Opis:
This article presents a synthesis strategy aimed at minimizing the dynamic power consumption of combinational circuits mapped in LUT blocks of FPGAs. The implemented circuits represent the mapping of multi-output functions. Properly selected multi-output functions are described using a new form of the binary decision diagram (BDD), which is an extension of pseudomulti-terminal BDDs (PMTBDDs) in the literature. The essence of limiting power consumption is to include additional parameters during decomposition, such as the switching activity associated with the switching PMTBDD (SWPMTBDD). In addition, we highlight the key importance of circuit optimization methods via non-disjoint decomposition when minimizing power consumption. An algorithm is proposed to assess the effectiveness of decomposition, considering several parameters, such as the number of non-disjoint decompositions as well as that of shared and non-shared bound functions or the switching activity. The results of experiments that demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods are also included.

Opis:
To meet the continuous demand for energy of industrial as well as commercial sectors, researchers focus on increasing the power generating capacity of gas turbine power plants. In this regard, the combined cycle is a better solution in terms of environmental aspects and power generation as compared to a simple gas turbine power plant. The present study is the thermodynamic investigation of five possible air bottoming combined cycles in which the topping cycle is a simple gas turbine cycle, regenerative gas turbine cycle, inter-cool gas turbine cycle, reheat gas turbine cycle, and intercool-reheat gas turbine cycle. The effect of pressure ratio of the topping cycle, the turbine inlet temperature of topping cycle, and ambient temperature on net power output, thermal efficiency, total exergy destruction, and exergetic efficiency of the combined cycle have been analyzed. The ratio of the net power output of the combined cycle to that of the topping cycle is maximal in the case when the topping cycle is a simple gas turbine cycle. The ratio of net power output and the total exergy destruction of the combined cycle to those of the topping cycle decrease with pressure ratio for all the combinations under study except for the case when the topping cycle is the regenerative gas turbine cycle.

Opis:
In commercially available generation III and III+ PWR (pressurized water reactor) reactors, pressure of steam produced in steam generators varies in a relatively wide range from 5.7 to 7.8 MPa. Therefore, it is important to ask which value of steam pressure should be used for a specific unit, taking into account different location conditions, the size of the power system and conditions of operation with other sources of electricity generation. The paper analyzes the effect of steam pressure at the outlet of a steam generator on the performance of a PWR nuclear power plant by presenting changes in gross and net power and efficiency of the unit for steam pressures in the range of 6.8 to 7.8 MPa. In order to determine losses in the thermal system of the PWR power plant, in particular those caused by flow resistance and live steam throttling between the steam generator and the turbine inlet, results concerning entropy generation in the thermal system of the power plant have been presented. A model of a nuclear power plant was developed using the Ebsilon software and validated based on data concerning the Olkiluoto Unit 3 EPR (evolutionary power reactor) power plant. The calculations in the model were done for design conditions and for a constant thermal power of the steam generator. Under nominal conditions of the Olkiluoto Unit 3 EPR power unit, steam pressure is about 7.8 MPa and the steam dryness fraction is 0.997. The analysis indicates that in the assumed range of live steam pressure the gross power output and efficiency increase by 32 MW and 0.735 percentage point, respectively, and the net power output and efficiency increase by 27.8 MW and 0.638 percentage point, respectively. In the case of all types of commercially available PWR reactors, water pressure in the primary circuit is in the range of 15.5−16.0 MPa. For such pressure, reducing the live steam pressure leads to a reduction in the efficiency of the unit. Although a higher steam pressure increases the efficiency of the system, it is necessary to take into account the limitations resulting from technical and economic criteria as well as operating conditions of the primary circuit, including the necessary DNBR (departure from nucleate boiling ratio) margin. For the above reasons, increasing the live steam pressure above 7.8 MPa (the value used in EPR units that have already been completed) is unjustified, as it is associated with higher costs of the steam generator and the high-pressure part of the turbine.

Problems related to power control of low power-output steam turbines are analyzed. These turbines are designed to operate in distributed power generation systems. Principles of automatic control involving a single control valve are presented on the basis of experience gathered with high power-output turbines. Results of simulations of power control for a low power-output turbine are discussed. It has been proven that closing of the control system and an application of a power controller (of optimally selected parameters) improves the object dynamics (shortening of the transition period). At the same time, a lack of such optimization can results in occurrence of undesirable phenomena such as: overshoot in the generator power characteristics, elongation of the response time to disturbance or overshoot of turbine control valves.

