Opis:
The market system is imperfect from the point of view of improvement of quality of life, the basic components of which are: population health, education, quality of human resources, environmental safety, etc. The market is not focused on manufacturing socially important goods, it has no perfect economic mechanism for securing environmental safety. The search of new ways of economic development has led to recognition that only quality of life can express to the greatest degree the society purposes, as well as the competitiveness of the countries in the world market. Among obvious defects, preventing to determine of problems of the quality of life in Russian Federation, there are: insufficient normative and legal space in the sphere of evaluating quality of life, poor estimation of the development purposes and directions, and poor economic support. For solving each task, it is necessary to develop a socio-economic program with a corresponding financial maintenance, as well as the criteria of estimating the advancement of these programs to the planned purpose – which is the maintenance of the quality of life.

Opis:
Drawing on Simone de Beauvoir’s call for a change perspective on old age, as perceive, this article reviews the literature for factors and aspects that influence the quality of life of the elderly. Simone de Beauvoir saw old age as the individual’s unending struggle with the indifference that elderly people encounter, and with pain and illnesses. The improvement in the situation of the elderly cannot be accomplished by merely raising pensions and providing fair housing; rather it is necessary to have a more profound change – a change of life (de Beauvior, 1996). Hence, improving the quality life of elderly people necessitates a more holistic approach, that considers physical functioning, mental, social, environmental and cognitive condition in addition to traditional aspects involving health and economic aspects.

Aim. The aim of the article is to look for an answer to the question of whether it is worthwhile to deal only with happiness and to leave the exploration of quality of life as something which is not viable, or if it makes sense to deal with both phenomena. If so, what is the relationship between them? At the same time, we ask ourselves whether happiness and quality of life are perceived equally by people and are therefore interchangeable. Results. The answer is also confirmed by measuring the number of published articles monitored in the Web of Science. The quantification of happiness and quality of life implies that their correlation is high but not so high that they can be identified as the same. At the same time, if happiness and quality of life are different phenomena, it makes sense to deal with both. Method. The research was conducted using the face-to-face interview method. Conclusion. Happiness and quality of life, in terms of attention given to them by researchers, are quite different.  We think mistakenly that they are the same on account of the preponderance of impression given to happiness in public space.

Purpose: The tools for measuring objective quality of life include research regarding the conditions of a successful life and life satisfaction. Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by progressive degradation and loss of articular cartilage as well as abnormal bone growth and remodeling, located directly under the cartilage. The aim of this study is to answer the question on which level OA patients perceive their quality of life dependent on health. Material and methods: The Polish version of the HAQ questionnaire, assessing the quality of life over the past week, was used for overall assessment of quality of life. The Polish version of the AIMS-2 questionnaire was used as a specific questionnaire for assessing the health status of patients with osteoarthritis. Surveys were conducted in a group of 240 people. Results: The quality of life dependent on health is significantly reduced in the group of healthy people who take painkillers sporadically because of other reasons and in the OA pateints group compared to the control group, the same as in the OA pateints group compared to the group of healthy people who take painkillers sporadically for other reasons. Conclusions: According to the answers from the questionnaire, patients with OA seek different forms of improving their quality of life. It is important to change their lifestyle (weight reduction, using a bench-mounted bike, walking stick or walking frame), reducing the surface area of the joints, reducing the defective position of the limb axis. Exercises that increase muscle mass and exercises to improve joint mobility should be introduced. It is advisable to refer the OA patient for physical therapy and/or balneotherapy.

Introduction: Inguinal hernias are the most commonly presented abdominal hernias with approximately 20 million people operated annually throughout the world. Severe chronic pain after hernia repair effects social life, daily activity and overall quality of life. The Short Form-36 is (SF-36) a validated indicator of overall health status. Studies have shown that the reliability of the SF-36 is exceeding 0.80. Aim: Our aim of study is to determine the effect of unilateral open mesh repair by using SF-36 on pain control and quality of life of patient. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out at Indus Hospital Karachi from 1st April 2018 to 10th September 2018. 88 patients were enrolled in this study according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A written and informed consent was taken from all of them. After surgery they were sent home on painkillers. They were called at 4 weeks and were required to fill a pre designed questionnaire Short form-36. Results: Results showed that out of the 88 patients enrolled in this study 35 (39.8%) experienced mild pain, 37 (42%) experience moderate pain and only 16 (18.2%) experienced severe pain. Quality of life was satisfactory in 72 (81%) and unsatisfactory in 13 (14.7%). Conclusion: Hence it is concluded that post operatively patients experienced better physical functioning and emotional role functioning whereas their perceptions about their general health and energy were satisfactory. Hernia surgery should be offered to all the patients with a clinically detectable hernia.

