    Over a period of about 12 years a research program on silo structures was going on in Germany, financed by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. One of the subjects studied was the straining of silo structures in case of dust explosions, which often occur in silo plants. This was done by experiments and theoretical analysis. The first and third authors were engaged in this project. A few years later a very large silo structure was erected, where the third and second authors served as check engineers. A short report is given on the basic results obtained in the research and their application at the large silo plant, where in the meantime a dust explosion has occurred.

    Th is experiment explored relationships between individuals’ levels of political knowledge and ability to spot manipulated media information about international aff airs as well as susceptibility to infl uence by such information. Th e context of the study was the “Orange Revolution” in Ukraine. A convenience sample of 146 students at a large American university was randomly assigned to read one of three simulated New York Times news reports, experimentally manipulated to favor either the Ukrainian government, the opposition, or a balance of political views. Analysis revealed few signifi cant relationships between level of political knowledge and spotting manipulation in news reports. Instead, trust in the New York Times explained a majority of the variance. Also, political knowledge wasn’t associated with susceptibility to manipulation. Interestingly, a majority of participants who spotted manipulation nevertheless accepted standpoints the manipulated articles promoted.

    Chociaż rodzice odgrywają niezwykle ważną rolę w profilaktyce wykorzystywania seksualnego dzieci (WSD), to ich poglądy na temat zapobiegania temu zjawisku i ochrony przed nim nie zawsze są uwzględnianie w piśmiennictwie. W niniejszym badaniu jakościowym przeanalizowano przekonania 24 australijskich rodziców dotyczące WSD, czynników ryzyka i metod zapobiegania oraz roli rodziców w profilaktyce, a także podejścia rodziców do ochrony własnych dzieci. Ustalenia badawcze przypisano do pięciu tematów: a) konceptualizacja (rozumienie) WSD, uwodzenia dzieci przez sprawców oraz ryzyka WSD; b) prowadzona przez rodziców edukacja o WSD; c) przekonania rodziców na temat edukacji dotyczącej WSD; d) zdolność dzieci do rozpoznawania wykorzystywania seksualnego i przeciwstawiania się sprawcom; e) odpowiedzialność rodziców za zapewnienie dzieciom ochrony. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, że rodzice dysponują dużą wiedzą na temat WSD i jego czynników ryzyka. Mimo to nie przekazują swoim dzieciom wyczerpujących komunikatów profilaktycznych zalecanych przez kampanie prewencyjne, a wielu z nich koncentruje się na zagrożeniach związanych z porwaniem dziecka. Ta rozbieżność między wiedzą rodziców a treścią ich komunikacji z dziećmi może wynikać z przekonania rodziców, że edukowanie dzieci na temat wykorzystywania seksualnego może pociągać za sobą pewne szkodliwe skutki (takie jak wywołanie u dziecka nowych lęków lub obaw czy nieufności wobec innych) oraz że ta metoda może być nieskuteczna w ochronie dzieci przed wykorzystywaniem seksualnym. Niniejsze badanie uzupełnia dostępne piśmiennictwo przez dostarczenie informacji, które mogą być przydatne w projektowaniu programów służących włączeniu rodziców w ochronę dzieci przed wykorzystywaniem seksualnym, a także poprzez analizę problemu wykorzystywania seksualnego z perspektywy uznającej doniosłą rolę rodziców w ochronie dzieci.
    Although parents are essential to child sexual abuse (CSA) prevention efforts, their views on prevention and protection are not always represented in the research literature. In this qualitative study of 24 Australian parents, beliefs about CSA, its risk factors, prevention methods, and parents’ role in CSA protection, and parents’ approaches to protection of their own children, are examined. Findings were condensed into five themes: (a) parents’ understanding of child sexual abuse, grooming and risk; (b) parent-led CSA education; (c) parents’ beliefs about CSA education; (d) children recognizing and resisting CSA; and (e) parent responsibility for protection. Findings suggest that parents have a good knowledge of CSA and its risks. However, they do not provide their children with the comprehensive prevention messages recommended by prevention campaigns and many concentrate on abduction dangers. This gap between knowledge and parental communication with children could be due to parents’ beliefs that there may be harms associated with education of children about CSA (e.g., such as inciting new fears and worries or reducing trust in others) and that the method may not be effective in protecting children from CSA. This study adds to the existing literature by presenting information that could be useful in designing programs to include parents in CSA protection and by approaching CSA research with parents as thekey agents in the protection of children.

