Opis:: For a meaningful and efficient probabilistic risk analysis of external hazards and event combinations involving such hazards those hazards with significant risk potential need to be identified and considered for detailed anal-yses. Such a site and plant specific screening approach for external and internal hazards based on a hazards library covering all types of hazards is under development at GRS. The paper provides insights on the approach and first examples of application.

Opis:: International experience has shown that external hazards (e.g. aircraft crash, flooding) can be safety significant contributors to the risk in case of nuclear power plants` operation. This is due to the fact that such hazards have the potential to reduce simultaneously the level of redundancy by damaging redundant systems or their supporting systems. In this paper, the procedure for the external hazard aircraft crash is described In more detail, starting with the screening procedure in order to determine scope and content of the assessment and the approach for those cases where a full scope analysis has to be performed. The consideration regarding this hazard does as not cover an intended aircraft crash.

Opis:: The results of the first fire risk assessments on an international level have shown that fires are one major contributor to the risk of a nuclear power plant depending on the plant specific fire protection concept. Therefore, fire risk assessment has today become an integral part of the probabilistic safety assessment of nuclear power plants in addition to deterministic analyses. Based on existing guidance documents a state-ofthe-art approach for performing probabilistic fire risk assessment has also been developed in Germany. This approach has been exemplarily and completely applied to a German nuclear power plant with boiling water reactor for the full power states PSA. The general approach outlines the steps necessary for performing fire risk assessment and the prerequisites for a sound and traceable database.

Opis:: The marine environment is estimated to be one of the most significant sources of biological activity in the world. In the last few decades an increase in the research intensity conducted on marine microorganisms has been observed, which confirms the great potential of these organisms in the field of bioactive compounds' production. In order to efficiently use the natural resources of the marine environment, metagenomics can be applied. This powerful technique allows for efficient screening of microbial biodiversity for bioactive compounds. The primary aim of this review is to present some aspects of the construction of metagenomic libraries, and strategies of screening for novel bioactives in the marine surrounding. This paper also illustrates several examples of the application of metagenomic methods in the discovery of novel enzymes and drugs in various marine environments.

Opis:: Recent approach of Neural Network can be applied to solve a wide range of optimization problems. This paper deals with reliability, non-reliability and profit analysis of a paper plant. The objective of this paper is to compute profit of paper plant using neural network Algorithm and to analyze the availability of the system. The system is divided into four main subsystems. A multi-layered neural network model is used in order to optimize the maintenance of the paper plant system. The system may fail due to hardware failure with human errors and various environmental conditions. All types of failures, repairs and waiting rates are exponential. System state probabilities and other parameters are developed for the proposed model using neural network approach. Numerical examples are included to demonstrate the results.
