In this essay I will analyse selected aspects of the process of arranging traditional space in the face of the challenges of modernity. Progressive globalisation, cultural changes, social transformations-all these processes have influenced the ways local communities manage their territory. I will mainly deal with the phenomenon of reterritorialisation, focus on how identification with territory is reinforced in local communities. I will show how cultural legacy, characteristic of a given region, shapes particular versions of locality and globalisation.The role of ethnicity in these processes is of special interest. Is ethnic identification still taken into account in social strategies embedded in the processes of globalisation? In the first part I argue that modernity introduces irreversible changes to the character of existing and ethnically defined space. The second part includes arguments supporting the thesis about the necessity of adjusting to modern strategies of region management, which must entail partially giving up territorial identity protection. In spite of this, in the process of ethnic construction of a region, space seems to constitute a social framework which determines points of reference for collective action and conceptualisation of new reality

Sieć bibliotek publicznych w Lewisham w Londynie składa się z 13 filii, do których należą 3 biblioteki publiczne: Lewisham Library, Downham Library, The Library of Deptford Lounge oraz 10 bibliotek społecznych: Catford Library, Blackheath Village community library service, Crofton Park community library, Forest Hill community library, Grove Park community library, Manor House Library, New Cross Community Library, Pepys Community library service, Sydenham community library service and Torridon Road community library. W artykule przedstawiono proces restrukturyzacji, któremu poddana została sieć bibliotek publicznych w Lewisham w Londynie. Reorganizacja bibliotek przyczyniła się istotnie do: zmiany ich funkcjonowania, spłaszczenia struktury organizacyjnej, wyznaczenia elastycznych stanowisk pracy, zwłaszcza tych związanych z obsługą użytkowników oraz utrzymania specjalistycznych etatów. Proces restrukturyzacji wpłynął także korzystnie na wzrost elastyczności samej organizacji, nawiązanie i rozwój współpracy z innymi bibliotekami, urzędami oraz grupami społecznymi.
Lewisham Libraries in London consists of 13 branch libraries, amongst which there are 3 council’s libraries: Lewisham Library, Downham Library, The Library of Deptford Lounge and 10 community libraries: Catford Library, Blackheath Village community library service, Crofton Park community library, Forest Hill community library, Grove Park community library, Manor House Library, New Cross Community Library, Pepys Community library service, Sydenham community library service and Torridon Road community library. This article describes the restructuring processes which Library and Information Service in Lewisham Borough of London has gone through. The reorganisation changed the way in which the Library and Information Service is structured substantially, introducing a flatter organisation and flexible job roles, increasing the front-line service, and maintaining key professional roles. As a result, it allowed for flexibility and growth, to support developments through increased collaboration with other library services, other council departments, and with community groups.

The aim of the paper is to assess the impact of the territorial division on the finances and activity of Polish local government units (LGUs). The basis for such an assessment was both an analysis of changes in the administrative division and an analysis of statistical data. The authors have drawn some conclusions concerning changes in the administrative system. The most important recommendation is to decrease the number of local government units, which would lead to reducing disparities in their financial capacity. Although the paper focuses mainly on the basic LGU (municipality), it also mentions the problem of powiats and voivodeships in the current shape.

Opis:
An analysis was made of the production of fuel wood chips and associated logistics operations in the Wejherowo Forest District in the years 2000-2017. Detailed observations of the fuel chip harvesting process and an analysis of the supply chain were made in the context of socioeconomic changes. In addition, the total cost of production was calculated and the price of 1 m3 of fuel chips in the years 2009-2017 was analysed. As a result of socioeconomic changes, seven variants of the forest fuel chip supply chain were observed in the years analysed. The unit production cost of forest fuel chips was 25 USD per m3. The average price of 1 m3 of forest fuel chips in the analysed period was 30 USD.

Change of society priorities and lifestyles in the XX century displaced the industry from metropolitan urban centers, leaving behind swaths of abandoned sites. Thus, the theme of old industrial building transformation becomes incredibly relevant and widespread. Zmiana priorytetów i stylu życia w XX wieku spowodowała przeniesienie przemysłu z centrów miast, który pozostawili po sobie zaniedbane poprzemysłowe pustki. W tym czasie, rekonstrukcja starych budynków przemysłowych stają się niezwykle istotne i popularna. Artykuł bada możliwości przekształcania istniejących budynków dawnego przemysłu w celu dostosowania ich do aktualnych potrzeb miasta.

Organizacja czasu pracy podlega ciągłemu doskonaleniu. Zarówno naukowcy, jak i praktycy proponują różne techniki i zasady organizacji pracy. W latach 90. rozpowszechniona została koncepcja Lean (na bazie założeń Lean Toyota System z lat 50.). Koncepcję implementowano w wielu obszarach przedsiębiorstwa, w tym także w gospodarowaniu czasem pracy. Celem niniejszej publikacji było przedstawienie postępu zmian w organizacji czasu pracy na przykładzie sektora hutniczego w Polsce. Praca składa się z dwóch części: analitycznej i teoretycznej. Zakresem analizy objęto szeregi czasowe zmian gospodarowania czasem pracy w sektorze hutniczym. Część teoretyczna, studium literaturowe, obejmuje prezentację założeń koncepcji Lean Time Management.
The organization of working time is subject to continuous improvement. Both scientists and managers propose different principles and techniques of work organization. In the 90s, it was spread the concept of Lean (based on assumptions Toyota Lean System from the 50s). The rules of lean were implemented in different business areas, for example in working time management. The aim of this publication is to present the progress of changes in the organization of working time on the example of the steel sector in Poland. The paper consists of two parts: theoretical and analytical. The scope of the analysis included time series changes in the management of working hours in the steel sector. Recenzowana książka Tomasza Kozłowskiego, Koniec imperium MSW. Transformacja organów bezpieczeństwa państwa 1989–1990, jest pierwszą publikacją zwartą poświęconą w całości procesowi transformacji systemowej w resorcie spraw wewnętrznych Polski z lat 1989–1990. Opisano w niej uwarunkowania, przebieg i efekty tego procesu. Autor w krytyczny sposób zweryfikował potoczne wyobrażenia na temat przejścia od Służby Bezpieczeństwa i Milicji Obywatelskiej do Urzędu Ochrony Państwa i Policji. Podczas tworzenia publikacji wykorzystał mało znane bądź niedostępne wcześniej źródła historyczne. Recenzowana pozycja ma istotne znaczenie dla poznania i zrozumienia nie tylko przesłanek i mechanizmów reorganizacji resortu spraw wewnętrznych, lecz także mechanizmów całego procesu transformacji ustrojowej w Polsce.
The book under review here, Koniec imperium MSW. Transformacja organów bezpieczeństwa państwa 1989–1990 by Tomasz Kozłowski, is the first book-length publication devoted entirely to the transformation in the Polish apparatus of internal affairs in 1989–1990. It covers the background, course and results of that process. The author offers a critical verification of popular ideasabout the transition from the Security Service and the Citizens’ Militia to the Office of State Protection (UOP) and the Police. The publication features little-known or previously unavailable historical sources. The book has a major significance for understanding not just the premises and mechanisms of reorganization in the interior apparatus but also the mechanisms of transformation in Poland as a whole.
