Research and practice are focusing on development, validation and harmonization of technologies and methodologies to ensure complete traceability process throughout the food chain. The main goals are: scale-up, implementation and validation of methods in whole food chains, assurance of authenticity, validity of labelling and application of HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control point) to the entire food chain. The current review is to sum the scientific and technological basis for ensuring complete traceability. Tracing and tracking (traceability) of foods are complex processes due to the (bio)markers, technical solutions and different circumstances in different technologies which produces various foods (processed, semi-processed, or raw). Since the food is produced for human or animal consumption we need suitable markers to be stable and traceable all along the production chain. Specific biomarkers can have a function in technology and in nutrition. Such approach would make this development faster and more comprehensive and would make possible that food effect could be monitored with same set of biomarkers in consumer. This would help to develop and implement food safety standards that would be based on real physiological function of particular food component.

W dobie XXI wieku gaz ziemny jest jednym z najbardziej znaczących surowców energetycznych na świecie a także bezpiecznym i niezwykle przyjaznym dla środowiska. Zanieczyszczenia, które wydzielają się w procesie jego spalania są o wiele mniejsze niż w przypadku innych surowców energetycznych, przy zachowaniu niezmiennej wysokiej wartości opałowej. Celem pracy jest analiza systemów zabezpieczeń instalacji gazowych, analiza wypadków z udziałem gazu ziemnego oraz zbadanie poziomu wiedzy i świadomości społecznej dotyczącej bezpieczeństwa użytkowania gazu ziemnego.
In the age of twenty-first century, natural gas is one of the most important energy resources in the world as well as extremely safe and environmentally friendly. Contaminants that are released in the process of combustion are much smaller than for other energy sources, while maintaining a constant high calorific value. The aim of the study is to analyze security systems of gas installations, accidents involving natural gas and to examine the level of knowledge and awareness of the safety in use of natural gas.

Nuclear power plants supply nearly one sixth of the world electric energy production. Though nuclear power is a very efficient source of energy, it produces dangerous radioactive waste composed of nuclides characterized, among others, by a long decay time and containing also significant quantities of fissible and even fissile materials. Therefore, spent nuclear fuel must be carefully stored for at least hundreds of years, all this time needing permanent supervision. Simultaneously this cumbersome waste contains also important amounts of energy that should not be simply buried forever. Thus, in spite of the fact that ultimate disposal of spent nuclear fuel in adequate geological formations is recognized as safe for the energy hungry world that tries at the same time to avoid CO2 emissions, this is a hardly acceptable solution. Fortunately, there is an effective approach, namely – spent fuel recycling, particularly with the help of nuclear fusion. Simultaneously, one has to admit that this concept has not attained yet technological maturity, thus lengthy and costly investigations still are necessary before nuclear fusion achieves development level adequate to industrial application. Since every nuclear device must be generally safe, therefore this article raises a safety issue of fusion-fission hybrid design. In order to ensure the required reliability of evaluations the development of heterogeneous model of the device was assumed as the starting point for further respective research. The performed calculations have indicated that maintenance of subcriticality even in the case of system collapse is achievable.

