Opis:
Geological heritage can contribute to our understanding of the long-term evolution of important sectors of our planet. Cretaceous–Neogene rocks (chiefly carbonates) crop out in the Nowdan anticline of the Zagros orogen. Field investigations have permitted the establishment of 10 key localities (stratigraphical reference sections) that represent these rocks within this anticline, which is a single large geosite. The formations are related to the main phases in the evolution of the northeastern sector of the African–Arabian continental margin. For instance, carbonate rocks of the Asmari Formation mark changes in the affinity of the study area, from the African–Arabian plate to only the Arabian plate, separated in conjunction with Red Sea rifting during the Oligocene. Information on the palaeogeographical changes is really precious to geoscientists and geotourists alike, and contributes to the great value of the Nowdan anticline geosite. Evidence from the latter, as well as from a few other places (i.e., the Mountainous Adygeya geodiversity hotspot in Russia, the North Coast of São Paulo in Brazil and the possible Gondwanan geopark in Namibia) illustrates the necessity of distinguishing a palaeomapping subtype in palaeogeographical characterisation of geological heritage.

Opis:
The structure and evolution of the Polish part of the Variscan Orogenic Belt is reviewed, based on published data and interpretations. The Sudetic segment of the Variscides, together with adjacent areas, experienced multi-stage accretion during successive collisional events that followed the closure of different segments of the Rheic Ocean. In SW Poland, Variscan tectono-stratigraphic units are tectonically juxtaposed and often bear record of contrasting exhumation/cooling paths, constrained by palaeontological and geochronological data. This points to the collage-type tectonics of this area. A three-partite subdivision of the Sudetes is proposed that reflects timing differences in deformation and exhumation of the respective segments. The Central,West and East Sudetes were deformed and amalgamated during the Middle/Late Devonian, at the turn from the Devonian to Carboniferous and during Early Carboniferous times, respectively. Problems in extending the classical tectono-stratigraphic zonation of the Variscides into the Sudetes are discussed and attributed to activity along Late Palaeozoic strike-slip faults and shear zones, disrupting and dispersing the initially more simply distributed tectono-stratigraphic units into the present-day structural mosaic. Relationships between the Variscan Externides and the foreland basin are explored. Sediments of the foreland basin locally onlap the external fold-and-thrust belt that had undergone an earliest Carboniferous partial tectono-thermal overprint. During the Late Carboniferous, the SW part of the foreland basin was heavily affected by thrusting and folding and incorporated into the Externides. DuringWestphalian C to Early Permian times, localized folding and thrusting affected the distal parts of the foreland basin, probably in response to dextral transpressional movements along NW–SE trending basement faults.

Opis:
The origin of the olistostromes at the front of the Ukrainian Carpathian orogen is related to Miocene synsedimentary thrust movements of the Carpathian accretionary prism and to erosion of uplifted areas of the Boryslav-Pokuttya Nappe in the front of the accretionary prism. There are two olistostrome complexes. The first is the Lower Miocene Polyanytsya-Vorotyshcha Olistostrome with clasts of molasse and flysch deposits formed in a piggy-back basin on the inner part of the Boryslav-Pokuttya Nappe at the top of the accretionary wedge. This olistostrome is associated with the Sloboda Conglomerate derived from the fore-bulge at the foreland of the Boryslav-Pokuttya Nappe. The second one is the Middle Miocene Lanchyn Olistostrome with olistoliths of strongly deformed molasse deposits. These olistoliths were slid from the uplifted front of the Boryslav-Pokuttya Nappe. The Lanchyn Olistostrome was deposited at front of this nappe in a foredeep basin.

Opis:
Authorial comprehensive comments and explanations are given to some of the interpretations applied in the tectonic part of the newly published Geological Atlas of Poland (Nawrocki, Becker, 2017) that considerably change the hitherto generally accepted concepts. It should be, however, admitted that most of those "new’" solutions were already proposed in the past by other workers as hypotheses that could not have been tested in the then state of knowledge on Poland’s deep geology and scientific tools at hand. This has now changed with abundant new data obtained with modern seismic techniques and advanced methods of potential field modelling. Using those data, we justify the reasons for, among others, a significant eastward shifting the front of the Variscan Orogen in Poland andfor the accompanying change in position of the division line between the Precambrian and Palaeozoic platforms. We also show the rationale for accepting a far-reaching southwestward extent of the East European Craton’s crystalline basement below the Palaeozoic Platform and for reinterpretation of the Teisseyre-Tornquist Zone’s nature, together with the question of early Palaeozoic terranes in the TESZ and the situation of the Caledonian foredeep at the SW margin of the East-European Craton.

