The development of the scientific thought In accounting in Poland has been analyzed against the background of socio-economic, cultural and legal determinants. The starting point for the analysis has been provided by the following four approaches to classification of the theory of accountingi (1 ) desire to create representation of true profit, (2 ) demand for information of users (receivers), (3) information economics, (4) socio-economic accountability. The last-mentioned approach has been considered the most fruitful from the viewpoint of developing the methodology of accounting in the future,

Zakład Fizyki Cieplnej ITB istnieje formalnie od 1961 roku, choć działalność w tej dziedzinie prowadzona była w Instytucie już wcześniej. W początkowym okresie istnienia działalność Zakładu związana była głównie z doświadczalnym określaniem przewodności cieplnej materiałów i oporu cieplnego przegród oraz wilgotności ustabilizowanej materiałów; prace te od początku związane były z normalizacją ochrony cieplnej budynków. W drugiej połowie lat sześćdziesiątych oprócz prac doświadczalnych podjęto pierwsze prace związane z modelowaniem matematycznym wymiany ciepła budynku z otoczeniem. Od drugiej połowy lat osiemdziesiątych zaczęto rozwijać w Zakładzie Fizyki Cieplnej symulacje komputerowe przewodzenia ciepła, a ostatnio również sprzężonego transportu ciepła i wilgoci. W okresie minionych kilku lat Zakład znacznie się wzmocnił, jeśli chodzi o kadrę i posiadany warsztat badawczy, m.in. w związku z niedawną rozbudową budynku zakładu. Jest to dobry moment do prezentacji obecnego stanu Zakładu i tematyki badawczej, jak również potrzeb i perspektyw rozwoju. Problematykę związaną z laboratorium omówiono w odrębnym artykule w tym samym numerze kwartalnika.
Department of Thermal Physics of ITB exists formally since 1961, although activity in this field has been carried out in the Institute already earlier. In the initial period the activity of the Department was connected mainly with experimental determination of thermal conductivity of materials and thermal resistance of external envelopes as well as residual moisture content of materials; those tasks were from beginning connected with standardization of thermal protection of buildings. In second half of 60., despite the experimental work, first tasks connected with mathematical modeling of heat transfer between building and its environment were undertaken. Since second half of 80. computer simmulation of heat transfer, and later on also simmulation of coupled heat and moisture transfer, has been developed. In the period of last several years Department of Thermal Physics strengthened much with consideration to staff and testing possibilities, including recent extension of laboratory building. It seems to be very good moment for presentation of the present state of Department and its research problems, as well as of needs and perspectives of development.

The fundamental research conducted within the Department of Climatology of the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies (previously Institute of Geography) at the Warsaw University concerns primarily the climate of Poland. Tnis theme is contained in the research plans of the department since 1952. The theme would only undergo modifications as to its more precise formulation, referring frequently to the fresh currents in climatology. The research in the domain of climate of Poland was initiated by Professor Romuald Gumiński, the first head of the Department of Climatology of the Institute of Geography at the Warsaw University (1951-1952). The main research directions taken up at the Department of Climatology under the leadership of Professor Wincenty Okołowicz (the head of the Department in the years 1953-1973), with considerable assistance from Ass. Professor Zofia Kaczorowska (who worked at the Department between 1951 and 1972), include: 1. The structure and regionalisation of the climate of Poland, 2. The climate of the north-eastern Poland, 3. The climate and bio-climate of towns. The primary object of research at the Department is nowadays constituted by the problem of natural and anthropogenic changes in the climate of Europe, with special consideration of Poland. Within this domain attention should be paid to such subjects as: 1. Empirical models of spatial and temporal variability of climate, 2. Periodical changes of climate and their causes, 3. Secular trends in climate changes, 4. Anthropogenic climate changes, 5. Forecasts of changes in the climate of Poland in the 21 st century. All of these research problems are being approached through both individual and team projects. The most important results of the teamwork include, first of all, the 14 volumes of the Alias of interdependencies of the meteorological and geographic parameters in Poland (in Polish), published in the years 1974-2000. A sui generis synthesis of the individual work on the climate of Poland is constituted by the two issues of "Prace i Sudia Geograficzne", published (in Polish) under the titles of New methods of inquiry inio the climate of Poland ( 1997) and From the study of the climate of Poland 91998). The first of these issues was published on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Department, while the second - to commemorate the 100th anniversary of birth of Professor Romuald Gumiński.

