Opis:
This paper adopts the concepts of observatory and competitive intelligence (CI) to model a system that will generate better insights for decision-makers in the solid waste industry. The first part of this work is to design and develop a data warehouse (DWH) of solid waste statistics using data assembled from disparate sources. Our methodology of design is the entity relationship diagram (ERD) and our implementation tool is MySQL running on phpMyAdmin. The second part of our work will be to turn our developed DWH into a Web application using the Yii PHP component framework. Our findings indicated that the application of both concepts of observatory and CI lead to better insights for decision-makers and hence better organizational performance.

Opis:
Praca dotyczy niektórych metod obliczania odchylenia linii pionu w aspekcie prawidłowości obliczania wartości oraz możliwości wykorzystania wysoko dokładnych modeli geopotencjału do obliczania odchyleń linii pionu. Podjęto próbę określenia rzędu wartości pierwszych poprawek Mołodeńskiego z wykorzystaniem przybliżenia wysokości quasi-geoidy i odchylenia linii pionu w regionie górskim w międzynarodowym obszarze badań geodezyjnych w rejonie Alp Zachodnich. Uzyskane różnice między prawdziwymi i obliczonymi składowymi odchyleń linii pionu można wyjaśnić błędami astronomicznych wyznaczeń składowych odchyleń linii pionu podlegających wpływowi zerowego i pierwszego przybliżenia pola anomalii. Różnice między modelowymi i prawdziwymi składowymi odchyleń linii pionu można uzasadnić nieuwzględnieniem wpływu strefy centralnej pola anomalii.
This work is generalization of some methods for calculating deviations of plumbing lines from a perspective of accuracy of their values calculation and possibilities to use high accuracy models of geopotenthial for calculating deviations of plumbing lines. There was done attempt to determine the order of the value of the first corrections of Molodensky into Stoke approximation of quasigeoid heights and deviations of plumbing lines in the mountain region of the International research geodetic testing area in the region of Western Alps. Established discrepancies between true and calculated components of plumbing line deviations can mainly be explained by errors of astronomic determinations as components of plumbing line deviations includes in fluence of the zeroth and first approximation of field of anomalies. Differences between model and true components of plumbing line deviations can be explained by not considered influence of central and close zone of anomaly field.

Opis:
Astro-Geodetic Observatory in Józefosław, witch belongs to the Departament of Geodesy and Geodetic Astronomy of the Warsaw University of Technology, started to permanent observations in 1958. First of them was time service started in February 1958, coordinated by BIH. From 1959 astrometrial latitude measurements have been done with aim to determine the parameters of the Earth rotation. In 1991 the Observatory was joned to the International GPS Service for Geodynamics (IGS) and started to operate as a permanent one in 1993. There have been performed many observations and scientific researches, such as: GPS in the frame of IGS/IGLOS/EUREF; tidal observations; absolute gravity measurements; changes of the vertical, based on the gravimetric measurements; astrometric observations and metrology. Moreover studies on RTK and DGPS measurements using mobile phone for data transmision are performed since 1998. WUT EUREF Lokal Analysis Centre, one of the 17 Lokal Analysis Centres acting in Europe, is a very important part of the Observatory. The Centre makes continuous service of one-week and daily aolution in the farme of EPN network, processes national and international GPS campaigns (CEGRN, EXTENDED SAGET etc.), models ionosphere and troposphere parameters, compute tidal components and changes of the vertical according to astrometric and gravimetric measurenents. This paper present history and current state of the art of the Observatory's activites.

GNSS positioning performance assessment is essential for sustainable development of a growing number of GNSS-based technology and socio-economic applications. Case-studies of GNSS positioning performance in critical environments and applications scenarios reveals vulnerabilities of the GNSS Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services, and suggest mitigation techniques and GNSS application risk containment. Here we address the case of GPS positioning performance during a devastating tropical cyclone Marcus that hit the greater area of the city of Darwin, Australia in 2018. We identified specific statistical properties of time series of tropospheric contribution to GPS northing, easting, and vertical positioning error that may contribute to understanding of tropospheric effects on GPS positioning performance during a massive weather deterioration in maritime and coastal areas, and analysed their adversarial effects on GNSS-based maritime applications.

