Opis:: Among solid wastes one may distinguish mixed wastes, segregated wastes (collected selectively) and biodegradable wastes originating from open-air markets, green areas or cemeteries. Mixed wastes have constituted the largest proportion in the stream of municipal solid waste (MSW), both before and after the changes in waste management system in Poland introduced on 1 July 2013. The other group, regarding the collected wastes volume, is so-called segregation. It has been forecasted that in the nearest future the amount of segregated wastes will be successively growing. The article presents the analysis of selectively collected wastes (paper, plastics, glass and metal) indicators from lower administrative units of Liszki and Mogilany communities. The degree of segregated wastes accumulation efficiency was assessed on the basis of conducted computation. The communities selected for the analysis are suburban municipalities, situated in the area of Krakow agglomeration in the immediate vicinity of the main city of the Malopolskie voivodeship. The main aim of the work was an assessment of selective accumulation of municipal solid wastes in suburban communities. Values of quantitative indices, characterizing mixed and segregated municipal solid waste generated by the inhabitants of individual lower administrative units of the studied communities were subjected to a detailed analysis. The data assumed for the investigations cover the period from July 2012 to June 2013. As results from conducted analyses actual indices of wastes accumulation differ from the indices determined on the basis of statistical data and the data stated in the Waste Management Plans, which may evidence a high ecological awareness of the analysed areas inhabitants. The efficiency of selective waste accumulation in the analysed communities was on a similar level and exceeded 20%, i.e. was twice higher than the average for Poland.

Opis:: Celem badań była ocena systemu transportowego gminy Konopiska ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem transportu miejskiego. Analizowany obszar jest położony w regionie miejskim Częstochowy i podlega intensyfikującym się procesom suburbanizacji, które prowadzą do systematycznego wzrostu liczby mieszkańców. Stanowi to poważne wyzwanie dla systemu transportowego gminy, który wymaga w związku z tym szeregu udoskonaleń. Dotyczy to poprawy stanu i rozbudowy dróg, ale przede wszystkim rozwoju transportu zbiorowego. Poza połączeniem siedziby gminy z Częstochową jest on bowiem niewystarczająco rozwinięty i nie zapewnia atrakcyjnej alternatywy wobec samochodu. Wśród proponowanych działań autorzy wymieniają rozbudowę sieci połączeń autobusowych także do bardziej peryferyjnych wsi gminy i optymalizację rozmieszczenia przystanków, co zwiększyłoby dostępność transportu publicznego, a także uruchomienie kursów do najbliższej stacji kolejowej.
The aim of the paper has been to assess the transport system of the commune (Polish: gmina) of Konopiska (Śląskie voivodeship, southern Poland). As the area which has been analysed is located in the metropolitan area of the city of Częstochowa increasing suburbanization processes can be observed there. They result in constant increase in the number of inhabitants of the commune which is a challenge for its transport system. That is why the road network and public transport system in particular should be modernised and developed. Apart from the main line from Konopiska village to the city of Częstochowa the existing bus network is not well developed and does not provide an attractive alternative to private car. The solutions suggested by the authors of the present article include the development of the bus system with lines also connecting periphery villages and bus stop modification in order to increase the accessibility to public transport. Another proposal is a new bus line to the nearest railway station.

Opis:: The article presents socio-demographic, physical-functional and cultural-symbolic change aspects of chosen local communities in Poland, which aretheresult of the gentrification process, making itself real in their space. In the first part of the article information about genesis and the course of gentrification with the characteristic of the main actors’ groups taking part in it is addressed. The second part of the article is devoted to the description of changes being experienced by local communities. Conclusions included in the end concentrate around consequences of progressive gentrification process for local communities and attempts to set a path to prevent negative aspect of theconsequences mentioned.

Opis:: Small mammal community in suburban forests of Bytom was estimated by using an analysis of the Tawny Owl’s Strix aluco pellets. Material collected between 2011 and 2016 contained remains of 324 individuals of mammals belonging to 14 species. Three most frequently noted species (Bank Vole Myodes glareolus, Yellow-necked Mouse Apodemus flavicollis and Common Shrew Sorex araneus) belong to dominating small mammal communities in Polish forests. Species avoiding human-transformed areas: Water Vole Arvicola amphibius, Field Vole Microtus agrestis and Common Dormouse Muscardinus avellanarius were rarely captured by owls. The presence of Common Vole Microtus arvalis and Lesser White-toothed Shrew Crocidura suaveolens suggests that owls’ hunting grounds covered at least edges of open areas. As the forests where the study was conducted were contiguous to a large urban agglomeration, the species richness of small mammal community can be estimated as relatively high.
Analiza zrzutek puszczyka Strix aluco została wykorzystana do określenia struktury zgrupowań drobnych ssaków w lasach podmiejskich Bytomia. W materiale zebranym w latach 2011-2016 stwierdzono szczątki 324 osobników ssaków należących do 14 gatunków. Trzy najliczniej notowane gatunki (nornica ruda Myodes glareolus, mysz leśna Apodemus flavicollis i ryjówka aksamitna Sorex araneus) należą do dominujących w leśnych zgrupowaniach drobnych ssaków w Polsce. Do rzadziej łowionych gatunków, które unikają terenów przekształconych przez człowieka, należały: karczownik Arvicola amphibius, nornik bury Microtus agrestis i orzesznica Muscardinus avellanarius. Obecność takich gatunków, jak: nornik zwyczajny Microtus arvalis i zębiełek karliczek Crocidura suaveolens, wskazuje, że sowy penetrowały też łowiecko przynajmniej obrzeża terenów otwartych. Uwzględniając bliskie sąsiedztwo wielkiej aglomeracji miejskiej, należy stwierdzić, że badane zgrupowanie ssaków charakteryzuje się stosunkowo dużym bogactwem gatunkowym.
