- Opis:
- This article presents different opinions of two American diplomatists - J. Monroe and J. Q. Adams about French events in years 1794-1797. J. Monroe was of opinion that rules of Dyrektoriat stabilized home situation in France in this period. In opinion of J. Monroe this government wanted to create republican system, in structure similar to American political system. However J. Q. Adams was of different opinion. In his reports from Prague to America he persuaded, that French system is far from home stabilization. The main aspiration of French republic was domination in Europe. He was also a witness of Holland downfall and birth of Batawska Republic in 1795. He noticed, that politics of Dyrektoriat was very insidious (doublcfaced). This government propagated noble aims (causes) of French revolution to destroy other European nations from the inside and to subordinate them to French politics. He was sure, that French imperialism would lead to the conflict with all Europe. In a measure these diferent reports from Paris and Prague influenced the government of G. Washington and led to the neutral position of this government in politics towards Europe.