Opis:
Comparison of gravimeters relative to absolute measurements is frequently used method for determination of gravimeters scale factor. This technique as completely non-invasive is especially important in periodic control of continuously recording gravimetres. We used 30 repeated parallel observation of LaCoste&Romberg spring gravimeter with FG5 ballistic gravimeter in Józefosław Observatory carried out in last 40 months. Long series of repeated measurements allow us for comprehensive study on utility of calibration with this procedure. Different computational approaches was performed. Temporary variation of LCR scale factor with accuracy assessment aer comsidered. Discussion concerning reliability of calibration dependent on measurements length was also given.

The paper presents the usage of mathematical theory of evidence in maritime and offshore applications. This paper brings together a collection of some research on the Dempster–Shafer theory of belief functions. By bridging fuzzy logic and probabilistic reasoning, the theory of belief functions has become a primary tool for knowledge representation and uncertainty reasoning in expert systems. This paper can serve as the authoritative reference in the field of evidential reasoning and an important archival reference in a wide range of areas including uncertainty reasoning in artificial intelligence and decision making in maritime and offshore applications, in management, engineering and transport, in marine shipping, coastal management, navigation, surveillance, monitoring and observation. In particular the paper describes uncertainty reasoning approaches to decision making in maritime and offshore applications, possible applications in safety-based assessment, Coastal Management Expert System, mathematical theory of evidence in marine navigation, the optimisation problem of monitoring stations distribution and finally the facility location and location science.

Opis:
In his youth Johann Hevelius visited many European countries, including France. There he possibly met Marin Mersenne and Ismael Boulliau, and certainly Pierre Gassendi and Athanasius Kircher. Later, for decades, it was Pierre Des Noyers (1606–1693), a secretary of Queen Louise Marie Gonzaga, who played a very important role in the astronomer’s contacts with French scholars and with both French and Polish royal courts. Des Noyers certainly made his first visit to Hevelius’ observatory at the beginning of 1646, when Louise Marie, the new queen of French origin, arrived in Poland. This visit gave rise to many personal contacts, a lively correspondence and collaboration between Des Noyers and Hevelius. In 1648, a group of envoys led by Count Louis d’Arpajon came to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and they stayed in Gdańsk (Danzig) for a long time. They made the acquaintance of Hevelius; especially among them François Bernier (1620–1688), a student and long-time companion of Gassendi, later the author of an important outline of his philosophy. Bernier returned to France via Italy where, at Hevelius’ request, he purchased for him lens glass in Murano near Venice. Years later he again rendered a service to Hevelius: Bernier’s account of Hevelius’ observatory helped to place in 1663 the Gdańsk astronomer among the scholars financially supported by Louis XIV (with an annual pension paid to him for nine years). Consequently, Hevelius dedicated two of his works to Louis XIV: Cometographia (Gdańsk 1668) and Machinae coelestis pars prior (Gdańsk 1673). Hevelius, like Tycho Brahe before him, had the opportunity to play host to crowned heads at his observatory and his home. During the negotiations in Gdańsk for the Peace Treaty of Oliva, King John Casimir and Queen Louise Marie visited Hevelius. It was then that Des Noyers watched with admiration the astronomer’s sophisticated observatory, which in those days was the largest observatory in Europe. In 1661, on his way to the Polish royal court in Warsaw, Ismael Boulliau (1605–1694), a famous French astronomer and “political scientist”, stopped at Hevelius’ place and stayed there for quite a long time. The two astronomers carried out joint observations. In his letters, written from Gdańsk, Boulliau admired the instruments built by Hevelius and his efficacy in using the instruments. Later, the two exchanged dedications to each other in their published papers. Yet, “Fig. W” in Hevelius’ Machinae coelestis pars prior (Gdańsk 1673) does not portray Boulliau, as some claim, but an astronomer’s assistant. In Autumn 1663, two brothers – Armand and Antoine de Gramont, the sons of Marshal de Gramont, who fought in King John Casimir’s military campaign against Moscow – visited Hevelius’ observatory. Hevelius mentioned their visit in one of his letters. In the early 1670s, Des Noyers stayed in Gdańsk for a longer time. He left for Warsaw during the reign of Michał Wiśniowiecki who appeared to be hostile to France. In his letter to Boulliau Des Noyers described receptions in the astronomer’s house and observations he made together with other learned people from Gdańsk. When he came again from France in late 1679, Des Noyers was a sad witness to results of the tragedy that had struck Hevelius in September of that year, when his house and his observatory were burnt in a fire. Des Noyers and Boulliau mourned in Paris at the news of the disaster and at the possible loss of the manuscripts of unpublished Hevelius’ works. Luckily, those had survived. However, the astronomer’s sophisticated instruments had perished in the fire. That was why, visitors from France who followed had no longer a chance to see famous Hevelius’ instruments. In Autumn 1681, Jean Francois Regnard (1655–1709), in later years a well-known poet and author of comedies, visited Hevelius. Subsequently, he reported his discussions with Hevelius and presented him as a great supporter of the Copernican theory. Undoubtedly, French envoys and courtiers, such as Vaubreuil and Darcy, visited Hevelius on their way to the Polish court via Gdańsk. Through them Hevelius sought – unsuccessfully – to renew his pension from Louis XIV. The King of France gave him only a one-time subsidy in the aftermath of the fire. At an unspecified time Hevelius was visited by François Paulin Dalerac, a courtier of Queen Maria Kazimiera; this visit is mentioned in Dalerac’s memoirs. Maria Kazimiera, unmarried at that time, might have accompanied Louise Marie during her visit to Hevelius’ observatory. No records are available to prove that she visited Hevelius as another French queen of Poland. Her husband, John Sobieski, visited Hevelius’ place many times and took part in observations, first while a Marshal and later as the King of Poland, Jan III (John III). All in all, we can name ten persons as conclusively identified French visitors to Hevelius. Among them there were one queen, two warrior-aristocrats, two diplomats, one courtier, one poet and three scholars.

