Opis:
In this paper, we propose a new formal model to describe risk analysis and measurement process for IT systems. Our model complies with international standards and recommendations for non-profit organisations. The model accounts for solutions used in widely known and recommended risk analysis methods and provides for evaluation of efficacy of these solutions. A simple example illustrates the application of the proposed model for effective risk analysis of any IT system.

Construction firms must have the ability to cope with continuous change. Due to the wide range of types this article makes a brief survey of the subject of risk management in the construction industry with reference to selected publications. It aims to make a selection of methods used for risk analysis, while at the same time indicating their advantages and drawbacks and determining their degree of usefulness.

Several banks use internal Value at Risk models to measure market risk and to calculate regulatory capital necessary to cover that risk. Backtesting is a statistical tool that allows differentiating precise and imprecise risk models. The objective of this paper is to backtest selected Value at Risk models in a period preceding and during the financial crisis, based on the example of Polish currency, equity and bond markets. The obtained results do not justify unequivocal statistical acceptance of any of the analyzed models. This in turn suggest extreme caution in using Value at Risk as the only quantitative risk management tool. Stable and cautious risk management of a financial institution calls for supplementing Value at Risk with alternative risk measures.

Opis:
Water supply system is complicated technical system which belongs to underground urban infrastructure. Its accurate functioning determines everyday live stability of citizens. Risk analysis is a key phase of the process of water supply safety management. The aim of this paper is to present new propose of methods for risk of the first type (associated with quantity of supplied water) and the risk of the second type (associated with quality of supplied water) analyses in water supply system. The paper contains the description of matrix methods for risk analyses and methods describing cause-and-effect relationship of failure events (fault tree analysis).

Opis:
Purpose: Presentation of selected methods of project and data analysis - describes how data on ongoing projects should be collected, so that it can be used later, by applying the appropriate methodology. Design/methodology/approach: Literature research of the subject was carried out. Finding: Having a methodology for data collection leads, in the long term, to the implementation of a system that allows the use of this methodology. The system should provide information to help make better decisions, reducing or eliminating the risk of project failure. Practical implications: Development of a methodology of data collection and analysis on this basis. Originality/value: The implemented projects are comparable with each other and, on this basis, it can be argued that identifying the risks that have occurred in the past, during the implementation of various stages of projects, can contribute to more effective risk management during the implementation of current and future projects.

The development of scientific research has led to the very dynamic growth of methods in the area of financial risk management. This refers particularly to risk measures in which quantitative methods are applied. The paper provides a discussion on a systematization of different risk measures proposed in scientific literature and used in practice. There are four criteria proposed in the paper. The first is the concept of risk applied by distinguishing negative and neutral concept. The second criterion is the character of the risk variable, either discrete or continuous . The third criterion makes the distinction between high frequency, low severity events, corresponding to standard (normal) type of risk, and low frequency, high severity events, corresponding to extreme risk. Finally the fourth criterion distinguishes between the risk variable expressed in monetary values and risk variable expressed in time units. Using these criteria the most common groups of risk measures are discussed. The final part of the paper gives a synthetic discussion on model risk which is a risk resulting from the erratic model used in a real world. In the paper three main sources of model risk are presented and the methods to evaluate model risk are given.

The article aims to assess risk for substantiating the economic and organizational efficiency of construction in the context of ecologic safety. A quantitative risk estimation was made through the Monte Carlo way for negative and positive choices to avoid ecological harm. The simulation algorithm imitated the distribution obtained from the evidence-based fit. The outcomes of a sensitivity investigation are also prepared to verify the suggestion. This risk analysis technique has a digital computer implementation. The simulation data outputs demonstrate the alternative of the general norm of validation and the acceptance of the solution, which is not harmful to the environment. In situations of uncertainty, the decision to select the optimistic flavor with high spending (to retain the reliability of the technics) but less risk pretends to be a decisive factor in the eco-friendly protection strategies of the construction project.
