Opis:
The aim of this work is to design a robust predictive attitude controller when the disturbance is not known and it is modelled based on the stochastic theory and not directly from the environment and its laws. The paper starts with a brief introduction about the interest of attitude control, the state of the art, the limitations and the objectives of the research work. Then it moves on the control model chosen for the work. The main part is related to the modelling of the stochastic disturbance and the actuation of the controller. The results obtained match the initial idea about the capability of the controller to work under an unknown disturbance torque. Indeed, the graphical results show, for all the different conditions considered, that the required attitude is always reached, meaning that the aim of this work was achieved.

In the present contribution, the attenuation function S(t) for an ensemble of spins in a magnetic-field gradient is calculated through an accumulation of the phase shifts in the rotating frame resulting from the changes of the particle displacements. The found S(t) is applicable for any kind of the stochastic motion of spins, including their non-Markovian dynamics with memory. Depending on the considered system, both the classical expressions valid for normal diffusion at long times and new formulae for the short-time Brownian motion can be obtained. Our method is also applicable to the NMR pulse sequences based on the refocusing principle. This is demonstrated by describing the spin echo experiment developed by Hahn.

In this work we empirically verify the generic breaking of the Central Limit Theorem on the financial and commodity markets. We analysed the distributions of log-returns for typical indices and price of gold, for increasing time horizons. We considered Random Coarse Graining Transformation of the Continuous-Time Random Walk model, which can represent the non-Gaussian price dynamics of underlying assets and the corresponding derivatives, e.g., various options or future contracts. We confirmed that empirical data and predictions of the model quite well agree.

Opis:
We explore a new regime of hot carrier dynamics, in which electrons in a superlattice miniband exhibit a unique type of stochastic motion when a magnetic field is tilted at an angle θ to the superlattice axis. Remarkably, the dynamics of a miniband electron in a tilted magnetic field reduce to a one-dimensional simple harmonic oscillator, of angular frequency ω$\text{}_{C}$ cos θ, where ω$\text{}_{C}$ is the cyclotron frequency, driven by a time-dependent plane wave whose angular frequency equals the Bloch frequency ω$\text{}_{B}$. At bias voltages for which ω$\text{}_{B}$=nω$\text{}_{C}$ cos θ, where n is an integer, the electron orbits change from localised Bloch-like trajectories to unbounded stochastic orbits, which diffuse rapidly through intricate web patterns in phase space. To quantify how these webs affect electron transport, we make drift-diffusion calculations of the current-voltage curves including the effects of space-charge build up. When the magnetic field is tilted, our simulations reveal a large resonant peak, which originates from stochastic delocalisation of the electron orbits. We show that the corresponding quantised eigenstates change discontinuously from a highly localised character when the system is off resonance to a fully delocalised form when the resonance condition is satisfied.

The non-linear stochastic dynamic behaviour of a high-rise vertical transportation system modelled as a concentrated mass and a cable with finite bending stiffness is considered. The slow time scale is defined and lateral cable displacements coupled with transverse motions are expanded in terms of approximating functions. The excitation of the high-rise building is assumed in the form of a narrow-band mean-square process equivalent to the harmonic process. The equivalent linearization technique is used to replace the original non-linear system with a linear approximation whose coefficients are determined from minimization of the mean-square equation difference between both systems.

We studied the relative performance of stochastic heuristics in order to establish the relations between the fundamental elements of their mechanisms. The insights on their dynamics, abstracted from the implementation details, may contribute to the development of an efficient framework for design of new probabilistic methods. For that, we applied four general optimization heuristics with varying number of hyperparameters to traveling salesman problem. A problem-specific greedy approach (Nearest Neighbor) served as a reference for the results of: Monte Carlo, Simulated Annealing, Genetic Algorithm, and Particle Swarm Optimization. The more robust heuristics – with higher configuration potential, i.e. with more hyperparameters – outperformed the smart ones, being surpassed only by the method specifically designed for the task.

In addition it is also shown that only one definition satisfies all given postulates. We compare this definition with price indexes.
W artykule zaprezentowano dwie definicje indeksu przeciętnej dynamiki cen produktów w modelu stochastycznym z czasem dyskretnym.

