We show that the Vietoris system of a space is isomorphic to a strong expansion of that space in the Steenrod homotopy category, and from this we derive a simple description of strong homology. It is proved that in ZFC strong homology does not have compact supports, and that enforcing compact supports by taking limits leads to a homology functor that does not factor over the strong shape category. For compact Hausdorff spaces strong homology is proved to be isomorphic to Massey's homology.

In the existing literature there are several constructions of the strong shape category of topological spaces. In the one due to Yu. T. Lisitsa and S. Mardešić [LM1-3] an essential role is played by coherent polyhedral (ANR) expansions of spaces. Such expansions always exist, because every space admits a polyhedral resolution, resolutions are strong expansions and strong expansions are always coherent. The purpose of this paper is to prove that conversely, every coherent polyhedral (ANR) expansion is a strong expansion. This result is obtained by showing that a mapping of a space into a system, which is coherently dominated by a strong expansion, is itself a strong expansion.

The strong efficient bondage number b_se (G) of a non empty graph G is the minimum cardinality among all sets of edges X⊆E such that γ_se (G-X)>γ_se (G). In this paper, the strong efficient bondage number of some path related graphs and some special graphs are studied.

Let W be an inner model of ZFC. Let κ be a cardinal in V. We say that κ-covering holds between V and W iff for all X ∈ V with X ⊆ ON and V ⊨ |X| < κ, there exists Y ∈ W such that X ⊆ Y ⊆ ON and V ⊨ |Y| < κ. Strong κ-covering holds between V and W iff for every structure M ∈ V for some countable first-order language whose underlying set is some ordinal λ, and every X ∈ V with X ⊆ λ and V ⊨ |X| < κ, there is Y ∈ W such that X ⊆ Y ≺ M and V ⊨ |Y| < κ.
  We prove that if κ is V-regular, $κ^+_V = κ^+_W$, and we have both κ-covering and $κ^+$-covering between W and V, then strong κ-covering holds. Next we show that we can drop the assumption of $κ^+$-covering at the expense of assuming some more absoluteness of cardinals and cofinalities between W and V, and that we can drop the assumption that $κ^+_W = κ^+_V$ and weaken the $κ^+$-covering assumption at the expense of assuming some structural facts about W (the existence of certain square sequences).

Opis:
The strong chromatic index of a graph G, denoted by χ′s(G), is the minimum number of vertex induced matchings needed to partition the edge set of G. Let T be a tree without vertices of degree 2 and have at least one vertex of degree greater than 2. We construct a Halin graph G by drawing T on the plane and then drawing a cycle C connecting all its leaves in such a way that C forms the boundary of the unbounded face. We call T the characteristic tree of G. Let G denote a Halin graph with maximum degree Δ and characteristic tree T. We prove that χ′s(G) ⩽ 2Δ + 1 when Δ ⩾ 4. In addition, we show that if Δ = 4 and G is not a wheel, then χ′s(G) ⩽ χ′s(T) + 2. A similar result for Δ = 3 was established by Lih and Liu [21].

The Wiener index of a connected graph G is the sum of distances between all pairs of vertices of G. The strong product is one of the four most investigated graph products. In this paper the general formula for the Wiener index of the strong product of connected graphs is given. The formula can be simplified if both factors are graphs with the constant eccentricity. Consequently, closed formulas for the Wiener index of the strong product of a connected graph G of constant eccentricity with a cycle are derived.

The first result in partition relations topic belongs to Ramsey (1930). Since that this topic has been still explored. Probably the most famous partition theorem is Erdös-Rado theorem (1956). On the other hand in 60’s of the last century Efimov introduced strong sequences method, which was used for proving some famous theorems in dyadic spaces. The aim of this paper is to generalize theorem on strong sequences and to show that it is equivalent to generalized version of well-known Erdös-Rado theorem. It will be also shown that this equivalence holds for singulars. Some applications and conclusions will be presented too.

Let J be an abelian topological semigroup and C a subset of a Banach space X. Let L(X) be the space of bounded linear operators on X and Lip(C) the space of Lipschitz functions ⨍: C → C. We exhibit a large class of semigroups J for which every weakly continuous semigroup homomorphism T: J → L(X) is necessarily strongly continuous. Similar results are obtained for weakly continuous homomorphisms T: J → Lip(C) and for strongly measurable homomorphisms T: J → L(X).