Bezprzewodowe sieci sensorowe, ze względu na rozmieszczenie ich elementów w terenie, są narażone na szereg zagrożeń. Zagrożenia te mogą wynikać ze świadomych akcji ludzi starających się ją nielegalnie wykorzystać lub unieszkodliwić takich, jak ataki terrorystyczne, podsłuchiwanie transmisji, czy podszywanie się pod użytkownika. Mogą one jednak być rezultatem zakłóceń środowiskowych takich, jak silny sygnał radiowy lub pożar. Sieci sensorowe w większości zastosowań mają ograniczone zasoby energii i możliwości obliczeniowe węzłów w porównaniu do kablowych sieci informatycznych. Tym ambitniejsze staje się zadanie zapewnienia im bezpiecznej pracy, w taki sposób, by nawet przy problemach ze środowiskiem lub podczas wrogich atakaów ludzi mogły spełniać swoją zasadniczą funkcję zbierania danych z czujników i przesyłaniu tych danych użytkownikowi zgodnie z jego potrzebami. Ze względu na rosnące zapotrzebowanie, w różnych dziedzinach działań człowieka, na sieci sensorowe powstaje w ostatnich latach wiele prac naukowych dotyczących systemów zapewniających ich bezpieczną pracę. Niniejsza publikacja ma na celu przybliżenie czytelnikom, a szczególnie projektantom systemów wykorzystujących sieci sensorowe, efektów tych prac oraz usystematyzowanie problemów w tej dziedzinie. W pracy przedstawiono podstawowe cechy najczęściej spotykanych ataków oraz techniki stosowane w sieciach sensorowych dla uzyskania bezpieczeństwa protokołu komunikacji, zabezpieczenia stacji bazowych przed identyfikacją i atakiem. Całkowita anonimowość jest niemożliwa, ale opisano sposoby uzyskania kompromisu między anonimowością a potrzebami systemu monitorowania. Opisano techniki wykrywania intruzów w sieci i udaremniania ataku złośliwym węzłom, które zdobyły już jeden lub kilka kluczy kryptograficznych zaatakowanej sieci oraz techniki bezpiecznego grupowania danych. Następnie przedstawiono sposoby obrony przed fizycznymi atakami, techniki wykrywanie ataków i na zakończenie perspektywy w tej dziedzinie.
Wireless sensor networks are exposed to danger of attacks from people and from environment. Sensor nodes often have limited computation and communication resources and battery power. The resource constraints and security issues make designing mechanisms for safety of communication in large sensor networks particularly challenging. The growing research activity in the field of wireless sensor network security is very interesting for designers of data acquisition systems. Familiarity with the current publications in this field will be greatly helpful. In the paper major topics in wireless sensor networks security are presented. Next, classification of attacks, and known corresponding defensive measures are discussed. In the conclusion the perspectives for building a safe mobile sensor networks are introduced.

Case-study research was carried out with a view to find the attributes of occupational injury among workers in the chemical industry and to enhance safety issues. Injury data were collected and processed in terms of different variables, such as age, gender, skills, type of hazard, etc. Pareto analysis was then applied to find a pattern of occupational injury among the workers. The study revealed that 79.52% of the injured workers were in the 40–59 age group; 57.14% of accidents occurred during the 1st shift; 73.26% of accidents caused injury to hands, feet, chest to thigh, arms and eyes; and 70.93% of injuries were caused by pumps, carrying and lifting, vehicles, pipelines, valves, and grinding. Surprisingly, no one was injured in the group of temporary workers. The paper also provides specific suggestions followed by some action plans.

Opis:
The article discusses the safety requirements specified in pertinent standards and recommendations for designing civil engineering objects, with particular emphasis on earth structures intended for vehicle traffic. The focus was on the following issues: the essence of reliability and durability of the structure and ensuring safety at the stage of designing vehicle traffic embankments with a slope supported with the use of a retaining wall and embankments placed on a substrate characterized by insufficient bearing capacity. The procedure for designing traffic embankments on weak ground, reinforcing weak ground and designing retaining structures (on the example of a reinforced soil massif) was carried out in accordance with the calculations pertaining to the field of geo-engineering, applying general analytical dependencies.
Tematem artykułu są wymogi bezpieczeństwa podane w normach i zaleceniach projektowania obiektów inżynierii lądowej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem komunikacyjnych budowli ziemnych. Uwagę skupiono na zagadnieniach dotyczących: istoty niezawodności i trwałości konstrukcji oraz zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa na etapie projektowania nasypów komunikacyjnych ze skarpą podpartą z zastosowaniem ściany oporowej, a także nasypów posadowionych na podłożu o niedostatecznej nośności. Procedurę postępowania dotyczącą projektowania nasypów komunikacyjnych na słabym podłożu, wzmacniania słabego podłoża oraz projektowania konstrukcji oporowych (na przykładzie masywu z gruntu zbrojonego) przeprowadzono zgodnie z obowiązującymi w geoinżynierii obliczeniami, z wykorzystaniem ogólnych zależnościach analitycznych.

