The paper concentrates on the issues of applying smart technologies in the manufacturing processes. The author includes in it brief descriptions of the smart technologies that contributed to the emergence of Industry 4.0 concept. Additionally, based on reports and surveys conducted on a global scale re-garding the application of intelligent technologies, the author analyses the current state of implementing these technologies in manufacturing processes and provides forecasts regarding the adoption of the solutions based on Artificial Intelligence in global enterprises in the near future.

Logistics centres are currently performing a key function in the development of countries through their ability to regulate goods, markets, and transport. This is shown by the infrastructure, cost, goods flow, and quality of logistical services provided by these centres. Nevertheless, in developing nations or regions with antiquated logistics infrastructure, conventional logistics centres seem to struggle to manage the volume of commodities passing through them, resulting in persistent congestion and an unsteady flow of goods inside these facilities. This issue poses a challenge to the progress of any nation. The emergence of new technology offers a potential avenue to solve the problems inherent in traditional logistics centres. Most prominently, four technologies (the Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, Big Data and Cloud computing) are widely applied in traditional logistics centres. This work has conducted a thorough analysis and evaluation of these new technologies in relation to their respective functions and roles inside a logistics centre. Furthermore, this work proposes difficulties in applying new technologies to logistics centres related to issues such as science, energy, cost, or staff qualifications. Finally, future development directions, related to expanding policies in technological applications, or combining each country’s policies for the logistics industry, are carefully discussed.

Inteligentne miasta są uważane za istotną koncepcję, stanowiącą pomost pomiędzy technologią a społeczeństwem. Przejmuje ona rezerwy zarządzania w społeczeństwie ludzkim, które mogą być wykorzystane przez różne narzędzia technologiczne, mogące uczyć się wzorców zachowań i odpowiednio dostosowywać różne aspekty życia. Jednak ta koncepcja społeczna napędzana technologią nie bierze pod uwagę jednego z najważniejszych elementów równania ulepszonego zarządzania: człowieka, ludzkiej natury i ludzkiego zachowania. W bardzo małym stopniu lub wcale nie uwzględnia ona również demokratycznych ograniczeń, które mieszczą się w kontekście praw obywatelskich i politycznych. Nie interesuje się też długoterminowymi skutkami wykorzystania inteligentnych technologii dla rozwoju ludzkich umiejętności. W ten sposób artykuł przybiera formę krytyki i dyskusji nad przeoczonymi elementami, które z jednej strony obniżają efektywność (inteligentnych) technologii, a z drugiej jednocześnie redukują potencjał twórczy ludzkiej codzienności. Mimo że idea inteligentnych społeczeństw wydaje się być korzystna, to generalnie, zwłaszcza w skali makro, uważa się, że ogranicza ona potencjał twórczy jednostek nawet do poziomu ich degradacji psychicznej.
Smart cities are considered to be a relevant concept that bridges the relation between technology and society. It assumes the management reserves in human society that can be exploited by different technological tools, that would be able to learn behavior patterns and adjust different aspects of life accordingly. However, this technologically driven social concept did not take into consideration one of the most important elements of the improved management equation; human, human nature and human behaviour. As well it has little or no regard for the democratic restrictions that are packed in the context of civil and political rights. And it has no interest in the long term effect of the use of smart technology for the development of human skills. In this manner, the article is conceptualized as a critique and discussion of overlooked elements that are reducing the effectiveness of the (smart) technologies on one hand, and on the other hand, they are simultaneously reducing the creative potential of human daily life. Despite the idea of smart societies seems to be beneficial, in general, especially on a macro level, it is considered to be limiting the creative potential of individuals even to the level of their mental deterioration.

The article is devoted to the consideration of the problem of increasing the professional skills of the workers of the supporting schools in the conditions of the modernization of education, both during the course retraining and in the intercourse activities. The study of innovative forms and methods of professional development of teachers makes it possible to assess their effectiveness, identify strengths and weaknesses, simulate the system of postgraduate education in accordance with the current needs of the school and help motivate pedagogical workers to achieve success in their professional activities.

The trend of the sharing economy brings together an increasing number of supporters as well as interest over the past several years. This phenomenon and the pace at which it is growing and gaining popularity are not without impact on previously functioning successfully business models. The article presents the key principles of the sharing economy and presents the possibilities of using them according with the appropriate tools in the area of transporting goods in the city. Collaborative economy creates New opportunities for more efficient management of this sphere of the city’s activity.

The purpose of this article is to present the state of information technology in urban development. This is the result of a study of cities and city offices on the relationship between information technology and the state of Smart City development. At the beginning of this article the state of cities on the way to Smart Cities was presented. Then, the process of transforming cities into Smart Cities was discussed and the state of Smart Cities technology was described. Because the complexity of technology depends on the maturity of city offices, the relationship between technologies and maturity has been mentioned. Then, services were introduced as a way to decompose the technology. Based on the technologies, services and urban maturity presented, a key question for the development of Smart Cities was asked: how to assess technologies to be useful for the development of Smart Cities?
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest prezentacja stanu technologii informatycznych w rozwoju miast. Jest to wynik badań miast i urzędów miast nad relacjami między technologiami informatycznymi a stanem rozwoju Smart City. Na początku tego artykułu przedstawiono stan miast w drodze do Smart Cities. Następnie omówiono proces przekształcania miast w Smart Cities oraz opisano stan technologii Smart Cities. Ponieważ złożoność technologii zależy od dojrzałości urzędów miast, wspomniano o relacjach między technologiami a dojrzałością. Następnie wprowadzono usługi jako sposób dekompozycji technologii. W oparciu o zaprezentowane technologie, usługi i dojrzałość miast postawiono kluczowe pytanie dla rozwoju Smart Cities pytanie: jak ocenić technologie aby były one przydatne dla rozwoju Smart Cities?

