    Opis:
    A number of early works by L.N. Tolstoy is devoted to the problems of love in its modifications, modulations and shades. Tolstoy who, as an artist, discovered the law of “fluidity” of human person proves here that love states are multidimensional and changeable, that movement is the nature of love itself. Love feeling goes through its different kinds: from “beautiful” and “selfless” love to ideal, highly moral “active” love. Gradations are relative, differences among “kinds of love” are caused by degree of presence of subjective-egoistic element. Stages of “dialectics” of feelings are interconnected with emotional and spiritual development of the personality. Tolstoy is sure that man is free in choice of his own way in the life of heart and in his responsibility for it to his own life and other people.

    Il discepolo di Cristo è invitato di esercitare il discernimento spirituale e il discernimento degli spiriti. Quando si tratta di discernimento spirituale, bisogna intendere „spirituale” come livello al quale si esercita il discernimento. San Paolo insegna che i cristiani hanno ricevuto lo Spirito di Dio, per poter distinguere ciò che viene da Dio (cf. 1 Cor 2, 12). Quando si parla di discernimento degli spiriti, si tratta del ogetto a cui si applica il discernimento (situazioni di spirito, luci, mozioni e pure gli spiriti – esseri di natura personale – che agiscono nell’uomo). Solo l’uomo „spirituale” è capace di esercitare il discernimento spirituale. Nella Bibbia si trovano i dati, che aiutano a distinguere l’agire dello spirito maligno, dello „spirito della natura umana”, e pure dello Spirito Santo. La chiave fondamentale del discernimento sono le parole di Cristo riportate dal Vangelo. Sulla base biblica e tradizione ecclesiale, la Chiesa può riscoprire le nuove regole del discernimento, se lo necessita la situazione.

    The purpose of this article is to present, based on the second part of the „Manual of Spiritual Exercise” (Elementarzyk ćwiczenia duchownego, Kraków 1626) by Mikołaj of Mościska (1559–1632), the role of stylistic literary devices in the description of meditative mechanisms and the results of this experience — the inner transformation of Man, and the experience of closeness to and unification with God. The author will also draw attention to the significance of senses in the cognitive process, and consequently imagination, enabling one to picture the images contained in metaphors. The category of perceptibility, which is accentuated in the text, served to present objects and phenomena in a “realistic” manner. Thus, focus will be placed on the imaging tools through which the 17th century author attempted to draw metaphysical matters closer to the reader’s senses.

    Artykuł zawiera analizę elementów apokaliptycznych w nietłumaczonym na język polski utworze Shadows of Ecstasy (1933) Charlesa Williamsa (1886-1945) – brytyjskiego poety, dramaturga, świeckiego teologa, krytyka literackiego i autora siedmiu powieści określanych jako „thrillery metafizyczne”. Bazując na teoretycznych ustaleniach takich badaczy jak Barry Brummett (1991) czy Douglas Robinson (1998), Andrzej Sławomir Kowalczyk analizuje „apokaliptyczność” świata powieści zarówno w odniesieniu do aspektów społeczno-politycznych, jak i religijnych/ duchowych. Autor artykułu podkreśla fakt, że mimo licznych podobieństw do Księgi Apokalipsy, powieść nie pozwala na automatyczne „przeniesienie” biblijnych interpretacji konfliktu dobra i zła. Wynika to m. in. z ambiwalencji w konstrukcji kluczowych postaci (zwłaszcza typu „Antychrysta” Nigela Considine’a), z dominującego punktu widzenia, oraz z otwartego zakończenia powieści. Zdaniem badacza taka kompozycja jest swego rodzaju Williamsowskim zaproszeniem czytelnika do przeżycia jego własnej „małej apokalipsy” czy „objawienia” – w sensie odkrywania pierwiastka duchowego w dominującym na początku XX w. materialistycznym obrazie świata.
    The study examines Shadows of Ecstasy (1933), the earliest novel of Charles Williams (1886-1945)—British poet, playwright, theological writer, literary critic, bibliographer, and author of seven works of fiction—in the context of the apocalyptic as discussed by Barry Brummett (1991), Douglas Robinson (1998), and other scholars. Based on the characteristics presented by Brummet, Andrzej Sławomir Kowalczyk traces apocalyptic motifs in the novel, drawing attention to both its socio-political and religious/spiritual aspects. Kowalczyk comes to the conclusion that despite some evident allusions to the biblical apocalyptic, Williams’s text is more ambiguous than its biblical hypotext in terms of its ideological/moral significance, raising a number of open-ended questions. This, in turn, extends its apocalyptic “revelation” onto the reader, who is invited to rethink her/his perception of Western culture/civilization, making room for some spiritual/metaphysical elements in the materialistic outlook predominant in the 20th century.