    To resist is to fight against the Forgetting ; it's to build its own Identity The principal aim of this paper is to examine two novels of the caribbean writter Maryse Condé, Moi, Tituba sorcière noire de Salem and Les derniers rois mages. I will analyse in these how notions of both personal and collective cultural identity are explored so as to overcome the old perception of Négritude and Panafricanism. Many of her novels embrace the idea of searching, her protagonists are often on some type of quest and searching for an authentic homeland. Much of her work revolves around the notion of asking questions, but not necessarily providing answers, and reflecting on the history of her people. On different levels, Condé does not allow her work to be limited by boundaries of any type. That´s her own way to resist.

    Opis:
    The aim of this paper is to evaluate the fatigue resistance of austenitic nodular cast iron and to compare it with other types of nodular cast irons. The austenitic nodular cast iron, used for the experiments, was alloyed by 13% nickel and 7% manganese (EN-GJSA-XNiMn13-7) to obtain an austenitic matrix. The microstructure was studied using light metallographic microscopy. Mechanical properties were investigated by tensile test, impact bending test and Brinell hardness test. Fatigue tests were carried out at sinusoidal cyclic push-pull loading at ambient temperature. The results of fatigue tests were compared with the fatigue properties of ferrite-pearlitic nodular cast iron and pearlite-ferritic nodular cast iron. Experimental results show that NiMn-type of austenitic nodular cast iron has lower tensile strength and hardness, but higher elongation and absorbed energy than the compared types of nodular cast iron. However, austenitic nodular cast iron has lower fatigue limit.

    In this work we report on the process integration of crystalline praseodymium oxide (Pr2O3) high-k gate dielectric. Key process steps that are compatible with the high-k material have been developed and were applied for realisation of MOS structures. For the first time Pr2O3 has been integrated successfully in a conventional MOS process with n+ poly-silicon gate electrode. The electrical properties of Pr2O3 MOS capacitors are presented and discussed.

    This article casts a harsh light on the literary and plastic work of two Moroccan painterswriters : Mohammed Kacimi and Mahi Binebine. It will show their creative writing (poetry and fiction) and plastic is an act of resistance. This study therefore a double challenge. This is firstly to show that the story proffered on behalf of Scheherazade, in the poetic work of Kacimi is pacifist and « anti-war », secondly to see how each of novelistic characters becomes Binebine – it double the male narrator of One Thousand and One Nights.

    By this study, we conducted a reflection on an aspect of literary resistance. To resist denial towards “The Arab” killed in Camus’s novel “The Stranger”, The Algerian journalist and writer Kamel Daoud writes a chronic : Against Meursault or the "Arab" double shot, and a novel : The Meursault investigation. We examined the transaction from chronic to novel and found that the resistance discourse unfolds on a very complex dialogic space. Indeed, there is a generic dialogue between the chronic and the novel, and self-dialogue between the journalist's work and that of the writer. This dialogism allows a clear view of the act of resistance.

    James S. Coleman proposed the power of a collectivity to act as a measure of the ease with which the individual interests of one member can be transformed into the collective action of a voting body, or into decisions being undertaken by that body which go against the interests of the voters. It was also to be applied in simple voting games, for which the vote threshold was set at a lower level than the majority of votes. Coleman based his model for determining the power of a collectivity to act on the classical definition of probability. In practice, the index is calculated as a quotient of the number of winning coalitions and of all possible coalitions which can be formed by the players – under the existing voting rule. The central hypothesis of the article has as its premise that in proper, simple nperson voting games the Coleman index does not determine passage probability, but only the probability of drawing a winning coalition from the set of all possible combinations of members of the voting body. A new index has also been proposed which should serve to determine a collectivity’s power to act.