Opis:
When it comes to reducing emissions caused by the generation of electricity, among different renewable energy sources, the solar energy gains prominence, due to its geographical availability, simplicity of implementation, and absence of physical moving parts. However, the performance of photovoltaic systems is dependent on environmental conditions. Depending on temperature and solar irradiation, the photovoltaic (PV) system has an operating point where maximum power can be generated. The techniques that are implemented to find this operating point are the so-called maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms. Since weather conditions are variable in nature, the output voltage of the PV system needs to be regulated to remain equal to the reference. Most of the existing studies focus either on MPPT or on voltage regulation of the PV system. In this paper, the two-stage PV system is implemented so that both MPPT and voltage regulation are achieved simultaneously. Additionally, an improved version of the perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm based on artificial potential fields (APF), called APF-P&O, is presented. According to the results of the simulations carried out in MATLAB/Simulink software, the APF-P&O method is more efficient than the conventional method.

This paper presents a modular and scalable power electronics concept for motor control with continuous output voltage. In contrast to multilevel concepts, modules with continuous output voltage are connected in series. The continuous output voltage of each module is obtained by using gallium nitride (GaN) high electron motility transistor (HEMT)s as switches inside the modules with a switching frequency in the range between 500 kHz and 1 MHz. Due to this high switching frequency a LC filter is integrated into the module resulting in a continuous output voltage. A main topic of the paper is the active damping of this LC output filter for each module and the analysis of the series connection of the damping behaviour. The results are illustrated with simulations and measurements.

Opis:
Liquid Phase Exfoliation (LPE) is a common route to produce two-dimensional MoS2 nanosheets. In this research, MoS2 powder is exfoliated by an ultrasonic probe (sonicator) in a water-ethanol solution. It is reported that MoS2 as a prototype 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenide, has a band gap that increases with a decreasing number of layers. There are some factors that affect the average band gap energy value and the thickness of the exfoliated flakes. We varied different parameters of the ultrasonic probe like power, pulse percentage and time duration of sonication to investigate the effects on the number of MoS2 layers. Our findings from the UV-Visible spectra, SEM, FESEM and TEM images indicate that the minimum thickness for these samples was acquired at 50% of the input power of the sonicator we used (∼65 W) and the optimum pulse percentage is 50%. The current study also found that the average amount of band gap increased with an increase in sonication time, and then remained unchanged after 60 minutes.

19a ust. 1 ustawy z dnia 11 marca 2004 r. o podatku do towarów i usług [1, dalej „ustawa z dnia 11 marca 2004 r.”], tj. z chwilą dokonania dostawy energii elektrycznej lub gazu ziemnego bądź też dystrybucji tych towarów. 19a ust. 5 pkt 4 lit. a i b ustawy z dnia 11 marca 2004 r.
There are certain substantial legal arguments to justify the statement that entities running clearing houses/agencies at commodity exchange should recognise their tax obligation according to the general rules laid down by Article 19(a), clause 1 of the Value-Added Tax of 11th March 2004––that is, as from the moment electricity or nat - ural gas is supplied or distributed. The actions of such agencies or houses namely consist only in clearing and/ or of transactions entered into and concluded by their members at trade exchanges, in respect of gas and electricity (inter alia). Hence, these actions boil down to a peculiarly virtual transfer of the right to use energy or gas to the specified entities. Consequently, highly specialised, professional actions ought to be taken into account–– such which are related to a special type and specificity of actions performed in the energy/power sector––along with typical actions. The latter basically include accounting and clearing/settlement actions, that is, actions of a general nature, performed across the sectors. In performing their accounting, clearing and/or settlement actions, the clearing houses/agencies should not be subject to the rules set forth in Art. 19(a), clause 5, item 4(a) & (b) of the aforesaid VAT Act.

Nowadays, there is a need for charging electric vehicles (EVs) wirelessly, since it provides a more convenient, reliable, and safer charging option for the EV customers. A wireless charging system using a double-sided LCC compensation topology is proven to be highly efficient; however, the large volume induced by the compensation coils is a drawback. Endocrine links are more useful in transmitting power wirelessly than other links. These links are used in the transmission of low and medium power. In this paper, by analyzing the equivalent circuit of a WPT power transmission system, the optimal value of the inductance was formulated to increase the yield. This can have other applications. In order to neutralize the reactive losses, the series resonance is used in both in primary and secondary sections, among which the lower quantities of series inductors were selected from the initial values to increase the efficiency and power. Furthermore, it is possible to optimize these values using suitable optimization methods. In this study, the PSO algorithm was used for this purpose.