Opis:
Artykuł przygotowano na podstawie wyników European Quality of Life Surveys.
An aim of considerations is to present the selected objective and subjective determinants of the quality of life of elder people. The article is of the research nature. An object of the analysis is, inter alia, an overall assessment of satisfaction with life as well as various aspects thereof and the declared level of happiness. The article was prepared on the basis of findings of the European Quality of Life Surveys. In the research proceedings, there were also used the selected items of the literature available in the form of books and articles. The results of the carried out analyses indicate that individuals from the group 50+ are less satisfied with their life than younger people; hence they also declare lower sense of happiness. Among various aspects of life, elder people are the most satisfied with their family life and housing conditions. On the other hand, the low level of satisfaction refers to their health condition and assessment of the economic situation of the country. The analysed age group is also characterised by quite an often occurrence of negative emotions and relatively seldom of positive ones. Among many reasons for such feelings, of a substantial importance are economic determinants producing the elderly problems with covering of all current expenses with the incomes they receive, what causes anxiety and fear of their financial security.
European Quality of Life Surveys.

Opis:
Research background: Quality of life is viewed as the degree of people's satisfaction of various needs, especially including material, spiritual, safety-related needs and life aspirations. The aspects taken into consideration are economic, spatial, environmental and cultural ones. Quality of life is therefore determined by various conditions in which a human lives and the source of which is the hierarchy of needs and a value system. At the same time, quality of life can be viewed in terms of collectivity (objective aspect) and an individual's evaluation (subjective aspect). The former view shapes the existing living conditions and the latter results from the satisfaction from a specific person's life, experiences and ambitions. The multidimensionality of the quality of life categories translates into difficulties in defining and measuring it, and constitutes an interesting research object. Purpose of the article: The purpose of the article is to diagnose and evaluate the variety of the quality of life in Polish voivodeships, in objective terms by building a synthetic measure allowing for estimating inequalities in the quality of life of regional communities. It was assumed that quality of life will be characterised by indicators grouped into the following areas: material living conditions, economic activity, health, education and living environment quality. Methods: The main method used for measuring quality of life is the linear ordering based on Z. Hellwig's taxonomic measure which allows for organising voivodeships in terms of the quality of life of communities. Additionally, the cluster analysis (Ward's agglomerative grouping method) was used, which allowed for distinguishing voivodeships similar in terms of the analysed phenomenon. Findings & Value added: During the realisation of the research goal, special attention was paid to the complexity of the quality of life issue and its measurement in terms of economy and rather important varieties in voivodeships were emphasized. The conducted analysis allowed for distinguishing groups of regions with the highest, high, low and the lowest quality of life.

The aim of this study was to analyze the quality of life (QOL) of 142 primary school teachers and 145 firemen-rescuers. To determine QOL we used a WHOQOL-BREFF questionnaire. Teachers’ QOL was significantly lower in all four domains when compared with firefighters’ QOL; however, it did not differ statistically from the Czech population norms. Significantly lower compared to the norm was only teachers’ satisfaction with their health. Our results showed a significant influence of profession, age and gender on QOL. The influence of subjectively perceived mental stress as a factor reducing the QOL was manifested only in teachers. The explanation for this difference in QOL could be predicting better physical and mental health of firefighters.

Objectives: To investigate the association between neck pain and psychological stress in nurses. Material and Methods: Nurses from the Avon Orthopaedic Centre completed 2 questionnaires: the Short Form-36 (SF-36) and 1 exploring neck pain and associated psychological stress. Results: Thirty four nurses entered the study (68% response). Twelve (35.3%) had current neck pain, 13 (38.2%) reported neck pain within the past year and 9 (26.5%) had no neck pain. Subjects with current neck pain had significantly lower mental health (47.1 vs. 70.4; p = 0.002), physical health (60.8 vs. 76.8; p = 0.010) and overall SF-36 scores (56.8 vs. 74.9; p = 0.003). Five (41.7%) subjects with current neck pain and 5 (38.5%) subjects with neck pain in the previous year attributed it to psychological stress. Conclusions: Over 1/3 of nurses have symptomatic neck pain and significantly lower mental and physical health scores. Managing psychological stress may reduce neck pain, leading to improved quality of life for nurses, financial benefits for the NHS, and improved patient care.