Problematyka prowadzonych w niniejszym artykule rozważań skupia się wokół inteligentnych specjalizacji i ich roli w realizacji planów rozwojowych, opartych na zasadach inteligentnego, zrównoważonego i włączającego społecznie wzrostu, analizowanych w kontekście desing user experience. W artykule założono, że UX (user experience), jako inteligentna technologia kreacyjna, ma szansę być zarówno źródłem innowacji, jak i efektywnym narzędziem upowszechniania innowacji. W artykule wykorzystano analizę teoretyczną, dzięki której ustalono instrumenty przydatne w projektowaniu prodyfuzyjnego środowiska społecznego. Poczynione ustalenia teoretyczne należy traktować jako wskazania do działań praktycznych.
The main subject of this considerations focus on the smart specialization and their role in implementation of development plans based on the principles of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, analyzed in the context of design user experience. This article assumes that the UX as the smart creative technology is likely to be both, a source of innovation, and an effective tool for promoting innovation. Used theoretical analysis, which has established instruments useful in the design of pro-diffusion social environment. Theoretical assumptions should be treated as indications of practical actions.

Opis:
Aircraft maintenance involves usage and/or damage detection of structures. Usage is asso-ci-ated with measuring load sequences and a typical application example is Operational Loads Monitoring (OLM) whereby either flight parameters or direct structural strain measurements in aircraft are used to quantify the fatigue life of the structure. Current damage monitoring involves traditional non-destructive techniques such as Eddy Current or Ultrasonics. The paper gives a brief overview of currently used and emerging technologies in maintenance of aerospace structures. Re-cent developments in this area, related to damage detection techniques based on integrated smart sensor technologies, are also discussed. These techniques are associated with a new design phi-losophy leading to multifunctional and adaptable structures.
Eksploatacja samolotów związana jest z monitorowaniem stanu zużycia oraz detekcją uszko-dzeń konstrukcji. Monitorowanie stanu zużycia samolotu sprowadza się do analizy obciążeń kon-strukcji oraz do szacowania i prognozy wytrzymałości zmęczeniowej. Metoda pośrednia oparta jest na parametrach lotu, podczas gdy metoda bezpośrednia wykorzystuje pomiary odkształceń konstrukcji. Tradycyjne metody detekcji uszkodzeń konstrukcji lotniczych wykorzystują badania nieniszczące oparte na indukcji magnetycznej oraz ultradźwiękach. Praca przedstawia w skrócie tradycyjne oraz nowe metody detekcji uszkodzeń wykorzystywane w eksploatacji samolotów. Nowe metody, oparte na inteligentnych czujnikach pomiarowych zintegrowanych z samolotem, związane są z nową koncepcją projektowania wielofunkcyjnych i adaptacyjnych konstrukcji.

The purpose of this paper is to indicate the possibility of applying cognitive technologies in smart city services and analyze their impact on strategic management in the city. The subject of this study is the use of cognitive technologies in big data as one of the tools of smart city. The study also identifies the risks that may occur when using modern technologies at the local level. At the same time, it refers to features that can provide a form of safeguards for an individual's rights and freedoms. This article also covers legal issues that affect the use of cognitive technologies in local government units. This paper indicates that the challenge that local governments should now meet is to build a Smart Sustainable City. Implementation of modern solutions should strive to improve the lives of all residents and thus prevent the exclusion of social groups or individuals.

The development of information technologies offers new possibilities of use of information collected in public registers, such as land registers and cadastres, which play a significant role in establishing the infrastructure for spatial information. Efficient use of spatial information systems with the purpose of a sustainable land management shall be based on en suring the interconnection of different information resources, data exchange, as well as a broad access to data. The role of land registration systems in the context of technological advancement was the subject of the Common Vision Conference 2016. Migration to a Smart World, held on 5–7 June 2016 in Amsterdam. The conference was organized by Europe’s five leading mapping, cadastre and land registry associations, cooperating within a “Common Vision” agreement: EuroGeographics, Permanent Committee on Cadastre, European Land Registries Association, European Land Information Service and Council of European Geodetic Surveyors. The discussion during the conference focused on topics regarding the idea of smart cities, marine cadastre, interoperability of spatial data, as well as the impact of land registers and cadastres on creating the infrastructure for spatial information and developing e-government, at both national and European levels. The paper aims to present an overview of issues covered by the conference and also to highlight some important problems arising from implementing advanced technology solutions in the field of land registration.

Consumer and system-wide gains remain limited by an outmoded policy regime. With scientific innovation running far ahead of public policy, physicians, researchers and patients are not receiving full advantage of the latest developments. European health systems require a seamless and rapid flow of digital information, including genomic, clinical outcome, and claims data. Research derived from clinical care must feed back into assessment, in order to advance care quality for consumers. National health systems are heterogeneous; the solutions and required fundamental approaches differ between the European member states and are not entirely portable and scalable. To date, this applies not only to general systemic aspects but particularly to cross-border reimbursement issues and the exchange of treatment and patient data. To answer those needs, an international consortium was established to implement the project “Interregional coordination for a fast and deep uptake of personalised health”: Regions4PerMed. A cycle of international events, such as conferences, in situ visits and workshops, has been planned. Interdisciplinary groups of experts will exchange thoughts and experiences to design solutions that could be implemented in the various healthcare systems. Regions4PerMed aims to coordinate regional policies and innovation programmes in personalised medicine and personalised health to accelerate the deployment of personalised health for patients. Key Action 2 is dedicated to health technologies and smart and integrated care.