W artykule opisano wymogi bezpieczeństwa zawarte w normach i zaleceniach do projektowania obiektów inżynierii lądowej, szczególne do komunikacyjnych budowli ziemnych. Skoncentrowano się na kwestiach niezawodności i trwałości konstrukcji oraz na aspekcie bezpieczeństwa, m.in. jak wzmocnić podłoże gruntowe dróg kolejowych i nasypów. Opisano proces projektowania nasypów komunikacyjnych na słabym podłożu i konstrukcji oporowych na przykładzie masywu z gruntu zbrojonego. Omówiono i wykorzystano dane, zasady i obliczenia obowiązujące w geoinżynierii.

Celem prezentowanej pracy było opracowanie i weryfikacja uniwersalnego kryterium bezpiecznej pracy dla reaktora zbiornikowego o działaniu okresowym i półokresowym. Wykonano serię badań doświadczalnych mających na celu wyznaczenie i weryfikację wykresów granicznych, będących podstawą opracowania tego kryterium. Przeprowadzone badania doświadczalne i testy w pełni potwierdziły przydatność oraz dużą niezawodność opracowanego kryterium bezpieczeństwa.
The aim of this study was the elaboration and verification of universal criterion for safe operation of batch and semibatch stirred tank reactors. Series ' of experimental studies were carried out in the RC1 Mettler Toledo reaction calorimeter to determine and verify boundary diagrams on which this criterion is based. The carried out experiments fully confirm applicability and robustness of the elaborated criterion.

The article deals with the expediency of using multimedia technologies in the training of future specialists in environmental engineering and construction, including at the initial stage in the study of the subject "Introduction to the specialty". It is emphasized that these technologies open unprecedented prospects in solving important tasks and lead to the transition from the traditional scheme of transfer of reproductive knowledge to a new, creative form of learning. It is established that multimedia technologies in the classes of future specialists in environmental engineering and construction contribute to: the formation of professional skills through the use of Internet materials of different levels of complexity; improving listening skills with the help of authentic sound texts, film episodes; development of dialogue skills, improvement of professional correspondence skills, enrichment of professional vocabulary (both active and passive), which reflects a certain stage in the development of culture, various technical equipment, social and political structure of society; enrichment of students with cultural knowledge, including professional etiquette, features of traditions; improving knowledge through online exercises and tests. It is proved that the use of multimedia presentations in the training of future specialists in environmental engineering and construction, provides the function of transmitting information, as well as receiving feedback in the process of its perception and assimilation, as information presented in visual form is most accessible to perception. It is noted that the use of multimedia technologies in the training of future professionals contributes to the intensification and enrichment of the educational process, evokes a conscious perception of educational material, motivates and activates student learning, individualizes the process of studying specialties, diversifies classes, and promotes mental and creative skills. construction and civil security, increases interest in training and the level of professional skills.

Developing countries, trying to achieve an acceptable level of food safety at the least possible cost (efficiency objective) and facilitation of market access to the large and lucrative developed country food markets (market access objective), could follow the multilateral, regional, unilateral or the independent approach. The paper studying the pros and cons of these approaches aims to determine the most appropriate food safety reform package. It shows that the best approach is the unilateral. Under this approach the achievement of efficiency objective requires the adoption and implementation of the multilateral approach. The achievement of market access objective requires the adoption and implementation of the regulatory regime of the developed country whose markets the developing country is intending to penetrate. Instead, the paper proposes that the developing country adopts and implements the developed countries‘ regulatory regime only in agricultural sub-sectors with highest comparative advantage scores, and that in all other agricultural sub-sectors the country should adopt and implement the regulatory regime as developed by multilateral approach. Since the tasks associated with designing and implementing the food safety policy reform are challenging, the paper advocates that this task should be left to a new institution, the ‘Food Safety Council‘, which needs to be formed as an autonomous public institution with sufficient financial and technical resources.