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most frequent arrhythmias. In Poland, there is a risk of developing AF in about 400,000 people. Atrial fibrillation occurs most frequently as a result of disorders of physiological automatism and afterdepolarization and triggered activity. The treatment strategy of AF is based on pharmacological treatment and procedures such as ablation or cardioversion. The quality of life as defined by the WHO is an individual perception of one's well-being. On the other hand, the assessment of the quality of life in illness is modified regarding health problems. Purpose: The main goal of the study was to get to know the quality of life of people with atrial fibrillation. Materials and methods: The research was carried out using a diagnostic survey, based on a survey among 100 patients diagnosed with AF. The place of the research was the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska, in the Emergency Department. Results: Increased morbidity was observed among women and people over the age of 60. The majority of patients with AF declared the quality of life at the medium level. The respondents most often followed medical recommendations. The majority of respondents did not follow healthy lifestyle rules, because as many as 68% of respondents did not do any physical activity and a significant part of the respondents smoked cigarettes and had an inflated BMI. Conclusion: AF affects the quality life by causing sadness, irritation and insomnia.

The purpose of this thesis is the comparison of some chosen aspects of life quality of elderly people that are chronically ill and reside uder institutional care or stay at their own homes. Research covered 100 seniors, ages from 65 to 92, including 50 patients of the Nursing and Therapeutic Institution in Nowy Targ and 50 ill and elderly people staying at their homes and using home rehabilitation. 50 men and 50 women were interviewed. To carry out the research I used the diagnostic survey method. The quality of life of the subjects was evaluated by means of the standard WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Three other standard questionnairies were also used in the research: the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Tinetti’s Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA) and the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living scale (IADL). ZOL’s members rated lower satisfaction with quality of life and their health, compared to seniors staying in homes under the care of their families. In the study groups, significantly higher quality of life in four areas was found in the group of seniors living in their own homes compared to the seniors living in ZOL. Based on the research results it was found that the evaluation of quality of life of elderly people significantly depends on the environment they live in.

Opis:
Psychosocial functioning and depression is associated with a wide range of impacts on adolescents’ quality of life. In Nigeria, studies assessing the importance of psychosocial functioning and depression in distinguishing between the categories of quality of life and classifying adolescents into these categories have been limited in literature. This study investigated the domains of psychosocial functioning and child depression that significantly distinguish between the categories of quality of life and also classify into these groups. Data for 2019 adolescents aged 10-19 were obtained in a Benue State cross-sectional study. Preliminary analyses on their socio-demographic information were performed using descriptive statistics. Differences between categories (groups) of Quality of Life (low, moderate and excellent) on the basis of the attributes of the adolescents in terms of their psychosocial functioning and depression status, indicating which attributes contribute most to group separation were investigated using discriminant analysis. Chi-square analysis was used to assess the association between socio-demographic characteristics of the adolescents and levels of Quality of Life. The inter-relationships between the domains of Quality of Life and the adolescents age, position in the family, domains of psychosocial functioning and child depression status was assessed using correlation analysis. Prosocial behaviour (F=82.41, p<0.001) and ineffectiveness (F=31.19, p<0.001) were strong significant discriminating variables that predict adolescents’ levels of total quality of life. Adolescent’s psychosocial functioning and depression status relates with their physical health, psychological health, social relationship, environmental health and total quality of life.

Design/methodology/approach: The method used in the paper is create a synthetic indicator designed using a taxonomic method and the estimation of the logistic regression model. Data of the Central Statistical Office concerning the years 2014-2018 were used in the calculations. Findings: The obtained values of the TMR (Total Material Requirement) indicator suggest that in the Kielce poviat the quality of life of the residents of individual municipalities is very diverse. At the same time, a common positive tendency is observed, manifested in the trend indicating an improvement in the quality of life in each of the municipalities in the examined period. The constructed indicator was used to estimate the regression model for cross-sectional data from 2018. Originality/value: The estimated models allowed to formulate conclusions concerning the impact of particular explanatory variables on the diagnosed level of quality of life in the surveyed municipalities.