Opis:
In this study, a relatively simple method of discrete structural optimization with dynamic loads is presented. It is based on a tree graph, representing discrete values of the structural weight. In practical design, the number of such values may be very large. This is because they are equal to the combination numbers, arising from numbers of structural members and prefabricated elements. The starting point of the method is the weight obtained from continuous optimization, which is assumed to be the lower bound of all possible discrete weights. Applying the graph, it is possible to find a set of weights close to the continuous solution. The smallest of these values, fulfilling constraints, is assumed to be the discrete minimum weight solution. Constraints can be imposed on stresses, displacements and accelerations. The short outline of the method is presented in Sec. 2. The idea of discrete structural optimization by means of graphs. The knowledge needed to apply the method is limited to the FEM and graph representation. The paper is illustrated with two examples. The first one deals with a transmission tower subjected to stochastic wind loading. The second one with a composite floor subjected to deterministic dynamic forces, coming from the synchronized crowd activities, like dance or aerobic.

In the paper, the deterministic and stochastic approach to the problem of vibrations of a beam with periodically varying geometry under moving load is presented. A new averaged model for the dynamics of the periodic-like beam with a variable cross-section, Mazur-Śniady (2001), is applied. The approach to dynamics of the periodic-like beam assumed in the paper is based on concepts of the tolerance-averaged model by Woźniak (1999). The solution obtained for a single moving force is the basis of solution of stochastic vibrations caused by random train of moving forces.

A numerical formulation for stochastic sensitivity in dynamic analysis of structural systems is presented in the paper. The stochastic finite element method, basing on the perturbation methodology, is an advanced computer technique for solving engineering problems with randomness taken into account. It allows one to analyze a wide class of static and dynamic systems with geometrical and /or material random parameters. Besides the well-known direct differentiation setting, an adjoint terminal-value system is formulated in accordance with the prescribed fundamental initial-value system. Once the original initial-value equations (15) and (16) are solved for by a step-by-step forward integration scheme over time from 0 to t and the adjoint terminal-value equations (23) and (24) are integrated backward form t to 0, the sensitivity gradients (25) are summed up. Analysis of a symmetrical portal frame with two strut trusses is given. The dynamic sensitivity of the displacements at two representative points B and C with respect to the change of the cross-sectional areas of the truss and beam members is discussed. Two complete sets of stochastic solutions are obtained. One includes the expectations and cross-covariances for the nodal displacements, while the other describes the first two probabilistic moments of their sensitivity gradients.

Opis:
Research background: Studying the dynamic characteristics of unemployment rate is crucial for both economic theory and macroeconomic policies. Despite numerous research, the empirical evidence about stochastic behaviour of the unemployment rate remains disputable. It has been widely agreed that most economic variables, including unemployment rates, are characterized by both structural breaks and nonlinearities. However, a little work is done to examine both features simultaneously. Purpose of the article: In this paper, we analyse the stationarity properties of unemployment rates of Euro area member countries. Also, we aim to test stochastic convergence of unemployment rates among member countries. Our empirical procedures explicitly allow for simultaneous gradual breaks and nonlinearities in the series. Methods: This paper develops a new unit root test procedure for panel data, allowing for both gradual structural breaks and asymmetric adjustment towards equilibrium. We carry out Monte Carlo simulations to examine small sample performance of the proposed test procedure and compare it to the existing test procedures. We apply the newly proposed test to examine the stochastic properties of the unemployment rates of Euro-member countries as well as relative unemployment rates vis-à-vis the Eurozone unemployment rate. Findings & value added: We find that the newly developed test procedure outperforms existing tests in highly nonlinear settings. Also, these tests reject the null hypothesis of unit root in more cases when compared to the existing tests. We find stationarity in the series only after allowing for structural breaks in the data generating process. Allowing for nonlinear and asymmetric adjustment in addition to gradual breaks provides evidence of stationarity in more cases. Furthermore, our results suggest that relative unemployment rate series are stationary, providing evidence in favour of stochastic convergence in unemployment rates. Overall, our results imply a limited room for coordinated economic policy to fight unemployment in the Eurozone.