Opis:
The article presents the results of measurements of gravity performed in the Astronomical and Geodetic Observatory Józefosław. Time series have been verified for parameters related to celestial bodies, atmospheric pressure changes and metrological factors. The analysis of these changes includes geodynamic and hydrological aspects taking into account global and local changes in groundwater levels. The aim of the article is to indicate the interpretation of contemporary measurements of gravity field against the contemporary accuracy of such measurements and to indicate the need for information on the level of groundwater (collected by the Polish Hydrogeological Survey) in procedures for the elaboration and interpretation ofgravimetric measurements and supportfrom hydrogeologists. Contemporary the gravity measurements with use of absolute gravimeters gives possibility determination of gravity value with uncertainty of the order 10-8 ms-2. Such accuracy corresponds to a vertical displacement of a point of less than 1 cm or a change in the water level of 2.5 cm. Use of gravimetric methods in the broadly understood Earth sciences must be supported by information related to changes in mass distribution around the measuring station, mainly related to the groundwater level changes. This allows to see the role of hydrogeological information related to the monitoring of groundwater as an indispensable information describing changes in the Earth’s gravity field.

In this paper we used 40 months (2007-2010) of continuous gravity measurements to study different tidal phenomena. The records are taken from the Observatory in Józefosław equipped with LaCoste&RombergEarth Tide Gravimeter. Tidal gravity parameters in diurnal and semi-diurnal bands are computed using international standard data processing techniques. Accuracy assessment, as well variation in time of those parameters are given. Long series of consistent data allow to investigate in small signals such as gravity changes due to ocean loading. Subtracting body tides from results yields a differences up 1 uGal which are in good agreement with computed indirect ocean effect using most recent models. It clearly explains main source of disagreement between results from measurements and tidal models, despite of long distance to mearest ocean. Paper deals also with barometric pressure influence on gravity measurements. Importance of reducing pressure variation in tidal analysis is discussed and admittance factor is computed.