Introduction. The peri-menopausal period is the time of many biological, psychological and social changes. The quality of life of women in this period may be conditioned by many factors, and analysis of these factors may indicate the optimum directions of prophylactic and educational actions. Objective. Analysis of selected predictive factors of the quality of life of women in the peri-menopausal period. Materials and method. The study covered 268 peri-menopausal women. The qualification criteria were: age 45–55, lack of mental disorders and diseases requiring hospitalization during the period of study. The study was conducted using standardized instruments: Women’s Health Questionnaire – WHQ, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and an author-constructed questionnaire. Results. The presented study of the quality of life showed that the women examined felt physically unattractive, lacking the full joy of life, and frequently experienced somatic complaints. Nevertheless, the respondents enjoyed life, had no constant feeling of anxiety and concern. Multi-factor analysis showed that the quality of life in the group of women in the study was affected by the following factors: level of depression, self-reported state of health, occurrence of menopausal symptoms, education level, and marital status. Conclusions. The quality of life of the peri-menopausal women examined was the highest with respect to depressive mood (DEP) and anxiety/depressed mood (ANX), while it was the lowest with respect to the sense of attractiveness (ATT), and somatic symptoms (SOM). In addition, in the group of women in peri-menopausal period the quality of life was conditioned: level of depression, self-reported state of health, occurrence of menopausal symptoms, education level, and marital status.

Background: Quality of life is a subject of research by representatives of various fields of science, including psychology, sociology, economics, and medicine. The results of some previous studies show that the quality of life of elderly people is related to their health behaviors. The aim of the study was to assess the relationships between the quality of life, considered in general and in detail, and health behaviors of healthy and ill elderly people from the Opolskie Voivodeship (Poland). Methods: 105 people (81 women and 24 men) participated in the study, including 61 patients and 44 healthy people, aged from 60 to 89 years. The average age of respondents was 71.2 ± 6.4 years. The main research method was the diagnostic questionnaire survey. The Health Behavior Inventory and R. Cummins's Comprehensive Quality of Life Scale were used. Results: The study results showed that the average value of the health behavior index in healthy respondents was significantly higher than in patients. The analysis of particular categories of health behaviors revealed that healthy persons declared normal eating habits more often than patients. The mean value of the general quality of life index was significantly higher in healthy respondents than in patients. Health status also significantly differentiated the quality of life in favor of healthy individuals in the domains of health and intimacy. In the analyzed group of respondents, health behaviors significantly determined the quality of life of patients only. The odds that the quality of life of patients are above average were greater in patients with average and higher health behavior indices than in patients with low health behavior indices. Conclusion: Measures of quality of life improvement should also be aimed at increasing the prevalence of health behaviors in the elderly.

The aim of the study was to examine the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of the elderly in Poland. Researcher investigated if differences between gender groups were influenced by other variables such as period of ageing („young-old” vr „old-old”) and place of residence (big city, small town, village). The study sample comprised 2565 elderly who were at least 60 years of age. The average age for men was 72,76 and for women 72,39. The health-related quality of life was evaluated using the Polish adaptation WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Respondents rated both quality of life and general health well. Nevertheless the health-related quality of life domains’ rating decreases with age. Women are commonly less satisfied with the WHOQOL-BREF domains. Men living in little towns declared not only a high level of quality of life, but their estimates in the early and late old age are similar. The diversity of health-related quality of life needs further investigation along with a number of more subjective indicators of individual experiencing one’s old age (e.g. sense of one’s time of life or the awareness of age-related changes).

The article is concentrating on the subject matter of the quality of life of probation officers with particular reference to the analyses of meaning of chosen factors shaping her. Besides analysis of literature connected with satisfaction from living as the essential condition of the welfare and characteristics of the work of the probation officer, findings were also presented own. They conducted research in teams of the probative court service by regional courts in the area of the jurisdiction of Circuit Court in Gdańsk. Choice of the court circle was intentional and 73 KSS officers took part in them.Diagnosing the quality of life of officers of the Probative Court Service as well as verifying was the subject of the research relations between variables sociodemographic and organizational and with level of practical satisfaction. Examinations showed that above all social relations and their quality, the sense of security, character of the performed work as well as a lifestyle and the level of practical aspiration influenced the quality of life of probation officers.Probation officers are happier from the whole of Poles, in spite of carrying peculiar professional obligations out by them. They aren't diversifying the level of satisfaction from the life into the significant way predyktory socjodemograficzne and organizational. Findings are showing among others that probation officers which more often work in the environment of charges, are de facto more satisfied than, the ones which perform their duties mainly in the seat of the court.

