Opis:
Remote controlled laboratories had a great push during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, they were already out there but lacking in visibility. This external trigger pushed the academy to face a global challenge to start offering remote experiments more consistently and maturely. Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) has been offering several remote experiments since 2000 but with the need for an update due to technological aging. As such, the framework for remote experiments in education (FREE) was created based on new web technologies. In addition to the most diverse experiments that had already been developed, FREE includes two experiments that aimed at advanced-level physics students: the Langmuir probe and the electromagnetic (EM) cavity. Both allow users to configure the various parameters and to access the results in real time or check back later. All this access is done using a browser (on a PC or mobile phone) without the need to install additional software. The results of an experimental execution are stored in a database and are downloadable, allowing users to do various analyses and to determine the corresponding plasma density and temperature. In this paper, we will introduce how FREE was used in the implementation of both experiments and give an insight into their didactic approach, such as: (i) how to perform an experimental execution, (ii) the typical data set obtained with, and (iii) the corresponding analysis necessary for the user to retrieve information from it.

After widespread use of work-from-home (a.k.a. ‘remote work’) during the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations intend to continue or expand its use into the future. This paper presents a literature review and results from an original survey, both of which point to key considerations for planners and managers. Subjects that are highlighted include: giving remote workers access to job-related information they need; recognizing that certain types of tasks may be more challenging to manage in WFH, such as loosely specified tasks and those involving substantial change or newness; and issues that arise in regard to morale and motivation.

E-booki mają swoją ugruntowaną pozycję w sieci, ich rozwój ilościowy w postaci monografii naukowych, podręczników, słowników, publikacji encyklopedycznych pokazuje dynamikę skali przedsięwzięcia. Tworzą kolekcje wspierające proces naukowo-dydaktyczny uczelni. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie oferty e-booków wybranych zagranicznych dostawców polecanych przez biblioteki politechnik w Polsce w okresie pandemii (lockdownu). Uwzględniono zdalny dostęp spoza akademickiej sieci komputerowej, bazy e-booków na licencjach krajowych i dostępy testowe do e-booków w ofertach dostawców ujętych w licencjach krajowych oraz dostawców polecanych przez biblioteki. Czas pandemii pokazał, jak ważny jest zdalny dostęp spoza akademickiej sieci komputerowej do e-booków: ułatwiono w skali kraju zdalny dostęp do e-zasobów na licencjach krajowych, w dostępach testowych dostęp do bogatej oferty e-booków zapewniły Ebsco i Elsevier – spośród firm ujętych w licencjach krajowych, z pozostałych wydawców najwięcej bibliotek udostępniło czasowo e-booki Taylor & Francis, De Gruyter i MIT.
E-books have an established position in the network, their quantitative development in the form of scientific monographs, textbooks, dictionaries, encyclopaedic publications shows the dynamics of the scale of the project. They create collections supporting the scientific and didactic process of the university. The aim of the article is to present the offer of e-books of selected foreign suppliers recommended by the libraries of the Polish university of technology during the pandemic (lockdown). Remote access outside the academic computer network, e-book databases in national licences and test accesses to e-books in offers from providers included in national licences and providers recommended by most libraries have been included. The time of the pandemic has shown the importance of remote access to e-books from outside the academic computer network: national remote access to e-books under national licenses has been facilitated, while test access to a wide range of e-books has been provided by Ebsco and Elsevier – among companies under national licenses, the largest number of other publishers have temporarily provided e-books by Taylor & Francis, De Gruyter and MIT.

The transport safety is a property of the transport process (movement of individuals and/or goods), characterized by absence of danger to life and health of individuals [1,2,10]. This process should represent a high reliability and safety. The measure of safety is certainty that components of the transport process will remain intact during operation, except for natural changes due to ageing and wear. To ensure a sufficient safety level, it is vital to employ the electronic transport systems which aim is to increase the safety of transferred individuals and goods. The electronic transport systems are designed to detect the threats that occur during the transport process (for both stationary and moving objects). This article presents influence of the electromagnetic interferences within vast railway area on the electronic transport systems with one transmission bus. These electromagnetic interferences are able to completely compromise the electronic system, induce the voltage in the transmission buses or in other components of the system and trigger the alarm (higher probability of false alarm). While operating the transport safety system, full spectrum of electromagnetic interferences should be taken into account. Due to complex behavior of the electromagnetic waves during penetration (propagation), influence of the electromagnetic interferences requires separate analyzes for different frequency bands.

This paper presents the implementation of a universal intermediate server for the monitoring of industrial devices using the Modbus TCP protocol. The application provides selected information using the HTTP protocol accepted by web browsers. The software configuration and sample pages generated by the server are described. The results of the Modbus TCP interface performance tests are presented.
W artykule przedstawiono realizację uniwersalnego serwera pośredniczącego w procesie monitorowania urządzeń przemysłowych wykorzystujących protokół Modbus TCP. Aplikacja udostępnia wybrane informacje za pomocą protokołu HTTP akceptowanego przez przeglądarki internetowe. Zaprezentowano możliwość konfiguracji oprogramowania oraz przykładowe strony generowane przez serwer. Przedstawiono wyniki testów wydajnościowych połączenia Modbus TCP.

