Opis:
As the field of biotechnology expands and the semiconductor industry approaches the limit of size reduction with conventional materials, these and other fields will increasingly rely on nanomaterials with novel properties. Silicon carbide (SiC) possesses many properties that make it appealing to research and industry: a large band gap, high hardness, high strength, low thermal expansion, chemical inertness, etc. It is known that silicon carbide nanowires can be synthesized through a reaction between silicon vapor and multiwalled carbon nanotubes. This process was refined to produce smaller, straighter nanowires. This was done by analyzing the dependence of the reaction rate on the partial vapor pressure of silicon. The reaction rate was studied by comparison of SiC and multiwalled carbon nanotubes peak intensities in X-ray diffractograms, which produced an estimate of the respective reactions' SiC yields. The particle morphologies were then analyzed with transmission electron microscopy. Finally, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was utilized to study the intensities and frequencies of the SiC infrared absorption bands. This data was analyzed with respect to the previously determined yield and particle sizes of the respective SiC nanowire samples.

Opis:
This paper presents research on the deposition of an indium tin oxide (ITO) layer which may act as a recombination layer in a silicon/perovskite tandem solar cell. ITO was deposited by magnetron sputtering on a highly porous surface of silicon etched by the metal-assisted etching method (MAE) for texturing as nano and microwires. The homogeneity of the ITO layer and the degree of coverage of the silicon wires were assessed using electron microscopy imaging techniques. The quality of the deposited layer was specified, and problems related to both the presence of a porous substrate and the deposition method were determined. The presence of a characteristic structure of the deposited ITO layer resembling a "match" in shape was demonstrated. Due to the specificity of the porous layer of silicon wires, the ITO layer should not exceed 80 nm. Additionally, to avoid differences in ITO thickness at the top and base of the silicon wire, the layer should be no thicker than 40 nm for the given deposition parameters.

Opis:
This paper presents the combustion synthesis and characterization of one-dimensional silicon carbide nanostructures (nanowires of 3C-SiC polytype with zincblend structure) by means of cathodoluminescence technique. Cathodoluminescence spectra of nano-SiC samples and, as a reference, of a commercially available SiC micropowder are compared. It is shown that the emission band at 1.97 eV which is slightly evidenced in the spectrum of the commercial SiC under 10 keV electron beam irradiation becomes the prevailing band in CL of the purified silicon carbide nanowires.

Opis:
In this work we report on the atomic structures, elemental distribution, defects and dislocations of three types of semiconductor nanowires: ZnTe, CdTe, and complex ZnTe/(Cd,Zn)Te core/shell hetero-nanowires grown by a molecular beam epitaxy on (111) Si substrate using a vapor-liquid-solid mechanism. The structural properties and the chemical gradients were measured by transmission electron microscopy methods. The nanowires reveal mainly sphalerite structure, however wurtzite nanowires were also observed.
