effectively solubilize gemfibrozil, loratadine and valsartan from the solid surface in the equilibrium system. The obtained results are a technological inspiration to create a model form of the drug (tablet) with continuous dispersion of lipophilic therapeutic agents (gemfibrozil, loratadine and valsartan), obtained on the basis of the liquefied surfactant structure. Key words: micellar solubilization, products of triglyceride fraction ethoxylation, gemfibrozil, loratadine, valsartan

Opis:
Introduction and objective. Hyperlipidemia is considered as a serious communal problem in developed countries, caused by an excess level of cholesterol in blood circulation. It leads to chronic illness and even death in human beings. As the currently available drugs cause unexpected side-effect, the aim of this study is to concentrate on naturally occurring flavonoids which can potentially provide defensive and therapeutic effects in atherosclerosis diseases, and investigate the hypolipidemic effect of rutin on Triton WR-1339 triggered hyperlipidemia in a rat blood sample. Materials and method. Rats were randomly prearranged into five different groups of five rats each. Group-I was the non-disease control and administered normal saline. Group-II was the atherogenic control, administered Triton WR 1339 (200 mg/kg BW). Group-III was standard and received Atorvastatin. The last two groups (IV, V) were tested (I&II) by administering administered Rutin (40 mg/kg, 80 mg/kg) orally. The test material (I&II) and the standard drug were administered for seven days. After the last dose, blood samples were collected and the lipid levels estimated in the blood samples. Results. Rats treated with rutin flavonoid at a dose of 40 mg/kg & 80mg/kg exhibited a reduction in Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL). Rutin also increases the High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), compared with control rats. Rutin treated rats exhibited dose-dependent hypolipidemic activity. The protection percentage of rutin against hyperlipidemia was observed as 41.89%, 55.57% whereas the atorvastatin treated group protection was observed at 60.63%. Conclusions. The results of the study revealed that rutin showed a significant hypolipidemic effectiveness on Triton WR- 1339 induced hyperlipidemia in rats.

Objectives: The roles of cardiorespiratory fitness (CF) in reducing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and allcause mortality risks are well established; however, little is known about the role of CF in reducing risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS), a cluster of CVD risk factors, particularly in Asian countries. This research examined associations between CF and MetS diagnosis and its five components in Indonesian middle-aged and older adults. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 161 participants (aged 63±8 years; 70% female). CF was assessed with a 6-minute walk test. MetS diagnosis and its components were assessed with the Adult Treatment Panel III. Logistic regression modelling was conducted to examine the relationships between CF and MetS diagnosis and its components, after adjustment for BMI and other confounders. BMI was categorized using cut-points for Asians. Results: In adjusted models, participants with low CF had a greater likelihood of being diagnosed with MetS than those with high CF (OR=4.79, 95%CI:2.17-10.62). They were also more likely to have low highdensity lipoprotein (OR=2.07, 95%CI:1.02-4.18) or hypertriglyceridemia (OR=2.37, 95%CI:1.15-4.86). There was also borderline significant findings that suggested that participants with low CF had greater likelihood of having abdominal obesity (OR=2.34, 95%CI:0.97-5.65, p=0.06) or hyperglycaemia (OR=2.07 95%CI:0.98-4.41, p=0.06). Conclusions: Low CF is associated with increased likelihood of being diagnosed with MetS. The adverse effects of low CF are mainly characterized by dyslipidaemia. Public health messages should emphasise the importance of improving CF for preventing MetS. Assessment of CF could be useful for targeting individuals most likely to benefit from intervention to prevent MetS.

The albino Wistar rats were used to investigate the effect of thyroxine administration on the activity of citric acid, α-Amylase, creatine phosphokinase (CPK), creatinine, cholesterol and triglycerides level in blood serum and citric acid in liver and kidney. Two groups of rats were taken for the experiment. One group was injected subcutaneously with 200 μl of thyroxine/50 g of body weight, the other group served as control. The animals were vivisected with anesthesia after intervals of 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours α-Amylase and CPK levels in blood; citric acid level in liver and kidney of control and thyroxine treated rats. The results showed that the α-Amylase activity remained unaltered (100 g/h/l) throughout the experiment. However, citric acid level found to be 460 mg in the liver and 415 mg in kidney of control rats. The values slightly increased to 480 and 680 mg in respective tissues of thyroxine treated animals for 24 hr. The values decreased in 48 and 72 hours of treatment. Further the values found to be increased after 96 hours of treatment. Although the thyroxine treatment altered citric acid, Creatinine, Cholesterol, Triglycerides and CPK levels in the tissues, the serum α-Amylase was not influenced by the thyroxine. The study suggests that the thyroxine acts as a regulator all the above parameters in the cellular level.

