Opis:
This paper deals with performance of the 50 kVA three-phase converter built with switches based on SiC MOSFET and anti-parallel Schottky diodes. In contrast to popular IGBT converters, a negative switch current is capable of flowing through the reverse conducting transistor, which results in different distribution of power losses among the devices. Thus, equations describing the conduction power losses of the transistor and diode are improved and verified by means of circuit simulations in Saber. Moreover, a comparison of power losses calculated with the use of standard and new equations is also shown. Total power losses in three SiC MOSFET modules of a 50 kVA converter operating at 20 kHz are up to 30% lower when reverse conduction is taken into account. This shows the importance of the discussed problem and proves that much better accuracy in the estimation of power losses and junction temperatures of SiC devices may be obtained with the proposed approach.

Opis:
A high dynamic range moduli set { 2 2n , 2 n + 1, 2 n − 1, 2 n + 3, 2 n − 3} has recently been introduced as an arithmetically balanced five-modull set for the residue number system (RNS). In order to utilize this moduli set in applications handling signed numbers, two important components are needed: a sign detector, and a signed reverse converter. However, having both of these components results in high-hardware requirements, which makes RNS impractical. This paper overcomes this problem by designing a unified unit that can perform both signed reverse conversion as well as sign detection through the reuse of hardware. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first attempt to design a sign detector for a moduli set that includes a {2 n 3} moduli. In order to achieve a hardwareamenable design, we first improved the performance of the previous unsigned reverse converter for this moduli set. Then, we extracted a sign-detection method from the structure of the reverse converter. Finally, we made an unsigned reverse converter-to-sign converter through the use of the extracted sign signal from the reverse converter. The experimental results show that the proposed reverse convertor and sign detector result in improvements of 31% and 28% in area and delay, respectively, as compared to the previous unsigned reverse convertor with sign output using a comparator.

Opis:
The increased power density, reduced switching losses with minimum electromagnetic interference (EMI), and high efficiency are essential requirements of power converters. To achieve these characteristics, soft power converters employing soft switching techniques are indispensable. In this paper, a ZCS/ZVS PWM AC/DC converter topology has been emphasized, which finds applications in high power systems such as automobile battery charging and renewable energy systems. This converter scheme maintains zero current and zero voltage switching conditions at turn on and turn off moments of semiconductor switches, respectively and soft operation of rectifier diodes that lead to negligible switching and diode reverse recovery losses. Moreover, it improves power quality and presents high input power factor, low total harmonic distortion of the input current (THDI ) and improved efficiency. The validity of theoretical analysis of the proposed converter has been carried out experimentally on a 10 kW laboratory prototype. Experimental results prove that the soft switching operation of the semiconductor switches and diodes is maintained at 98.6% rated load efficiency. In addition, the performance evaluation has been performed by comparative analysis of the proposed converter with some prior art high power AC/DC converters. Efficiencies of the proposed and prior art high power topologies have been determined for different load conditions. The highest efficiency, power factor and lower THDI of the proposed converter topology complies with international standards.

Opis:
The paper presents a realization of the scaled residue reverse converter for the low cost moduli base {2n -1,2n ,2n+1} . The moduli of this type allow for the memoryless reverse conversion using the Chinese Remainder Theorem because the orthogonal projections can be obtained by shifts and additions. Moreover, the modulo reduction of the sum of projections and sign detection algorithms are shown. Also the converter architecture is presented.
