Opis:: Autorka oznaczyła 13 gatunków, na leżących do 11 rodzajów ryb z gromad Elasmobranchii i Teleostomi, notowanych po raz pierwszy z wapieni mioceńskich Pińczowa. Fauna ryb z Pińczowa obejmuje rodzaje żyjące także obecnie w morzach tropikalnych i subtropikalnych.
Les restes de Poissons décrits dans cette note ont été extraits en 1956/57 des calcaires à Lithothamnium du Tortonien inferieur a Pińczów. A part un os pharyngien ils consistent en dents isolées. L'auteur y a pu déterminer les formes suivantes: Elasmobranches: Odontaspis acutissima Agassiz, Carchnrodon megalodon Agassiz, Galeocerdo aduncus Agassiz, Eugaleus latus Leriche, Galeus cf. canis Bonaparte, Carcharias (Aprïonodon) cf. collata Eastman, Carcharias (Hypoprion) sp., Carcharias (Prionodon) sp., Myliobatis sp. (cf. meridion alis Gervais) et Raja sp.; Téléostomes: Labrodon pavimentatum Gervais, Sargus jomnitanus Valenciennes, Chrysophrys sp. (cf . Sphaerodus cinctus Münster), Chrysophrys cf, Chrysophrys cincta (Lawl.) var. astensis Sacco. Cette ichthyofaune comprend des genres vivant aujourd'hui surtout dans les mers tropicales et subtropicales, ce qu'illustrele le tableau 2 du texte polonais (p. 427). Kowalski (1930) a signalé, en outre, la presénce dans le calcaire de Pińczów des genres Notidanus, Lamna et Oxyrhina, que l'auteur de la présente note n'a pu retrouver.

Opis:: Spectral and photophysical properties of a few aromatic thioketones in their S$\text{}_{2}$- and T$\text{}_{1}$-states, in particular those determined by their interactions with solvents, are discussed. The reasons for a drastically different behaviour of thioketones in interactions with benzene as well as saturated hydrocarbons and perfluoroalkanes are analysed in more detail. Results of the time-resolved transient absorption measurements in the pico- and nanosecond time scale are given. An analysis of these results proves that a product of the decay of the S$\text{}_{2}$-state of xanthione in benzene is a new transient (τ $\text{}_{1}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{e}$ ≥ 60 ps) individuum which, regarding the system properties and the conditions of the experiment, has been identified as an exciplex in S$\text{}_{2}$-state formed as a result of an efficient interaction with benzene molecule. Also in xanthione//alkane systems the involvement of a transient individuum was proved. Most probably, this individuum was a thioketyl radical which could be formed by hydrogen abstraction from a hydrocarbon molecule by xanthione in the S$\text{}_{2}$-state. Such individua act as intermediates in passing excitation to the triplet states of thioketones and are effective channels of the S$\text{}_{2}$-state decay. The changes observed in the transient absorption spectra of xanthione in C$\text{}_{6}$H$\text{}_{6}$ in the time range of 10$\text{}^{-7}$-10$\text{}^{-6}$ s can be attributed to the formation of an excimer in the T$\text{}_{1}$-state as a result of the T$\text{}_{1}$-state selfquenching.

Opis:: Stres w pracy zawodowej jest czynnikiem ryzyka nadciśnienia tętniczego i choroby niedokrwiennej serca. Sprzyja też rozwojowi cukrzycy i otyłości. Słabo znany jest wpływ obciążeń psychospołecznych na stan zdrowia systematycznie leczonych pacjentów z przewlekłymi chorobami układu krążenia i przemiany materii. W badaniach własnych, którymi objęto pacjentów wykonujących zawodowo pracę wymagającą podejmowania odpowiedzialnych decyzji, koncentracji uwagi i powodującą napięcie emocjonalne, wykazano (na podstawie 24-godzinnych zapisów EKG i ciśnienia tętniczego) występowania znacznych wzrostów ciśnienia tętniczego, arytmii serca i epizodów niedokrwienia mięśnia sercowego, pomimo regularnego przyjmowania leków. Zmiany występowały częściej w czasie dni pracy określanych przez badanych jako stresogenne. U chorych na cukrzycę stwierdzono podwyższone stężenie glukozy we krwi w godzinach największej aktywności zawodowej.
Job strain is a risk factor for hypertension and coronary heart disease. It can also contribute to the development of diabetes and obesity. Little is known about the effect of psycho-social factors and especially occupational stress on the health status of regularly medicated patients with chronic cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. An analysis of 24-hour registration of ECG and blood pressure in patients engaged in jobs with high mental demands and extensive responsibility showed that during „stressful” days in many of them large increases in blood pressure, ischemic changes in ECG, cardiac arrhythmias occurred in spite of pharmacological treatment. Some diabetic patients also showed high levels blood glucose during the most active part of the working day.

