Opis:
Increasing energy efficiency will be essential to achieving the climate goals laid out in Euro-pean Union directives. This is particularly true for industries, whose share of heat and energy consumption, using Poland as an example, is about one-third of the total. This challenge has implications both in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2, but also for maintaining the competitiveness of EU countries' industries in the global market. Implementation in industrial processes of energy management systems - EMS, monitoring energy key performance indicators - KPI, is a tool for making informed investment decisions, in increasing energy efficiency of enterprises and industrial processes. There is the Industrial Energy Management System (IEMS), which focuses on energy efficiency in industrial processes, the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) for buildings, such as commercial buildings, and the Home Energy Management System (HEMS), which is becoming increasingly popular for residential users and small properties. The concept of measuring, or rather calculating, the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of a manufacturing process is derived from the broader concept of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in general. The PCF is expressed in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) equivalent units, or CO2-eq. The essence of the PCF calculation is a multifaceted approach to addressing the sources of GHG emissions, from the acquisition of raw materials, their processing with tools and the energy supplied to the process, through the supply chain and transport to the customer. Each of these stages generates a cost in the form of greenhouse gas equivalent (GHG) emissions to the environment, and the sum of these costs is the present carbon footprint (PCF). Typically, the majority of a product's PCF comes from the extraction and pre-processing of the raw material itself.

This review paper focuses on the up-to-date machinability characteristics of milling processes such as cutting forces, surface roughness and tool wear and their impacts on the cutting mechanism. The methodology pur-sued in this paper is to analyze the previous research articles published between 2019–2022 classifying them into the subcategoriesthat usemill-ing operation as manufacturing strategy. As known, milling is one of the most used machining processes in industry and often applied for academic studiesforawide range of materials. Therefore, used sensor systems, main aim and the preferred methodology were summarized in the context of this paper. Seemingly, a great number of machinability papers have been published recently which focuses on the several types of engineering ma-terials and utilized various types of sensor system to improve the surface roughness and tool life. In addition, the investigation showed that optimi-zation approaches have been applied broadly to detect the best machining conditions. Also, it was observed that several modeling approaches such as finite element analysis is a good alternative to analyze the process.

The most recent tendencies and breakthroughs in digital technologies have made it possible to implement a new model of manufacturing. By es-tablishing a digital twin of the real environment and basing their judg-ments on that twin, digital systems are able to monitor, optimize, and man-age the processes that they are applied to. This concept is predicated on the creation of a “Digital Twin” for each individual production source that contributes to the overall manufacturing process. In spite of the fact that different real-world applications of digital twin may involve different tech-nical and operational specifics, a significant amount of work was put in over the past few years to recognize and express principal properties, in addition to the primary challenges involved in the practical implementa-tion of digital twins within related industries. The purpose of this article is to review and analyze the fundamental principles, ideas, and technological solutions that comprise the Digital Twin vision for production processes. As a result, the objective of this review is to provide a synopsis of the state-of-the-art regarding digital twin concepts and to analyze their most recent status in terms of their potential application and implementation.

Opis:
Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a non-traditional machining process widely used in manufacturing to create complex geometries on hard-to-machine materials. The tool material used in EDM plays a crucial role in determining the machining performance and final surface finish of the workpiece. In this research, we aimed to optimize the tool selection for creating circular holes on SG iron (grade 450/12) using EDM. To this end, we employed a step-wise weight assessment ratio analysis (SWARA) based combined compromise solution (CoCoSo) approach to evaluate the performance of different tool materials under various machining conditions. The machining conditions considered in this study included peak current (I), pulse-on time (Ton), and inter-electrode gap (IEG). The results of our study showed that the CoCoSo approach is an effective method for tool selection in EDM, and it can be used to identify the optimal tool material and machining conditions for creating circular holes on SG iron. The final appraisal scores obtained from the ranking of tool materials indicated that copper tools scored highest (2.4767, ranking 1), followed by copper tungsten (2.3615, ranking 2), while brass scored lowest (1.6606, ranking 3). Furthermore, Spearman's rank correlations for different integrated MCDM techniques were performed, which demonstrated the efficacy of this technique. It has been demonstrated that implementing the SWARA-CoCoSo method can effectively optimize the EDM process with regard to sustainable machining practices.

Opis:
Not only as a result of the current energy crisis, opportunities to save energy are a highly focused topic in production. For this reason, the article proposes an approach to evaluate the part-specific energy consumption of production systems by utilization of simulation methods. As an application example, a Comau 6-axis robot is chosen, of which a physically based model is created in the CAE software SimulationX. This model is then exported as a Functional Mock-Up Unit (FMU) and co-simulated within a virtual commissioning environment. Virtual commissioning enables a controller to be connected to a model. Within a Software-in-the-Loop simulation, this is a virtual control system. Based on the movement specifications from the virtual controller, the movement behaviour of the machine can be simulated in the virtual commissioning tool ISG-virtuos and the FMU returns the associated power and energy curve as a result variable. For further use, this kind of enhanced simulation models provides the possibility to optimize the utilization of production systems for specific processes in the context of a complete production line or factory.

Opis:
The main aim of this paper is to improve the heat transfer in a square cavity with a body at the left wall filled with a Al2O3/water nanofluid for different geometries. Numerous simulation experiments are conducted. A relative temperature is maintained at the vertical and top horizontal walls while the bottom wall is warm. The finite volume approach is considered to resolve the equations governing the thermal transfer flow in the physical domain based on the SIMPLER algorithm. In this study, different values of the following parameters are considered: Rayleigh number (104 ≤ Ra ≤ 105) and solid volume fraction (0 ≤ φ ≤ 0.1) of nanoparticles (NPs). Parameters, such as the Rayleigh (Ra) and Bejan (Be) numbers, thermal conductivity, body’s dimensions, and NPs volume fraction, which directly affect the entropy generation and heat transfer rate, are studied in a particular way. The obtained results show that entropy generation goes ahead with the Ra increase and inverse to the solid volume fraction increase. One can notice that the heat transfer has a proportional relation with φ and Ra.

