Opis:: In the article I discuss selected aspects concerning the semantics of expressions related to the notion of purpose in Polish: celowo [purposefully], celowy [purposeful], niecelowy, bezcelowy [purposeless], niecelowo, bezcelowo, bez celu [purposelessly] (in rough approximation of meaning). My starting point is the question mentioned in the title, i.e. where to “locate” the purpose one has in mind in sentences with celowo [purposefully]: whether it is external to what is indicated by the sentence predicate (ktoś powiedział coś celowo ‘somebody said something purposefully’ → somebody said something [p] in order to achieve something else [q], something other than the mere fact of saying p), or whether we mean the internal purpose, related strictly to the predicate (somebody destroyed something on purpose → somebody wanted to destroy it, destroying it was his purpose here). The ambiguity of sentences with the adverb celowo, as well as the adjective celowy, can be resolved by identifying the type of the verb in the position of sentence predicate. However, this is not a completely reliable test, and one can always come across sentences ambiguous in that matter (cf. celowe działanie → ‘action on purpose’, action having purpose in itself, or ‘purposeful action’, action directed towards some purpose). All the expressions mentioned above are being further analyzed in terms of “purpose localization”. This kind of distinction is followed by another one, connected with sentence perspective – either objective or subjective. What matters here is whether the speaker has in mind the agent’s purpose (external or internal → subjective perspective), or whether the speaker ignores the subject’s goals and estimates his action from the point of view of some objective aims fixed by the speaker himself, as in sentences: Rząd podejmuje bezcelowe działania [The government undertakes purposeless actions] or Przywrócenie pracownika do pracy byłoby niecelowe [Bringing the employee back to work would be purposeless]. Finally, we have three different “purpose locations” in sentences with the expressions in question, thus, three different “types of purpose”: subjective internal purpose, subjective external purpose and the objective one (the latter being always external to what is indicated by the sentence). Some of the analyzed expressions point to the type of purpose unambiguously (bezcelowo, bezcelowy, bez celu), others are ambiguous, expressing one of the two (celowo, niecelowo) or even three senses (celowy).

Opis:: W artykule przeanalizowano kilka obiektów o konstrukcji szachulcowej w wieku ponad 100 lat znajdujących się na terenie Wielkopolski. Omówiono ich aktualny stan techniczny, występujące destrukcje elementów drewnianego szkieletu nośnego i stropów drewnianych ze ślepym pułapem, podając główne przyczyny ich złego stanu technicznego: niewłaściwe zabezpieczenie drewna od wpływów zawilgocenia, wywołujące korozję biologiczną, szkodniki drewna, niewłaściwie przeprowadzone remonty i przebudowy wnętrz, wpływ drgań wywołanych zwiększonym ruchem pojazdów, niewłaściwe izolacje lub ich brak na elementach wystających z lica budynku (gzymsy, balkony).
The constructions of several objects with half-timbered structures over 100 years old located in Wielkopolska were analysed in the article. The current technical condition, the occurring destruction of wooden frame elements and wooden ceilings with a blind ceiling, giving as a main reason for their poor technical condition were taken into consideration, it means: improper protection of wood against the influence of moisture, causing biological corrosion, wood pests, improper repairs and interior conversions, impact of vibrations caused by increased vehicle traffic, improper insulation or lack of insulation on elements protruding from the face of the building (e.g. cornices, balconies).

Opis:: In the paper an implementation of signal processing chain for a passive radar is presented. The passive radar which was developed at the Warsaw University of Technology, uses FM radio and DVB-T television transmitters as ”illuminators of opportunity”. As the computational load associated with passive radar processing is very high, NVIDIA CUDA technology has been employed for effective implementation using parallel processing. The paper contains the description of the algorithms implementation and the performance results analysis.

Opis:: In the western porch of Lady’s church there are two almost identical tin stoups in the shape of wash--boiler resting on three lion paws. The only thing that enlivens the smooth plains of the vessels is two stripes of inscription written in capital letters. The two stoups have been mentioned in various documents, as to the date when they were made. It is assumed that come from the end of the eighteenth or the beginning of the nineteenth century. None of the researchers took interest in the fact that those two metal stoups have been preserved in one church, and they both come from the times when cast stoups were an exception. One can assume then one of the stoups primarily played the function of a font. It was no longer a font in the second half of the fourteenth century after a bronze font by Ulricus had been put into the sanctuary. One question is left to be answered as to where the above-mentioned stoups were made. It is highly probable that they were made in Cracow by a founder who came from nothern Germany. Numerous analogies point to his origin, since there are very similar stoups in nothern Germany, in Eddelack and Nordled. The former comes from the end of the twelfth and the latter from the eighteenth century.