Quality of life – terminological arrangements
Opis:
Psychological well-being is treated in psychology as a constitutive element of quality of life, expressed in a subjective aspect, determining the satisfaction of the individual with personal life, or also treated as a synonymous term. Most psychological theories focus on the subjective approach, in which quality of life is understood as psychological well-being units (Bartosz, Klebaniuk, 2006; Czapiński, 2008;, Derbis, 2000; Diener, Lucas, Oishi, 2008; veenhoven, 1996, 2005; Zalewska, 2003). In this perspective, various aspects of life are assessed from the perspective of the individual who performs the assessment process using their own individual criteria. Mental well-being indicates an individual experience of contentment and happiness in life. This assessment includes both cognitive judgments about the sense of satisfaction and fulfillment, as well as emotional responses to occurring events. In this sense, psychological well-being is a broad concept that enables people to make judgments about their lives, instead of relying on external quality assessments of their own lives.

The contribution presents the relationship between the frequency of physical activity during the week and fields of life quality of kindergarden teachers in three mature parts. In the research took part kindergarden teachers from Slovakia (n = 211) who were divided into groups according to their ontogenesis. The life quality was observed with a modified questionnaire SQUALA and the physical activity level frequency during the week. The data is presented by descriptive characteristics (n, M, SD) and statistic importance of differences, let us say relationships which are measured by non-parametric methods (W, U, rs), by the importance level (p<0.05; p<0.10). The results showed the most numerous correlations between the physical activity during the week and fields of life quality of teachers in age group from 36-46 years (middle mature) who do the physical activity M: 3.250 during the week by SD: 2.761. In this group were proved positive correlations with the field of physical well-being (p<0.01), psychosocial well-being (p<0.01), material well-being (p<0.01), education (p<0.10), free time (p<0.05), appearance and property of things (p<0.01). Specially this age is characteristic by reaching the highest goals of physical and mental performance. In the groups of younger and older mature we do not find so many important relationships between the physical activity and some fields of life quality. In these groups we did not find any important correlations of physical activity with physical well-being where the group of young mature reached the same level of physical activity as the group of middle mature. The conclusions show the importance of physical activity in life of kindergarden teachers, they show some possibilities of influencing the life quality through the physical activities but also creating the optimal conditions possibilities to increase the life quality in social environment. The contribution is part of the Ministry of Education grant KEGA 014UKF-4/2013 Improving the quality and level of health of adolescents by means of physical activity in primary and secondary schools.

Elderly people are not only more susceptible to disease, but they are also at a higher risk of sustaining accidents such as falls, which definitely affects the quality of human life. Aging, in other words, carries with it an increased danger of illness and injuries, including those caused by falling. Research referred to in this article consisted in collecting and analyzing anonymized data of 411 geriatric patients admitted to a hospital in Berlin, Germany, over a period of six months, between January and June 2020, and attempted to look at how fall prophylaxis can reduce the overall healthcare costs generated by senior citizens. Of the 411 geriatric patients, 105, aged between 49 and 97 (69 females and 36 males), sustained injuries due to falling and made up 34.3% of all geriatric patients. Conclusions that the author arrived at can prove useful to determine the importance of the prevention of falls of older people in reducing the complications resulting from falls. The overall costs of senior citizens' health care were also taken into consideration. Therefore, solutions should be sought to reduce the number of falls of older people. Falls are an important public health problem causing suffering for elderly patients, worsening the comfort of further life and additionally generating relatively high costs for the economy.

Introduction and Objective. Back pain affects specific occupational groups, among which healthcare workers are the most predisposed. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the interdependences between subjective disability and their correlation with pain intensity and quality of life assessment among professionally active medical workers, taking into account working, socio-demographic and health conditions. Materials and Method. The cross-sectional study enrolled 110 professionally active medical workers (nurses, midwives, paramedics and physiotherapists). The study was conducted by a diagnostic survey method using 4 questionnaires: Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), World Health Organization Quality of Life BREF (WHOQoL-BREF), and the authors’ questionnaire. Results. Back pain was reported by 103 respondents (94%) with the lumbar area indicated the most frequently (72.81%). Severe pain every day was reported by 49.51% of respondents and was associated with longer working time. ODI questionnaire confirmed III and IV degrees of disability in paramedics and nurses, who additionally obtained the lowest results in the quality of life assessment. Correlations between age and VAS were demonstrated (p=0.002), and between VAS and ODI pain (p<0.0001) and ODI disability (p<0.0001). Conclusions. Back pain associated with professional activities is the consequence of overload. Health care workers should be included in a preventive programme and attend systematic ergonomics courses. Health care facilities should be retrofitted with equipment enabling work in accordance with the principles of ergonomics. The ODI questionnaire, together with the VAS method and scales for testing the quality of life, are useful tools in the clinical assessment of individuals with back pain.

