Opis:
The article discusses damages of essential tribological associations in crankshaft and piston systems of large power two-stroke engines used as main engines, which take place during transport tasks performed by those ships. Difficulties are named which make preventing those damages impossible, despite the fact that the technical state of engines of this type is identified with the aid of complex diagnostic systems making use of advanced computer technology. It is demonstrated that one of causes of the damages is the lack of research activities oriented on recognising random properties of the loads leading to those damages. A proposal is made for the loads acting at a given time t on tribological associations in crankshaft and piston systems of internal combustion engines used as main engines to be considered as random variables Qt. At the same time the loads examined within a given time interval tr ≤ t ≤ tz would be considered stochastic processes {Q(t): t ≥ 0}. Essential properties of the loads of the abovementioned tribological associations are named and explained by formulating hypotheses which need empirical verification. Interval estimation is proposed for estimating the expected value E(Qt) of the load Qt acting at time t. A relation is indicated between the mechanical load and the thermal load acting on tribological associations in the ship main engine crankshaft and piston system. A suggestion is formulated that a stochastic form of the relation between these types of load is to be searched for, rather than statistic relation, and a proposal is made to measure the intensity (strength) of the stochastic relation using the Czuprow’s convergence coefficient.

Opis:
Wayfinding is a vital part of our everyday life. Since it is our daily routine, hardly anybody realizes what a demanding task it is and that it requires certain spatial and cognitive abilities. To develop supporting tools for wayfinding, it is essential to know the mechanisms that control these processes. With a progress of technology, the size and weight of electronic devices have diminished significantly. The dropping of prices and wide-ranging availability of such devices increased interest in such systems. Factors like size and availability were the reason for calling them “ubiquitous systems”. The market is full of perfectly working navigation systems for car drivers. They are widespread, have high user-acceptance level and their market is fast-growing. Can one modify such systems in a way that pedestrians can use it? The problem is more complex than one might imagine at first sight. Field tests show that systems for car drivers do not meet the requirements of pedestrian users. Car and pedestrian navigation differ in: degree of freedom, velocity of movement and spatial resolution. In this paper we focus on data acquisition. The required data cannot be based on the same datasets used for car navigation systems. Automatization of the process of data acquisition is also required. The paper introduces a theoretical basis of pedestrian navigation system. The emphasis is given to the mechanisms responsible for perceiving the surrounding environment. A concept of cognitive maps and image schemata, which are working in our minds, is presented. The paper explains what are our needs and information categories while we are performing a wayfinding task. The wayfinding model developed assumes construction of decision scenes which will replace decision points well-known from car driver navigation systems. The result of this research is an algorithm allowing automatic data processing for pedestrian navigation system. Through successive phases of preprocessing, binarization, skeletonization, and application of Voronoi diagrams, the navigationable graph was obtained. It includes decision scenes and is ready for implementation to the new system.

Opis:
The paper deals with the area of the technical solution of the information and navigation system intended for persons with visual impairment. The first part is focused on the transfer of information concerned using the conductivity properties of the human body as a transmission channel. This principle is referred to as Personal Area Network (PAN). The principle used of data transmission through the human body can be implemented in several specific applications. The second part of the paper addresses the area of navigation for persons with visual impairment to ensure their easier orientation in an unknown terrain. This part is focused on the navigation of the visually impaired, for their easier orientation in unknown areas. The technical navigation system, whose hardware is integrated into the standard stick for the blind, is based on the principle of a digital analysis of a signal from the magnetometer. The analyzed signal occurs by moving the stick over surface-distributed neodymium magnets, which, with their distribution and orientation of magnetic poles, creates basic orientation pictograms. The conclusion of the paper describes the design of an information and navigation system that the authors have practically implemented and tested.

Opis:
Personal positioning is facing a huge challenge to maintain a reliable accuracy through all applications. Although in outdoor applications, several mobile navigation devices can provide acceptable positioning accuracy, the situation in indoor environment is not the same. Mobile navigation devices mainly contain a global positioning system (GPS) receiver and an inertial measurement unit (IMU). The main drawback in indoor navigation applications is the unavailability of the GNSS signals, which decreases the possibility of obtaining an accurate absolute position solution, as the inertial system (INS) solution will drift with time in the absence of external updates. Several alternatives were presented lately to update the inertial solution such as using Wi-Fi, UWB, RFID, several self-contained sensors, imaging aiding and spatial information aiding. In order to achieve accurate position solution, with low-cost and usable technique, an integrated mobile navigation system integrating GPS/IMU/Wi-Fi and map-matching was developed. The developed system uses the prior knowledge of the indoor geometrical and topological information, as a threshold for the navigation solution, forcing the provided solution to be mostly on the right track. The geometrical and topological information for the building was used to build the geospatial data model. The use of this model was performed by developing a map matching algorithm which uses the geometrical and topological characteristics of the building to locate the user position on the building map. This algorithm was developed based on the geospatial information of the Engineering building, University of Calgary, where the field test occurred. The map-matching algorithm was evaluated by processing and comparing two separate navigation solutions through the study area, one using only the GPS/IMU/Wi-Fi system, and second solution was assisted with the map-matching algorithm which shows significant enhancement in the position solution for the indoor trajectory.