Tourism is one of the most important factors in economic growth in Vietnam. However, it requires the balance between economics, social-cultures, and ecology because of their big impacts. In this paper, we propose a platform with mobile and web-based applications that can support smart and sustainable tourism in Vietnam for both local governments and visitors. The mobile application allows visitors to access location-based services to explore the visiting area, such as finding nearby natural attractions, as well as information to minimize the negative effects of tourism on the environment and the local community. It also enables users to report negative impacts to local government. The web application allows local authorities to monitor the status and trends of the habitant, natural environment, tourism infrastructure and activities in the area. The system uses geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing techniques to collect, analye and visualize various indicators of sustainability. The platform is developed with open-source technologies such as NodeJS, PostgreSQL, and Flutter. The paper demonstrates the feasibility and usefulness of the proposed platform through case studies in Hoa Binh and BacKan, two provinces have many attractive natural sites.

Celem opracowania było określenie znaczenia nowoczesnych technologii stosowanych w wybranych formach działalności rolniczej polskiej wsi. Ukazano przykłady gospodarstw prowadzących działalność gospodarczą w oparciu o warzywnictwo i sadownictwo. Podstawą analizy były informacje uzyskane w 2019 r. podczas bezpośrednich wywiadów terenowych, uzupełnione danymi statystycznymi na temat krajowych upraw i zbiorów. Stosowanie inteligentnych rozwiązań technologicznych w działalności rolniczej ma duże znaczenie, ponieważ podnosi jakość produkcji rolnej. Właściwie dobrane, zrównoważone technologie rolne są jednym z komponentów koncepcji inteligentnej wsi. Jednak takie usprawnienie rolnictwa bez aktywnego włączenia czynnika ludzkiego i stabilnego systemu gospodarczego nie jest efektywne.
The aim of the study was to determine the importance of innovative technologies used in selected forms of agricultural activity in the Polish countryside. For that purpose, examples of farms conducting economic activity based on vegetable and fruit farming were presented. The analysis was based on the information obtained in 2019 during direct field interviews, supported with statistical data on national crops and harvests. Application of smart technologies in agricultural activities is very important as it improves the quality of agricultural production. Properly selected, sustainable agricultural technologies are one of the components of the smart village concept. However, improving agriculture without active participation of human factor and stable economic system is not effective.

The paper discusses the methods and rationale for selecting advanced manufacturing technologies as a smart specialisation priority in Poland at a national level. The studies rely on the desk research of relevant national strategic documents. This article might contribute to a discussion if there is a point in domestic AMTs technologies creation and development or it should be just an agreed approach considering these technologies adoption. The chapter underlines the importance of KETs for the EU and provides the related policy context. The author investigates the smart specialisation process that was imposed by EU to define development domains of Members States at national or regional level with focus on diagnosis (with some attention on foresight) and entrepreneurial discovery process. In the author's opinion, the outcome of the national S3 process maintains the country aspiration regarding AMTs creation and development for its future economic development.
Artykuł analizuje metody i przesłanki stojące za wyborem zaawansowanych technologii produkcyjnych jako inteligentnej specjalizacji w Polsce na poziomie krajowym. Analiza opiera się na przeglądzie strategicznych dokumentów polityki. Studia te mogą kontrybuować do dyskusji czy jest zasadne tworzenie i rozwój tego typu technologii, czy też powinno się raczej skoncentrować na ich absorpcji. Artykuł podkreśla znaczenie Kluczowych Technologii Wspomagających dla UE i przybliża ich kontekst. Autor prześwietla proces wyłaniania inteligentnych specjalizacji, który został nałożony przez UE na Państwa Członkowskie w celu wyłonienia priorytetów na poziomie krajowym lub regionalnym. Główny nacisk został położony na diagnozę (szczególnie na foresight) oraz proces przedsiębiorczych odkryć. Według opinii autora rezultat procesu na poziomie krajowym potwierdza co najmniej aspiracje kraju do rozwoju tego typu technologii.

W artykule przedstawiono ideę inteligentnych sieci, które pomogą przedsiębiorstwom energetycznym w zwiększeniu niezawodności dostaw energii i wydajności operacyjnej, rozszerzeniu zakresu pomiarów i kontroli sieci energetycznych oraz w zarządzaniu nowymi technologiami nawet w najdalszych punktach sieci energetycznej.
The development of electricity networks depends mainly on new technologies. Smart Grid - an intelligent, multi-grid is a tool for the future efficient use of increasingly expensive energy resources. In general implementation of intelligent networks will benefit individual customers, the national economy and the environment. Europe is now seeking to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Smart Grid is a challenge which seeks to this ambitious goal. The article presents the ideas of intelligent networks that will help energy companies to increase the reliability of energy supply and operational efficiency, expanding the scope of measurement and control of power systems and management of new technologies, even in the farthest points of the grid.

