Opis:
A source of essential information regarding the behaviour of the soil-reinforcement system can be laboratory pullout tests. In this paper, basic aspects of such testing concerning the equipment used (designed and constructed in the Geotechnical Laboratory of Gdańsk University of Technology) and procedures applied are described. The pullout tests carried out for biaxial polypropylene geogrids embedded in coarse sand are presented. Finally basing on the test results the interpretation procedure for the estimation of elasto-plastic interaction between geogrid and soil is proposed. The method proposed enables determining soil-geogrid interface: stiffness modulus responsible for elastic behaviour of the system in the range of permissible loads, as well as maximum pullout resistance corresponding to limit state.

Calculation of pullout capacity of anchoring concrete cylindrical block by finite element method is carried out. 3D model of the block assumes its free rotation. Alternative solutions with one and two pulling forces attached at different heights of the block are considered. Dependency of the ultimate pulling force on the points of its application, the block’s embedment depth as well as contact friction are investigated. Results of FE analysis and simple engineering estimations are compared. The maximum pullout resistance results from FE analysis when the rotation of the block is prevented.

Opis:
The pullout behavior of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) structures is very complicated and depends on many parameters which related to the backfill soil properties, the reinforcement characteristics and the interaction between them. This paper investigates the pullout behavior of many soil reinforcements under static and repeated loading. Four types of steel reinforcements were studied: Strip, W-shaped, ribbed and punched. The results obtained show that the change of the shape of reinforcement may improve the pullout resistance of MSE structures. Therefore, the best performance was obtained by the ribbed and the punched reinforcements, under static loading as well as repeated loading.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to investigate pullout strength of three types of pedicle screws with and without cement augmentation in osteoporotic bone using finite element analysis. Methods: Twelve 3D finite element models were created to investigate the effect of pullout strength when comparing between pedicle screw types and bone cement clouds. The bottom side of bone block model was constrained and U-shape head was applied 1 mm in direction of longitudinal axis of pedicle screw to perform pullout resistance. The material properties of the FEA was set as linear elastic, homogenous, isotropic condition. The element sensitivity of convergence testing has been performed and variation of the sequential analytical results was less than 3%. Results: The results showed that the maximum total reaction force (133.8 N) was detected in the model of cannulated pedicle screw combined with a central pin with 4 ml cement augmentation, but, in contrast, the minimum total reaction force (106.8 N) was discovered in the model of cannulated pedicle screw without cement. A strong relationship (r = 0.9626) is found in comparison with the biomechanical results between pullout strength of sawbone testing and reaction forces of the FEA. Conclusions: The study concludes that the cannulated pedicle screw can not only provide an inner guider for cement flow and increase bending resistance (deflection effect) when a central pin is selected, but also can improve the pullout strength in the osteoporotic bone to add cement augmentation. The design of the cannulated pedicle screw is suggested for poor bone quality to change pullout failure.

Purpose: The conventional screw is unable to provide enough screw-bone interface strength for osteoporotic cencellous bone, and complications resulting from loosening or failure of the implants remain a significant clinical problem. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate pullout strength and energy in three types of the pedicle screws, including conventional solid pedicle screw, cannulated pedicle screw, and cannulated pedicle screw with a central pin, using osteoporotic sawbone test block with different bone cement volumes through pullout force testing. Methods: The control group (n = 15) of the osteoporotic sawbone test block includes groups A, B, and C to reflect three types of the pedicle screws without bone cement augmentation. The cemented group (n = 45) of the osteoporotic sawbone test block includes groups D1, D2, D3, E1, E2, E3, F1, F2, and F3 to reflect three types of the pedicle screws with PMMA bone cement of 2, 3, and 4 mL augmentation. Results: The results showed that the pullout strength and energy in the cemented group were significantly larger than that in the control group. Moreover, the best performances of the pullout strength and energy in the cemented group were evidenced obviously in the case of cannulated pedicle screw with a central pin with 4 mL bone cement augmentation. Conclusions: This study concludes that cement argumentation in the cannulated pedicle screw with a central pin can increase a pullout strength of pedicle screw for severe osteoporotic patients while bone cement of injective volume is limited.

Opis:
This paper reports results from 1g model tests carried out under single gravity on a skirted foundation installed in sand and subjected to a rapid uplifting force. The effects of displacement rates ranging from 5 mm/s to 450 mm/s on the ultimate capacity, suction pressure inside the skirt compartment, and time of extraction were investigated. Test results indicate that the displacement rate significantly affected the magnitude of uplift resistance, as well as the magnitude of suction under the foundation lid, but had little effect on the relationship between stress and the displacement of the foundation. The shapes of the uplift capacity-displacement curve and the suction-displacement curve were similar for all experimental displacement rates.

