Objectives: Studies involving simulators are increasingly popular. We examined to what extent exposure to a variety of test conditions on the simulator affects the level of mood and severity of simulator sickness. In addition, we were interested in finding out to what degree the changes in mood are associated with the severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness. Material and Methods: Twelve men (aged M: 29.8, SD: 4.26) participated in the study, performing two 30-minute tasks in a driving simulator truck (fixed-base and mobile platform). For measuring mood, the UMACL questionnaire was used, and to assess the severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness, the SSQ questionnaire was used. Mood and the severity of simulator sickness symptoms were measured 3 times during the study (pretest, 2 min and 0.5 h after the test). Results: Symptoms of nausea and disorientation occurred after the tests on both simulators. In the case of the mobile platform, exacerbation of the symptoms associated with oculomotor disturbances was observed. These symptoms were particularly severe 2 min after completion of the test on the simulator, and they persisted for at least 0.5 h after the end of the test. The correlations between simulator sickness and mood explained from 35% to 65% of the variance of these variables. In particular, a strong association was observed between the oculomotor disturbances and a decrease in energetic arousal. This refers both to the effect level and the duration of these symptoms. Conclusions: Simulator sickness is a major problem in the use of simulators in both the research and the training of operators. In the conditions involving the mobile platform, not only was a higher severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness observed, but also a decrease in energetic arousal. Therefore, the implementation of the mobile platform can provide an additional source of conflict at the level of incoming stimuli and changes in mood may increase this effect. Thus, it seems important to consider the tasks performed on the simulator in the context of utility and the purpose for which we use them.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the article is to propose the studies and analyses schema considering the psychophysical state of the simulator's users. Within the project a simulator and a virtual environment that allow a group of people (e.g. security guard officers) with real equipment such as cars to train different scenarios are built. The simulator users are interacting both with other colleagues and virtual surroundings. It implies that classical methods of so-called simulator sickness measurement should be adopted to the type of interaction that we call man-man-machine interaction. Design/methodology/approach: Simulator sickness that manifests itself in physiological ailments is considered in an interdisciplinary approach with particular emphasis on psychological aspects such as coping with stress, anxiety or cognitive and visual techniques related to the combined static and dynamic platforms. The main methods for the research are psychological Paper-and-Pencil surveys, eye-tracking technics, postural equilibrium tests, Poppelreuter test and Simulator Sickness Questionnaire. Findings: The result is studies and analyses schema related to the simulator users’ psychophysical state appearing in the project ‘Virtual Simulator of Actions of the Polish Government Protection Office’. Research limitations/implications: The research is limited to simulators specified in purpose section. Practical implications: It is anticipated that more accurate selection of individuals for security services will be possible through the use of the proposed research and diagnostic methods and analysis of the results obtained. Social implications: It is provided that more specific choice of people for security services will result in better training of the staff, an increase of the sense of security of the protected people as well as their quality of life. Originality/value: The novelty of the article is an interdisciplinary approach to the study of simulator sickness which takes into account physiological, psychological, social (group work) and technical (type of simulator) aspects.

The article presents a short description of the developed application based on a relational database and the results of the application functionality test. The application allows you to analyse the parameters of the process of simulating the use of a virtual overhead crane performed on a simulator, e.g. in terms of errors. The tested application works with the simulator of an overhead crane controlled from a cabin modelled using virtual reality. The tests were carried out with the participation of training instructors and occupational health and safety employees.
W artykule przedstawiono krótką charakterystykę opracowanej aplikacji opartej na relacyjnej bazie danych oraz wyniki testu funkcjonalności aplikacji. Aplikacja umożliwia prowadzenie analizy parametrów przebiegu procesu symulacji użytkowania wirtualnej suwnicy pomostowej prowadzonej na symulatorze, np. w aspekcie popełnianych błędów. Testowana aplikacja współpracuje z symulatorem suwnicy pomostowej sterowanej z poziomu kabiny, który wykonano w technice rzeczywistości wirtualnej. Testy przeprowadzono przy udziale instruktorów szkoleniowych i pracowników służb bhp.

Since January 2021, Havila Kystruten has been one of two companies sailing the coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes. This paper contains information on the new shipping company Havila Kystruten and their 2019 bid for a 10-year operational license to sail the coastal route. The government's tender documents for the new license specified that the vessels operating the route had to be low-emission vessels. This requirement was in line with the government's white paper on the reduction of emissions for commercial and fishing vessels sailing in Norwegian waters. Thus, companies bidding for the new license had to offer new ships with low emission characteristics or rebuild existing vessels to obtain the low emission requirements. Based on the offers, the government decided to split the operational license between two companies. One part was given to the company previously operating the route (Hurtigruten) and the other to the new company Havila Kystruten. While Hurtigruten would rebuild the engine systems on some of their existing vessels, Havila Kystruten would operate the route using new vessels with low emission signature. The design requirements for these vessels were given by Havila Kystruten to the ship designer, Havyard Design and Solutions (now HAVDesign). Some of the requirements are listed in section 4 below. The latter part of this paper investigates the manoeuvring performance of the new Havila Kystruten vessels, containing a summary of a Research Council of Norway funded innovation project on harsh weather ship handling during port operations. The Port of Trondheim was selected as a case study.