By now, neither socialist planned economy, nor market economy, nor the noble public environmental movements have brought reliable instruments of managing ecological aspects of the quality of life. Perhaps, it would be helpful to try to use here the methods of the concept of total quality management, so popular in business management. The main aspects of the quality of life management deriving from quality management positions are: priority of consumer requirements, which in our case means that when evaluating any projects, human interests must be considered higher than any system interests; priority of quality, which means rejecting such alternative options as the “consumer society” concept and radically ecological one, and leads to considering life period expectancy as the main target index; managing processes, not product specific- quality; involvement of all the personnel of organization (the whole population); huge role of continuous training; formalization of input and output control, including standardization and certification procedures.

Purpose: To characterize the symptoms of urinary incontinence of women suffering from pelvic organ disorders (POP) and the effect of these problems on quality of life (QoL). Materials and methods: 215 women from rural regions diagnosed with POP were examined. The research implemented the Life Satisfaction Questionnaire (LISAT-11), used to assess quality of life; the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQoL-F) questionnaire, which was employed to assess sexual activity; and the Gaudenz-Incontinence questionnaire, served to assess the occurrence of symptoms of urinary incontinence as well as to define the type of urinary incontinence and its degree of escalation. Results: The average age of the participants was 54.8 years. Most of the participants had urinary incontinence (159; 73.95%). Women with POP and symptoms of urinary incontinence achieved a lower indicator of the sexual function QoL (median - 61.00) when compared to those not suffering from urinary incontinence (median- 78.00). Differences between the groups were statistically significant (p=0.002). The general indicator of QoL for women with symptoms and those without symptoms of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) did not reveal any significant differences between the groups (p=0.643). Conclusions: Urinary incontinence in women with disorders of pelvic floor muscle functions has an insignificant effect on general QoL, whereas it has a decidedly negative impact on sexual function QoL.

Introduction. Diabetes is associated with a lower quality of life (QoL). Insulin therapy is perceived as an additional factor affecting QoL. The objective of this study, using standardized tools, was to evaluate to what extent insulin treatment has an effect on QoL in diabetes. Materials and method. 60 diabetic patients treated with insulin and 90 with oral drugs, all aged over 30, were included into the study. To assess the QoL of patients, SF-36 v.2 and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires were used. In addition, demographic data were collected. Results. Insulin treated patients had a significantly lower Mental Component Score in SF-36 v.2 questionnaire. No significant differences between the two groups were found in the components of physical domain of SF-36 v.2 and in four domains of WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires. Insulin therapy was significantly associated with lower educational level. The strongest association with QoL in both questionnaires was found for professional activity and age. Conclusions. The results of this study indicate the need for psychological support for patients with diabetes treated with insulin to improve their mental coping. Diabetic patients should also be advised to continue their professional activity for as long as possible due to its important role in maintaining QoL.

Opis:
In this study the author has focused on the impact of activeness and independence on the quality of life of seniors. Activeness is taken to mean the participation in regular everyday tasks. Functional independence is independence in everyday life. Quality of life in old age describes the level of satisfaction with life and indicators of successful ageing. The survey was conducted in October 2013 among four groups of seniors. Two variables determined the distribution of respondents: the level of activeness and the functional independence of the seniors. The study involved 99 seniors from Sopot and Gdansk. Functional independence has a much greater impact on the quality of life of seniors than activeness in as much as independence is influenced by our state of health over which we may always have full control, whereas activeness to a large extent depends on ourselves.

Background: Last decade brought changes in trends of most frequently performed types of bariatric procedures. Despite the well-grounded knowledge of bariatric surgery positive impact on comorbidities, life prolongation, cancer risk, depression etc. there is still insufficient data on patients’ quality of life (QoL) after surgery. Methods: In this review PubMed and Scopus databases as well as Mendeley search engine were used for searching publications from last ten years focusing on QoL after LSG. 702 abstracts were reviewed. 13 publications, with 1630 patients in total were finally included. Results: Six different QoL tools were used: SF-36, BAROS, Moorehead-Ardelt II questionnaire, IWQOL-Lite, GIQLI and SF8. In majority of publications QoL was improved. Pre and postoperative assessment with SF-36 showed significant improvement. The mean BAROS score was 5.1-7.1 with 77-96% of patients achieving good to excellent outcomes. In some studies, QoL was better in females and in one study QoL did not achieve results of general population norms. There was no improvement in QoL after LSG in some studies or no correlation between %EWL and health related QOL. Conclusions: There is limited good quality research into QoL after LSG, though quality of life seems to be better after that procedure.

