- The main purpose of this research is to find out how foreign terminology effects on Polish terms in the field of typography and book publication process. The author focuses on etymological aspects of specialist terminology used by printers, type-setters and nowadays desktop publishers. Mentioned terms travelled between European countries along with the technological transfer. To track down all etymological threads and borrowings from foreign languages, author analyzed lexical data from many specialist and professional dictionaries and on-line lexicology bases. Research might be helpful to put in order and understand terms which are often misused according to terminological chaos caused and fixed by careless or literal translations, especially in computer environment. Presented words are only selection from the most popular terms used in publishing process, and should be considered as contribution for further research.