A procedure of standard strength tests of reinforcement bars conducted at present at the ITG KOMAG is discussed. Taking advantage of the bibliographic review, concerning tests of reinforced concrete with steel reinforcement bars, a possibility of using the KOMAG testing infrastructure to broaden the scope of tests of reinforcement bars was analyzed. Due to a more and more common use of composite bars for reinforcing and strengthening concrete structures, the methods of testing their strength properties are discussed. The conditions enabling to conduct strength tests of composite reinforced concrete bars at the ITG KOMAG are determined.

Opis:
The numerical analysis was conducted using the FEM ABAQUS software to establish the impact of various undercut anchor diameters on the rock breakout cone formation. The central focus of the investigations was on the rock breakout prism, which tends to be approximated to a cone or a quadrilateral pyramid, including its characteristic parameter, the angle of failure cone . Assuming that the embedment depth and the undercut anchor head angle were constant for the considered range of anchor head diameters, it remains unclear, however, precisely how the anchor head diameter affects the value of the failure cone angle, and thus the surface area of the full breakout prism. This conclusion stands in confirmation of our former considerations regarding the impact of the anchor head angle on the size of the breakout surface. Furthermore, it is supported by the results obtained from the mechanical model simulation of the anchor-rock system, where the anchor head angle and the effective embedment depth were determined as significant factors affecting the assumed rock breakout failure. The underlying aspect of the reported investigation was to evaluate the effectiveness of the non-conventional rock breakout technology performed with an undercut anchor, whose primary factors were both the pullout force and the assumed volume of the rock cone.

Monitoring the stress change of bolt and knowing the anchoring condition in a reasonable and effective way, accurately, can effectively prevent tunnel accident from breaking out. The stress of rock mass around the roadway is usually transferred to the anchor rod in the form of axial load, so it is of great significance to study the axial load of the bolt. In this paper, a full size anchoring and drawing experiment system was designed and established, innovatively, which realized the pull-out test of 2.5 m prestressed end Anchorage and the full-length Anchorage by using the new resin anchorage agent under vertical and horizontal loads. Through the application of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensing technology to the test of full-scale anchor rod, the axial force distribution characteristics of the end Anchorage and the full-length Anchorage anchor rod were obtained under the action of pre-tightening torque and confining rock pressure. The comparison indicates that the proportion of high stress range accounts for only 17.5% and the main bearing range is near the thread end of anchor rod, the proportion of main bearing range of end Anchorage is 83.3%, and the feasibility of FBG force-measuring anchor rod is verified in the field. The research results have certain reference value.

Opis:
In this research work, the bonding characteristics of plasma treated basalt fibres were analysed by employing the fibre pull-out test. 80 samples were prepared with two different spans of basalt fibres (such as 25 mm and 50 mm) and four levels of embedded length (10, 15, 20 and 25) inside standard M20 grade concrete. Debonding and bonding characteristics of the plasma treated fibres were compared with raw basalt fibres through the fibre pull-out test. The plasma treated and raw basalt fibres were characterised through Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. It was observed that confirmation of the presence of hydroxyl groups on the basalt fibre surface was realised through the FTIR test and that there was higher adsorption of concrete particles by the plasma treated basalt fibres through FESEM. The de bonding and fibre pull-out energy of the plasma treated basalt fibres were improved by about 9% and 10% compared with 25 mm and 50 mm raw basalt fibres. From the observation above, it can be stated that the Surface modification of basalt fibre may lead to a change in the debonding and pull-out energy level.
W pracy zostały przeanalizowane właściwości wiązania włókien bazaltowych poddanych obróbce plazmowej. Przygotowano 80 próbek dwóch różnych rodzajów włókien bazaltowych: 25 mm i 50 mm z czterema poziomami zatopionej długości (10, 15, 20 i 25) wewnątrz standardowego betonu klasy M20. Charakterystyki odklejania i wiązania włókien poddanych obróbce plazmowej porównano z surowymi włóknami bazaltowymi w teście wyciągania włókien. Obrobione plazmowo i surowe włókna bazaltowe scharakteryzowano za pomocą skaningowego mikroskopu elektronowego z emisją polową (FESEM) i analizy w podczerwieni z transformacją Fouriera (FTIR). Rozwarstwianie i energia wyciągania włókien bazaltowych poddanych obróbce plazmowej uległy poprawie o około 9% i 10% w porównaniu z surowymi włóknami bazaltowymi 25 mm i 50 mm. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej obserwacji stwierdzono, że modyfikacja powierzchni włókna bazaltowego może prowadzić do zmiany poziomu energii odklejania i wyciągania.