Działalność Zakładu Badań Ogniowych obejmuje problematykę bezpieczeństwa pożarowego budynków z uwzględnieniem nośności konstrukcji, reakcji na ogień materiałów budowlanych, ewakuacji i rozwoju pożaru oraz rozprzestrzeniania produktów pożaru w budynku. Fundamentem pracy Zakładu jest baza laboratoryjna. Zakład powstał w 1974 roku, lecz podstawy działalności badawczej uzyskał dopiero w połowie lat osiemdziesiątych. W ostatnich latach w Zakładzie są rozwijane kierunki zmierzające do kompleksowej oceny bezpieczeństwa pożarowego przy zastosowaniu symulacji komputerowych. Ważnym obszarem działalności Zakładu jest współpraca z ISO, CEN, EGOLF i wprowadzanie nowych metod, norm CEN oraz klasyfikacji.
Activity of Fire Research Department includes the problems of fire safety of buildings, with taking into consideration the construction stability, reaction to fire of building materials, evacuation and fire development, as well as spreading of fire products inside the building. The foundation of Department's work is its laboratory basis. Department came into existance in 1974, but the bases of its research activity it obtained not earlier than in the middle of eighties. In recent years, the directions aiming at complex assessment of fire safety on the base of computer simulations are developed. The important area of activity is international cooperation with ISO, CEN, EGOLF and introducing of new methods, CEN standards and classification.

Przeanalizowano nowe zasady finansowania nauki w Polsce. Wskazano główne przyczyny, uzasadniające konieczność wprowadzenia zmian w dotychczasowym systemie. Wymieniono zadania, jakie mogą być finansowane ze środków budżetowych przeznaczonych na naukę oraz główne kryteria ich wyboru. Opisano strukturę Rady Nauki jako organu opiniodawczo-doradczego ministra do spraw nauki.
New principles of financing scientific research in Poland are analysed. The main reasons for necessary changes in the existing system are indicated. Tasks that can be financed from budget resources allocated to scientific research as well as the main criteria for their selection are listed. The structure of the Council for Science, the consultative and advisory body to the Minister of Science and Information Society Technologies is presented.

Artykuł został przygotowany i wygłoszony podczas jubileuszu 30-lecia Wydziału Agroinżynierii Akademii Rolniczej w Krakowie. Na tle Ośrodka krakowskiego przedstawia stan i perspektywy rozwojowe kadr naukowych w krajowej inżynierii rolniczej a w konsekwencji pozycję tej dyscypliny w krajowym środowisku naukowym. Pokazuje także perspektywiczne kierunki badawcze o znaczeniu zarówno epistemologicznym jak i aplikacyjnym. W końcowej części zawiera problemy dydaktyczne jako kierunku kształcenia kadr inżynierskich dla rolnictwa.
This article was prepared and delivered at the 30th Anniversary of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at Agricultural University in Kraków. It presents status and growth perspectives of post graduate resources on national agricultural engineering scale, and as a result a position of this science within the national scientific environment. It also shows the perspective research trends within the meaning of epistemology as well as applications. The final part discusses educational problems based on directions of educational courses of engineering resources for the need of agriculture.

WILANOW - PARK-PALACE RESTORATION
Opis:
The titular conference presented the outcome of interdisciplinary research conducted by the National Heritage Board of Poland relating to the park-palace premises of Wilanów (2003- 2008) and its comparison with studies into assorted historical estates in Europe. The participants discussed the Wilanów programme, the technicalaspects of its realisation, and the results of architectural, archaeological and archival studies. The outcome of research performed in the United Kingdom was presented by Brian Dix, a specialist in garden archaeology and a consultant of English Heritage, and Dr. Lucy Worsley, curator of Historic Royal Palaces. Other foreign speakers included: Brian Kerr (UK), Moses Jenkins (Scotland), Emanuela Zanda (Italy), Jozsef Laszlovsky (Hungary), and Vlodimir Gerich (Ukraine), as well as Polish researchers collaborating with the Museum Palace in Wilanów: professors Andrzej Koss and Zbigniew Myczkowski together with Piotr Szpanowski. Considerable attention was paid to such issues as methods of treating historical estates, the boundaries between conservation and restoration, and the purposefulness of including archaeological studies into revalorisation programmes. The prime conclusion drawn from the debate was that regardless whether the finally selected method involves conservation or restoration, the decision should be always made with due thought and be based on the results of a meticulous archival survey and complex interdisciplinary studies.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to describe the notion of telework and show the most popular aspects of telecommuting. Detailed review of the literature points out that there is no one, widely accepted definition of telework. Thus, for the purpose of this article, telecommuting is defined as “Every sort of money-gained activity, caused by external motivation of the individual and/or induced by the organization, no matter what is the extent of time spent on teleworking. What is very important is the fact that teleworking is connected with fulfilling the obligations in a flexible way, outside the conventional workplace, with the use of available telecommunications or computer-based technology to transport it’s effects”. Further investigation of the literature shows that 3 aspects are being the most popular among telework researchers: 1) demographic and psychological characteristic of telecommuting individuals, 2) causes of teleworking, 3) outcomes of teleworking, such as: increased productivity, organizational loyalty, satisfaction and high morale, decreased level of stress and positive work-life balance. Majority of the surveys have got plenty of methodological limitations, thus the results are not to be generalized on wider population. Moreover, obtained data varies in different studies, so that telework with all it’s aspects needs further investigation. At the end of the article there are proposed new directions for the future research.

Management of companies in the era of globalization and integration of market economy becomes a very complex issue, calling for knowledge of rules, methods and marketing instruments.
