    Advertisement isn’t very popular object of analysis in the field of literary studies, based on the constitutive and self‐determined dynamics of selfless query of formal perfection. Advertisement, dedicated to the economy, is not easily exonerate there. However, if we keep this idealistic and elitist doxa suspended, therefore we will see that the discourse of publicity is activating – as every discourse is – the spectacular axiological function which makes understand our motivations to act in the social reality. Are they relevant in transcultural context? This article tries to respond to this question, comparing contemporary publicities from west (Belgium, France) and central (Poland) Europe, advertising anti‐age cosmetics.

    Opis:
    The author concentrates on the meaning of verse Deut 32,30, especially the statement “their Rock sold them”. Her philological-exegetic-theological analysis of the verse and the verses Deut 32,35a. 36a-b allows us to assume that the sentence in question hides an essential salvational truth. It teaches us that God does not stop being a sure footing for His chosen, even then when − as we say it − He punishes them. On the contrary, He is then their rock, more than in other circumstances. He is therefore Someone on Whom one can always and anytime rely, in Whom one may totally confide. By punishing people, He at the same time appears as the One Who raises from the fall, and change human life for better, transform failure into victory.

    The article discusses the views and activities of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Bishop Hryhoriy Khomyshyn at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s. Hryhoriy Khomyshyn was one of the greatest supporters of Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation in the Greek Catholic Church. He was a strong critic of ‘pagan’ Ukrainian nationalism. He made efforts to base the social and political life of Ukrainians on Christian ethics. On such grounds, he sought reconciliation between the Polish and Ukrainian nations. His attitude made him the most serious statesman with whom the Polish authorities found common ground.
    Artykuł dotyczy poglądów i działalności ukraińskiego biskupa greckokatolickiego Grzegorza Chomyszyna na przełomie lat 20. i 30. XX wieku. Grzegorz Chomyszyn należał do największych zwolenników polsko-ukraińskiego pojednania w Kościele greckokatolickim. Był on zdecydowanym krytykiem „pogańskiego” nacjonalizmu ukraińskiego. Życie społeczno-polityczne Ukraińców starał się oprzeć na etyce chrześcijańskiej. Na takim też gruncie szukał pojednania między narodem polskim i ukraińskim. Jego postawa czyniła go najpoważniejszym mężem stanu, z którym władze polskie znajdowały płaszczyznę porozumienia.

    This article explores the selected cases of the biographies of right-wing supporters from a larger sample of narrative interviews with young (18-35 years old) people in Poland and Germany. In the existing literature, we can find the socio-economic explanations of the sources of the right-wing turn (related to economic deprivation, precarisation, social exclusion, labor market competition with immigrants and others), as well as cultural explanations connected with new identity politics, symbolic exclusion and divide between society and political elites, the disembedding from previously solid communities, and the fear of new risks related to the inflow of cultural Others. Despite notable exceptions, it is rather uncommon to discuss in this context the actual biographical experiences of right-wing and far-right supporters. In the article, we take a closer look at four biographical cases of people declaring their political support for far right parties. The analysis of the cases leads to the distinction of socio-economic and socio-political pathways to right-wing populist support.

    The objective of the article is to analyze the attitudes of foreign language teachers towards students’ mother tongues or heritage languages, as migrant students to the city of Gdańsk, Poland, use them as a compensation strategy in formal language learning. On the basis of a survey methodology, the author will try to explore language teacher beliefs regarding the perception of the coexistence and the use of other languages (including Polish) in mainstream FL education and attempt to compile good practices in this regard, reported by the teachers surveyed. Referring to his earlier research (Lankiewicz 2013, 2015, 2019, 2020, 2021), the author hypothesizes that language teachers manifesting higher levels of critical language awareness will be more prone to draw upon students’ linguistic repertoires in the education processes, while others will suppress any form of intercomprehension, code-switching or language meshing.

    The stereotype of a football supporter presented in the media and functioning in society is negative. Football fans see themselves in an utterly different light. They consider themselves as people who follow particular values (love, adherence, loyalty) and they are ready for commitment and implicitly devoted to their passion, i.e. supporting their beloved team. Football supporters write, perform and record their own musical compositions about their own character which is significantly different than the stereotype and thereby they gain another form of communication.
    Stereotyp kibica piłki nożnej, przedstawiany w mediach oraz funkcjonujący w społeczeństwie, ma charakter negatywny. Sami fani piłkarscy widzą siebie w innym świetle, jako ludzi kierujących się w życiu określonymi wartościami (miłość, wierność, lojalność), gotowych do poświęceń i bezgranicznie oddanych swojej pasji – kibicowaniu ukochanej drużynie. O własnym portrecie, różniącym się znacząco od funkcjonującego stereotypu, piszą utwory, które nagrywają i wykonują dla sympatyków klubów piłkarskich, zyskując w ten sposób kolejną formę komunikowania.