Opis:: At present, in mandibular fractures surgical treatment reposition and titanium miniplates osteosynthesis is the most common method used. The treatment results are assessed on the basis of comparative analysis of two radiograms taken before and after fixations of fractures. In this article the objective method of radiological assessment of osteosynthesis is presented. The crucial part of the method is the computer program which was created at The Institute of Computer Biomedical Systems, Silesian University in Katowice. Comparison of placement of bone fragments on a pair of pantomograms taken before and after a particular surgical operation was done. To make the process of the results evaluation an objective one a new parameter - the relative dislocation coefficient - was implemented. Achieved results enable to assess correctness of bone fracture reposition on the pantomographical pictures taken twice, once before and the next time after osteosynthesis.

Opis:: The method of objective assessment of the correctness mandible bones fracture slit was proposed in the research. At present, treatment results are evaluated by comparing pantomographic pictures made before and after integration. It is not an objective method; the estimation of the integration correctness coefficient is not possible, either. The use of computer processing enables introducing the relative mandible faction dislocation coefficient. Thanks to this, measurable determination of bone faction reposition correctness on pantomograms made after osteosynthesis is possible.

Opis:: AlN nanocrystalline layers and superstructures are used in the modern optoelectronic technology as reflecting mirrors in semiconductor lasers. In the present work the properties of AlN films prepared by sputtering methods from an AlN target in reactive Ar + N plasma were investigated. The characterisation was performed with HRTEM, SEM, glancing angle XRD and RBS methods. The present measurements confirmed the polycrystalline structure of AlN layers and enabled the evaluation of their grain size. The roughness and thickness of the layers were additionally determined by ellipsometric and profilometric measurements.

Opis:: Regarding founations, membership in the EU is a great opportunity for Polish rural areas. What does it mean so far as architecture and cultural landscape are concerned? Viewpoints on the issue can fundamentally differ. 1. Why Polish people neglect Polish folk architecture and would like to replace it with the other, preferably urban or foreign ones? 2. Why people from the cities have an interest in primitive, half ruined buildings and in some cases their demolition is being forbidden? 3. Why design proposals and regulations introduced in local spatial development plans encouraging to build new housing according to traditional patterns are not accepted by village dwellers? These tree questions summarise a controversy on the future of rural architecture in dispute among monument conservators, the inhabitants and architects. Type of the edifice, which conquered today's landscape is a house of overdone solidity, built in brick and finished according to social aspirations of the owner and building supermarkets aesthetics. Contemporary adaptations of old buildings and patterns appeal more to urban dwellers visiting villages at the weekends than to their inhabitants. Moreover, using old patterns bears often resemblance to rather foreign traditions. Taking advantage from the European rural areas renewal programme, specific features of Polish villages should be exposed; for this purpose are given below: 1. Changing form of communication between professionals and village inhabitants. Public participation and dialogue are more effective than administrative obligation and sermonizing. 2. Agrotourism in its folk and ecological aspect is an opportunity. 3. Good practice popularization regarding contemporary design based on tradition and their implementation by formulating guidelines in local plans of spatial development. 4. Preparing and promoting an offer of building materials, which would contribute to the continuity of building tradition.

Opis:: The inhibitory effect of numerous analogues of PO-16, an hexadecadeoxyribonucleotide antisense to sequences -22 to -17 of PAI-1 mRNA coding for a fragment of the signal peptide, on the expression of PAI-1 in endothelial cells, and physiological consequences of the subsequently reduced PAI-1 activity tested in vitro and in vivo, were described in our previous studies. Of particular interest was PO-16 5'-O-conjugated with menthyl phosphorothioate (MPO-16R). In this work, tissue localisation of MPO-16R labelled with [35S] phosphorothioate at the 3'-end, was determined. [35S]MPO-16R and control [35S]MPO-16R-SENSE oligonucleotides were administered intravenously into 22 rats and organ distribution of the labelled bioconjugates was assessed after 24 and 48 h. For this purpose, tissue sections were subjected to autoradiography, and quantitated by liquid scintillation after solubilisation. Overall clearance of radioactivity was already seen after 24 h, with the radioactivity recovered mainly in the kidney and liver. A smaller fraction of radioactivity was also retained in the spleen and heart. The kidney concentration of the labelled probe was higher than that of liver by 50%. The distribution of PAI-1 mRNA in untreated rat kidney, liver, spleen and heart established by two independent techniques: Ribonuclease Protection Assay and Real-Time PCR, shows the same pattern as that observed for [35S]MPO-16R antisense.