Ship maneuvering models are the keys to the research of ship maneuverability, design of ship motion control system and development of ship handling simulators. For various frames of ship maneuvering models, determining the parameters of the models is always a tedious task. System identification theory can be used to establish system mathematical models by the system’s input data and output data. In this paper, based on the analysis of ship hydrodynamics, a nonlinear model frame of ship maneuvering is established. System identification theory is employed to estimate the parameters of the model. An algorithm based on the extended Kalman filter theory is proposed to calculate the parameters. In order to gain the system’s input and output data, which is necessary for the parameters identification experiment, turning circle tests and Zig-zag tests are performed on shiphandling simulator and the initial data is collected. Based on the Fixed Interval Kalman Smoothing algorithm, a pre-processing algorithm is proposed to process the raw data of the tests. With this algorithm, the errors introduced during the measurement process are eliminated. Parameters identification experiments are designed to estimate the model parameters, and the ship maneuvering model parameters estimation algorithm is extended to modify the parameters being estimated. Then the model parameters and the ship maneuvering model are determined. Simulation validation was carried out to simulate the ship maneuverability. Comparisons have been made to the simulated data and measured data. The results show that the ship maneuvering model determined by our approach can seasonably reflect the actual motion of ship, and the parameter estimation procedure and algorithms are effective.

First, we especially focused on Uchida-Kraepelin performance test (hereinafter, referred to as UK-Test) in order to check the ability of non-technical skills of the officers in charge of a navigational watch (hereinafter, referred to as OICNW). UK-Test is one of the psychological test for understanding the personality. In this paper, we considered whether UK-Test is effective methods for OICNW in order to check the ability of non-technical skills using UK-Test results and collision avoidance manoeuvre experiments results on the ship handling simulator (hereinafter, referred to as the simulator). Specifically, we analysed the correlation between UK-Test results and collision avoidance manoeuvre experiments results on the simulator. We also created the collision avoidance scenario that required a lot of the ability of non-technical skills as OICNW, and evaluated the ability of non-technical skills of OICNW.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących zachowania się kierowców w sytuacjach przedwypadkowych. Zostały one przeprowadzone w symulatorze jazdy samochodem autoPW w ramach projektu badawczego N509 016 31/1251. Wykonano badania w zainscenizowanej sytuacji zagrożenia polegającej na wniknięciu w obszar jezdni przeszkody w postaci pieszego. W artykule przedstawiono rezultaty pomiarów wielkości opisujących sposób reagowania kierowców w opisanej sytuacji zagrożenia: czasu reakcji kierowców i częstości (prawdopodobieństwa) podjęcia przez nich określonego manewru obronnego. Wielkości te przedstawiono w funkcji czasu ryzyka. Zaprezentowane wyniki potwierdzają słuszność prowadzenia tego rodzaju badań w symulatorach w związku z możliwością dosyć wiernego odwzorowania wyglądu otoczenia, scenariusza zdarzeń w stosunku do możliwych rzeczywistych sytuacji.
This paper presents the results of research studies on behaviours of drivers in pre-accident situations. They were carried out in the driving simulator autoPW under the research project N509 016 31/1251. The tests were performed in a staged dangerous situation involving a sudden emergence of a roadblock in a form of a pedestrian into the roadway area. The paper presents the results of measurements of the quantities that describe the way drivers react in the hereto described situation posing danger on: reaction time of drivers and the frequency (probability) of a defensive man oeuvre that they take. The quantities were presented in the risk time function. The results presented prove legitimacy for conducting this type of research studies in simulators due to a possibility of a quite true mapping of the environment appearance, scenario of events, in view of possible real situations.

The utilization of satellites equipped with robotic arms is one of the existing strategies for Active Debris Removal (ADR). Considering that the time intended for on-orbit capturing manoeuvres is strictly limited, any given space robot should possess a certain level of autonomy. This paper is about the control of on-orbit space robots and the testing of such objects in laboratory conditions. The Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CBK PAN) possesses a planar air bearing microgravity simulator used for the testing of advanced control algorithms of space robots supported on air bearings. This paper presents recent upgrades to the testing facility. Firstly, the base of the space robot is now equipped with manoeuvre thrusters using compressed nitrogen and therefore allowing for position control of the entire system. Secondly, a signal from an external vision system, referencing the position and orientation of the robot’s parts is used by the control system for the closed loop control.
