Opis:: The moon is one of the basic motives in the output of K.I. Gałczyński and a designation animated by him the most frequently – in the poet’s lyrics appeared 97 animisations of the moon. Using them the moon is created as a human being: it has a human appearance, it behaviours like a man, it has a human psyche and human interests, it plays various social roles. The type of animisation used the most frequently is the anthropomorphisation and the considerably rarer are anthropopaties, animisations and animalisations. The density degree of the moon animisations in the poems is low (41,9), same as the degree of their frequency (45,3). The majority of samples of the stylistic fi gure plays the poetic function or imparts dynamism to the lyric picture, the other are used for the expressive and humoristic purposes.

Opis:: The article contains an analysis of linguistic and stylistic distinguishing marks of headlines and ending formulas in Henryk Sienkiewicz’s letters to his wives. Particularly, the main subject of this research are expressions to the addressees and other ways of addressing the receivers of this correspondence. The material excerpt covers over 600 letters written during almost 40 years. The dominant of the collected material is expressively characterised vocabulary and names. The most important expression indexes are e.g. diminutive vocabulary, neologisms comparative and superlative adjectives as well as metaphors, epithets and borrowed vocabulary. During the research some significant features of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s writing style and his preferences in the ways of addressing and describing his wives have been indicated.

Opis:: The text contains an analysis of terms of colour and light impressions included in Henryk Sienkiewicz’s private letters. The examination takes into consideration a comprehensive collection – counting over 1400 letters and taking up nearly 3000 printed pages, from which 196 formally and semantically different terms of colour and light have been extracted. The lexis from the examined theme range is a relevant element of the language material of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s private letters. Apart from the stricte information function, which distinguishes and identifi es colourfully described landscapes, natural phenomena, weather, objects or people, the names of colours and chiaroscuro, it emphasizes their exotic, singularity and beauty, cocreates the mood and scenery of the described realities as well as it increases the vividness and suggestiveness of the writer’s story.

Opis:: The article is dedicated to describing the various liaisons between the historical genology and the stylistics. It is an attempt of theoretical reflection on the subject included in the title of the paper. The authour proves that the both domens are strictly related. One can notice that the most useful stylistics method in genological research are functional stylistics and stylistics of discourse.The functional stylistics is very helpful in analysis of both: the speech genres which are stable in the history of communication and the secondary speech genres distinctly connected with their primary pre-genres. As for discourse stylistics, it can be useful above all in describing the evolution and specifics of contemporary and the newest speech genre phenomena, e.g. the Internet genres.

Opis:: The article deals with issues connected with chosen stylistic characteristics of prayers in the paraphrase of David’s Psalter by Mikołaj Rej. The analyses aim to determine the stylistic features of the prayer and to point out the features which give it a unique character. Rej’s prayers are kept in the poetics and conventions of a psalm. They make use of the biblical imagery, at the same time complementing the preceding psalms. Emotional epithets, accumulated through synonymous attributes, play an important role in the stylistic shape of the text. Rej uses means characteristic of the elevated style: evaluating epithets, numerous periphrastic expressions and distinguished metaphors of the biblical origin. On the other hand, Rej’s writing witnesses visible instances of crossing the boundaries of the familiar biblical style. The analyzed texts often assume a conversational character and each request is expressed in an individual, spontaneous way by means of different syntactic structures and emotive lexicon.

Opis:: The paper discusses forms used by Henryk Sienkiewicz to address his sister-in-law, Jadwiga Janczewska, in his letters from 1879–1916. A special bond between the writer and the addressee (family-based, friendly, full of warmth and manly adoration), as well as the literary talent and linguistic creativity were reflected in the abundance and diversity of addressative expressions used by Henryk Sienkiewicz (about 200 lexical units). The basic group consists of unofficial (diminutive, hypocoristic and augmentative) forms of the addressee’s name, such as Dzinka, Dzinia, Dzidek, Dziduś, Dzid. The second, more numerous, group comprises affectonyms, that is intimate names, which generally are motivated by addressee’s physical or mental features, e.g. Żaba, Mgła, Kot, stworzenie, dziecko, figurka, hadziuś. The writer used some affectonyms in multiple phonetic and morphological variants, e.g. Żaba, Żabka, Żabeczka, Żabeusz, Ziaba.