Since one of the main mode of the COVID-19 transmission is through close contact with the infected person (<1.5 m distance) and body fluids (saliva, blood, aerosol particles), the dentists have become one of the groups being at most risk of being infected. The aim of this article is to present, based on the research search (publications from the last year 2020 and from the beginning of the current year 2021), the general overview of the situation during the COVID-19 pandemic with regard to patients and dentist as well as supporting personal protection. Authors identified 7 questions related to this topic. They address among others such issues as identification of the COVID-19 patients coming to the dental practice; protection of both the dentist and the patient from infection and a need for guidelines on the scope of emergency dental services during the pandemic. Opinions on the subject, expressed by the experts in the field, including general guidelines were also taken into consideration. In general, based on the literature overview, the COVID-19 pandemic has completely transformed the healthcare system, including dentistry. The identification of the COVID-19 patients coming to the dental practice has become a necessity (including taking epidemiological survey, temperature measurement). Currently, since “the group zero” in significant part has completed the full vaccination process, the health personnel (including dentists) might feel safer. The efficacy of the vaccines is high and provides a certain sense of security.

The article is focused on the problem of universal validity of moral norms and it combines them with security matters. It presents the point of view of relativism with its relative comprehension of standards, where they are conditioned by time and culture. It shows two negative examples of dealing with the universality of standards, i.e. the position of hedonism and utilitarianism. All three ethical orientations absolutely can not become the basisfor a sense of security. The article also justifies why the existence of universal standards should be discussed. Their various sources such as natural and revealed law, human nature and dignity, as well as a man understood as an aim in itself were indicated here. The article emphasises the fact that the existence of universal standards and respect for such a situation determine safe human existence. The analysis was conducted primarily on the basis of thework of one of the greatest living German philosopher Robert Spaemann. In contrast, the safety aspect harmonising with his thinking has been developed by the author of the article.

Prace z użyciem gazów technicznych w butlach należą do prac wyjątkowo niebezpiecznych, zagrażających zdrowiu i życiu pracownika. W zależności od rodzaju gazu zagrożenia te mogą mieć charakter toksyczny, pożarowy i wybuchowy. W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane informacje o gazach technicznych, znakowaniu butli i pojemników, bezpieczeństwie pracy, podstawach detekcji gazów oraz przepisach prawnych dotyczących gazów technicznych i obchodzenia się z nimi.
Work with technical gases in chemical, medical and industrial laboratories is exceptionally dangerous and is a threat to workers' health and life. Depending on the gas, it can pose a toxic, fire or explosive hazard. This article discusses selected issues related to technical gases, labels of bottles and containers, occupational safety, principles of detecting gases and current regulations on technical gases and their handling.

In this article, we discuss the safety-related problems of the tram transit infrastructure. We point out the directions to improve safety in tramway transportation. We also show the examples of actions aimed at safety improvement. Design and continuous development of infrastructure solutions have been deemed necessary to take account of traffic safety requirements.

The article presents the current information concerning the safety against derailment of railway vehicles that was collected on the basis of European standards, studies of committee ORE, UIC leaflets, Technical Specifications for Interoperability and national regulations. The essence of the safety factor against derailment, the way for its computational designation and the methodology of experimental studies are described.

