Zastosowano metodą galwanostatyczną z przerywanym impulsem prądowym i metodą quasi-potencjostatyczną do polaryzacji elektrod żelaznej i stalowej (Cr 15, Ni 13, Mo 2) w wodnych roztworach Na₂SO₄ z udziałem i bez udziału jonów Cl¯ oraz H₂S.
Intermittent galvanostic and quasi-pfitentiostatic polarization measurements were carried out in Na₂SO₄ solutions in the absence and presence of Cl¯ ions and H₂S using iron and stainless steel electrodes. With consideration to the Fe-H₂O binary and Fe-S-H₂O ternary systems, and also the effects of pH and polarizing current density on the shape of the potential vs. time diagrams, conclusions were drawn concerning the corrosion products anticipated under the given conditions, and also the stability of the passive films. The differences in character of the passive films on iron and stainless steel are reflected primarily in their degree of protectiveness and their susceptibility to breakdown.

Opis:
The continuation of an analytical approach to elastic spin polarized low energy electron diffraction (SPLEED) [1] from magnetic surfaces is presented and searched numerically using three different layer dependent surface magnetization models of the Ni(l10) surfaces case. In the approach, the dynamical surface scattering LEED and exchange potentials are expressed in terms of the effective scattering potentials of a free atom. The SPLEED exchange scattering asymmetry during the reversal of the polarization direction of the incident electron beam are given in analytical form and the asymmetry effects are computed numerically. The temperature dependence of the surface polarization effect for nickel surfaces is presented graphically. The obtained results correspond to those of experiments and literature.

An attempt was made to modify the model Onsager theory. A polarizable molecular dipole enclosed in a spherical cavity is substituted for a rigid one submerged in the polarizable medium which fills the cavity. The local dielectric permittivity of the Heaviside type is replaced for the oscillating, rapidly damping function of the Fresnel integral. The analytical expressions deduced allow to estimate dipoles of free molecules, starting from the results of dielectrometry of polar fluids. The obtained values are as close as possible to the experimental data on a great variety of pure organic liquids.

Polarization anisotropies of luminescence spectra caused by a potential modulation in the quantum well plane are discussed. Any lateral potential induces heavy hole light hole mixing. This leads to lateral polarization dependence of the interband transition rates if the confinement potential is not symmetrical with respect to rotations by 90 degrees around the quantum well growth axis. We present some numerical results for quantum wire arrays and discuss to what extent the present theory can be compared to experimental results.

The quantum-defect-orbital method has been reformulated in order to include both relativistic effects and the electron correlation described by a core polarization potential. All quantities appearing in this formulation may be evaluated analytically. A comparison with experimental results demonstrates, on one hand, significance of the relativity-correlation corrections and, on the other, inadequacy of the relativistic quantum-defect-orbital approach when indirect relativistic effects are important, i.e. when atoms contain closed shells of d electrons.

Set forth in the previous report [1], the continual theory of dipole polarization of molecular fluids, which suggests substitution of the rigid Onsager sphere for the polarizable body and takes into consideration electric induction of this body and its nearest surroundings, is extended in this paper to binary solutions with diverse polarities. Dipole moments of free molecules of dissolved substances were calculated from experimental data of dielectrometry of a large number of extremely diluted organic substances and are close to the corresponding gaseous phase values. On the ground of solution polarization measurements the criterion of physical consistency of various models of the condensed medium internal field is proposed.

The Kerr constants of pure liquid organic compounds, which exhibit weak intermolecular interactions and possess widely varying electric, optical and polarizational molecular parameters, were computed from the data on dielectrometry and electric birefringence. Good agreement of the calculated and observed values was reached as the result of the introduction of the local field model, which develops the concepts of reactive field and local electric induction of a polarized fluid, into the orientational theory of the Kerr effect.

The existence of a strong spatial localization for the efficiency of cross-polarization by single quantum transition in the presence of a main field gradient was evidenced . The case of the solids with strong dipolar interactions has been analyzed. The slice profile of the transferred polarization was evaluated for different cross-polarization procedures. The spatial localization is superior as compared with the spin-locking slice selection method.

A comparative study of the methods of interpretation of solvent influences on electric properties of molecules was conducted based on experimental dielectric properties of dilute solutions of organic substances of various polarity. A comparative analysis of several methods of interpretation of solvent influence on molar Kerr constants of solutes was done. The analysis was based on experimentally determined electro-optical and dielectric properties of binary solutions of organic substances with various polarities, polarizabilities and optical anisotropies. It was found that the role of universal van-der-Waals interactions treated via London-Debye-Keesom potentials was best accounted for by a modified orientational theory of Kerr effect that developed the ansatz of reactive field and local dielectric permittivity. An extrapolation method of determination of gas phase molar Kerr constants of solutes was deduced from the theory.

The use of linearly or circularly polarized light in the absorption or excitation beam in spectroscopic studies involving lanthanide ions, and the analysis of emitted light polarization has provided useful information concerning molecular structure, and excited state dynamics and energetics. Linear polarization studies may be used to aid in the assignment of crystal field components of electronic transitions, and circular polarization may be employed as a probe of chiral structure and structural changes. Examples of several of the different experimental techniques are presented and discussed.

We report on measurements of the relative optical-excitation function for the 4$\text{}^{1}$P state of Ca and polarization degree of the 4227-Å resonance line. The measurements were carried out using crossed low-density beams of electrons and calcium atoms, for incident electron energies from 8 to 500 eV. For each electron energy we have used 28 results obtained at different polarizer positions from 0-180 ̊ to extract the required parameters. Excellent agreement between the present results and earlier predictions has been found.

Opis:
After a brief review of the ionization of excited hydrogen atoms by a linearly polarized field, we discuss experimental results for the polarization dependence of this process. Experiments at ω/2π = 9.904 GHz used two different ranges of principal quantum number n$\text{}_{0}$ between 29 and 98. At low scaled frequencies, Ω ≲ 0.1, ionization data for certain narrow ranges of n$\text{}_{0}$ exhibit striking sensitivity to fields with elliptical polarization not too far from circular polarization. Classical calculations reproduce this behavior and show it to be the result of 2ω driving terms that appear when the Hamiltonian is transformed to a frame rotating at ω. It shows how higher-dimensional dynamics can influence the ionization and be used to control it when the polarization departs from linear or circular polarization. At higher scaled frequencies, 0.6 ≲ Ω$\text{}_{0}$ ≲ 1.4, near the onset of ionization circularly and elliptically polarized data show surprising similarities with linearly polarized data in a parameter regime where the ionization dynamics is dominated by the influence of the pendulumlike resonance zone centered at scaled frequency n$\text{}_{0}^{3}$ω ≡ Ω$\text{}_{0}$ = 1. The stabilizing influence of this zone can be understood classically, but nonclassical stability associated with quantal separatrix states at its edge is a semiclassical effect.
