The article formulates the need for studying the problem of hate speech, which is a form of discrimination, in sociolinguistics. The author describes the experience of studying discrimination in Western science (interdisciplinary approach) as well as aspects of formulating the notion in international and Ukrainian legislation. The paper also tracks the linguistic principles involved in examining the problem. The prospects for further research consist in the unification of category content and the meanings of the terms discrimination, discourse discrimination and hate speech in sociolinguistics with the purpose of applying these categories as tools for analysing the language situation in Ukraine.

This article is an analysis of an essay written by Zinaida Gippius and published in the spring of 1924 in issue No. 19 of an influential emigration periodical Sovremennye zapiski. Her statement came to light in the historic moment when the white émigrés were firmly convinced that their safe return to Russia was impossible. In her essay, the author characterizes the works of Soviet writers from the perspective of the year 1924 and categorizes them into those who were able to preserve the notion of beauty in the new post-Revolution reality and those who irrevocably lost said concept. In the works of the latter the author notices nothing but the images of the nightmare of the daily life, entirely devoid of any artistic value. Gippius blames Bolshevism for the profound negative consequences of the changes which occurred in Russian culture after 1917.

The offered paper is devoted to research of methodological prospect of „cultural code” notion when the basic comparison linguoculturological (ethno)culture – (ethno)consciousness – language triad is studied. The author grounds the expediency of introduction of „complex comparison standard” method as a mechanism of tertium comparationis determination when linguoculturological comparison of comparative phraseological units in allied and non-allied languages, in which cultural codes are taxons connecting main semiotic system – the language and the culture, is made.

В данной статье рассматривается идея простора как феномена экзистенциально-эстетического порядка. В работах, посвященных творчеству М. Цветаевой, простор не был предметом специального изучения, хотя идея простора занимала поэта, а образы простора также представлены в значительном объеме как в ее прозе, так и в поэзии. В статье прослеживаются способы и направления расширения значения понятия простор в творчестве Цветаевой. Идея простора не была объектом специальной рефлексии поэта, однако простор становится достаточно прочной характеристикой пространства жизни и пространства смерти, простор она находила в действиях и предметах, в людях и отношениях с людьми, в себе самой, что давало ей возможность – в том числе, через простор – вступить в отношения со сферой, находящейся за границей действительности, со сферой метафизического.
An expanse, as an existential-aesthetic phenomenon, is almost unex-plored in fact. It is also not considered as a subject of special study in works on the poetry of M. Tsvetaeva, although she was interested in the idea of expanse very much and the images of expanse are represented in her poetry and prose in a significant number. In the article, the directions and areas of a wider interpretation of the notion of expanse in the works of Marina Tsvetaeva are designated. The idea of expanse was not the object of the poet’s special reflection. But it is a frequently encountered characteristic of the space of life and the space of death, as both were described in her poetry and prose. She could find an expanse in actions and objects, in people and relationships with them, in herself. And through that vision of absolute expanse, she could communicate with the transcendental and metaphysical spheres.

Opis:
The analysis of the notion “pedagogical conditions” is represented in the article. On the basis of the comparative multi aspect analysis of the notion “conditions”, the notion “pedagogical conditions” is defined and the main characteristic features are revealed. Pedagogical conditions are analyzed in the paper as a component of a pedagogical system; they reflect the environmental opportunities effecting personality- and process-based aspects of the system, enhancing its successful functioning. Different groups of conditions guaranteeing the effective functioning of pedagogical system are considered. The peculiar properties of three groups of pedagogical conditions (organizational-pedagogical, psychological-pedagogical, didactic) are disclosed.