A Stirling cycle was developed by Rallis considering the adiabatic behaviour instead of isothermal behaviour of working fluid inside the expansion/compression volume, since the isothermal processes are very difficult to be realised in actual practice due to irreversibilities. In order to increase the performance of Rallis Stirling cycle engine, two modified versions of Rallis Stirling cycle engine model have been proposed and developed, called as Rallis modified Stirling cycle engine (RMSE). In this paper, the thermodynamic analysis of the developed models have been carried out and the simulated results are compared with the Rallis ideal model of Stirling cycle engine, as this model describes more accurately the thermodynamic cycle of practical Stirling machines. The results reveal the fact that the thermal efficiency of RMSE I model is enhanced by 38.06% and that of RMSE II model by 48.42%, whereas the power output is increased by 58.05% and 78.19% in case of RMSE I and RMSE II model respectively, when compared with the Rallis ideal adiabatic model of Stirling engine.

The aim of this study was to identify the determinants of peak power achieved during vertical jumps in order to clarify relationship between the height of jump and the ability to exert maximum power. Methods: One hundred young (16.8±1.8 years) sportsmen participated in the study (body height 1.861 ± 0.109 m, body weight 80.3 ± 9.2 kg). Each participant performed three jump tests: countermovement jump (CMJ), akimbo countermovement jump (ACMJ), and spike jump (SPJ). A force plate was used to measure ground reaction force and to determine peak power output. The following explanatory variables were included in the model: jump height, body mass, and the lowering of the centre of mass before launch (countermovement depth). A model was created using multiple regression analysis and allometric scaling. Results: The model was used to calculate the expected power value for each participant, which correlated strongly with real values. The value of the coefficient of determination R2 equalled 0.89, 0.90 and 0.98, respectively, for the CMJ, ACMJ, and SPJ jumps. The countermovement depth proved to be a variable strongly affecting the maximum power of jump. If the countermovement depth remains constant, the relative peak power is a simple function of jump height. Conclusions: The results suggest that the jump height of an individual is an exact indicator of their ability to produce maximum power. The presented model has a potential to be utilized under field condition for estimating the maximum power output of vertical jumps.

In renewable systems, there may be conditions that can be either network error or power transmission line and environmental conditions such as when the wind speed is unbalanced and the wind turbine is connected to the grid. In this case, the control system is not damaged and will remain stable in the power transmission system. Voltage stability studies on an independent wind turbine at fault time and after fixing the error is one of the topics that can strengthen the future of independent collections. At the time of the fault, the network current increases dramatically, resulting in a higher voltage drop. Hence the talk of fast voltage recovery during error and after fixing the error and protection of rotor and grid side converters against the fault current and also protection against rising DC voltage (which sharply increases during error) is highly regarded. So, several improvements have been made to the construction of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) turbine such as: a) error detection system, b) DC link protection, c) crow bar circuit, d) block of the rotor and stator side converters, e) injecting reactive power during error, f) nonlinear control design for turbine blades, g) tuning and harmonization of controllers used to keep up the power quality and to stabilize the system output voltage in the power grid. First, the dynamic models of a wind turbine, gearbox, and DFIG are presented. Then the controllers are modeled. The results of the simulation have been validated in MATLAB/Simulink.

The proposed technique is on dual axis solar tracking system based on fuzzy control. In this proposed research solar panel will move along horizontal as well as along vertical axis according to sun’s daily movement and also follow its seasonal change in axis; motion of the panel will be determined by the fuzzy controller. The proposed technique is such that solar panel actually follows the motion of sun to get maximum power. Problem is the percentage of useful solar energy because it varies with time. Variation in it occurs because as we know sun keeps on moving so its incident radiation is not perpendicular to panel’s surface all along the day. It has been observed that efficiency of solar panel is about 23% -25%. Generally, PV panels are fixed along one direction due to which as the sun moves, the angle of incident insolation varies, decreasing the amount of useful solar radiation and hence could not provide maximum power, there is need of a technique which can be used to solve out this problem.

The article presents the result of tests of a single segment of a prototype water turbine, performed in order to determine its shaft power output as a function of rpm, and to verify the declared performance. The results have been compared with the outcomes of numerical calculations performed, for the same conditions, with the use of FLUENT software. The work presents information of crucial importance for presenting the process of testing the piece in question, such as: test environment, properties of the test piece, testing equipment used, as well as the methodology and the course of hydromechanical measurements, along with the characteristics of the results obtained. Then, the measurement results are discussed and analyzed. Conclusions are presented as well. Analysis of the results, taking into consideration the physical image of phenomena occurring in the case of flow-devices, such as water turbines, has made it possible to define other, important characteristics of the turbine, such as: output, shaft torque and efficiency, as a function of rpm and head of turbine. Test results have confirmed the expected mechanical and power-related properties of the turbine and have proved the numerical flow modeling model used effective. A brief description of the prospects concerning new applications of the turbine discussed has been presented as well.
