Opis:
Using Lanczos exact diagonalization of finite clusters we demonstrate that the spin-orbital $d^1$ model for triply degenerate $t_{2g}$ orbitals on a triangular lattice provides an example of a spin-orbital liquid ground state. We also show that the spin-orbital liquid involves entangled valence bond states which violate the Goodenough-Kanamori rules, and modify effective spin exchange constants.

Opis:
Based on the triangular lattice and its depletions there are three simple frustrated antiferromagnetic Heisenberg models in two dimensions. The first two, the triangular and kagomé lattices, have been examined in the recent past. The triangular lattice seems to have a long range order whereas the kagomé does not show the long range order. But these results are still controversial. This work is concentrated on a third type of this lattice family in order to improve the understanding of the connection between the long range order and coordination number in low dimensional systems. Bets has described the geometric properties of this lattice. It has a coordination number 5, which lies precisely between coordination numbers 6 and 4 of the other two lattices. The low-lying spectra and the correlation functions of finite lattices have been examined to discuss the possibility of a long range ordered ground state in the 1/7-depleted triangular lattice. The low-lying spectrum is generated by an exact diagonalization, and the tower of states behavior points to a long range ordered ground state.

We investigate properties of the two-dimensional Penson-Kolb model with repulsive pair hopping interaction. In the case of a bipartite square lattice this interaction may lead to the eta-type pairing, when the phase of superconducting order parameter changes from one lattice site to the neighboring one. We show that this interaction may be responsible for the onset of superconductivity also for a triangular lattice. We discuss the spatial dependence of the superconducting order parameter and demonstrate that the total momentum of the paired electrons is determined by the lattice geometry.

An Ising antiferromagnet on a stacked triangular lattice in zero field is studied by Monte Carlo simulations, focusing on the character of the low-temperature phase and the effect of the relative strength of the exchange interaction in the stacking direction α. Our results support the presence of the 3D Wannier phase, with the sublattice magnetization structure (m, -m, 0) and power-law decaying m with the lattice size. The extent of this low-temperature phase shrinks with decreasing α, however, it appears even at very low values if it is accessed from higher temperatures by sufficiently slow cooling.

We study effects of an external magnetic field and random site dilution on the magnetic ordering in the geometrically frustrated triangular lattice Ising antiferromagnet by the use of an effective-field theory with correlations. In particular, we find that already a small amount of the quenched dilution locally relieves the frustration which in the presence of the external field is manifested by multiple splitting of a broad frustration-induced 1/3 magnetization plateau. Depending on the field strength, the dilution can either decrease or increase the magnetization or even change its effect from decreasing to increasing.

Opis:
The mechanism of superconductivity generation by spin fluctuations in the electron doped canted antiferromagnet on the triangular lattice was analyzed. The underlying assumption is that the formation of the bound state is the prerequisite of pairing. The outcome of this analysis is also valid if an additional isotropic attraction is active but the anisotropic spin-fluctuation mediated force decides on the symmetry of the two-particle bound state. When the canted antiferromagnetic state is generated, the symmetry of the point group $C_{6v}$ for the triangular lattice is lowered to the symmetry of $C_{3v}$. It is demonstrated that spin fluctuations definitely favor the p-wave bound state, which transforms according to the E representation of $C_{3v}$. Since the inversion is not an element of $C_{3v}$, the parity is not a good quantum number and thus the predicted paired state will be a mixture of singlet and triplet. Such a scenario may be relevant to physics of superconducting triangular cobaltates or organics.

We have studied the temperature dependence of the lattice parameters and the influence of spin anisotropy on the electron paramagnetic spectra of $Cu(tn)Cl_2$, an S=1/2 quasi-two-dimensional spatially-anisotropic triangular-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet. The variation of the resonance fields with temperature reflects the presence of an easy-plane exchange anisotropy with $J_{z}$/$J_{x,y}$<1 and g-factor anisotropy, $g_{z}$/$g_{x,y}$>1.

Opis:
Motivated by the recent experiment in $NiGa_{2}S_{4}$, the spin-1 Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice with the ferromagnetic nearest- and antiferromagnetic third-nearest-neighbor exchange interactions, $J_{1}$ = -(1 - p)J and $J_{3}$ = pJ, J > 0, is studied in the range of the parameter 0 ≤ p ≤ 1. Mori's projection operator technique is used as a method, which retains the rotation symmetry of spin components and does not anticipate any magnetic ordering. For zero temperature several phase transitions are observed. At p ≈ 0.2 the ground state is transformed from the ferromagnetic order into a disordered state, which in its turn is changed to an antiferromagnetic long-range ordered state with the incommensurate ordering vector Q' ≈ (1.16, 0) at p ≈0.31. With growing p the ordering vector moves along the line Q'-$Q_{c}$ to the commensurate point $Q_{c}$ = (2π/3, 0), which is reached at p = 1. The final state with the antiferromagnetic long-range order can be conceived as four interpenetrating sublattices with the 120° spin structure on each of them. Obtained results offer a satisfactory explanation for the experimental data in $NiGa_{2}S_{4}$.

A vertex subset S of a graph G is a perfect (resp. quasiperfect) dominating set in G if each vertex v of G∖S is adjacent to only one vertex ($d_v$ ∈ {1,2} vertices) of S. Perfect and quasiperfect dominating sets in the regular tessellation graph of Schläfli symbol {3,6} and in its toroidal quotients are investigated, yielding the classification of their perfect dominating sets and most of their quasiperfect dominating sets S with induced components of the form $K_ν$, where ν ∈ {1,2,3} depends only on S.

Opis:
The plane wave expansion method was implemented in modelling and simulating the band structures of two dimensional photonic crystals with square, triangular and honeycomb lattices with circular, square and hexagonal dielectric rods and air holes. Complete band gaps were obtained for square lattice of square GaAs rods and honeycomb lattice of circular and hexagonal GaAs rods as well as triangular lattice of circular and hexagonal air holes in GaAs whereas square lattice of square or circular air holes in a dielectric medium ε = 18 gave complete band gaps. The variation of these band gaps with dielectric contrast and filling factor gave the largest gaps for all configurations for a filling fraction around 0.1.The gap maps presented indicated that TM gaps are more favoured by dielectric rods while TE gaps are favoured by air holes. The geometrical gap maps operating at telecommunication wavelength λ = 1.55 m showed that a complete band gap can be achieved for triangular lattice with circular and hexagonal air holes in GaAs and for honeycomb lattice of circular GaAs rods.

Opis:
The Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice is a prime example for a geometrically frustrated spin system. However most experimentally accessible compounds have spatially anisotropic exchange interactions. As a function of this anisotropy, ground states with different magnetic properties can be realized. On the other hand, the J₁-J₂ model on the square lattice is a well-known example for frustration induced by competing exchange. The classical phase diagrams of the two models are related in a broad range of the control parameter ϕ=$tan^{-1}$(J₂/J₁). In both cases three different types of ground states are realized, each model having a ferromagnetic and an antiferromagnetic region in the phase diagram, and a third phase with columnar magnetic order for the square lattice and an in general incommensurate spiral structure for the triangular lattice. Quantum effects lift degeneracies in the non-FM phases and lead to additional nonmagnetic regions in the phase diagrams. The contribution of zero point fluctuations to ground state energy, wave vector, and ordered moment is discussed.
