Opis:
This article is an attempt at a fairly detailed analysis of the TV series Being Forty in its first version of the 1970s. The text proposes an interpretation of the film from the perspective of Pierre Bourdieu’s theory and in particular reconstructs the social sphere of the film’s protagonists, which consists of the intelligentsia elite, the nomenklatura, the lower intelligentsia, and medium-level technical personnel. In the picture produced by the filmmakers, the role of the intelligentsia, especially its multi-generational old elite, is dominant. This vision does not fully correspond with the real place of the intelligentsia in Poland during the Gierek era. The authors of the article thus interpret the film as the scriptwriters’ appreciation of the intelligentsia, both in respect to its lower technical staff and to the part of the nomenklatura that was less rich in cultural capital. The interpretative framework proposed in the text seems useful for analyzing other works of art in order to reconstruct the social relations of the times in which they were created.

Opis:
This article aims to reconstruct the concept of power by Jadwiga Staniszkis. This was done by analyzing her numerous works devoted to the phenomenon of power. The key to their proper reading was the previous recognition of the concept of the field of forces presented in them. Referring to it, it became possible to systematise and coherently present the main assumptions of her theory. They form a specific whole with its proper structure. The main elements of the power concept of Jadwiga Staniszkis were: ways of expressing power, its multifaceted nature, processuality, connection with the state and specific types of its rule -dictates. A complex and multidimensional theory emerged from the reconstruction. The researcher based her on numerous, new concepts, which additionally required the previous analysis themselves.

Czech literature vs. problem of power
disciplinary power
subjugation
power as a game
power and death
identity
Opis:
This article is a critical analysis of the discourse of power represented in the postmodern narrative. In this perspective, the Czech writer’s book creates a special study of the ‘genealogy of power’ (in relation to the concept of Michel Foucault). It arises from the combination (by using of the social-fiction literary convention) that regards the story of two symbolic forms of violence, supporting ‘sacred’ process of ‘subjugation’ of the entity (the past regime and, as result of trauma, the present and the future regime). The first form is a result of disciplinary authority of the communist system (a reference to the history of the Czech history – the period of the radicalization of the regime in the 50s of the twentieth century). The second one exemplifies the postmodern capillary violence (a reference to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center). In this analysis, the impact of the power dissipated in the human consciousness resembles chess game, used in the story of Kratochvil in order to express a dramatic situation in which the rate is the annexation of subjectivity.