    W pracy zaproponowano zastosowanie współczynnika oporu penetracji wody M lub promienia ekwiwalentnego kapilary re do scharakteryzowania zdolności materiału do przeciwstawiania się wnikaniu wody. Opisano metodę wyznaczania tych wskaźników bazującą na wynikach eksperymentu, polegającego na monitorowaniu jednostkowego wchłaniania wody przez próbki materiału. Jako próbki zastosowanowyroby wapienno-piaskowe wyprodukowane w trzech przedsiębiorstwach. Przeprowadzono statystyczną analizę wpływu trzech jakościowych czynników charakteryzujących właściwości technologiczne przedsiębiorstw na wartość współczynnika M. Pokazano, że dane porozymetrii rtęciowej nie mogą być zastosowane do wyznaczania współczynnika M. Opisano procedurę wyznaczania średniego promienia kapilar z uwzględnieniem ich krętności.
    The evaluation of the water penetration resistance coefficient M and the porous equivalent radius re is proposed in this work to evaluate water penetration resistance in calcium-silicate material. The method of these parameters evaluation was described, based on the results of capillary pooling test. The specimens were prepared out of calcium-silicate goods from three manufacturing enterprises. The statistical analysis of the effect of three technological factors on the value of the water penetration coefficient M was also conducted. Moreover, it was shown that the mercury porosimetry data must not be used to evaluate water penetration coefficient M. Procedure of calculation of the mean conditional radius of capillary considering its tortuosity was also described.

    This article addresses the question of willingness to defend one’s own country and a similar notion of resistance, should Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia be attacked. The study principally relies on quantitative data from a dedicated nationally representative survey across all three countries. The data acquired thereof reaffirm findings from previous studies concluding that the highest level of willingness to defend one’s own country is in Estonia, while it is lower in Latvia and in Lithuania. Asked if and how respondents would resist in case of an attack, more willingness to resist either non-violently or violently was expressed by respondents in Lithuania, ahead of the number of willing to do so in Estonia and more so in Latvia. Demographic background of the respondents visualized and discussed in the article provides further nuances of both research questions. While situation with the willingness to defend Estonia is relatively comfortable, this should not be treated as a reason for complacency. There is still room for progress within some groups of the society. Meanwhile, valuable lessons could be drawn for policies of Latvia and more so of Lithuania to avert some of the less flattery trends identifed in this study.

    The project dealing with the development of additional plates for bullet proof vests protecting against 7.62 mm rifle armour piercing ammunition B-32 was carried out in the Institute in 2006. Many samples of plates made from ceramic composites were tested to prepare initial tactical-technical specifications in 2007 and manufacture a testing lot of plates. The initial tactical-technical specs are presented in the paper.

    The present considerations are devoted to the principle of a democratic state governed by the rule of law laid down in the Constitution of the Czech Republic of 1992: the way the principle is presented, its guarantees and protection that the Constitution provides for the essence of the state of law and the consequences of this regulation for both social and political life as well as for the development of the doctrine of constitutional law with respect to that issue. It is especially important that, apart from the declaration that the Czech Republic is a democratic state governed by the rule of law (Article 1 (1)), there is an additional reservation stipulating that any amendments violating this principle are impermissible (the eternity clause) and legal norms may not be interpreted in the way allowing such changes (Article 9 (2) and (3)). Moreover, other provisions of the Constitution connected with the principle are analysed, especially the rule that the majority decision-making shall take into consideration the interests of the minority (Article 6) and the citizens’ right to resist formulated expresis verbis (Article 23 Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms).
    Niniejsze rozważania poświęcone są zawartej w tekście Konstytucji Republiki Czeskiej z 1992 roku zasadzie demokratycznego państwa prawnego: sposobowi konstytucyjnego ujęcia tej zasady, jej gwarancjom i ochronie, jaką konstytucja udziela istocie państwa prawnego oraz konsekwencjom takiej regulacji, zarówno dla życia społecznego i politycznego, jak i dla rozwoju doktryny prawa konstytucyjnego w tym zakresie. Szczególne znaczenie ma bowiem – obok deklaracji, że Republika Czeska jest demokratycznym państwem prawa (art. 1, ust. 1) – dodatkowe zastrzeżenie, iż w konstytucji nie mogą być dokonywane zmiany naruszające istotę tej zasady (tzw. klauzula wieczności), ani w tym kierunku interpretowane normy prawne (art. 9 ust. 2 i 3). Ponadto poddane zostały analizie także współgrające z tą zasadą inne przepisy konstytucji, zwłaszcza zastrzeżenie, iż podejmując decyzje większość respektuje prawa mniejszości (art. 6) oraz wyrażone expressis verbis obywatelskie prawo do oporu (art. 23 Karty podstawowych praw i wolności).