    Der Beitrag ist Paul Scheerbarts Orientdarstellungen in drei ausgewählten Werken gewidmet: "Der Tod der Barmekiden. Arabischer Haremsroman" (1897), "Tarub. Bagdads berühmte Köchin. Arabischer Kulturroman" (1897) und "Machtspässe. Arabische Novellen" (1904). Weil der Autor den Nahen Osten nie besucht hat, stützte er sich bei seinen Beschreibungen auf mehrere Quellen, die er dann beliebig umgestaltet hat. Leidenschaft, Sehnsucht nach höheren Werten, Brutalität, Rachsucht und Kämpfe um die Macht, die mit Blutbädern enden, verflechten sich mit märchenhaften Szenerien und sagenhaften Wesen, um den Rezipienten von dem Gedanken abzulenken, dass das alte Bagdad für Berlin, das Jahr 897 für 1897 und Aschas Probleme für jene von Scheerbart stehen könnten. Dichter-, Welt- und Rebellenmacht – in diesen drei Worten drückt sich das Wesen des Scheerbartschen Orients aus.
    'The article was dedicated to presentations of the Orient in three selected works by Paul Scheerbart: 'The death of the Barmakids. Arab Harem novel' (1897), 'Tarub. Baghdad's famous female cook. Arab culture novel' (1897) and 'Jests about power. Arab novellas' (1904). As the author has never visited the Middle East, he draws from several sources, which he then transforms as he wishes. Passion, longing for higher values, brutality, revenge and fighting for the power ending with bloodbaths intertwine with the fairytale sceneries and legendary beings, to distract the recipient from the thought that the old Baghdad is Berlin, the year 897 – 1897 and Ascha’s problems could be the problems of Scheerbart. Power of poets, world and rebels – the essence of Scheerbart’s Orient is expressed in these words.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest wizjom Orientu w trzech wybranych utworach Paula Scheerbarta: „Śmierć Barmakidów. Arabska powieść haremowa” (1897), „Tarub. Sławna kucharka z Bagdadu. Arabska powieść kulturowa” (1897) oraz „Żarty o władzy. Nowele arabskie” (1904). Ponieważ autor nigdy nie odwiedził Bliskiego Wschodu, odwoływał się w swoich utworach do tekstów źródłowych, które dowolnie przekształcał. Namiętność, tęsknota za wyższymi wartościami, brutalność, żądza zemsty oraz walka o władzę, która kończy się rzezią, przeplatają się z baśniowymi sceneriami i legendarnymi istotami, aby odwieść odbiorcę od myśli, że Bagdad równie dobrze mógłby być Berlinem, rok 897 – rokiem 1897, a problemy Aschy – problemami samego Scheerbarta.

    This paper tries to present Pietism as a current and set of ideas linked to the Enlightenment, as a culture focused on individualism and “subjectification”, as well as on the need to dismantle the old authorities and hierarchies. Such a way of thinking is visible in the religious poetry at that time, with the Danish pastor Hans Adolph Brorson. His main work The Rare Jewel of the Faith (Troens rare Klenodie, 1739), a collection of hymns used in the Danish and Norwegian church till today, belongs to the canon of the Danish literature.

    Aim/Thesis. Important for all the Christian confessions, spiritual autobiography has, unfortunately until now, been insufficiently investigated and highlighted by contemporary researchers. Concept/Methods. Therefore, using information from sources like Confessions of Saint Augustin, but also recent works like the one of Saint Silouan from Athos, Saint John of Kronstadt or Nicolas Berdiaev, using these representative sources for the Orthodox sphere and other volumes, studies and articles, we will try to analyse this genre, to emphasise its interdisciplinary valences, and to show which are landmarks in the Orthodox sphere. We will also try to present its particularities here, its common points with other confessional spheres (Catholic or Protestant), and its practical importance for the Christian life. The information provided by the aforementioned sources will be investigated using deductive, analytic, and inductive methods (and also, the narrative one when the situation will request it).  Results and conclusion. The investigation will show to the reader why, despite of the fact that is a peripheral genre of Theological literature, spiritual autobiography is important for investigation and it helps to create bridges between different spiritualties and investigation domains, but also its potential practical use. Originality/Cognitive value. The analysis is also important because there we will show that, a long time before the rediscovering of subjectivism and subjectivity in literature (which happened in the 20th century, with Modernism), in the theological space this topic was not only known but also valorised in this genre. As methods, we will both use the deductive and the analytic, but we will also not neglect the narrative one.