Opis:
The paper discusses the application of tools of multivariate analytical methods i.e., logistic regression, to model the subjective assessment of satisfaction/dissatisfaction with quality of life achieved. Based on empirical data from a random sampling of households in Podkarpacie province, the statistical significance of variables was estimated, which enabled the estimation of the value of life quality based entirely on qualitative variables, that are characteristic for a given household, with incomes being excluded. The essence of the regression is to seek such household related parameters, that could have varying degrees of impact on the occurrence of either negative or positive values. The models have been designed based on varied classification categories for households, thus allowing for both the quantitative analysis and comparison of the impacts of key cardinal determinants of values of life.

Objectives The aim of the study was to analyze the determinants of prison inmates’ personal quality of life (PQoL). Material and Methods Three hundred ninety men imprisoned in penitentiary institutions were assessed. Data were collected by means of the the Sense of Quality of Life Questionnaire, the General Self-Esteem Scale, the Social Support Scale, the Resiliency Assessment Scale, the Trait Personality Inventory, which have high validity and reliability. All models were specified in structural equations modeling using Mplus v. 8.2. Results The positive correlates of PQoL are: self-efficacy, social support, and ego-resiliency. The negative correlate of PQoL is trait depression. The study confirmed that 2 factors affected ego-resiliency: self-efficacy and trait depression. Conclusions All significant factors, such as self-efficacy, social support, ego-resiliency, or trait depression, should be taken into account in rehabilitation programs.

Entrepreneurship impacts on many aspects of social life. It influences—directly and indirectly—the lives of individuals, and thus the quality of life. The objective of the presented article is an assessment of the relation between entrepreneurial stance and quality of life. Analysis is intended to verify the hypothesis that the stronger the entrepreneurial stance the higher the quality of life in subjective, objective, and general dimensions. The empirical basis behind presented data is the result of representative quantitative surveys as well as research on people engaged in eco¬nomic activities. The presented results may prove inspiring for both academics and practitioners concerned with social life. Above all, this may be true in the case of those who want to achieve more in tangible and intangible matters. They may also serve as inspiration to those who are involved in human resource management.

There is a widespread perception that sustainable development is an optimal way of development for the world globally. Sustainability requires a reorientation of global, national and local policies in a way to put the long-term quality of life as a priority. Around the world governments at all levels have been learning how to work with the idea of sustainable development and searching for ways to introduce it into practice. Over the last two decades, there has been an intensive discourse and research about measuring sustainable development. Many initiatives have been undertaken to introduce indicators for monitoring and measuring progress towards sustainability. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the meaning of a category of quality of life for sustainable development from global to a local perspective. It gives recommendations for policymaking and suggestions for future research. The paper reviews key findings, research gaps and also discusses policy implications in terms of the importance of quality of life for sustainable development.

Opis:
Purpose: The paper aims to assess the variation in the environmental quality of life in Poland's voivodships in 2021. The study uses indicators to monitor the links between the natural environment and society. They indicate how environmental conditions affect the quality of life and well-being of the population. Design/methodology/approach: The study used one of the taxonomic methods - the TOPSIS method, based on which the voivodships were divided into four classes characterised by similar levels of environmental quality of life. Findings: The study results showed that Podkarpackie, Lubuskie, Małopolskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodships, characterised by high natural values and relatively low environmental impact ratios compared to other voivodships and the national average, were in the best group due to the environmental quality of life. The last places belonged to the Pomorskie, Opolskie, Łódzkie and Śląskie Voivodships. Most of them are industrial, which means that the indicators of environmental impact, especially air pollution and collected waste, are relatively high and exceed the national average. Social implications: The research results presented in the article may be useful for the diagnosis of current results and the revision of the environmental policy of the entire country as well as their individual regions in the future. Originality/value: The article fits into contemporary debates on the effectiveness of implementing the concept of green economy as a tool for sustainable development.