Zagrożenie stereotypem może dotyczyć wszystkich uczniów, którzy należą do stygmatyzowanych grup określanych mianem mało zdolnych. Niepokój związany z perspektywą potwierdzania negatywnego stereotypu jest istotnym czynnikiem pogarszającym wykonanie zadań przez osoby nim objęte. Zjawisko to stanowi szczególne zagrożenie dla dzieci i młodzieży, są one bowiem bardziej podatne na jego wpływ, a ulegając stereotypowi niskich zdolności, osiągają gorsze wyniki w procesie edukacji. W artykule zagrożenie stereotypem zostało przedstawione w kontekście teorii atrybucji B. Weinera. Jego celem jest lepsze zrozumienia możliwych mechanizmów występujących w procesie samooceny jednostki. Przedmiotem rozważań są także czynniki redukujące zagrożenie stereotypem związane ze zmianą postrzegania inteligencji i zdolności jako cech wrodzonych, a także czynniki środowiskowe mogące stanowić źródło dodatkowego wsparcia. Wnioski z dokonanej analizy mogą być pomocne w pracy z uczniami zagrożonymi stereotypem, a tym samym przyczynić się do zwiększania ich szans na sukces szkolny.
A stereotype threat can relate to all students belonging to stigmatized groups referred to as less gifted. The fear of confirming a negative stereotype is an important factor adversely impacting the branded persons’ capacity to carry out tasks. This phenomenon is a particular risk to children and youths as they are more prone to be affected by it and who, by submitting to the stereotype of being less gifted, achieve poorer educational results. The article presents the stereotype threat in the context of Bernard Weiner’s attribution theory. It aims at providing a better understanding of the possible mechanisms in the process of an individual’s self-assessment. It also touches upon the potential factors mitigating the stereotype threat connected to a change in perceiving intelligence and skills as inborn traits as well as environmental factors that could be an additional source of support. The conclusions may be helpful when working with students threatened by stereotypes and thus contribute to their chance of achieving an academic success.

Rosnące zainteresowanie naukowców zagadnieniem starzenia się i starością zdynamizowało w ostatnich latach pole badań gerontologicznych, w tym badania nad uczeniem się i edukacją osób starych. Wielość wątków, jakie podejmowane są w ramach gerontologii edukacyjnej, świadczy o żywiołowości rozwoju tej subdyscypliny, a bogactwo dorobku, zwłaszcza empirycznego, wskazuje na społeczną ważność poruszanej problematyki. Natomiast istnieje stosunkowo niewielka liczba opracowań teoretycznych z tego zakresu. Potrzeba ich tworzenia jest niezwykle ważna, prace takie pozwalają bowiem na krytyczny wgląd w praktykę edukacyjną. Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie zmiany pola znaczenia pojęcia edukacja osób starych. Zmiany te dokonały się na przestrzeni ostatnich kilku dekad i związane są z paradygmatycznymi przejściami jakie miały miejsce w naukach społecznych – od modernizmu przez teorię krytyczną aż do postmodernizmu. Te trzy podejścia wykorzystane zostaną do przyjrzenia się zmianom jakie nastąpiły w rozumieniu pojęcia edukacja osób starych.
During the last years the increase of interest in old age and aging has dynamized the gerontological field of study including education and learning in later life. The multiplicity of issues concerning educational gerontology indicates the development of this subdiscipline and the social importance of learning in late adulthood. There is a small number of theoretical research papers raising this issue, on the other hand. So, there is a proven need for such research which provides a critical analysis of educational practice. The purpose of this article is to present the semantic change of the notion of senior education. Such a change has occurred within the last several decades and is related with paradigm shift in the social sciences – from modernism, through critical theory, towards postmodernism. This three approaches can be used to understand these changes.

The author undertakes four points: (a) There was no major change in Gilson’s position on Christian philosophy as it was defined and justified in his 1931 Gifford Lectures and later developed in the sixties. (b) During the 1960s, Gilson’s Christian philosophy placed more emphasis on its Christian aspect, faith guiding reason. Earlier formulations emphasized philosophy searching within the faith for what can become rational. (c) During the 1960s Gilson emphasized faith and the Church as the guardian of Christian philosophy, expressed a relative indifference to the validity of rational proofs for the existence of God, and empathized with those accepting questionable philosophical approaches to understand the faith. (d) Gilson’s Christian philosophy fits into the framework of post-modernism.