From among the many concepts and visions of cities, the concept of a smart city is becoming more and more popular. Smart city is a city that uses information and communication technologies to increase the interactivity and efficiency of urban infrastructure, as well as to improve the quality of life of residents.Currently, the city can be treated as “smart” when it invests in human and social capital and communication infrastructure to actively promote sustainable economic development and high quality of life, including smart management of natural resources, through civic participation. A smart city is a coherent system, which operates based on ICT information and telecommunication technologies, collective communication control systems, monitoring, automation, autonomous devices and computer programs. The article presents and systematises technological solutions that are starting to appear in cities around the world, areas in which smart city technologies can be applied and a review of the market development and technology of smart cities and major producers of technological solutions for this type of cities will be made.
Wśród wielu koncepcji i wizji miast coraz większą popularność zdobywa koncepcja miastainteligentnego. Inteligentne miasto (ang. smart city) to miasto, które wykorzystuje technologie informacyjno‑komunikacyjne w celu zwiększenia interaktywności i wydajności infrastruktury miejskiej, a także do podniesienia jakości życia mieszkańców. Obecnie miasto może być traktowane jako „inteligentne”, gdy podejmuje inwestycje w kapitał ludzki i społeczny oraz w infrastrukturę komunikacyjną w celu aktywnego promowania zrównoważonego rozwoju gospodarczego i wysokiej jakości życia, w tym mądrego gospodarowania zasobami naturalnymi, przez partycypację obywatelską. Miasto inteligentne to spójny system, który funkcjonuje, wykorzystując technologie informacyjne i telekomunikacyjne ICT, podsystemy sterowania komunikacją zbiorową, monitoring, automatyzację, autonomiczne urządzenia oraz programy komputerowe. W artykule zaprezentowane i usystematyzowane zostaną rozwiązania technologiczne, które zaczynają się pojawiać w miastach na świecie, wskazane zostaną obszary w miastach, w których technologie smart city znajdują zastosowanie. W treści artykułu zawarty zostanie wstępny przegląd rozwoju rynku i technologii smart cities oraz głównych producentów rozwiązań technologicznych dla tego typu miast.

Technological progress is accelerating. The changes are particularly visible in the area of information and communication technologies. They change the environment, affect human life, and their application is constantly expanding. The usability criterion is no less important than modernity. The article analyzes phenomena related to modern technologies, sustainable development, smart city and mobility, and the city of Songdo. Such a selection of topics made it possible to present the importance of modern technologies in the development of a city.

The process of ageing of modern societies is the source of substantial challenges for social and health care systems. The growing number of elderly persons may be perceived both in terms of the burden but also as an opportunity. On one hand, elderly population requires additional forms of care and support. On the other hand, older persons shape a market for various types of services and products supporting them in independent and secure life. Ageing usually results in progressing limitations of the sensory and cognitive functions as well as mobility. Thus, elderly population is a target audience for products belonging to the domain of assistive technologies. This term origins from first regulations accepted in USA in 60. in XX century in relation to elderly persons. Nowadays, it is used as umbrella term for all tools and systems applied for maintaining or increasing functional capacities of the person with various types of disabilities. Assistive technologies cover whole spectrum of products differing both in term of technical sophistication and complexity. There are many classes of assistive technologies which could be used by elderly persons depending on functional limitations occurring in a specific person. The solutions available currently demonstrates high technical advancement and trend for coverage of diversified aspects of every day living. The progress in the domain of supportive tools for elderly persons resulted in the concept of ambient assisted living. The concept is based on the desire of developing friendly and attentive environment for elderly persons assuring them independent and comfortable living. Ambient assisted living integrates the use of advanced sensory and communication technologies integrated as „smart home” and telemonitoring systems used not only in medical but also social context. The expectation of establishment of supporting environment of living for elderly persons is also inherently linked to growth of the Information Society and ongoing embedment of information and communication technologies in all aspects of life.

Creating a smart city is a long-term process related to planning a new urban structure, whereas knowledge of the history of the city’s and its area’s development is not without significance. The presented article shows how environmental factors that may have their sources in the past may impact the contemporary creation of a smart city. When planning the development of a smart city, it is impossible not to take into account the history of the city’s development in the past and the environment in which it was created. Changes in Kraków’s environment (the terrain, land forms, and water network) that have occurred over many years have undoubtedly a significant impact on the formation of a specific city profile – not only in terms of geography and climate (humidity, poor ventilation) but also in social, communication and cultural terms. These factors mean that the creation of smart-city in the case of Kraków will have to be slightly different than in the case of other cities with an environment that has been more stable over time. Apart from the lack of financial resources, the development of a smart city in Kraków is hampered by the lack of implemented solutions that would involve the local community in the co-management of the city. In addition, the Open Data concept, which allows public data to be opened and made available to residents in various digital formats, encouraging the creation of new services based thereon, still remains an untapped resource. Some cities, such as Wrocław, Poznań or Łódź have tried to make available some of the city’s data, albeit to a very small extent. Another problem is the lack of spatial planning and urban chaos. Reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions is also a substantial challenge facing the local authorities. A majority of large Polish cities, especially in winter, exceed the permissible air pollution standards, which automatically excludes them from the group of smart cities.
Kreowanie miasta inteligentnego jest procesem długotrwałym, związanym z zaplanowaniem nowej struktury miejskiej, nie bez znaczenia pozostaje znajomość historii rozwoju miasta i jego terenu. Przedstawiony artykuł pokazuje jaki wpływ mogą odegrać czynniki środowiskowe, mające swoje źródło w przeszłości na obecne kreowanie miasta inteligentnego. Planując rozwój smart city, nie sposób nie mieć na uwadze historii rozwoju miasta w przeszłości oraz środowiska w którym ono powstało. Zmiany w środowisku Krakowa (rzeźby terenu i sieci wodnej) jakie nastąpiły w ciągu wielu lat niewątpliwie mają znaczący wpływ na ukształtowanie się określonego profilu miasta nie tylko pod względem geograficznym i klimatycznym (wilgoć, słabe przewietrzanie) ale także społecznym, komunikacyjnym i kulturowym. Czynniki te powodują iż tworzenie smart-city w przypadku Krakowa będzie musiało przebiegać nieco inaczej niż w przypadku innych miast, o bardziej stabilnym w czasie środowisku. Poza brakiem środków finansowych, na przeszkodzie rozwoju inteligentnego miasta w Krakowie stoi brak wdrożonych rozwiązań służących wykorzystaniu społeczności lokalnej do współrządzenia miastem. Ponadto koncepcja otwartych danych (Open Data), która pozwala na otwarcie danych publicznych i udostępnienie ich mieszkańcom w różnych formatach cyfrowych, zachęcając do tworzenia w oparciu o nie nowych usług, nadal jest niewykorzystywana. Niektóre miasta, takie, jak np. Wrocław, Poznań czy Łódź próbują udostępniać część danych miejskich, jednak w bardzo niewielkim zakresie. Kolejnym problemem jest brak planowania przestrzennego i chaos urbanistyczny. Dużym wyzwaniem dla władz lokalnych jest także ograniczenie zużycia energii oraz emisji dwutlenku węgla. Większość dużych polskich miast, zwłaszcza w okresie zimowym, przekracza dopuszczalne normy zanieczyszczenia powietrza, co automatycznie wyklucza je z grona miast inteligentnych.

