Opis:
The global pandemic-induced crisis has caused the differences that exist between the sexes in many areas of life to become more extreme. Apart from its influence on mental health, the necessity to adjust to the obligation of social distancing has also influenced the possibilities of students’ development as regards relationships. It has also limited their ability to earn money, which directly affects one’s economic status and other related areas such as the availability of healthcare, etc. This study, which aims to present the psychosocial state of women who have been studying in Poland during the pandemic, shows that it is women, more than men, who have experienced the changes caused by the pandemic, both in the context of how they function and their fears. Life satisfaction amongst female students depends largely on their economic and material independence, and any hardships experienced influence, more often than in the case of men, the emotions that are dominant in women. The results of the study clearly show that in the long run establishing a network of psychological support for women will be necessary as a response to their psychosocial health, which has worsened during the pandemic. Additionally, educated people who, in these difficult times, have not had the possibility to earn money or have had to accept jobs below their competencies (which may also significantly affect their life satisfaction), will be in need of support.

Attractive appearance and athletic figure is an important element of presenting oneself in social interactions. Nowadays, for men and adolescent boys, the model of physical attractiveness is a muscular body with a wide chest and broad shoulders and a narrow waist. Modelling one’s body in accordance with applicable standards has become possible due to the services related to body care, diets and fitness. The authors’ own research presents the importance of the influence of peers on taking physical exercises and a proper diet in order to get an athletic body by adolescent boys. The article also presents the health problems of young people and young men associated with dissatisfaction with the appearance and striving to have a muscular body.

Opis:
The article presents selected research results on differences in self assessed state of health and the role of social class related psychosocial factors that may be responsible for health inequalities. Among discussed variables are: differences in lifestyles, health care utilization patterns and perceived access to health care and social support network. Their relative value to predict health differences is weighted against the role of social position indicators. The empirical base for considering above issues is the representative study of Warsaw inhabitants conducted in 2004.

Opis:
Współczesny człowiek na skutek dynamicznych zmian politycznych, ekonomicznych, społeczno-kulturowych i technologicznych żyje w świecie ciągłego postępu i rozwoju. Nowe możliwości i technologie dzisiejszej cywilizacji z jednej strony ułatwiają życie jednostce niemal w każdym obszarze jej funkcjonowania, z drugiej mogą stanowić zagrożenie dla jej rozwoju.
As a result of dynamic political, economic, socio-cultural and technological changes, modern man lives in a world of constant progress and development. New possibilities and technologies of today's civilization, on the one hand, make life easier for an individual in almost every area of its functioning. On the other hand, they may pose a threat to its development. Clinical observations and empirical reports indicate that the percentage of children and adolescents with various difficulties and psychological disorders is increasing. The article is a review and refers to two reflections. The first one concerns the factors that pose a threat to the mental health of today's children and adolescents. The second one results from the assumptions of health psychology (health promotion and positive prevention) and concerns the role of adults in shaping and strengthening the health of the young generation in the face of contemporary challenges. The aim of the article is, on the one hand, to draw attention to the disturbing contemporary trends, which, in the face of psychological knowledge, can be considered risk factors that may contribute to the increase in disorders in the group of children and adolescents and, on the other hand, to draw attention to the need to shape and strengthen the psychological resilience of the young generation by the impact of the communities closest to them – parents and teachers.

Opis:
The current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is a particular and rare situation. COVID-19 has affected and is likely to affect people from many countries, in many geographical locations. We are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, with cities and even entire countries shutting down. The coronavirus has affected nearly every aspect of our lives, from school to work, to sports, to where we eat and what we do. All these changes affected people physically, but also psychologically. It is understandable that during times like this, people may be feeling afraid, worried, anxious, and depressed due to the constantly changing alerts and media coverage regarding the spread of the virus. Hence, the main aim of our paper is to explore the linkage between the coronavirus COVID-19 disease and mental health conditions, such as stress, anxiety and depression. Everyone may experience fear of the consequences of the infection with a potentially fatal new virus, and might experience mental stress, anxiety, loneliness, depression. Based on experience from past global serious viral experiences, the development and implementation of mental health assessment, support, treatment, and services are crucial and pressing goals for the health response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Human beings have an incredible ability to adapt and survive, through altruistic and co-operative means. So for each one of us is important to look after ourselves and each other.

Culture has a substantial impact on mechanism of coping with stress and related health outcomes. We proposed a model emphasizing the mediating role of coping resources and competences in the relationship between controllability of demands in professional/educational life and health in the cross-cultural context. The model is based on the transactional model of stress. 595 participants from East Germany, West Germany and Poland completed: Sense of Coherence Scale SOC-9, Self-Esteem Scale, Social Support Scale, Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale, Proactive Coping Inventory, Scale of Demands in Professional Life, Brief Stress Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and Mental Health Questionnaire. The results have shown the general cross-cultural validity of the proposed mediational model but also indicated some cultural differences in the determinants of health. Germans had higher self-esteem and social support. Poles had higher selfefficacy and used proactive coping strategies more often. Self-esteem was the strongest predictor of mental health in both nations. We discussed the results within a broad interpretive framework of social transitions.
