Opis:
A space Y is called a free space if for each compactum X the set of maps with hereditarily indecomposable fibers is a dense $G_δ$-subset of C(X,Y), the space of all continuous functions of X to Y. Levin proved that the interval I and the real line ℝ are free. Krasinkiewicz independently proved that each n-dimensional manifold M (n ≥ 1) is free and the product of any space with a free space is free. He also raised a number of questions about the extent of the class of free spaces. In this paper we will answer most of those questions. We prove that each cone is free. We introduce the notion of a locally free space and prove that a locally free ANR is free. It follows that every polyhedron is free. Hence, 1-dimensional Peano continua, Menger manifolds and many hereditarily unicoherent continua are free. We also give examples that show some limits to the extent of the class of free spaces.

Opis:
The study presents a mathematical model of the crystallisation of nodular graphite cast iron. The proposed model is based on micro- and macromodels, in which heat flow is analysed at the macro level, while micro level is used for modelling of the diffusion of elements. The use of elementary diffusion field in the shape of an averaged Voronoi polyhedron [AVP] was proposed. To determine the geometry of the averaged Voronoi polyhedron, Kolmogorov statistical theory of crystallisation was applied. The principles of a differential mathematical formulation of this problem were discussed. Application of AVP geometry allows taking into account the reduced volume fraction of the peripheral areas of equiaxial grains by random contacts between adjacent grains. As a result of the simulation, the cooling curves were plotted, and the movement of "graphite-austenite" and "austenite-liquid” phase boundaries was examined. Data on the microsegregation of carbon in the cross-section of an austenite layer in eutectic grains were obtained. Calculations were performed for different particle densities and different wall thicknesses. The calculation results were compared with experimental data.

The problem of minimizing a concave function on a convex polyhedron is considered. The author proposes a solution algorithm which, starting from a vertex representing a local minimum of the objective function, constructs a sequence of auxiliary linear programming problems in order to find a global minimum. The convergence of the algorithm is proven.

Opis:
The study presents the mathematical model of the carbon diffusion field in the growing eutectic grain during the ductile iron solidification. In the proposed model heat flow is analyzed at the macro level, while micro level is used for modeling of the diffusion field. The use of an averaged Voronoi polyhedron (AVP) geometry was proposed as a shape of the elementary diffusion field domain. To determine the geometry of the AVP, Kolmogorov’s statistical theory of the solidification was applied. The principles of a differential mathematical formulation of this problem were discussed. Application of the AVP geometry allows taking into account the reduced volume fraction of the peripheral areas of the equiaxial grains by random contacts between the adjacent grains. The model also takes into consideration an influence of a segregation of the solute in the liquid phase on the final distribution of this element in the eutectic grain. The distribution of the solute at different time instance in the liquid phase and eutectic austenite was calculated. It allows as to obtain data on the carbon distribution in the eutectic cell at the end of the solidification process. The cooling curve was determined as well.

Opis:
Application of polyhedrons as image surface in cartographic projections has a tradition of more than 200 years. The first maps relying on polyhedrons appeared in the 19th century. One of the first maps which based on an original polyhedral projection using a regular octahedron was constructed by the Californian architect Bernard Cahill in 1909. Other well known polyhedral projections and maps included Buckminster Fuller’s projection and map into icosahedron from 1954 and S. Waterman’s projection into truncated octahedron from 1996, which resulted in the “butterfly” map. Polyhedrons as image surface have the advantage of allowing a continuous image of continents of the Earth with low projection distortion. Such maps can be used for many purposes, such as presentation of tectonic plates or geographic discoveries. The article presents most well known polyhedral maps, describes cartographic projections applied in their preparation, as well as contemporary examples of polyhedral maps. The method of preparation of a polyhedral map and a virtual polyhedral globe is also presented.

We formulate general boundary conditions for a labelling of vertices of a triangulation of a polyhedron by vectors to assure the existence of a balanced simplex. The condition is not for each vertex separately, but for a set of vertices of each boundary simplex. This allows us to formulate a theorem, which is more general than the Sperner lemma and theorems of Shapley; Idzik and Junosza-Szaniawski; van der Laan, Talman and Yang. A generalization of the Poincaré-Miranda theorem is also derived.

We study the masses charged by $(dd^cu)^n$ at isolated singularity points of plurisubharmonic functions u. This is done by means of the local indicators of plurisubharmonic functions introduced in [15]. As a consequence, bounds for the masses are obtained in terms of the directional Lelong numbers of u, and the notion of the Newton number for a holomorphic mapping is extended to arbitrary plurisubharmonic functions. We also describe the local indicator of u as the logarithmic tangent to u.

The objective of this paper is the investigation of the cyclic structure and permutation properties based on neighbor elements transposition properties and the properties of the permutation polyhedron. In this paper we consider special type of transpositions of elements in a permutation. A feature of these transpositions is that they corresponding to the adjacency criterion in a permutation polyhedron. We will investigate permutation properties with the help of the permutation polyhedron by using the immersing in the Euclidian space. Six permutation types are considered in correspondence with the location of arbitraży components. We consider the impact of the corresponding components on the cyclic structure of permutations depending on the type of a permutation. In this paper we formulate the assertion about the features of the impact of transpositions corresponding to the adjacency criterion on the permutations consisting of the one cycle. During the proof of statement all six types of permutations are considered and clearly demonstrated that only two types arrangement of the elements in the cycle contribute to the persistence a single cycle in the permutation after the impast of two transpositions. Research conducted in the Niven work, will be further employed in mathematical modeling and computational methods. Especially for solving combinatorial optimization problems and for the generation of combinatorial objects with a predetermined cyclic structure.

Opis:
Suppose that P is a finite 2-polyhedron. We prove that there exists a PL surjective map f:Q → P from a fake surface Q with preimages of f either points or arcs or 2-disks. This yields a reduction of the Whitehead asphericity conjecture (which asserts that every subpolyhedron of an aspherical 2-polyhedron is also aspherical) to the case of fake surfaces. Moreover, if the set of points of P having a neighbourhood homeomorphic to the 2-disk is a disjoint union of open 2-disks, and every point of P has an arbitrarily small 2-dimensional neighbourhood, then we may additionally conclude that Q is a special 2-polyhedron.