    The article presents young Żeromski’s fascination with the writings of Paul Bourget. Basing on the Polish writer’s journal entries concerned with Une crime d’amour and Mensonges one can trace an ambivalent attitude towards those psychological novels developed in the late 1880s. By young Żeromski’s standards Bourget falls behind other masters of prose he admires at the time, namely Turgenev and Dostoyevsky. Still, despite Bourget’s didacticism, the aspiring youth cannot refrain from fascination for the descriptions of characters, whose emotions so often so clearly mirror his own. There are at least a few plots (an aspiring writer’s ambitions in the great world, the memory of a love lost etc.) which could have caught Żeromski’s attention as valid attempts to capture experiences known to him as well. It is therefore the identification process that stands in the way of condemning the moralistic ambitions of Bourget and allows the French writer’s works to remain an important point of reference for the Polish witer’s upcoming writing endeavors.

    Jakub Perelman, the author of memoirs, was born on 20 December 1902 in Warsaw. He was politically linked to the Zionist revisionists. This movement was created after the First World War thanks to the activity of Vladimir Jabotinsky. He was a poet, a soldier and a politician. Perelman’s memoirs concern his political activity, Polish-Jewish relations during the Second Polish Republic, events from the Second World War, and his views on life in People’s Poland. The last fragment of the memoir is related to Israel, where Perelman was in the early 1960s.
    Jakub Perelman, autor wspomnień urodził się 20 grudnia 1902 r. w Warszawie. Politycznie związany był z syjonistami- rewizjonistami. Ruch ten powstał po I wojnie światowej dzięki działalności Włodzimierza Żabotyńskiego. Był on poetą, żołnierzem oraz politykiem. Wspomnienia J. Perelmana dotyczą jego aktywności politycznej, relacji polsko-żydowskich w okresie II Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, wydarzeń z II wojny światowej, a także jego zapatrywań za życie w Polsce Ludowej. Ostatni fragment wspomnień jest związany z Izraelem, w którym J. Perelman znalazł się na początku lat 60. XX w.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza określeń nawiązujących do Żydów w wypowiedziach niedarzących się wzajemną sympatią kibiców dwóch klubów piłkarskich z Łodzi — Widzewa i ŁKS-u. Materiał egzemplifikacyjny został pozyskany z forów internetowych. Posługiwanie się etykietą Żyda odbywa się dwustronnie. Fani obu łódzkich klubów używają nie tylko ekspresywizmu Żyd, w języku kibiców zawsze będącego wyrazem deprecjacji i zniewagi, lecz także nacechowanych pejoratywnie jego derywatów oraz licznych określeń synonimicznych i metaforycznych, które mają na celu wyśmianie przeciwnika.
    The aim of the article is to analyze the terms referring to Jews in statements of supporters of two football clubs from Łódź — Widzew and ŁKS. The exemplification material was obtained from online forums. A characteristic feature of Łódź supporters is that the use of the Jew’s label is two-sided. Expressionism The Jew, in the language of fans always being an expression of depreciation and insults, in the statements of internet fans of both clubs from Łódź not only got pejorative derivatives, but also numerous synonymous and metaphorical terms that are intended to ridicule the opponent.

    This article describes how different attitudes towards reality develop as a result of living under a communist regime that undergoes dynamic economic and social transformation. The main focus is placed on Zhang Yimou, the renowned Chinese director, whose life and work seem to reflect on-going changes in a unique way,  showing a pattern closely correlated with the political and social situation in China. The author describes how two major revolutions, the Cultural Revolution and the following economic transformation of China, shaped the life of Zhang and influenced his work. When analyzed in depth, his movies form cycles which coincide with the rapidly changing social and political circumstances. Three such cycles are described: an independent movie-making stage, developing around the early stages of economic transformation and the events in Tiananmen Square in 1989; an intermediate stage related to the development of a new, semi-capitalist society in the nineties; and finally, a commercial stage related to the great economic boom of the first decade of the twenty-first century.