Background & Aims: Green tea is known worldwide for its high content of polyphenolic compounds and multifactorial beneficial effects on human health. The role of green tea as an inhibitor of lipid hydrolysis is widely discussed. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of green tea extract on lipid digestion and absorption. Methods: The study comprised 32 healthy volunteers aged 23 to 30 years with normal exocrine pancreatic function. In all subjects 13C-labelled mixed triglyceride breath test was performed twice with and without green tea extract ingestion. Cumulative percentage dose recovery was considered to reflect digestion and absorption of lipids. Values are expressed as medians and 1st-3rd quartile distribution. Results: In all subjects, cumulative percentage dose recovery values were normal in a placebo test (36.8% <30.1-43.3%>). These results were significantly higher (p=0.021) than those obtained in green tea extract test (28.8% <23.1-37.2%>). Results of six tests with GTE were abnormal. Conclusions: Single dose of green tea extract taken with a test meal decreases lipid digestion and absorption in humans.

Celem pracy było określenie zależności pomiędzy stężeniem lipidów i glukozy w surowicy krwi świń a parametrami charakteryzującymi jakość tuszy i mięsa wieprzowego. Wykazano istotne (p ≤ 0,05) zależności pomiędzy stężeniem lipidów w surowicy krwi i poziomem glukozy a cechami wartości rzeźnej i parametrami określającymi jakość mięsa (r = -0,28 ÷ 0,41).
The objective of the research study was to determine the correlations between the lipid and glucose levels in blood serum of pigs and the parameters characterizing the quality of pork carcass and pork meat. The study performed covered 54 porkers (36 hogs barrows and 18 gilts/sows) derived from crossing the Naïma gilts and the P76-PenArLan hybrid boars. Immediately after slaughter, blood samples of the porkers were taken from their carotid arteries. In the blood serum, the levels of the following components were determined: glucose, triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (CHOL), and HD cholesterol; also, the LDL cholesterol was calculated. After slaughter, the content of meat was determined in the carcasses using a CGM apparatus. In the longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle, the following was determined: pH values 45 min., 3 h, and 24 h after slaughter (at the height of the last rib), L*a*b* colour parameters, normal drip loss, and glycolytic potential. The coefficients of correlations were calculated among the traits analyzed. On the basis of the glucose content in the blood serum, the pigs in the population studied were divided into two groups, which differed in their lipid profiles, levels of glucose in the blood serum, and meat quality. The meat of pigs in the group characterized by higher levels of triglycerides (103.13 mg/100 ml vs. 76.32 mg/100 ml) and glucose (137.87 mg/100 ml vs. 81.98 mg/100 ml) had a lower pH 45 min. (6.34 vs. 6.54), 3 h(6.12 vs. 6.33), and 24 h (5.50 vs 5.58) post mortem, and a higher glycolytic potential (148.36 μmol/g vs. 134.90 μmol/g) as well as a higher normal drip loss (5.11 % vs. 3.95%). Significant correlations were confirmed to exist among the levels of lipids and glucose in blood serum and the characteristics of slaughter value and meat quality parameters (r = -0.28 ÷ 0.41 p ≤ 0.05).

Określano stężenie cholesterolu całkowitego, HDL, LDL i triglicerydów u kur rasy polbar w 8., 12. oraz 18. tygodniu życia. Materiał do badań stanowiła krew pobrana z żyły odłokciowej (v. basilica). W surowicy krwi kur oznaczono stężenie cholesterolu całkowitego, HDL i triglicerydów metodą kolorymetryczną, wykorzystując komercyjne zestawy, natomiast oznaczanie stężenia LDL wyliczono ze wzoru [Friedewald i in. 1972]. Uzyskane wyniki stężenia cholesterolu całkowitego, HDL, LDL i triglicerydów, u skonsolidowanej genetycznie rasy kur pólbar, mogą być wykorzystywane do porównań z innymi rasami drobiu.
Total cholesterol content as well as HDL, LDL and trigliceride levels were determined in 8-, 12- and 18-week old polbar cocks and hens. The material for analysis was blood collectedfrom the basilic vein (v. basilica). In the blood serum determination of the total cholesterol content as well as HDL and triglyceride levels, whereas the LDL concentration level was calculated from an appropriate formula. The total cholesterol content and HDL levels in the polbar hen serum were both sex and age-dependent. Slightly higher values were determined for the cocks. LDL concentration in polbar hens decreased along with age, whereas triglyceride levels increased as the birds grew older. Themales were characterized by higher concentration levels. The obtained concentration values for total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides in the genetically consolidated polbar chickens can be employed for comparisons with other poultry breeds.

The present study aimed to determine the role of job components and individual parameters on the raised blood pressure among male workers of textile industry who were exposed to continuous high noise level. Information of all eligible subjects including demographic and individual characteristics, medical history and job characteristics were obtained by direct interview and referring to the medical records. All blood pressure measurements were done using mercury sphygmomanometer in the morning before work. The 8-hours equivalent A-weighted sound pressure level, the level of blood cholesterol and triglyceride, and noise annoyance was determined for each worker. As the result of weighted regression in path analysis (direct effect), only the work shift did not have a significant effect on blood pressure among the studiem variables. It can be seen that variables including the level of triglyceride, cholesterol, and noise exposure have the most direct effects on blood pressure. The results of total effects showed that variables, including using the hearing protection device, age, work experience and visibility of sound source, did not have a significant effect on blood pressure. The results of this study indicate that occupational noise exposure alone and combined with other job components and individual parameters is associated with raised blond pressure. However, noise exposure was probably a stronger stressor for increased blood pressure.