Ostatnie zmiany zarówno obyczajowe, jak i wpływ innych kultur spowodowały, że tradycyjny zakres pojęcia „rodzina” jako osób powiązanych węzłem małżeńskim bądź więzami krwi nie jest już tak oczywisty. W polskim ustawodawstwie brak jest jednej mającej normatywny charakter legalnej definicji pojęcia „rodziny”. Status tej instytucji i jej skład jest jednak wyznaczany zarówno przez przepisy Konstytucji Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, jak i inne ustawy szczegółowe, przy czym zakres tego pojęcia różni się zasadniczo w zależności od obszaru ustawodawstwa, który rozpatrujemy. Powstaje zatem pytanie, czy istnieje potrzeba, a jeśli tak, to czy możliwe jest stworzenie takiej definicji, która byłaby wspólna dla różnych dziedzin prawa. Artykuł zawiera analizę semantyczną pojęcia „rodzina” w polskim ustawodawstwie ze względu na jego zakres strukturalny.
The recent changes in moral and the influence of other cultures caused that the traditional scope of the term “family” as people bound by the ties of marriage or blood is not so obvious. The Polish legislation does not provide for one legal definition of this term. The family status and its composition is determined by both the provisions of the Polish Constitution and other acts, but the scope of this notion fundamentally differs, depending on the area of legislation which is considered. The question then arises whether there is a need, and if so, whether it is possible to create a definition which would be common to different areas of law. The article contains a semantic analysis of the concept of “family” in Polish legislation on account of its structural scope.

W artykule autor analizuje, czy pojęcie „odpowiedzialność karna” zawarte w przepisach konstytucyjnych dotyczących immunitetu formalnego powinno być rozumiane w ten sam sposób, co tożsame wyrażenie w art. 42 ust. 1 Konstytucji RP. Autor pozytywnie odpowiada na tak postawione pytanie badawcze, powołując się na dyrektywy wykładni językowej (zakaz wykładni synonimicznej i homonimicznej) oraz potrzebę zapewnienia efektywności immunitetu. Alternatywna linia interpretacji – zaprezentowana w wyroku TK P 31/12 i oparta o argument exceptiones non sunt extendendae – zostaje odrzucona. Można zatem wysnuć wniosek, że immunitet formalny chroni przed np. odpowiedzialnością za delikt administracyjny. Autor konstatuje także, że przepisy ustawowe doprecyzowujące immunitet na poziomie konstytucyjnym nie przewidują takich sytuacji.
In the article the author analyses whether the notion of ‘criminal liability’ contained in constitutional provisions relating to formal immunity should be understood in the same way as the identical term in art. 42(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. The author answers affirmatively to such research question, relying on linguistic directives of interpretation (prohibition of synonymous and homonymous interpretation), as well as the need to safeguard the effectiveness of immunity. Alternative line of interpretation – presented in the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal P 31/12 and based on exceptiones non sunt extendendae argument – is rejected. From this one can derive a conclusion that formal immunity provides protection against i.a. liability for administrative infractions. The author observes as well that statutory provisions which precise constitutional regulations on immunity do not cover such situations.

The term “competence” owes its interdisciplinary character to the richness of its semantic contest. Hence, it is used in various scientific disciplines, including the social sciences. The objective of the following article is to look more closely at the notion of competence, that is, how is has been approached in psychology from the late 1950 till today. The article aims at presenting the issues related to the conceptualization of competence. Furthermore, some ambiguities in the nomenclature used by researchers and theoreticians as well as in the way competence is presents have been noticed. It has provoked the author of this article to formulate some specifications. Some efforts have been made to systematize the knowledge in this area. The analsis of competence has finally resulted in the defining personality competence indicators and formulating the basis to mark them out from personal competences. As an illustration of the latter temporal competences have been discussed in some detail.

The article presents conclusions from a semantic analysis of a set of linguistic expressions belonging to units selected in the project “Word of the day”, meaning words with the highest relative turnover in particular days of 2017. This collection includes language expressions related to the notion of danger and insecurity. The study is a proposal to look at this group of linguistic expressions from a cognitive perspective, which allows to capture certain common features in the way of perceiving and depicting elements of reality described by them. Referring, inter alia, the cognitive theory of conceptual metaphors and terms, such as profiling, presents some common elements present in the structure of the meaning of the majority of analyzed lexical units. In this way, an attempt was made to reconstruct imaginary patterns a ecting the way of presenting various kinds of threats in press releases.