    This article, based on some contemporary Russian literary research studies, contains a reflection on Ivan Shmelov’s prose in the context of the spiritual paradigm of Russian classical literature. Typical Shmelov motifs, such as the “Holy Rus”, a monastery as a symbol of an Orthodox center, the spiritual life of heroes, the individual and national internal way towards a new religious Renaissance – are developed in the manner of “spiritual realism”. They are also linked with the religious themes and aspects of the prose of Russian emigrant writers as well as with prerevolutionary pieces of literature, including texts from the time of old Russian literature.

    Zagadnienie tradycji chrześcijańskiej w spuściźnie A. Płatonowa w świetle ewolucji świadomości twórczej pisarza Przedmiotem pracy jest kwestia tradycji chrześcijańskiej w twórczości Płatonowa. Celem działań badawczych jest pokazanie nieprzerwanego odniesienia pisarza, mimo bogoburczych nastrojów szczególnie widocznych we wczesnej twórczości, do prawosławia. O ile w owym wczesnym okresie oraz w latach 30. zagadnienie to może być ukazywane w kategoriach przyciągania i odrzucania, o tyle wojenna twórczość Płatonowa wykazuje bliskość tradycji ojców, nie tylko na poziomie pamięci gatunku, lecz także jako prawdziwe przeżycie autora. Teza ta zostaje postawiona na podstawie analizy opowiadania Взыскание погибших, przeprowadzonej w aspekcie autobiograficznym i duchowym. Badania pokazały, że twórczość pisarza może być uznana za wyrazisty przykład zjawiska, które we współczesnym literaturoznawstwie zyskało miano tradycjonalizmu. Проблема христианской традиции в наследии А. Платонова в свете эволюции творческого сознания писателя Предмет работы – проблема христианской традиции в творчестве Платонова. Цель работы – показать непрерванность отношения писателя с православием, несмотря на его богоборческие настроения, особенно активные в раннем творчестве. Если для раннего периода и периода 1930-х гг. данная проблема может быть проанализирована в аспекте притяжения-отталкивания, то творчество Платонова военного времени показывает близость к традиции отцов не только на уровне памяти жанра, но как активное авторское переживание. Данное положение проводится на материале рассказа Взыскание погибших, исследованного в духовном и автобиографическом контексте. Как показал анализ произведений Платонова разных периодов творчества, его наследие служит яркой иллюстрацией того явления, которое в современном литературоведении получило определение неотрадиционализма.
    The subject of this article – the problem of the Christian tradition in the works by Platonov. The purpose is to demonstrate the continuity of the author's attitude to Orthodoxy despite his god-fighting frame of mind particularly active in the early period of the author's work. While for the early and 1930-s periods this issue can be analyzed through attraction-repulsion, Platonov’s work of the wartime period reveals his kinship to the fathers’ tradition not only on the genre memory level but also as the author’s active emotional experience. This view is based on the story The Seeker of the Lost studied in the spiritual and autobiographical context. As shown by the analysis of Plato's work from different periods of creativity, his work serves as a vivid illustration of the phenomenon that in modern literary criticism received the definition of neotraditionalism.

