Opis:
We establish new connections between some classes of lacunary sets. The main tool is the use of (p,q)-summing or weakly compact operators (for Riesz sets). This point of view provides new properties of stationary sets and allows us to generalize to more general abelian groups than the torus some properties of p-Sidon sets. We also construct some new classes of Riesz sets.

Some new properties of the stationary sets (defined by G. Pisier in [12]) are studied. Some arithmetical conditions are given, leading to the non-stationarity of the prime numbers. It is shown that any stationary set is a set of continuity. Some examples of "large" stationary sets are given, which are not sets of uniform convergence.

Opis:
In this paper, by defining a pair of classical sets as a relative set, an extension of the classical set algebra which is a counterpart of Belnap's four-valued logic is achieved. Every relative set partitions all objects into four distinct regions corresponding to four truth-values of Belnap's logic. Like truth-values of Belnap's logic, relative sets have two orderings; one is an order of inclusion and the other is an order of knowledge or information. By defining a rough set as a pair of definable sets, an integrated approach to relative sets and rough sets is obtained. With this definition, we are able to define an approximation of a rough set in an approximation space, and so we can obtain sequential approximations of a set, which is a good model of communication among agents.

In [2], D. E. Grow and M. Insall construct a countable compact set which is not the union of two H-sets. We make precise this result in two directions, proving such a set may be, but need not be, a finite union of H-sets. Descriptive set theory tools like Cantor-Bendixson ranks are used; they are developed in the book of A. S. Kechris and A. Louveau [6]. Two proofs are presented; the first one is elementary while the second one is more general and useful. Using the last one I prove in my thesis, directed by A. Louveau, the existence of a countable compact set which is not a finite union of Dirichlet sets. This result, quoted in [3], is weaker because all Dirichlet sets belong to H. Other new results about the class H and similar classes of thin sets can be found in [4], [1] and [5].

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to outline an idea of solving the problem of the vagueness of concepts. The starting point is a definition of the concept of vague knowledge. One of the primary goals is a formal justification of the classical viewpoint on the controversy about the truth and object reference of expressions including vague terms. It is proved that grasping the vagueness in the language aspect is possible through the extension of classical logic to the logic of sentences which may contain vague terms. The theoretical framework of the conception refers to the theory of Pawlak's rough sets and is connected with Zadeh's fuzzy set theory as well as bag (or multiset) theory. In the considerations formal logic means and the concept system of set theory have been used. The paper can be regarded as an outline of the logical theory of vague concepts.

We investigate random Sidon-type sets in which the degrees of the representations are weighted. These variants of Sidon sets are of interest as there are compact non-abelian groups which admit no infinite Sidon sets. In this note we determine the largest weight function such that infinite random weighted Sidon sets exist in all infinite compact groups.

Let E be a Sidon subset of the integers and suppose X is a Banach space. Then Pisier has shown that E-spectral polynomials with values in X behave like Rademacher sums with respect to $L_p$-norms. We consider the situation when X is a quasi-Banach space. For general quasi-Banach spaces we show that a similar result holds if and only if E is a set of interpolation ($I_0$-set). However, for certain special classes of quasi-Banach spaces we are able to prove such a result for larger sets. Thus if X is restricted to be "natural" then the result holds for all Sidon sets. We also consider spaces with plurisubharmonic norms and introduce the class of analytic Sidon sets.

In [1] Burger and Mynhardt introduced the idea of universal fixers. Let G = (V, E) be a graph with n vertices and G' a copy of G. For a bijective function π: V(G) → V(G'), define the prism πG of G as follows: V(πG) = V(G) ∪ V(G') and $E(πG) = E(G) ∪ E(G') ∪ M_{π}$, where $M_{π} = {u π(u) | u ∈ V(G)}$. Let γ(G) be the domination number of G. If γ(πG) = γ(G) for any bijective function π, then G is called a universal fixer. In [9] it is conjectured that the only universal fixers are the edgeless graphs K̅ₙ. In this work we generalize the concept of universal fixers to the convex universal fixers. In the second section we give a characterization for convex universal fixers (Theorem 6) and finally, we give an in infinite family of convex universal fixers for an arbitrary natural number n ≥ 10.

Note that under a space of the second category in itself Keldysh understood a Baire space. The answer to the question as stated is negative if X is Baire but Y is not Baire.

Opis:
Similarly to quasidifferential equations of Panasyuk, the so-called mutational equations of Aubin provide a generalization of ordinary differential equations to locally compact metric spaces. Here we present their extension to a nonempty set with a possibly nonsymmetric distance. In spite of lacking any linear structures, a distribution-like approach leads to so-called right-hand forward solutions.
These extensions are mainly motivated by compact subsets of the Euclidean space whose evolution is determined by the nonlocal properties of both the current set and the normal cones at its topological boundary. Indeed, simple deformations such as isotropic expansions exemplify that topological boundaries do not have to evolve continuously in time and thus Aubin's original concept cannot be applied directly. Here neither regularity assumptions about the boundaries nor the inclusion principle are required. The regularity of compact reachable sets of differential inclusions is studied extensively instead.
This example of nonlocal set evolutions in the Euclidean space serves as an introductory motivation for extending ordinary differential equations (and evolution equations) beyond the traditional border of vector spaces - and for combining it with other examples in systems.