This paper aims at presenting innovating automatic of mobile robot’s drive laboratory built in Institute of Mechanical Engineering (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering/Military University of Technology). This laboratory is dedicated to e-learning of PLC programming.

A variety of network management systems is commercially available. Celem artykułu jest analiza możliwości wdrożenia różnych form wsparcia procesu nauczania przez narzędzia zdalne na przykładzie projektu „PIT Mobilne studia podyplomowe we współpracy z przemysłem” finansowanego z Europejskiego Funduszu Społecznego. Obejmuje on dwa kierunki technicznych studiów podyplomowych realizowane w formie blended learning na Wydziale Mechanicznym Politechniki Krakowskiej w latach 2013-15. W artykule przedstawiono nowoczesne możliwości rozwoju studiów podyplomowych o profilu technicznym dopasowanych zarówno do potrzeb studentów, jak i współczesnego rynku pracy. Zastosowane metody badawcze to: analiza krytyczna źródeł literaturowych, case study oraz analiza badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych na uczestnikach studiów podyplomowych w ramach ewaluacji projektu.
The aim of the article is to analyze the possibility of implementation of various forms of learning support such as remote access tools on the example of the project ‘PIT Mobilne studia podyplomowe we współpracy z przemysłem’ (PIT Mobile postgraduate studies in collaboration with industry), financed by the European Social Fund. The project includes two technical postgraduate programs realized in the form of blended learning at the Cracow University of Technology Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in the years 2013-15. The article presents a modern opportunities postgraduate studies tailored to the needs of students and the contemporary labor market. The research methods used are: a critical analysis of literature sources, case studies and analysis of the survey conducted on the participants of postgraduate studies in the context of project evaluation.

W artykule przedstawiono metody i środki dostępu do specjalizowanych środowisk laboratoryjnych na przykładzie stanowiska urządzeń sieciowych. The paper presents the methods and means of access to specialized laboratory environments on the example a network devices laboratory. The possibilities of virtualization of network devices stand are presented and own method of remote access to the network devices test stand are presented. With this approach it is possible to implement computer network laboratory classes in the form of distance learning.

The paper presents the design and the rationale behind a simple verification protocol for autonomous verification modules, and the architecture enabling use of such modules. The architecture assumes strict separation of all personal metadata and the actual verification data. The paper also describes a prototype implementation of the protocol and its extension enabling the state of the module to be monitored from the main system. The proposed design solves the problem of using advanced verification methods, especially biometric ones, in systems where direct implementation is not possible due to hardware incompatibilities, insufficient resources or other limitations.

W artykule przedstawiono system pomiarowy do wyznaczania, na odległość za pośrednictwem Internetu, charakterystyk czujników temperatury w Laboratorium Miernictwa Wielkości Nieelektrycznych. System zawiera: komputer, termostat cieczowy wraz z umieszczonymi w nim czujnikami temperatury, termostat o stałej temperaturze, multimetr Agilent 34970A z 16-kanałowym multiplekserem 34902A oraz kartę interfejsową USB/ GPIB służącą do połączenia przyrządu z komputerem. Komputer jest wyposażony w kartę sieciową z przydzielonym numerem IP.
A measuring system for remotely determining, by means of the Internet, the characteristic of temperature sensors in the Laboratory of the Nonelectrical Quantities Measurements is described. The system includes: a thermostat with adjustable temperature, a thermostat with a constant temperature, measuring instrument Agilent 34970A with a 16-channel multiplexer 34902A, a USB/GPIB interface card, which connects the instrument and a local computer (Fig. 1). The computer is equipped with a network card with an assigned IP address. The system was con-structed according to the client-server architecture (Fig. 2). The software for the system was written in LabVIEW 7.0 programming environment. Client communication with a server takes place by means of the DataSocket technology, which uses the TCP/IP protocol. The configuration of the DataSocket is shown in Fig. 3. A client program is used to communicate with the server and to create a user interface. The main panel of the client application for tem-perature sensor measurements is shown in Figs. 4 and 5. A server program is used to communicate with the client and to service the measuring instrument. The Main Panel of the server application shows the actual measured results and instrument state (Fig. 6). To create the servicing program the Instrument I/O Assistant of the LabVIEW program was used (Fig. 7). The realized measuring system will be used during the Sensor Fundamentals and Nonelectrical Quantities Measurements lectures.

The paper introduces the need of improving skills level of students using Internet network. The solution has been discussed on an example with remarks for the medical diagnostic devices. The laboratory, which is not large enough, for performing all needed training courses, can be provided the trainee after their main work hours. The elaborated solution is supported by various training interfaces, provided by standard Learning Management System (LMS) and the applications controlling machine called Multimedia Applications Management Shell (MAMS). The example platforms were supported by networking Debian Linux services and an open-source technology that is used freely, by many developers.