Opis:
Twelve time interval maps have been presented which depict the plate tectonic configuration, paleogeography and lithofacies for the circum-arpathian area from the Late Carboniferous through Neogene and for the circum-Ouachita region from Late Cambrian through Early Permian. The following geodynamic evolutionary stages can be distinguished in these two orogens: Stage I - rifting of terranes off the major continent, forming oceanic basins (Triassic-Early Cretaceous in the Carpathian region, Cambrian-Devonian in the Ouachita region); Stage II - formation of subduction zones along the active margin, partial closing of oceanic basin, development of deep-water flysch basin associate with this rifting on the platform (passive margin) with the attenuated continental crust (Late Cretaceous-Paleocene in the Carpathian region, Early Carboniferous in the Ouachitas); Stage III - collision, perhaps terrane-continent, with the accompanying conver- gence of two large continents, development of accretionary prisms, Eocene-Early Miocene time in the Carpathian region, Late Carboniferous in the Ouachitas; and Stage IV - postcollisional, (Miocene-Present-future? in the Carpathians, Permian-Triassic in the Ouachitas). Both, Carpathians and Ouachitas are accretionary prisms formed in response to terrane-continent and continent-continent collision. The paleogeographic approach we have taken shows how these mountain belts were constructed through the orogenic cycle, which reflects complex plate tectonic processes. Carpathians and Ouachitas record complete and homologous Wilson cycle.

Opis:
Field and laboratory works realized in last years allowed us to redefine one of the lithotectonic units of the western Sudetes, till now considered to be composed of Cambrian to Lower Carboniferous, stratigraphically coherent, volcano-sedimentary succession, as the Lower Carboniferous, probably lower Visean, wildflysch-to- flysch succession. This unit forms the westernmost part of the Kaczawa Complex and is situated at the boundary zone between the Kaczawa Mts. (Polish Sudetes) and the Görlitzer Schiefergebirge (Germany) or - at a larger scale - between the Sudetes and Lugian tectonostratigraphic zones of the Variscan orogen. Petrographical studies of rocks sampled from the larger allochthonous bodies (olistolithes and slide-sheets) of the wildflysch sequence have revealed some peculiar features of the lithic composition of this succession. They consist in the presence of: (1) - unmetamorphosed and metamorphosed volcanites with a distinct HP-overprint, characteristic of supra- subduction zones, gabbro-type plutonites, and relatively numerous detrital chromite grains indicating the occur- rence of ophiolite ultramafics in the source area; and (2) - large block(s) of rock composed of quartz (almost 100% SiO 2 ), previously interpreted as Palaeozoic quartz vein, now documented by the authors to be totally silicified primary evaporites, composed of gypsum (selenite), anhydrite and salt. The last finding would be of special significance as the first strong evidence of evaporites within the Variscan orogenic complex in Europe, if further studies confirm proposed here tectonic position of the silicified evaporites. General lithic composition of the Jędrzychowice/Ludwigsdorf wildflysch detrital material is characterised by the presence of such litholog ies, as: black and gray-to-green cherts, black shale mudstones and cherts, (turbi- dite-)siliciclastics, carbonates (both bioclastic and diagenetic), basic and acid, unmetamorphosed and epi-to- HP-metamorphosed volcanites, and gabbros and ultrabasites (the latter noted only by detrital chromites). Moreover, the siliciclastic material of the olistosthrome matrix discloses the presence of acid magmatic (granites) and high-grade metamorphics of gneiss-to- mica-schist type in the source areas. Such a compositio n of detrital material clearly reflects a typical tectonic mélange as the source terrane for the wildflysch deposit. It would mean that the Jędrzychowice/Ludwigsdorf wildflysch should be considered as the next, strong and unequivocal signal of large-scale tectonic mélange stage in a tectonic/geodynamic evolution of the Central European Palaeozoic orogenic system.

