Opis:
We propose a new approach to producing the qubits in electron ballistic transport in low-dimensional structures such as double quantum wells or double quantum wires. Next, we examine the possibility to produce quantum entanglement in the framework of the Jaynes-Cummings model and shown that at least in principle, the entanglement can be achieved due to series of "revivals" and "collapses" in the population inversion due to the interaction of a quantized single-mode EM-field with a two-level system.

Opis:
In this work we studied the charge carriers behaviour in quantum structures where the symmetry with respect to space coordinates and time-reversal symmetry are broken simultaneously. As the model of such structures we considered finite semiparabolic quantum well (we considered earlier the case of triangular QW) placed in external magnetic field. We have shown by numerical analysis that the energy spectra of charge carriers in such structures are anisotropic with respect to in-plane (transverse) motion $ϵ_{n}( + k_{x})$ ≠ $ϵ_{n}(-k_{x})$. This leads to the anisotropy of charge carriers in-plane momentum transfer which, in its turn leads to the anisotropy of photoconductivity $σ( + k_{x})$ ≠ $σ(-k_{x})$ and as it follows from our calculations, the effect though not very great, could be measurable for the magnetic field of about few T.

Opis:
The influence of intersubband mixing in quantum wells of semiconductors with zinc-blende structure is studied both experimentally and theoretically. A multiband magnetoexciton model is described which takes into account k∙p mixing between valence subbands and the effective Coulomb interaction for an arbitrary confinement potential shape. Theoretical results reproduce very well the photoluminescence excitation spectra of GaAs/AlGaAs single quantum wells of various widths. In particular, the characteristic avoided crossing between the lowest light-hole exciton Landau level and excited heavy-hole exciton Landau level occurring at σ¯ polarization is accurately described by our theory.

Opis:
The coherent population trapping effect in double tunnel-coupled quantum wells is analyzed. One of two quantum wells interacts with the two-frequency laser radiation and low-frequency field, thus forming a closed contour of excitation. It is possible to control the excited level population in such a scheme of excitation by changing relative phases of the fields in the coherent population trapping state. The quantum well is bound to the other quantum well by tunnel coupling of the excited levels, therefore the population and optical properties of the other quantum well depend on the coherent population trapping state in the first quantum well and can be controlled.

We report on growth and magnetooptical studies of two types of novel CdTe/CdMgTe quantum well structures having a precisely controlled grading of either the quantum well width or the donor concentration in a direction perpendicular to the growth axis. The presence of two-dimensional electron gas of varying concentration produced by the graded modulation doping was evidenced by observation of negatively charged exciton-electron complexes (X¯).

Opis:
Binding energies of excitons in quantum well structures have been studied by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation where the potential is made up by the confining quantum well potentials of arbitrary form and the Coulomb interaction between the electron and hole. The problem is solved without the usually assumed variational procedure and the separation ansatz for the confined electron and hole states. The wave functions for electrons and holes can be extracted from the exciton wave function and are used for the interpretation of the charge localization.

Opis:
Radiative intersubband plasmon polaritons in multiple quantum well structures, with arbitrary number of quantum wells, are discussed theoretically. The dispersion relations are derived modeling multiple quantum well structure by uniform uniaxial effective medium and using a full set of the Maxwell equations for macroscopic (local) electromagnetic fields. Numerical calculations are performed for a "GaAs-GaAs/AlGaAs multiple quantum well-air" structure corresponding to a typical total internal reflection geometry. Manifestation of these modes in total internal reflection spectra is also considered.

An interaction between the signal wave propagating in a planar waveguide and a photorefractive grating is analysed. The waveguide contains an AlGaAs/GaAs multiple quantum well guiding layer biased with an external electric field applied along the wells plane. The grating is formed by two external beams interfering in the multiple quantum well layer. The dependence of the steady-state grating properties on the external waves parameters and applied electric field intensity is presented. Possible application of the grating as an optically controlled Bragg reflector with memory is analysed.