Celem artykułu jest stworzenie modelu miasta inteligentnego (Smart City) oraz przedstawienie wpływu wykorzystania technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych w jego rozwoju. W pracy dokonano przeglądu wiedzy na temat miast inteligentnych oraz dotychczasowych propozycji modelu Smart City. W dalszej części artykułu przedstawiono autorską koncepcję miasta inteligentnego oraz wpływ wykorzystania innowacyjnych technologii na funkcjonowanie jednostki. Następnie omówiono metodę analizy, umożliwiającą porównanie poziomu rozwoju inteligencji jednostki na przestrzeni czasu oraz pomiędzy różnymi miastami.
The aim of this article is to create a smart city model and to present the role of the information and communication technologies in the city’s development. In order to introduce the reader to the subject, the paper reviews the literature about smart cities and presents the existing smart city model proposals. In the next part, the article presents the author’s model of smart city and the impact of the use of innovation technologies on the functioning of the urban unit. Then, the paper describes the method of analysis, which enables to compare the city’s development level over time, as well as to compare the development level of different cities.

Niniejszy artykuł to krótkie wprowadzenie do programu strategicznego „Zaawansowane technologie pozyskiwania energii”, w ramach którego realizowane jest Zadanie Badawcze nr 4 „Opracowanie zintegrowanych technologii wytwarzania paliw i energii z biomasy, odpadów rolniczych i innych”. Uzasadniono kontekst przystąpienia do zadania, główne cele, strukturę zarządzania oraz podmioty zaangażowane. Zaprezentowano również uzasadnienie włączenia koncepcji Smart Grid w zakres projektu.
The paper presents a brief introduction to strategic programme “Advanced Technologies of Energy Generation”, under which Research Task 4. “Development of Integrated technologies for Production of Fuels and Energy from Biomass, Agricultural Waste and Other Materials” is implemented. The context justifies joining the task, its main objectives, management structure, and entities involved. Also justified is the inclusion of Smart Grid concept to the project scope.

The paper presents a cyberspace model where different categories of IT services are offered and used largely. A general cybersecurity policy is considered and the corresponding cybersecurity strategies are shown. The role of such technologies as: Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and Big Data is analyzed in order to improve the cybersecurity of a cyberspace. A new kind of service oriented cyberspace is proposed and its main properties are emphasized. Two simple examples of such cyberspaces are given and briefly discussed.

The development of Smart City systems and infrastructure should provide an implementation of assumptions for harmonious and sustainable development of urban areas. Implementation of Smart City assumptions within the city structure is related to introduction and development of passive and inert infrastructure that constitutes elements of the city infrastructure, as well as particular form of development of areas and buildings. The following research work concerns an analysis of spatial and infrastructure-related solutions as well as environmental, social and ICT systems applied within the city. Source material analyses (urban, architectural and technological sources) provide the basis for conclusions and formulation of typology and implementation of criteria for smart urban, social and ecosystem-related infrastructure implemented in the Smart City model, with the use of innovations in the field of intelligent information and communication technologies (ICT) as well as network infrastructure. The conclusions derived from the following research work contribute to the discussion on ways to shape the structure of infrastructure and nodal points in the Smart City development model in relation to sustainable development issues.

When and why humanity faced the Energy Problem, it is a question. What was the problem? How are we trying to handle it since the beginning? Do we have enough resources of renewable energy? Which technologies are mature enough to contribute and take part in the solution? Are they available in the market with compatible prices? What is the role of storage for dealing with the intermittent nature of renewable energy resources? Why do we need to build, operate, integrate and manage energy efficiency, storage and renewable energy in harmony with nature by smart grids in sustainable cities of the future? Is transition to 100% Renewable Energy the solution? If so what else is required to reach this target? What are we going to do with the existing system? Which methodologies and techniques we need to use to realize this transition with minimum costs and externalities? How are we going to justify this transition? Is it only a technology problem? What parameters we need to consider when we are trying to live in harmony with nature? How are we going to readapt human beings to be satisfied with minimum ecological footprint societies? Can human beings build democratic societies where energy efficiency and 100% renewable energy is respected and beneficial for each individual of the communities? Transition to 100% renewables requires planning the future with the information of the future. For reaching this target we need to carry on a multidisciplinary approach to understand and take into consideration the basic constraints and requirements of the living space we are sharing all together in the atmosphere. The theoretical and methodological foundations of intellectual technologies monitoring that are based on intellectual property are considered in the article. We prove that the evaluation of intellectual technologies market opportunities by the enterprise, the state of their target market, market changes on it to determine the position of the enterprise relatively goods analogs and substitute goods and identification of possible prospects and areas of intellectual development can be done very effectively using the principles and methods of economic monitoring. Methodical provision of monitoring commercial potential of intellectual property using the function of tangential economic effect is elaborated.