Opis:
This paper reviews the tectonic genesis of the Telfer Au-Cu ore system in the Paterson Orogen, NW Australia. Most previous tectonic interpretations have focused on the regional compression-related tectonic processes. These interpretations, however, could neither explain the tectonic deformation nor the distribution of mineralisation. Tectogenetic analysis indicates that the Telfer deposit comprises two overlapping structural domains, both developed as a result of the upward propagation of basement fractures. The first domain represents a local compression-shear-related regime that initiated tectonic deformation and tectonic shortening of the host rock. This regime had a limited role in the mineralising processes. The second, more important regime for mineralisation control, is associated with local shear-extensional tectonic processes. At deposit scale, concurrent development of a normal dip-slip movement along the earlier formed bedding surfaces and the basement propagated steep reverse-slip shearing along NW-SE (S2) trending structures, parallel to the strike of the Paterson Orogen, are the most important tectonic processes of this domain. Bedding surface extensional openings and development of second order structures with N-S (E3) and NW-SE (E2) orientation controlled the tectonic genesis of the majority of orebodies and mineralised zones forming the Telfer ore system.

Opis:
Tectonic development of the Variscan belt in Central Europe included, besides important compression, also an extensional phase related to gravitational collapse, which governed the origin of many sedimentary basins and magmatic bodies. One of these bodies is the Benešov pluton, featuring primary magmatic fabrics as well as deformational fabrics, related to subsequent extensional stages. Recognition of these fabrics and their links to other significant extension-induced structures in the Bohemicum and Moldanubicum not only sheds new light on the pluton itself but also extends a general knowledge of deformational stages, accompanying gravitational collapse of the Variscan orogen. The authors found that this pluton was strongly strained in a normal-faulting regime under brittle-ductile conditions. The age of deformation is constrained by a magmatic age of 347 ±3 Ma and by the age of Carboniferous sedimentary cover. New data indicate a three-stage extensional history during the phase of gravitational collapse: (1) Tournaisian extension (~350–345 Ma) within arc-related tonalitic intrusions; (2) late Viséan to Serpukhovian extension (~332–320 Ma), connected to the brittle-ductile unroofing and origin of a NE–SW basin system; and (3) Gzhelian to Cisuralian extension (~303–280 Ma), related to normal faulting and sedimentation in “Permo-Carboniferous” troughs, elongated NNE–SSW. Consequently, the gravitational collapse studied involved a complex succession of individual extensional stages, rather than a simple process.

Opis:
This article discusses regulations on the management of rock mass resources more broadly than previous literature in this area. Significant changes in the directions of globalization development as well as the transformations and disruptions of existing raw-material supply chains and changes in their structure call for verification of and changes in regulations on raw-material management in individual countries, not only in the UE. The article examines the current EU regulations and their amendments in Poland. The article presents problems that have arisen during works on the necessary regulatory reform of the following policies: development, spatial (land-use), raw material, geology and mining, environmental protection, and waste and water management. The article shows that strategies, policies, and regulations prepared simultaneously, which were to be correlated with the horizontally integrated National Development Concept, are not. This should effectively enhance the country’s raw-material security. Deficiencies have been highlighted both in assumptions and procedures adopted in developing said documents. The author also emphasizes the need to balance competing values and make necessary choices when specific solutions affect at least two competitive areas, e.g. mineral deposits vs. water, farmlands or woodlands, critical infrastructure, housing, investment in the defense sector. The need is highlighted to rationally and sustainably manage resources and country space, to protect and explore them, and plan their management. The author justifies the need for a new Act of the Code status -that comprehensively and consistently regulates both the management of rock mass resources and land and water resources, and the country space management.
Artykuł obejmuje ocenę regulacji gospodarowania zasobami górotworu w szerszym zakresie niż to dotychczas w literaturze przedmiotu miało miejsce. Autor uzasadnia potrzebę przygotowania zupełnie nowej ustawy o randze kodeksu, kompleksowo i spójnie regulującej gospodarowanie zasobami górotworu, gruntami i wodami, ale też przestrzenią.