Opis:: Information management is of great importance to an organization. The quality and quantity of information influence the decision-making conditions, and with the increase in their value, the risk of failure and the uncertainty of undesirable effects are reduced. To a large extent, the accuracy of the decisions made depends on the quality of information held by the recipient. For the proper functioning of the organization, it is essential that the information acquired, processed, developed and circulated is of appropriate quality, i.e. it has a set of characteristics that determine the usefulness of information defined by the users. The article emphasizes that it is the effectiveness of the organization’s information system on which it depends to whom, in what form and on what level the information of the desired quality will be provided. Moreover, it was pointed out that it is necessary to systematically examine the information needs of the organization in order to meet the users’ expectations and the need for the organization to have the capacity to systematically reject useless information, information overload, and information selection.

Rezultaty dyskusji dotyczącej wybieranych przez nich i pomijanych celów stały się okazją do rozważań obejmujących refleksje na temat przyczyn sporu o cele wychowania, upatrywanego przede wszystkim w kryzysie kultury normatywnej nowoczesnego świata.
Every human action should include an aspect of purpose. For this reason, the very difficult task such as upbringing a human being cannot be deprived of this dimension. During the period from 2006 to 2013, issues related to educational purposes were discussed in the course of university classes. These lessons covered selected aspects of upbringing children and youth and were conducted with pedagogy students. The results of discussions concerning aims which were either chosen or rejected by students became an opportunity for reflection on the core of the dispute over educational aims. Its main cause was primarily seen through the spectrum of crisis in the normative culture of the modern world.

Opis:: Knowledge of the medical-psychological and socio-cultural determinants of physical activity (PA) and mental health is still unsatisfactory. A dominance of diagnostic over explanatory studies and a focus on the association of PA and mental health status with unmodified demographic variables characterizes most research in this area. The aim of the proposed project is to determine PA levels and psychological adaptation to stress among students from Poland and Belarus in the context of different anti-pandemic strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. John Paul II University of Applied Sciences in Biala Podlaska (Poland) and Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (Belarus) were chosen for the study, as despite the universities being located a relatively small distance from each other, they are in different countries and subject to different anti-pandemic strategies. The proposed survey will include approximately 800 medical and health sciences students (approximately 400 from each university). Nine standardized survey instruments will be used: IPAQ-SF, MBI, SWLS, CECS, GSES, Mini-COPE, STAI, TSK, and GHQ-28. The outcome of the research will be the identification of the medical-psychological and socio-cultural determinants that influence psychological adaptation and PA levels of students experiencing different anti-pandemic strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stan zaawansowania wiedzy na temat medyczno-psychologicznych i społeczno-kulturowych uwarunkowań aktywności fizycznej (AF) i zdrowia psychicznego jest wciąż niezadowalający. Obserwuje się wyraźną dominację badań diagnostycznych nad wyjaśniającymi oraz skupianie się jedynie nad związkiem AF i stanu zdrowia psychicznego z niemodyfikowanymi zmiennymi demograficznymi. Celem projektu jest określenie poziomu AF oraz psychologicznej adaptacji do stresu wśród studentów z Polski i Białorusi w kontekście różnych strategii antypandemicznych w trakcie pandemii COVID-19. Akademia Bialska Nauk Stosowanych im. Jana Pawła II (Biała Podlaska, Polska) i Państwowy Uniwersytet im. Janki Kupały w Grodnie (Białoruś) zostały wybrane do badania ze względu na fakt, że uczelnie te, mimo, że położone są w stosunkowo nieznacznej od siebie odległości, znajdują się w różnych krajach i różnicuje je strategia antypandemiczna. Badaniem sondażowym zostanie objętych około 800 studentów kierunków z obszaru nauk medycznych i nauk o zdrowiu (ok. 400 z każdej uczelni). Zostanie wykorzystanych dziewięć standaryzowanych narzędzi badawczych: IPAQ-SF, MBI, SWLS, CECS, GSES, Mini-COPE, STAI, TSK, GHQ-28. Zakładanym rezultatem badań będzie określenie medyczno-psychologicznych i społeczno-kulturowych uwarunkowań, które wpływają na adaptację psychologiczną i poziom AF studentów przy różnych strategiach antypandemicznych w czasie pandemii COVID-19.