Głównym celem artykułu stało się poznanie zakresu wykorzystania koncepcji smart city na użytek zarządzania w miastach w odniesieniu do realiów polskich. Zamiarem wykonawców projektu było kreatywne spojrzenie na mało dotychczas rozpoznany problem zarządzania w mieście zgodny z koncepcją smart city. Podkreślenia wymaga fakt, iż celem nie było udokumentowanie przykładów funkcjonowania miast inteligentnych, ale przede wszystkim próba zidentyfikowania działań władz lokalnych, które mogłyby zostać uznane za działania w ramach koncepcji smart city, mających na celu obniżenie kosztów funkcjonowania miasta, oszczędność zasobów, poprawę jakości życia, uczynienie miasta bardziej wygodnym dla mieszkańców, w szczególności poprzez nowoczesne rozwiązania technologiczne.  
The main aim of this paper was aimed at determining the degree to which the smart city concept is used for the purpose of managing cities in Poland. The research team intendezzzzd to approach this relatively new concept in a creative way. It needs to be emphasised that the research project did not aim at documenting examples and/or case studies of smart cities, but rather at identifying the actions of local authorities which could be considered consistent with the smart city concept and aiming at: reducing the costs of the city’s functioning, economising of resources, improving the quality of life and making the city more comfortable for its citizens in particular through applying modern technologies.

High voltage CMOS active devices inherently include a parasitic vertical PNP bipolar transistor. When activated it injects holes into the substrate causing a dangerous potential shift. In this work a spice-modeling approach based on transistor layout is presented to simulate substrate de-biasing in Smart Power ICs. The proposed model relies on a parasitic substrate network without the need of a parasitic BJT in HVCMOS compact models. The results are compared with TCAD simulations at different temperatures showing good agreement. Potential shift of the substrate is analysed for different geometrical configurations to estimate the effect of P+ grounding schemes and backside contact.

W artykule omówiono nowoczesne technologie materiałowe przeznaczone na elewacje budynków. Nacisk położono na aspekt estetyczny, użytkowy i energetyczny. W sposób ogólnikowy wyjaśniono zasady działania omawianych technologii oraz ich cechy mające wpływ na architekturę budynków. W rozdziale 2. omówiono technologię szklenia switchable, tj. szkło SPD, LCD, elektrochromowe i z technologią mikro żaluzji. Wspólną cechą tych rozwiązań jest reagowanie na przyłożone napięcie. W następnych rozdziałach (3-5.) opisano odpowiednio szklenie gazochromowe, materiały z pamięcią kształtu i biologiczne z przemianą fototermiczną. Rozdział ostatni stanowi zestawienie porównawcze powyższych rozwiązań w aspekcie ich cech estetycznych, użytkowych i energetycznych.
The paper discusses the modern material technologies intended for the facades of buildings. Emphasis has been put on the aesthetic, utility and energy aspects. The paper vaguely explains the principle of how these technologies work and describes their features having impact on the architecture of the buildings. In chapter 2, switchable glazing technologies, i.e.: SPD, LCD, electrochromic and micro-blind glass have been analyzed. Their common feature is ability to react under influence of voltage. Another chapters (3-5) include description of gasochromic glazing technology, shape memory materials and biothermic materials respectively. In the last chapter all these technologies have been compared in terms of their aesthetic, functional and energetic features.

Artykuł jest analizą koncepcji smart city, jaka wyłania się z lektury materiałów dystrybuowanych przez samorządy i administrację publiczną oraz firmy będące dostawcami nowych technologii dla miast. W pierwszej części tekstu prezentowane są źródła koncepcji smart city, które wykraczają poza wąsko rozumiany rozwój technologii teleinformatycznych, ale wiążą się z przemianami współczesnych miast, modeli urbanistycznych, modeli gospodarczych, nowych polityk rozwojowych, kapitalizmem kognitywnym czy roli, jaką pełni współczesna przestrzeń miejska w globalnym łańcuchu wartości ziemi. Następnie koncepcja ta skonfrontowana jest z argumentami krytycznymi dotyczącymi procesów decyzyjnych, władzy dyskrecjonalnej, kontroli informacji, segregacji społecznej, cyberbezpieczeństwa i monopolu na technologię. Na koniec przedstawione są wyłaniające się z tej dyskusji dwa skrajne modele rozwoju smart city. Pierwszy scenariusz przewiduje oligopol firm technologicznych i smart city jako wysoce sformatowany i mało podatny na modyfikacje produkt teleinformatyczny. Drugi scenariusz to wizja demokratycznej „anarchii”, technologii wolnego dostępu, paradygmatu otwartości i ciągłego modyfikowania rozwiązań, brak regulacji dostępu do zasobów danych. Oba modele stanowią figurę retoryczną i mają na celu pokazanie istotnych decyzji, przed którymi stają zarządcy współczesnych miast i wokół których toczy się debata na temat nowych technologii w polityce miejskiej.
This paper retraces the concept of smart city that emerges from an analysis of materials distributed by authorities, public administration and companies supplying new technologies for cities. The first part of this article presents the origins of the smart city concept that go beyond the narrowly understood development of IT, and involve changes of modern cities, urban regimes, economic models, new development policies, cognitive capitalism and the role of contemporary urban space in global value chain. Next, the idea of smart city is confronted with critical arguments regarding decision-making processes, discretionary power, information control, social segregation, cyber security and monopoly on technology. As an outcome, two polarized models of smart city development are outlined. The first scenario foresees the oligopoly of technology companies and smart city as a highly-formatted and less susceptible to modifications IT product. The second scenario is a vision of democratic „anarchy”, open access technology, paradigm of openness and constant modification of solutions, deregulation of data access. Both models are seen as rhetorical figures that allow to outline key decisions faced by managers of contemporary cities, which are quickly becoming the focal points of global discussion on the relations between new technologies and urban policy.

