    We investigate whether risky choice framing, i.e., the preference of a sure over an equivalent risky option when choosing among gains, and the reverse when choosing among losses, depends on redundancy and density of information available in a task. Redundancy, the saliency of missing information, and density, the description of options in one or multiple chunks, was manipulated in a matrix setup presented in MouselabWeb. On the choice level we found a framing effect only in setups with non-redundant information. On the process level outcomes attracted more acquisitions than probabilities, irrespective of redundancy. A dissociation between acquisition behavior and choice calls for a critical discussion of the limits of process-tracing measures for understanding and predicting choices in decision making tasks.

    Niniejszy artykuł naukowy ma na celu wyjaśnienie znaczenia badań jakościowych, w szcze¬gólności zaś metody process tracing, w ewaluacji rządowego programu na rzecz aktywności społecznej osób starszych (ASOS). W artykule przedstawiono metodykę zastosowania metody process tracing wykorzystywanej w badaniu studium przypadku oraz warunki, w jakich może być ona użyteczna w określaniu efektów realizacji programu w ramach polityk publicznych. Artykuł został oparty na badaniach przeprowadzonych w ramach projektu naukowego Innovative Social Investment Strenghtening Communities in Europe (InnoSi) finansowa¬nego przez Komisję Europejską z programu Horyzont 2020. W głównej części artykułu zaprezentowano częściowe wyniki badań empirycznych mających formę analizy studium przypadku i obejmujących projekt Aktywni bez względu na wiek w oparciu o metodę process tracing.
    The objective of the paper is to explain the importance of qualitative research, particularly the process tracing method in the public policies evaluation. The article presents the methodology of using process tracing method and the conditions of its implementation in evaluation of public policies programmes. The article is based on research carried out within the research project ‘Innovative Social Investment Strengthening Communities in Europe' (InnoSi), financed by the European Commission in the frames of Horizon 2020 Programme. The main part of the article presents the partial results of empirical research based on the process tracing method, in the form of case study analysis covering the project ‘Active regardless the age'

    The article presents a qualitative method known as process tracing and exemplifies its use in the study of international relations. Firstly, the general characteristics of process tracing are shown. Secondly, the debate in social sciences on the understanding of causal mechanisms and causal inference is discussed, and whether process tracing is useful in testing hypotheses. Thirdly, different types of directives that guide the research procedure within the framework of process tracing are presented. Fourthly, the final part of the article demonstrates the implementation of process tracing in International Relations on the example of the analysis of the end of the Cold War. The article is concluded with a few doubts the method raises. The aim of the article is to introduce a qualitative research method to the Polish studies of International Relations. This method has not been used by Polish researchers, although most of them declare their methodological standpoint as a qualitative approach. The author justifies and illustrates the belief that the method of process tracing can be strongly recommended in solving problems related to the identification of causal relations in International Relations. The author uses the content analysis method in the article. The method of process tracing is presented based on the analysis of the texts of renowned supporters of the method in the Philosophy of Science and International Relations and of works dedicated to the problems of international relations studied using this method. The results of the analysis make it possible to formulate recommendations for the application of the method to study international relations. The author also presents the weaknesses of this method, which every scholar employing it should be aware of.
    W artykule przedstawiono jakościową metodę śledzenia procesu (process tracing) i jej przykładowe wykorzystanie w badaniu stosunków międzynarodowych. Po pierwsze, dokonano ogólnej charakterystyki metody. Po drugie, przedstawiono debatę toczoną w naukach społecznych na temat rozumienia mechanizmów przyczynowych i przyczynowego wnioskowania oraz użyteczności metody śledzenia procesu do testowania hipotez. Po trzecie, omówiono różnego rodzaju dyrektywy kierujące postępowaniem badawczym w ramach metody śledzenia procesu. Po czwarte, w końcowej części artykułu zademonstrowano implementację metody w nauce o stosunkach międzynarodowych na przykładzie analizy zakończenia zimnej wojny. W końcu sformułowano pewne wątpliwości związane z metodą. Celem artykułu jest wprowadzenie do polskiej nauki o stosunkach międzynarodowych jakościowej metody badawczej, która nie jest wykorzystywana przez polskich badaczy, chociaż większość z nich określa swoje stanowisko metodologiczne jako jakościowe. Autor w szczególności uzasadnia i ilustruje przekonanie, że metoda śledzenia procesu może stanowić mocną propozycję w rozwiązywaniu problemów związanych z rozpoznawaniem stosunków przyczynowych w nauce o stosunkach międzynarodowych. Autor posługuje się w artykule metodą analizy treści. Metoda śledzenia procesu została przedstawiona w oparciu o analizę tekstów uznanych zwolenników metody w filozofii nauki i nauce o stosunkach międzynarodowych oraz prac poświęconych problemom stosunków międzynarodowych badanych przy zastosowaniu tej metody. Wyniki przeprowadzonej analizy pozwalają na sformułowanie rekomendacji do stosowania metody do badania stosunków międzynarodowych. Autor przedstawia również słabe strony metody, których istnienia powinien być świadomy każdy z niej korzystający.

    The complex system of decision-making in the Council of the European Union has many specific features which require explanation. This article presents a constructivist approach to this problem and focuses on the influence of socialisation. First, it explains why inquiry into the decision-making in the Council from the constructivist perspective is justified and then proposes the use of process-tracing, a method that allows to trace causal mechanisms linking the effects of socialisation and the characteristics of decision-making in the Council. Second, a typology of socialisation mechanisms and effects is presented. The third section is an attempt to use the inductive variety of process-tracing in order to explain certain qualities of decision-making in the Council. The final section outlines the theory-oriented approach to process-tracing, which could follow from the presented conceptualisation and explains the need to include the constitutive aspects of socialisation within the causal framework of process-tracing research.

    Introduction and aim: The main goal is to identify the basic problems of tracing the manual drawing automatically. Some problems that are waiting for the cartoonist will be presented and explained. The degree of preparation of drawings before the tracing is of the great importance. In this article there will be compared different tracing effects, depending on the quality of the picture. Material and methods: Manual drawing tracing will be made with using of Corel DRAW program. Methods of preparing the drawing to the routing will be presented in GIMP. Results: The output file can be, by the proper preparation methods, error-free (or almost free from errors) and by this it can save a lot of time. Conclusion: The proper preparation of the input file, before the tracing, can significantly shorten and simplify the process of converting bitmaps into vector.
    Wstęp i cel: Artykuł ma na celu wskazanie podstawowych problemów trasowania rysunku odręcznego sposobem automatycznym. Wybrane problemy, które czekają na rysownika, zostaną przedstawione i wyjaśnione. Stopień przygotowania rysunku przed trasowaniem ma szczególne znaczenie, w niniejszym artykule zostaną porównane różne efekty trasowania, zależne od jakości rysunku. Materiał i metody: Do przedstawienia problemów trasowania rysunku odręcznego w sposób automatyczny z wykorzystaniem programu Corel DRAW, posłuży zeskanowany, odręczny rysunek. Metody przygotowania rysunku do trasowania przedstawione zostaną w programie GIMP. Wyniki: Pozyskany plik wyjściowy, dzięki odpowiedniemu przygotowaniu może być zupełnie pozbawionym błędów, lub tylko posiadać je w nieznacznym stopniu. Wniosek: Odpowiednie przygotowanie pliku wejściowego, przed procesem trasowania, może znacznie skrócić i uprościć proces konwersji bitmapy w wektor.
