Opis:
The article contains a brief overview of the main political parties of the Second Republic of Poland. It outlines the genesis of the most important groups operating in each of the partitions, showing the impact of the political activity of Poles in the occupant countries on the shape of Polish political scene in later years. A particular emphasis is placed on presenting the groups active during the “sovereignty of the Parliament,” i.e. in the years 1919–1926. The Polish Socialist Party (PPS) and National Democracy (ND), portrayed as the main political antagonists, are discussed, as well as the peasants’ parties, acting as the political centre. In addition, the author presents the main political currents representing the Jewish and Ukrainian minorities, and describes the special place of the Polish Communist Party in the political system of that time.

Opis:
The political situation in Catalonia during the last months is changing almost daily. Catalan nationalist movements consistently continue their efforts to create an independent state. As a result, every vote – an unofficial plebiscite, local elections or elections to the Catalan parliament – is treated like a referendum on the matter of independence. The Catalan actions that are ever more faster and further-reaching meet with a growing opposition of the central government, threatening the Catalan authorities with a number of sanctions in case of taking further, concrete steps to break away from Spain. Although, from the outside, the Catalan independence parties seem to be a monolith, the situation on the regional political scene is much more complex. During the past several months, the balance of power of political parties in Catalonia was completely changed. Ruling for almost thirty years, Convergencia i Unió divided and the results of the election of 27 September forced Prime Minister Artur Mas (of the centre-right CiU) and the leaders of the new pro-independence coalition Junts pel Si to seek an ally in the far-left Popular Unity Candidacy. Therefore, this is a time of difficult choices for Catalonia, not only in relation to the issue of independence, but also when it comes to alliances on the national political scene. In this article, I will try to analyze the curent political scene in Catalonia and its impact on the independence aspirations of the Autonomous Community. I will examine the current balance of power of political parties and the changes that have occurred in 2015. I will look at the programmes of the leading – in recent years as well as currently – Catalan political factions in terms of their outlook on the issue of independence. Finally, I will consider in what way the complex situation on the Catalan political scene may become a determinant of the effectiveness of the demands for independence made by the authorities of Catalonia.

Opis:
The assessment of the Polish Third Republic was undoubtedly an important plane of polarisation of the contemporary Polish political scene. After the post-communist division, in which a key role was played by the assessment of the PPR, there was a post-Solidarity division, and the dispute axis was found in the assessment of the regime and economic transformation and the state of the nation under the rule of the Democratic Left Alliance. Lack of decommunisation and only partial inspection was for many right-sided groups an evidence of the superficiality of the system transformation and an explanation of many of its imperfections. The political polarisation was further exacerbated after the Smoleńsk catastrophe of 10 April 2010. Next to the strongly emotional questions of the causes of the event, there was an increase of the number of discussions on the functioning and state of the country. The diagnosis of the political, economic and social reality of the Polish Third Republic became one of the main programme factors of the political parties before the 2005 elections. The Law and Justice party had come up with one of the most critical assessments of the Polish Third Republic. The political programme based on negating the large part of the achievements of the Polish Third Republic was the main reason of their victory in the elections. The opinion of the Polish Third Republic also divided a large part of the society. Without a critical judgement of the reality of the 2005 there would be no victory of the Law and Justice and Civic Platform – the parties that declare breaking up with the pathologies of the Polish country.

Opis:
The study of political activity among the elderly has prompted some American researchers to take up research on “political gerontology” in the late 1970s. One of the effects of the increasing political activity of seniors, but also the growing number of 65+ voters was the emergence a new type of party that uniquely identified with senior citizens and in the wider sense ‒ the elderly, focusing both on demands typical for this electorate. The first party of its kind in Europe was the Italian Pensioners’ Party, founded in October 1987. The Balkan pensioners’ parties in the majority of cases were among the typical post-communist “demanding parties”, expressing the frustration of people, who lost social prestige and financial stability during the economic transformation. Some of them noted significant success by entering into the ruling coalitions (Serbia, Slovenia). Their successes generated the creation of new pensioners’ parties in Kosovo and Macedonia. The programs of Balkan pensioners’ parties are directed to the entire society, expressing sensitivity to the interests of excluding groups but it is hard to find visible references to elderly problems understood as a social and demographic challenge. The political activity of the Balkan “grey parties” does not seem as a form of elders’ emancipation but only as a defense of the pensions and social privileges inherited from the communist times.

Opis:
The article is an example of a discourse analysis dedicated to the decreasing relevance of the left-wing politics in Poland. In the course of the article author, first, reconstructs explanatory factors behind the phenomenon of the „disappearing left in Poland” that has been proposed by several authors since the 90s. In the second step, author applies this framework to the field of parliamentary politics, political discourses as well as to wider political context (i.e. media). The explanatory factors has been classified into five groups: adaptation (adjusting the left to the neoliberal order), denial (unsuccessful defense of leftist values and tradition), misrepresentation (consent of the political elites of the left to changing political affiliation of the trade unions that folated towards the conservative right), capture (exploitation of the crucial elements of the doctrine like „welfare state” by the national- Catholic milieus), incoherence (different ideological priorities of the „young” and „old” activists of the Left) and eventually liked with the „vanishing voter” situation in Poland.

Opis:
Polish local elections in 2018, many months before their commencement, became one of the main elements of the political discourse. Due to the specificity of the electoral calendar, for the first time since the parliamentary and presidential elections in 2015, voters had to assess the actions taken by the Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, PiS) in the electoral act. Of course, this could only happen indirectly, precisely through local elections, which due to their specificity, are not able to fully reflect the balance of powers that operates on the national arena. However, also in this way voters could refer to national events. Expressing support for them by voting on PiS, or by showing negations of their actions by voting for groups remaining in opposition. The aim of the paper is to check whether, in the perception of voters, events on the national political arena determine the behavior of two types of participants in local elections: local politicians and voters.

Opis:
Te wszystkie czynniki doprowadziły do przegrania wyborów w 1950 r.
The article discusses the shape of the Turkish political scene in the period from the death of Mustafa Kemal to the loss of power by the People’s Republican Party, ruling since 1923. The author focuses mainly on the attempts to introduce a multi-party system and the reasons for the change of government in Turkey. The article was prepared based on source analysis (archival and press) and studies on the period under study. The conducted query clearly shows that the main reason for the loss of power by the Kemalists was the economic problems of the state, the lack of a formulated program that would include the interests of peasants and workers, and the lack of interest in their situation, as well as the loss of authority enjoyed by Mustafa Kemal. All these factors led to the election being lost in 1950.

Opis:
European Parliamentary election 2014 were the third elections for countries that joined European Union in 2004, including Poland. As we may observe from the very beginning of the EP’s history, elections suffer constant drop in voter turnout, and since 1999 the turnout total for less than 50%. There are many theories explaining this state of affairs, with most notable “second-order elections” and democracy deficit theories. Polish profile of voter turnout in EP elections seems to fit into frameworks of these theories, and is positioned among EU’s members with the lowest turnout. What is specific for electoral behaviour in Poland is stability: the turnout and support for political parties seems to stable and even petrified. This assessment seems to be supported by the results of election within past four years, both on aggregate and individual levels of data.