The purpose of the study was to identify educational effects of a new learning method that integrates mobile-technology-based science learning with activity oriented discovery learning. The major finding of the study was that the mobile technology-based Science program enabled students to learn scientific knowledge through associated activities and creatively apply their knowledge to complete the mission of the learning. Also, the study found that the use of tablet PCs and SNS for scientific inquiry activities facilitated students to learn in fun ways, to collaborate with other students, and to share what they have learned with each other.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono informacje dotyczące systemu inteligentny dom wraz z uzasadnieniem tezy, że ta technologia może być stosowana w domach jednorodzinnych. Podano ogólną charakterystykę systemu, która zawiera historię powstania oraz istotę działania. Zwrócono uwagę na mniejsze zużycie energii, dzięki zastosowaniu technologii, przez co budynki mogą łatwiej spełnić wymagania Dyrektywy Parlamentu Europejskiego z roku 2010. W artykule opisano najważniejsze podfunkcje, takie jak np. sterowanie oświetleniem, ogrzewaniem czy podsystem przeciwpożarowy. Na podstawie układu funkcjonalnego domu jednorodzinnego wykonano analizę najważniejszych rodzajów systemu. W pracy stwierdzono, że systemy inteligentnego domu można stosować nie tylko na etapie budowy, lecz także w istniejących budynkach, bez potrzeby ingerencji w ściany.
The study presents information about the intelligent house system along with the justification of the thesis that this technology can be used in single-family houses. The general characteristics of the system are given, which include the history of the creation and the essence of operation. Attention has been paid to lower energy consumption due to the use of technology, which makes it easier for buildings to meet the requirements of the European Parliament Directive 2010. The article describes the most important sub-functions, such as lighting, heating or fire-protection subsystem. Based on the functional layout of a single-family home, the analysis of the most important types of the system was carried out. The study states that smart home systems can be used not only at the construction stage, but also in existing buildings, without the need for interference in the walls.

Low cost manufacturing of quality products remains an essential part of present economy and technological advances made it possible. Advances and amalgamation of information technology bring the production systems at newer level. Industry 4.0, factory for future, smart factory, digital manufacturing, and industrial automation are the new buzz words of industry stalwarts and academicians. These new technological revolutions bound to change not only the complete manufacturing scenarios but many other sectors of the society. In this paper an attempt has been made to capture the essence of Industry 4.0 by redefining it in simple words, further its complex, disruptive nature and inevitability along with technologies backing it has been discussed. Its enabling role in manufacturing philosophies like Lean Manufacturing, and Flexible Manufacturing are also reported. At last the challenges its adoption and future research areas are proposed.

Within these actions the use of modern maintenance approaches such as Maintenance 4.0 is highlighted as one of the prevailing smart & sustainable manufacturing topics. The goal of this paper is to describe the latest trends within the area of maintenance management from the perspective of the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution and the economic, environmental and social challenges of sustainable development. In this work, intelligent and sustainable maintenance was considered in three perspectives. The first perspective is the historical perspective, in relation to which evolution has been presented in the approach to maintenance in accordance with the development of production engineering. The next perspective is the development perspective, which presents historical perspectives on maintenance data and data-driven maintenance technology. The third perspective, presents maintenance in the context of the dimensions of sustainable development and potential opportunities for including data-driven maintenance technology in the implementation of the economic, environmental and social challenges of sustainable production.

The objective of this study is to examine and better understand the impact of new technologies on multimedia journalism, mainly from the viewpoint of augmented reality (AR). Then, in the context of literature review, and in view of recent real-world examples of AR experience introduced by Harvard Business Review, the author will explore and critically evaluate the idea of using AR as a tool to help attract customers to newspapers and other print media. Apart from compelling content, newspapers can start offering a thrilling and enjoyable experience thanks to the implementation of innovative technologies. Thus, they can enhance multimedia journalism and take it to a whole new level. The study is complemented by an empirical probe focused on the current preferred ways of reading newspapers by readers in both the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. The survey also reveals the level of the survey respondents’ awareness and imagination of ‘live images’ as an engaging part of media content. Simultaneously, specific examples of AR used in different industries are delineated and associated questions and directions for further research are suggested.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie kluczowych założeń oraz możliwości wykorzystania koncepcji smart city w polskich realiach na przykładzie miasta Płocka. W artykule autorzy zaprezentowali ideę inteligentnego miasta oraz korzyści i zagrożenia, jakie płyną z jej wdrożenia. Ponadto, na podstawie krytycznej analizy dokumentów oraz obserwacji autorzy dokonali oceny działań podejmowanych w Płocku i wskazali na elementy, które świadczą o jego inteligentnym zarządzaniu.
The idea of a smart city is nowadays one of the most frequently raised issues during discussions concerning city management. The aim of this article is to present key assumptions and possibilities of using a smart city concept in Polish reality based on the example of the city of Płock. The authors of this article presented the idea of an intelligent city with the benefits and risks of its implementation. Moreover, based on the critical analysis of documents and observations the authors have evaluated the actions undertaken in Płock and pointed out elements that prove the intelligent management.