    Opis:
    In the Czech literary scene, it is Jáchym Topol who may justly be labelled the author most consumed with Central Europe, one who is constantly attempting to decrypt the message encoded in its scars and wrinkles. His fictional treatment of Central-European themes is preceded by thorough knowledge of both the history and present state of the region. However, Topol is not merely a historian; in his fictionalising he uses a poetic, complex perspective, and arrives thus at a unique expression. Particular recurring figures in his literary work seem to answer in a riddle the questions of present-day Central Europe. First one of those is the biblical image of the field or of the pile of bones. In Topol’s writing, it represents both the systematic violence in Central-European history, and universal onus. The second recurring figure is the figure of a good-hearted headsman. In Topol’s prosaic and dramatic texts, the headsman embodies the ambivalence of the Czech national character, but also its survival strategies. It is intertextually linked to the works of Jaroslav Hašek, and brings the notion “Czechs are a Švejk-like nation” to its absurd, augmented consequences. The third figure which keeps returning in Topol’s work combines the features of a character and of a symbol. It is the figure of Madonna, representing the spiritual dimension of Central European tradition, bound to Christianity. The various Madonnas—the Polish Madonna of Częstochowa, the War Madonna in fictionalised modern-day Russia and eventually the Czech Madonna of Poříčí create the Christian counterworld in Topol’s novels, and signalize the persistent role and presence of spirituality in the region. In Topol’s novel Citlivý člověk it is actually thanks to this Madonna that the whole discourse opens to a new type of perspective.
    Na czeskiej scenie literackiej Jáchym Topol uchodzi za autora najbardziej zainteresowanego Europą Środkową, nieustannie rozszyfrowującego przekaz zapisany w jej bliznach i zmarszczkach. Jego stosunek do tematów środkowoeuropejskich w tekstach fikcyjnych jest zawsze oparty na pogłębionym zapoznaniu się z historią i współczesnością tego obszaru. Topol nie jest jednak historykiem: tworząc fikcję, wykorzystuje złożoną, poetycką perspektywę i osiąga autorski typ ekspresji artystycznej. Określone, powracające symbole i figury zdają się w zagadkowy sposób odpowiadać na współczesne pytania Europy Środkowej. Pierwszy z tych symboli to biblijny obraz doliny suchych kości. Reprezentuje on zarówno metodyczną przemoc w historii środkowoeuropejskiej, jak i uniwersalną odpowiedzialność. Drugi to typ postaci występującej w wielu utworach Topola: dobry kat. Uosabia on ambiwalencję czeskiego charakteru narodowego, ale również jego strategię przetrwania. Postać dobrego kata intertekstualnie łączy się z twórczością Jaroslava Haška – przyjęte powszechnie przekonanie, że „Czesi są narodem Szwejków”, zostaje doprowadzone do absurdu. Trzecim symbolem pojawiającym się w twórczości Topola jest postać Madonny, reprezentującej duchowy wymiar środkowoeuropejskiej tradycji związanej z chrześcijaństwem. Madonny – polska Matka Boska Częstochowska, wojenna Madonna w fikcyjnej współczesnej Rosji, czeska Madonna z Poříčí – tworzą chrześcijańskie „przeciw-światy”. Madonny sygnalizują niezastąpioną rolę duchowości w Europie Środkowej, jej rozwój i stałą obecność. W ostatniej powieści Topola, Citlivý člověk (wyd. polskie Wrażliwy człowiek, 2019), dzięki postaci Madonny dyskurs uzyskuje nową perspektywę.

    Opis:
    A leading position in the 17th century Belarusian literature is occupied by Afanasij Filipovich, a writer and publicist, a political and Orthodox Church activist. His “Diariuš”, an autobiographical work is one of the most distinctive examples of polemic publicity devoted to the fight against the Brest Union in 1596 and its tragic consequences. Meanwhile, a special place in the 17th century Russian literature is occupied by protopop Avvakum’s “Žitie” – a remarkable first apostle and a symbol of the Old Believers movement whose life experience served as the first autobiography in Russian literature. Afanasij Filipovich’s “Diariuš” and protopop Avvakum’s “Žitie” present sufficient grounds for considering various typological similarities and parallels in authors’ fate and the pathos of their works. New principles of the selfawareness of an individual and the ways of expressing them are present in the works of Belarusian and Russian writers.

Розглянуто бінарне протиставлення образів духовного і матеріального світів у системі біблійної герменевтики української барокової літератури на прикладах творів україномовних та польськомовних авторів таких як Лазар Баранович, Інокентій Гізель, Іоанник Галятовський, Стефан Яворський, Данило Туптало, Антоній Радивіловський, Григорій Сковорода та інші, які одностайно приходять висновку, що обрання Бога і Його Мудрості є джерелом земного затишку  і людського щастя.
    Hermeneutyka biblijna, opracowana i rozwijana zarówno przez Ojców Kościoła zachodniego, jak i wschodniego, odegrała istotną rolę w tworzeniu ukraińskiej literatury barokowej. Binarna opozycja obrazów światów duchowych i materialnych w systemie hermeneutyki biblijnej ukraińskiej literatury barokowej rozważana jest na przykładzie ukraińskiej i polskiej twórczości takich autorów, jak Łazarz Baranowicz, Innocenty Gizel, Ioannicjusz Galatowski, Stefan Jaworski, Danił Tuptałow, Antoni Radziwiłowski, Hrygoryj Skovoroda i inni, którzy jednogłośnie dochodzą do wniosku, że źródłem ziemskiej pociechy i ziemskiego szczęścia ludzkiego jest wybór Boga i jego Mądrości.
    Biblical hermeneutics, compiled and developed by both the Western and Eastern Church Fathers, played an essential role in the formation of Ukrainian baroque literature. The binary opposition of images of the spiritual and material worlds in the system of biblical hermeneutics of Ukrainian baroque literature is considered, based on examples of Ukrainian and Polish works by Lazar Baranovych, Innokenty Gizel, Ioanniki Galyatovsky, Stefan Yavorsky, Danylo Tuptalo, Anthony Radyvilovsky, Gregory Skovoroda and others, who unanimously conclude that the choosing of God and his Wisdom is the source of earthly comfort and human happiness.
