Opis:
The demand for cobalt has increased significantly in recent years due to its use in a wide variety of products and processes. Cobalt and nickel often accompany each other in nature and close physicochemical properties of both metals make their separation a complicated practical problem. Organophosphorous extractants have been widely used to separate cobalt from nickel. This paper presents the preliminary results obtained for separation of cobalt from nickel using Cyanex 272 containing supported liquid membranes prepared by a novel ultrasound-assisted method. The results show that this novel supported liquid membrane preparation method leads to higher separation factors than those described in the literature under similar separation conditions.

Opis:
Ionic liquids are widely used in supported ionic liquid membranes technology, especially in gas separation and purification processes. This work characterizes the ability of ionic liquids to wet commercially available porous supports used for such purposes. Characterization of supports and membrane phases was carried out in order to determine factors influencing wetting process. Experimental method based on capillary rise is widely used for porous media characterization (i.e. pore radius, contact angle). Measurements of penetration distance or liquid mass are two main experimental methods, in which the Washburn equation is a basic instrument to analyze the obtained results. However, polymeric porous supports do not meet Washburn assumptions and the method is loaded with human errors, so the sessile drop method was used. The rate of wetting influences swelling effects and therefore changes in permeation path during gas separation processes are observed. Influence of ionic liquids structure on wetting and swelling of porous supports was investigated. The families of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium (Cnmim), ammonium (Nnnnn), 1-alkyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium (CnPyrr) and 1-alkylpyridinium (CnPy) compounds with variable alkyl chain lengths in cation structures and changeable anions were taken into account in wetting and swelling experiments.

Opis:
In present study, the synergistic separation of Cr(VI) has been investigated from synthetic acidic solution containing Cr(VI), Co(II) and Ni(II) by fl at sheet supported liquid membrane (FSSLM) technique using triisooctylamine (TIOA) and tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) as carriers. The main goal of the study was based in the exploring of the synergistic effect of TBP on selective extraction of Cr(VI) in presence of Co(II) and Ni(II) ions. The various parameters related with membrane and aqueous solution properties were studied to identify the optimum extraction and stripping conditions of the Cr(VI) through FSSLM. In the optimum conditions, initial mass flux (J0) and separation factors (βCr/Co and βCr/Ni) were obtained as 1.49 x 10-05 (kg/m2.s), 382.2 and 725.3 respectively from aqueous H2SO4 media through Celgard 2500 (Celgard Inc., USA) polymer support. As a result, the considerable synergistic infl uence on selective transport of Cr(VI) through FSSLM using TIOA and TBP as carriers has been identified.