Today's cities face many challenges, including those related to the aging of the population, climate change, or broadly understood public safety and health. Examples from many places around the world show that without access to modern technologies, cities, companies, and public institutions could not function, provide services or care for the safety of billions of people living in urban areas. That is especially vital in conditions of the threat to many people's health and life and shutdown of economies caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Therefore, the article aims to present selected examples of smart solutions used in cities in the face of the challenges related to ensuring security. Their functionality in pandemic conditions is also described both at present and if the state of emergency continued for the following years. The study proved that the importance of smart solutions for contemporary cities' functioning is growing in the face of the threat to the residents' health and life caused by COVID-19. That mainly applies to tools in the area of e-government, e-education, and e-services in the healthcare sector, including applications for reporting and informing about clusters of virus infections.

Zmiany demograficzne, jakie możemy obecnie odnotować w społeczeństwie, mają charakter bezprecedensowy: jeszcze nigdy w historii liczba mieszkańców naszego świata nie powiększała się tak gwałtownie a jednocześnie – średnia wieku ludności nie była tak wysoka. Szacuje się, że już w tym momencie grupa osób powyżej sześćdziesiątego roku życia to około 500 milionów w skali świata, a do roku 2050 proporcja osób starszych najprawdopodobniej niemal się podwoi, stanowiąc ponad 1/5 całej populacji. Istnieje wiele definicji miasta inteligentnego: różnią się one rozłożeniem akcentów – jedne z nich zwracają uwagę głównie na kwestie technologiczne, inne – na zagadnienia społeczne. Współczesne miasta coraz częściej wykorzystują inteligentne rozwiązania i technologie, a miarą ich racjonalnego stosowania jest wskaźnik jakości życia mieszkańców. Co istotne – wszystkich mieszkańców, niezależnie od ich możliwości i sprawności. Z dużą pewnością założyć można, że miasto inteligentne jest więc miastem dostępnym i przyjaznym. Artykuł ma na celu analizę tych spośród stosowanych rozwiązań i polityk miejskich współczesnych smart cities, które w bezpośredni sposób wpływają na jakość życia mieszkańców starszych i z niepełnosprawnością.
Demographic changes that can be notice in nowadays society are unprecedented: the population of our world has never before been increased so rapidly. What is more, an average life expectancy has never been so high. It is estimated that the group of seniors (persons over sixty years old) is about 500 million worldwide. Academics and demographers admit, that by 2050 the overall proportion of elderly is going to double, approaching over a one-fifth of the entire population. Definitions of the smart city are numerous. Some of them focus mainly on technology aspects, while the others emphasize more human and social issues. Contemporary cities have frequently been using newest technologies and solutions and an indicator of habitants’ quality of life (persons with disabilities as well) is a measure of this using. Hence, with great certainty it can be assumed that a smart city is equally an accessible for all and friendly city. The aim of this paper is to analyse some of solutions and urban policies which are applying of modern smart cities. Characterised solutions directly affect the quality of life of the elderly and people with disabilities and accessibility of urban spaces.

In this paper, we use the blockchain technology to design a prototype to secure process data from a 3D-printer. Datastreams are gathered from various sources such as OPC UA servers and autonomous retrofit sensor nodes. This is followed by pre-processing for data reduction, storage in a data model, and the generation of a unique hash value over it. The hash values are stored in a blockchain using appropriate consensus methods, taking into account their temporal origin and production identification number. This also includes the context-related influence of sensor signals on the production process Restrictive access regulations using smart contracts make a partially or fully automated machine tool calibration possible. In this context, we show to realize a process partial or full automation through smart contracts. Physical machine tools and virtual simulations are integrated into the block-chain network to document the stability and performance.

The industrial landscape is undergoing a series of fundamental changes, because of the advances in cutting-edge digital technologies. Under the framework of Industry 4.0 engineers have focused their effort on the development of new frameworks integrating digital technologies such as Big Data Analytics, Digital Twins, Extended Reality, and Artificial Intelligence, to upscale modern manufacturing systems, reduce uncertainties, and cope with the increased market volatility. However, in the upcoming industrial revolution, i.e., Industry 5.0, the research focus will be directed towards the new generation of human operators, the Operator 5.0. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the key technologies that will be the drivers towards the realization of the Operator 5.0 and to highlight the key challenges. Additional contribution is the proposal of a framework for the training and support of shopfloor technicians based on the utilization of Mixed Reality for manufacturing processes.

The fourth industrial revolution (4IR) introduces significant changes in various areas of economic and social life. Many of them are perceived as groundbreaking and game-changing, which is a feature of every revolution. 4IR exerts a direct impact on economic and social life through the incredible development of ICT. The paper aims to present the scope of impact of these changes on logistics and supply chain management – areas of business management that are currently of great importance for competitiveness. The role of ICT in modern logistics and supply chain management was also shown, and selected specific technologies that considerably contribute to the deepening of digital transformation in these areas of activity were discussed. Attention was drawn to the complementarity of ICT solutions at the enterprise and the economy levels. The authors came up with a concept of an intelligent (digital) supply chain as a solution that satisfies the need to strengthen supply chain’s resilience and supports the implementation of environmental sustainability strategies in line with the development of the circular economy. The authors also discuss development directions of the so-called intelligent logistics and intelligent supply chains under the conditions of 4IR.