In nanomagnetism, the studies of magnetic nanoparticle systems are of particular interest from both experimental and theoretical points of view. Experimentally, the measurements made on such a system are hard to interpret. It is very difficult to distinguish the effect of the magnetic dipole interactions from the effects of size distribution or effective magnetic anisotropy constants. In this respect, the simulation models can help. This paper presents a study comparing the two conventional approaches, using simulation models for the magnetic relaxation dynamics of nanoparticle systems, i.e. a phenomenological Ising-type approach, on two levels, and a stochastic approach. The paper also shows a way of using these approaches in creating a model to simulate the Néel magnetic relaxation time for aligned magnetic nanoparticle systems.

The article presents results of simulation of 6-DOF motion for a missile subjected to atmospheric turbulences. Therefore, an applied mathematical model of motion includes description of stochastic turbulences influencing on missile flight. Both models of the motion as well as of turbulences are shortly presented. Model validity was assessed by comparing the calculation results with the data recorded during shooting on the range. Result of series of simulations allows determining the missile sensitivity to this case of disturbances. Exemplary results of simulations are shown. The turbulence model assumes that the wind is dependent on time and space. This assumption is based on the Taylor's "frozen turbulence" hypothesis. The advection velocity of the turbulence is much greater than the velocity scale of the turbulence itself. The velocity has two component. In the article, the first component is omitted and the second is treated as the stochastic process representing atmospheric turbulence. To describe this turbulence Shinozuka's method was applied. Mathematical description of the missile motion, equations of translatory motion, External forces end moments, model of the turbulence are presented in the article.

Opis:
The paper addresses non-linear vibrations of offshore jack-up drilling platforms loaded by sea waves and wind in their stationary condition using the perturbation method. Non-linearity of dynamic equations of motion for fixed offshore platforms yields from two factors. The first is load excitation generating non-linear velocity coupling in a dynamic system. This coupling is inherent in the modified Morison equation, involving the excitation function in the form of the sum of the inertial and velocity forces of sea waves, taking into account relative wave–structure kinematics. Moreover, the wind acting on the exciting side causes similar effects. The second source is the subsoil‒structure interaction problem, modelled by a system of springs and dashpots that yields stochastic non-linearity of the dynamic system. The matrix equations of structural motion in FEM terms are set up. The perturbation method is adopted to determine the mechanical response of the system, making it possible to determine response spectra of the first and the second approximations for displacements and internal forces of the platform. The paper is the continuation of research detailed in the paper [1]. It is assumed, that the fluctuation parts of the dynamic loading forces are in line with the direction of sea wave propagation. Sea current and lift forces effects are neglected in this study. A numerical example refers to structural data of the Baltic drilling platform in the stationary configuration, i.e. when three legs support the deck above the seawater level.

Opis:
Purpose: Elaborate and substantiate stochastic models of occupational risk evaluation for application in the occupation health and safety. Design/methodology/approach: Analysis of scientific and technical literature and regulatory framework for risk evaluation in the occupation health and safety; methods of probability theory, theory of Markov processes; methods of restoration theory. Findings: A system of differential equations and limit conditions for finding the limit distribution of probabilities of a random process of occupational dangers is derived. Based on the results of solving the limit value task, expressions to determine a number of key indicators by which the level of occupational risk can be evaluated are obtained. Research limitations/implications: The proposed approach aims to evaluation the risk associated with the impact on the employee of harmful factors, but can also be used to evaluate the injury risk. But in this case the received limit value task will be much more difficult. Practical implications: The application of the proposed approach allows to increase the level of occupational safety by taking into account the stochastic characteristics of the negative factors impact on the employee during occupational risks evaluating, as well as the possibility of setting such values of controllable parameters that will allow with a certain probability to ensure not to exceed the level of impact accumulation in the employee of the consequences of these factors. Originality/value: Stochastic models of occupational risk evaluation based on the application of Markov drift processes for the modeling the hybrid nature of the negative factors impact on the employee, which occurs within the real systems "man - technical system - production environment" were elaborated and substantiated for the first time.

Opis:
The study describes allometric relationships between stand density and tree dimensions in birch stands on post−agricultural lands. The research material consisted of measurements carried out on 120 sample plots located in birch stands on post−agricultural lands of Central Poland. The investigated relationship was analyzed using ordinary least squares (OLS), dynamical formulation of allometric function (DFA), stochastic frontier production function (SFF) as well as quantile regression (QR) methods. Similar effects of modeling maximum density were obtained as a result of applying FFP and QR methods with 0.9 quantile. SFF was found to be the most adequate method for modeling maximum density.