Opis:
Artykuł niniejszy poświęcony jest wykorzystaniu kategorii sprawstwa w badaniach migracyjnych. Przyjmuję w nim założenie sprawstwa w ramach struktury społecznej oraz dualizmu struktury i sprawstwa wywiedzione z koncepcji Margaret Archer. Wskazuję na różne sposoby rozumienia i przejawiania się strukturalnych uwarunkowań zarówno na poziomie makrospołecznym (polityka migracyjna, polityka edukacyjna), jak i na poziomie mezo- i mikrospołecznym (uwarunkowania lokalne, rodzinne) oraz intrapsychicznym, a także ukazuję próby uzyskania lub odzyskania sprawstwa przez uczestników badania. Koncentrując się na subiektywnym aspekcie sprawstwa, analizuję pod tym kątem biografie wielokrotnych migrantów. Wykorzystane w artykule wywiady biograficzne pochodzą z projektu badawczego poświęconego słabo znanej w polskiej literaturze kategorii migrantów, jaką są osoby migrujące w dzieciństwie ze swoimi rodzicami dyplomatami, pracownikami międzynarodowych korporacji czy specjalistami wyjeżdżającymi na zagraniczne kontrakty. Osoby te, określane w literaturze mianem Third Culture Kids, coraz częściej stają się przedmiotem zainteresowania badaczy migracji.
This paper is focused on the use of the notion of “agency” in migration studies. I take the perspective of “agency in the frames of social structure” and of the dualism of agency and structure inspired by Margaret Archer’s theory. I indicate different ways of understanding structural conditions and their manifestations on the macro-, meso- and micro level, as well as in the intrapsychic dimension. I also analyse diverse ways ofgaining and keeping sense of agency in one’s life. Concentrating on the subjective aspect of agency I explore biographies of serial migrants. The narrative interviews analysed in this paper were conducted in the frames of a research project dedicated to Third Culture Kids, i.e. people who migrated in childhood and youth with their parents, who followed mobile careers. This category of migrants, rather unknown in Poland, attracts more and more interest on the part of researchers.

Nowe okoliczności i uwarunkowania tworzenia systemu bezpieczeństwa narodowego zaistniały po zakończeniu „zimnej wojny” w końcu XX wieku i wejściu ludzkości w trzecie tysiąclecie z jego nowymi wyzwaniami i nieprzewidywalnością. W następstwie zmniejszenia niebezpieczeństwa konfron¬tacji militarnej z użyciem broni jądrowej, świat stał się bezpieczniejszy tylko pozornie. Obecnie, tj. w XXI wieku, nie ma państwa na kuli ziemskiej, które byłoby bezpieczne wobec zagrożenia ze strony natury lub człowieka. Dowodów na to jest wiele, a ich liczba wcale nie maleje, ma raczej tendencję wzrostową. W całokształcie wyzwań i uwarunkowań bezpieczeństwa globalnego i regionalnego przedmiotem szczególnej troski staje się bezpieczeństwo narodowe, zarówno wewnętrzne, jak i zewnętrzne, co jest zasadniczą treścią niniejszego artykułu. Natomiast celem głównym artykułu byto ujednolicenie i usystematyzowanie pojęć występujących w dyscyplinie naukowej jaką jest bezpieczeństwo narodowe.
The new conditions and circumstances for creating a system of national security have existed since the end of the Cold War; but at the end of the twentieth century humanity has been ushered into the third millenium with new challenges that were theretofore unforeseeable. As a consequence of the decrease in the danger of nuclear confrontation, the world has only seemingly become a safer place to live in. At the moment, that is, in the twenty-first century, no country nor state on this Earth is safe in the face of natural and man-made threats. The evidence is plentiful, and less diminishes than increases in number. Taking into consideration the conditions and challenges to global and regional security, national security, both domestic and foreign, must be of serious concern. This is precisely the topic of this article. The main aim is to provide a uniform and systematic description of the concepts that are used in the scholarly discipline of national security.