The paper presents the characteristics of the rail transport system, including passenger and freight transport during the Covid-19 pandemic. The entities responsible for the safety of the railway sector were presented, among which were the Railway Transport Office, the company PKP PLK S.A., and the Railroad Security Guard, which played the most critical role. The paper presents statistical data for railway accidents and casualties in 2018–2021. It was noted that the Covid-19 pandemic significantly reduced passenger and freight transport. 2021 was the European Year of Railways; it was also an exceptional, demanding, and significant year for changes taking place on the railways. Throughout this time, the Office of Rail Transport promoted rail as a safe, ecological, and comfortable means of transport. Based on statistics and empirical research, the main problems of the railway sector were discussed, and the research hypothesis was verified positively.

Chemistry experiments have been an issue of vivid discussion for more than fifty years now. Though there are many who hold a stand-offish position, there is a general notion chemistry experiments inherently belong to chemistry instruction. In this study, attention was given first to the frequency that Czech teachers at both lower and upper-secondary schools use experiments, demonstrations, laboratory work etc. A random, generalisable sample of 354 teachers filled in a questionnaire. The results showed experiments are used only seldom at lower-secondary schools and lyceums, more frequently at grammar schools, yet just “at least once a month”. Safety showed as one of the barriers. The teachers expressed general knowledge about a norm which covers the topic, however in their further responses they expressed a lack of awareness of the compounds their students are allowed to work with. These findings are a call for measures such as: developing a database of well-described procedures including safety regulation remarks or a simplified, easy to follow list of up-to-date regulations.

The specificity of the work organization in Industry 4.0 varies depending on the technological development and the level of security of new technology solutions. Employees are required to maintain a key function in working with knowledge, including decentralized decision-making and the safety and quality assessment of the production processes. The results of occupational risk assessment are presented here as a method contributing not only to the improvement of production processes, but also to the improvement of the product quality level. Author presents solutions in the field of occupational health and safety management applied in the chosen production company in the department of repair and anti-corrosion works, which contributed to the product quality level improvement.

The term “ergonomics” means practical learning which determines the conditions for the optimal adjustment of tools, equipment, technology and organizational structures to meet the needs of employees. In an age of scientific-technological progress systematic research on human work supported by technology is indispensable. Technical civilization is not the “non-humanistic” world. Its creators enter into ethical relationships with recipients. The process of work humanization must be considered on three cognitive levels: theoretical, axiological and practical. This approach is neither contradictory nor competitive to the traditional understanding of ergonomic tasks, but is complementary to it. It is significant as it teaches how to use the achievements of knowledge wisely to facilitate and take human life to a higher level, also in moral terms.

Fabryki wyposażone w skomputeryzowane procesy i rozbudowane narzędzia diagnostyczne często nie wykorzystują wielu informacji, które są zbierane z poziomu sprzętowego. W celu zapewnienia odpowiedniego poziomu bezpieczeństwa niezbędna jest okresowa kontrola elementów bezpieczeństwa. Wyznaczenie optymalnej częstotliwości testowania przysparza trudności wielu przedsiębiorstwom. Wyznaczanie poziomu zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa po modyfikacjach urządzeń i ich dostosowanie do zmienionych wymagań stawia przed działami technicznymi nowe zadania. W referacie przedstawiono aktualne problemy zarządzania niezawodnością i bezpieczeństwem linii produkcyjnej pokazane na przykładzie linii produkcji półfabrykatów.
In the paper, are presented current problems shown by way of the sample line production of semi-finished products. Modern production lines, designed according to the latest requirements of ISO standards and optimized for the economic aspects, as well as the older production lines, faces the problems to ensure adequate reliability as a function of costs while ensuring the required safety level. Factory equipped with computerized processes and enhanced diagnostic tools often do not use a lot of information’s that are collected from the hardware. Many possible to detect and to prevent defects still do not have the founded root cause. In order to ensure an adequate level of safety it is required periodic inspection of safety features. Determination of the optimal frequency of testing poses difficulties in many companies. The mathematical approach isn’t very common, and demands high level of technical knowledge and familiarity with the norms and safety aspects. Determining the level of safety after the modification of equipment and adapt it to the requirements put technical departments in the face of new requirements and problems.