Opis:: The work concerns the usefulness of terms “style” and “discourse” in research of academic Polish evolution. One notices the significant advantages of complementary interpretation of research on the academic Polish evolution. The analysis of style level ensures description of basic and essential – both: stable and changeable – language features, systemic, but stylistically worked. On the other hand the reference to discourse level enables to describe and interpret the phenomena of academic communication in broader aspects, taking into consideration the socio-cultural contexts, which determine the forming of academic Polish in prototype shape, but also its contemporary dissolving in postmodern communication reality. Furthermore, the discourse context opens the research for extralinguistic conditions, previously neglected in analysis of language dynamics.

Opis:: Linguistic stylistics has been undergoing an intensive development. Its vividness is proved by, among other things, its inner divisions, which led to the appearance of divisio- nal disciplines (e.g. pragmatic stylistics, comparative stylistics, analytical stylistics). An important position among them is occupied by historical stylistics. It enters, though it had gained subjectivity, in multiple connections and dependencies with other linguistic disciplines. These connections operate in both directions.The opinion that the dilemmas connected with the stylistic analysis without the suffi- cient knowledge about the condition of the language is endangered by superficiality has XVIto be treated as a truism. Researchers of the contemporary stylistic reality gain the neces- sary Information conceming the systemie- and non-systemic properties of Polish from their own linguistic competence. The matter is morę complicated in case of historical ana- lysis. In this case there is a specific cognitive barrier a so-called time shade, which makes the perception of the text morę difficult. The suggestiveness of the stylistic elements also blurs. In order to overcome the mentioned problems, one has to apply the principles of the widely understood diachronic linguistics.Stylistics can, however, offer a lot to the history of language. Especially, when we treat the latter one as a sphere integrating and systemizing our whole knowledge about the past. Historical stylistic in such circumstances has to be placed lower in the hierarchy of scien- tific disciplines. It can precise our knowledge of the respective subsystems of speech (in principle we posses stylistic works, which refer to every fragment of the linguistic codę, though most place has been devoted to lexis, syntax and word-formation so far) or to wi- den Information from the area of sociolinguistics. A particular role of stylistics in the ma- king of historical-linguistic synthesis is based on supplying the descriptions of the main fimctional variations of the language. According to the binding theoretical instructions, a complex image of the history of Polish should also contain systematical data conceming their appearance and dynamics of development.

Opis:: Autorka artykułu na materiale zabytków starobiałoruskiego piśmiennictwa urzędowego XIV – połowy XVI wieku (ogólnopaństwowe kodeksy – Statut Wіślіckі, Sudziebnіk Kazіmіerza, Statut Wielkiego Księstwa Lіtewskiego 1529, przywileje, wyroki, pozwy, skargi, potwierdzenia, testamenty i inne) określa korpus ustalonych w nich jednostek leksykalnych należących do różnych części mowy. Analizuje strukturę semantyczną wybranych wyrazów, ich przynależność do pewnych grup tematycznych, pochodzenie, relacje synonimiczne i aspektowo-rodzajowe między leksemami. Ustala również specyfikę ich użycia w różnych gatunkach piśmiennictwa urzędowego. Wyniki badań mogą być wykorzystywane w dalszych analizach formowania się i ewolucji systemu leksykalnego języka białoruskiego, jego odmian stylowych, leksykologii i stylistyki historycznej, wpływów językowych, a także w przygotowaniu nowych typów słowników historycznych i w układaniu podkorpusu „Język starobiałoruski” Narodowego Korpusu Języka Białoruskiego.
The article considers examples of Old Belarusian official documents of the 14th to the mid-16th centuries, namely, such national codes as the Vislicki Statut, the Sudziebnik Kazimira, the Statut Vialikaha Kniastva Litoŭskaha 1529, as well as some privileges, bills of complaint, confirmations, testaments, etc. The corpus of lexical units of different parts of speech fixed in these written monuments has been determined; their semantics, belonging to certain thematic groups, origin, structure, synonymous and generic relations between lexemes have been considered; specificity of their use in different genres of business writing has been established. The results of the research are appropriate to use for further study of the formation and evolution of the Belarusian language vocabulary and its stylistic varieties; for scientific developments in the field of historical lexicology, historical stylistics, and interlingual interaction; for preparation of historical dictionaries of new types; as well as in shaping of the Old Belorussian language sub-corpus of the National Corpus of the Belarusian language.