An anthropomorphic robot, i.e. a robot that can reproduce the movements of the human arm, is equipped with various types of interpolation. The problem that has to be solved is the selection of the optimal types of interpolation, as well as the sequence of these robot movements that is able to provide better results higher mixing efficiency, in other words amore sustainable approach to the mixing process, using an anthropomorphic robot. The shaker-type container used the shape of a truncated cone has a positive effect on the efficiency of the liquid mixing process. The difference in den-sity between the two liquids contributes to a sustainable approach to the mixing process. It is preferable to use different shaker position with re-spect to the gravitational acceleration vector and to use different linear and arc interpolation. The use of variable position in relations to gravita-tional acceleration vector, due to the shape of the truncated cone of the mixer, will cause chaotic movement of particles inside the shaker, which is a desirable phenomenon, because then both mixed liquids mix quickly

Opis:
Modeling and simulation are key performance analysis and control techniques to optimize decision-making as well as design and operate complex production systems. They are also indicated as one of the technological pillars of modern industry and IT solutions supporting the implementation of the roadmap toward Industry 4.0 in the areas of digital transformation and automation. In the context of the required rapid transformation of today’s enterprises, it becomes extremely important to look for solutions that allow the use of the existing infrastructure, information, and energy, so as to minimize the negative impact of new technologies and the transformation process itself on the environment. The article presents an approach to modeling large and complex production systems with the use of distributed Petri net models allowing the use of the possessed IT infrastructure as consistent with the idea of sustainable development in the activities of enterprises. This eliminates two major problems that render traditional models unusable. The first is related to the difficulties in analyzing and verifying models of enormous size and infinite space of states. The second is related to the required computing power, if such analyzes are to be performed on one computing unit, which would force the producers to replace the IT infrastructure. For this purpose, modular Petri nets are introduced. Other benefits of modularization, such as smaller components that can be independently analyzed, are also presented in the paper. The proposed modular Petri net has been implemented in the proprietary GPenSIM software. The paper is complemented by a practical example of industrial modeling of production systems with automated guided vehicles (AGVs) using the Modular Model with Intelligent Petri Modules.

Sustainable development encourages companies to anticipate actions that will help reduce their negative impact on the environment, but will also be beneficial to customers in terms of meeting their expectations. Hence, the purpose was to define the actions that can be expected from SMEs from the V4 countries when improving products and minimizing the negative impact on the natural environment. The research tool was a survey, the presented results of which were obtained from March to September 2023. They included 379 SMEs from the Visegrad Group countries, i.e. Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. The results were analyzed using statistical tests performed in STATISTICA 13.3. For this purpose, the ANOVA test (repeated measurement designs) and the Mann Whitney U test were used to analyze statistically significant differences between the test results. Analyzes were performed at the significance level of α=0.05. The analysis showed that entrepreneurs from the V4 countries expect relatively different actions from SMEs when improving products and minimizing the negative impact on the natural environment. The results from the analysis may be useful in planning sustainable activities in SMEs from the V4 countries, so that these activities contribute to improving the quality of products and at the same time minimizing the negative environmental impact.

The use of machines and devices causes their components to wear out, which leads to damage. The easiest and fastest method of repair is to replace this element with a new one. The problem arises when the desired element is not available on the market, technical documentation is unavailable or the costs of acquiring a new element are too high. In such a situation, engineering reconstruction, also known as reverse engineering, is used, which allows for the reconstruction of technical documentation and the production of a new product thanks to additive technology. The article presents the process of reverse engineering and the types of additive manufacturing technology. The aim of the article is to present the possibilities of using the reverse engineering method and 3D printing in the reconstruction of sample machine parts. The work uses the FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) spatial production technology. The relevance of the article is confirmed by the possibility of its practical use in the field of machine servicing support.

Purpose: The aim of the study is to analyze environmental awareness among employees of companies producing plastics, and subsequently to draw conclusions about the level of their pro-environmental awareness. The motive for the implementation of pro-environmental awareness research in plastics-producing plants was their harmful impact on the environment. Design/methodology/approach: The research was a survey that was carried out among 44 workers of plastics enterprises located in south-eastern Poland in the first quarter of 2018. During the selection of companies for research, it was included: their location (south-eastern Poland), long-term operation (more than 30 years), the same type of activity (production of plastics), and whether pro-environmental activities were practiced. Findings: It was concluded that the level of awareness of the employees of plastic industry employees was on a low level. Research limitations/implications: The research sample is only a preliminary sample. It is planned to obtain data from a larger number of companies and verify the data. Practical implications: Enterprises should focus on meeting customer needs and maintaining high-quality products, but taking into account pro-environmental measures that should be a priority. This is possible if pro-environmental awareness is continually shaped. Social implications: The pro-environmental awareness is small among employees from the enterprises, in which pro-environmental actions were not practiced. Employees do not know how the processes are carried out in the company and whether they have any impact on the natural environment. Additionally, the employees of companies not used pro-environmental activities are unaware of the threats resulting from the activities of their company and do not know that other companies about the same activities already apply such activities. Originality/value: These results will allow better decisions in the context of sustainability and improvement actions to achieve a higher level of awareness among the plastic production companies' employees.
