Opis:
The Tunka rift consists of a system of baikal type basins and low-mountain intcrbasin ridges separating them. In the north it is surrounded by the alpine Tunka ridge and the low Olkha upland, and in the soulh by the Siberian mountains Western Khamar-Daban with volcanic plateau. This rift may be as a morphotypc of dry rift basin of the Baikal type (rift valley) because it has a full set of their typical structural elements and their unified forms. Relief of the rift and its mountain surroundings are composed of five belts: the belt of plains and the belt of tilted piedrnonts, the apical belt, the belt of slopes, and the belt of valley boltoms in its mountain frame. Instead of them there is a large group of interzonal land forms.

Opis:
This study was carried out to investigate litter traits performance of ASF-recovered pigs at Teaching and Research Farm of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. Data were collected on 52 progenies farrowed by eight (8) sows and two (2) boars, comprising of four (4) Large White sows, two (2) Large Black sows, two (2) Duroc sows, one (1) Large White boar and one (1) NigerHyb boar. These are survivals from ASF outbreak in 2005. Data were collected on the litter traits and subjected to General Linear Model (GLM) procedure using SAS, (1999) statistical package. Results obtained revealed that the litter traits estimates for the cross among the Large White were 6.52±0.26 (litter size at birth), 5.72±0.23 (litter size at weaning), 6.92±0.34 kg (litter weight at birth), 1.05±0.01 kg (average pig weight at birth), 7.08±0.35 (average pig weight at weaning), 12% (pre-weaning mortality) and sex ratio at birth (52%) and at weaning (54%). In the crosses between Duroc and NigerHyb, and Large Black and NigerHyb, effect of dam genotype was significant (P<0.01) on litter weight at birth and weaning, litter size at weaning and average pig weight at birth, higher values were observed in the cross between Large Black and NigerHyb, but not significant on litter size at birth and average pig weight at weaning. The litter traits estimates observed in this study are similar to those reported before the outbreak of ASF in 1997 in Nigeria.

Opis:
The paper examined water resources insecurity arising from climatic change and variability, coupled with increased population and economic development in in Yewa basin, with a view to understanding the relationship between climatic variables and hydrological parameters operating within the basin. Thus, the study entails assessment of the effects of climate change and variability on water resources and its implication on both the physical environment and the hydrological regime, using the water evaluation and planning (WEAP) system model. Data employed included water supply and demand for Domestic, Commercial, Industrial and Agriculture, as well as climatic data (rainfall and Temperature) and runoff. As revealed by the Scenario fabrication, 45.24% of the annual water requirement within Yewa Basin is not met, with water potentials of Annual mean discharge of 3682.46 m3/s (±830.1) and Annual mean rainfall of 1106.26m (±475.25), and with coefficients of variation of 40.88 and 73.73, respectively. This deficit calls for an appropriate water resources management mechanism to be put into use in Yewa Basin.

Opis:
Objectives: A relationship between low back pain (LBP) and poor postures has been previously established with a high prevalence observed in many occupations. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of LBP, associated risk factors and impacts on farmers in South-West Nigeria. Materials and Methods: Six hundred and four farmers completed a 36-item closed-ended questionnaire which was translated to Yoruba language with content validity and back translation done afterwards. The questionnaire sought information on demographic data, 12-month prevalence, severity, history, causes and management of LBP, and its impacts on farm activities and the activities of daily living. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17. Data was summarized using descriptive statistics of mean, range, frequency, standard deviation, percentage. Chi² and Mann-Whitney-U test were used to find association between variables. The level of significance was set at α = 0.05. Results: The 12-month prevalence of LBP among the respondents was 74.4%. Low back pain was described as moderate in 53.4%. Prolonged bending (51.3%) was the most related risk factor. A considerable proportion (65.9%) of the respondents were unable to continue some of the previously enjoyed activities. Males had significantly higher (p < 0.05) prevalence, recurrence and duration of LBP than the females. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of LBP among farmers in South-West Nigeria. Age, sex and years of involvement in farming have a significant influence on the prevalence of LBP.

Opis:
The Upper Cretaceous sequence in the area located between Uniejów, Kłodawa and Ozorków, Central Poland, is dominated by carbonate and carbonate-siliceous deposits. They are represented by limestones, marly limestones, marls and opokas with local gaize intercalations in the uppermost part of the sequence. There is also a complex of Santonian-Campanian clastics immediately adjoining the present-day Mid-Polish Swell near the Kłodawa Salt Diapir. The clastics may represent gravity flow deposits associated with a strong uplift of the Izbica -Kłodawa-Łęczyca Zone due to salt movements during inversion of this structure related to the incipient phase of the Late Cretaceous inversion of the whole Mid-Polish Swell. These processes caused increasing morphological gradients when passing south-westwards to the neighbouring subsiding trough. Detailed sedimentological studies of the clastic series cannot be made due to insufficient material and poor core condition. Investigations of the regional facies distribution and sedimentation, performed both along the areas adjoining the present-day Mid-Polish Swell and in local inversion structures, may help in the elucidation of timing of the incipient tectonic inversion phase of the Mid-Polish Trough which was ultimately transformed into the Mid-Polish Swell during the Early Tertiary.

Opis:
The main goal of this paper was to assess the intensity of heat stress in Lower Silesia, Poland, during selected weather events characterized by high air temperatures. The complex impact of weather on the thermal load of the human organism is presented using the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). The analysis was carried out for the 2015 and 2018 summer seasons and compared with the multiannual period of 1971–2018. It was based on meteorological data from the IMGW-PIB stations of Wrocław, Jelenia Góra and Śnieżka. In order to examine how heat conditions affect UTCI in different geographical regions, stations located at different altitudes and representing the lowlands, the lower mountain zone and the summit zone of the Sudetes Mountains were considered. The research showed that during the most extreme thermal events, UTCI values in the lowlands and the lower mountain zones can be among the highest heat stress classes. In the summit zone, the maximum UTCI values are usually classed as ‘no thermal stress’.

Opis:
Conducting integrated measures within the framework of sustainable development requires an objective identification of the needs for their implementation based on the results of multifaceted analyses of many complex, interrelated factors reflecting the state of the natural environment and the economic and demographic situation. The increasing functionality of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), has made GIS databases a tool supporting the implementation of sustainable development activities. The aim of the study was to recognise the spatial variability of the level of environmental governance in the south-west region of Poland. Methods of research on multidimensional data mining techniques and geo-spatial analyses were applied, resulting in a theoretical model describing the regularities in the relationships between the analysed indicators of environmental governance. The level of environmental governance was most strongly determined by indicators concerning climate change and biodiversity.

Opis:
Calcareous soils are widely spread in arid and semiarid regions. Carbonates can affect soil quality by influencing soil pH, structure and soil available water. There are lots of calcareous soils in Iran and especially Khuzestan province, so, providing sustainable agriculture evaluating the soil quality is essential. This study was done to evaluate the soil physical quality in dominant calcareous soil series in Khuzestan province, Iran. Soil physical quality indicators, including Dexter's S index, air capacity, soil available water capacity, relative water capacity and macroporosity were calculated. The results showed that, based on Dexter's S index, only one calcareous soil series had a poor physical quality (S < 0.035). However, the simultaneous evaluation of different soil quality indicators showed that 56 % and 22 % of studied calcareous soil series had limited aeration and soil available water, respectively. While the weakest soil physical quality was related to the southeastern soil of Ahvaz, with both aeration and soil available water limitations. The results showed that the proper assessment of soil physical quality in calcareous soils requires considering more physical indicators than just Dexter's S index related to soil aeration condition including air capacity and macroporosity.
