    Artykuł przedstawia poglądy abbé Pluche’a, którego książki były bardzo popularne w osiemnastowiecznej Francji. W Spektaklu przyrody i w Historii niebios chciał wzbudzić w czytelnikach zainteresowanie otaczającym ich światem, bowiem według niego przyroda jest księgą napisaną przez Boga-Stwórcę, a czytając ją właściwie, ludzie mogą zobaczyć opatrznościową opiekę Boga. Aby walczyć z atomizmem i przypadkowością w przyrodzie, Pluche wprowadził do fizyki szereg podstawowych substancji jako fundamentalnych elementów przyrody, z których szczególnie ważne było światło. Pluche poświęcił wiele uwagi problemowi pochodzenia religii i obrzędów religijnych. Według niego monoteizm był pierwotną religią, a bałwochwalczy politeizm to jego późniejsze wypaczenie.
    The article present views of abbé Pluche whose books were very popular in 18th century France. In his Spectacle of nature and The history of the heavens he wanted to stir in his readers an interest in the world around them. Nature is a book written by God, the creator of this nature, and by reading it properly, people can see the providential care of God. To combat atomism and randomness, Pluche introduced in his physics many elementary substances as foundational elements, of which particularly important was light. Pluche devoted considerable attention to the problem of the origin of religion and religious rites. For Pluche, monotheism was the original religious faith and idolatry was a later religious development which was basically a perversion of monotheism.

    Opis:
    Maryse, a postmodern novel by Francine Noël, offers an ironic look at the baby boomers’ uncertain axiology. We focus on the multiple levels of irony inherent in the portrait of the characters of the novel. Our analysis of the ironic discourse has two interpretative components. First, we closely examine the dialogue between two characters, lovers, which reflects, as in a mise en abyme, the baby boomers’ generally accepted idea of the couple. Second, we study the ironic discourse of the couple from the social perspective, as seen through Maryse’s sentimental affair, whose personal and professional journey exemplifies the intertextual game found in other French classic novels (Marcel Proust’s À la recherche du temps perdu and Quebecois novels (Gabrielle Roy’s Bonheur d’occasion). Key words: The postmodern novel, the couple, intertextual game, the baby boom generation, the literary portrait of a protagonist, the ironic.

    Opis:
    Decreasing water level and shortage of water is being a major problem worldwide. For agriculture purpose this problem gives rise to the use of alternative sources of water. Most of these water sources are affected by the discharge waste of effluent from various types of industries like mining, textiles, chemical etc. Due to reason this effluent may contains many organic toxic substances that could have hazardous impact on human health. In addition, technological development has contributed to increase other industrial dumping that contaminates surface waters. The irregular disposal of industrial effluent has created pollution problems since this effluent is disseminated in the environment or is accumulated in sediments, aquatic organisms, and water. In this paper a solution for this global issue has been addressed and strategies have been suggested for this problem.

    W niniejszej publikacji prezentujemy fragmenty książki Jeana Bellemin-Noëla zatytułowanej Tekst i przed-tekst, bruliony wiersza Oskara Miłosza z roku 1971, jednej z pozycji założycielskich zrodzonej we Francji praktyki badawczej znanej jako krytyka genetyczna tekstu. Praca Bellemin-Noëla stanowi prekursorską próbę metodycznego ujęcia literackiego procesu twórczego na podstawie analizy zachowanych rękopisów, notatek i szkiców poety. Zgromadzony korpus tekstów, nazywany „brulionami”, poddany został klasyfikacji i opisowi, następnie zaś sekwencji odczytań służących rekonstrukcji kolejnych etapów powstawania utworu. Badacz zwraca uwagę na czysto „techniczne” aspekty korpusu będące świadectwem zmian zachodzących w kolejnych redakcjach wiersza. Zmiany i korekty kompozycyjne, składniowe, leksykalne, a także skreślenia czy dopiski – świadczyć mają o procesie myślowym kryjącym się za aktem twórczym, będącym – jak podaje Zofia Mitosek – procesem nie tyle przekazywania, ile tworzenia znaczeń.

    The article studies the narrative schemes in Acts in order to show how the apostles and other Christians became witnesses of the Resurrection. After his Resurrection in Lukes Gospel, Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would enable the apostles to be witnesses to the events of Salvation. In Acts, Peter and the apostles choose Matthias to be a witness, since he was present from the beginning of Jesus' ministry through the Resurrection. Peters Pentecost discourse to the Jews gathered is similar to Pauls defence of Jesus Resurrection in Acts 13, in that both the apostles and Paul become missionary witnesses to all the things Jesus did, particularly proclaiming his Resurrection. Paul, therefore, becomes a creditable witness to Jesus on account of Gods calling and the Holy Spirit. His speeches in Acts are proof that he knows the Resurrected Christ and has received the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit makes Cornelius a witness though Peter, Paul receives the Holy Spirit through Ananias, enabling him to prophesy and witness to Jesus to the ends of the earth. Narrative techniques in Acts aim at showing the reader the way to becoming a witness.

    In his novel entitled L’Opium du ciel (2017), Jean‐Noël Orengo narrates the adventures of a special drone owning a conscience. This steel creature will suffer some modifications which will revise his former identity. The libidinous machine becomes a spiritual entity. Hereafter, he aims to find the meaning of Life. He understands that the catastrophe is imminent because of the depravation of all values. Nevertheless, there is still hope : the cycle of metamorphoses will erase all. The drone will be the prophet of this renascence. The old world and its violence related to sexual desire will be cleared in favor of a more harmonious Earth.

Ebony has been instrumental in development of committed poetry, the modernity of which initiates a rupture in the declamatory style of the Negritude. Irrespective of the forms of epitext or peritext modeling, the editors’ comments constitute unique modes of representation of literary creation; the main objective of this article is to discuss them.

    Recenzja poświęcona jest napisanej we współpracy sześciu autorów pracy Comi-canalyse. Eine Einführung. Recenzent przedstawia rudymentarny zarys badań nad literaturą komiksową, charakteryzuje i ocenia treść pracy oraz wskazuje na jej istotność w rozwijaniu badań nad tym rodzajem literatury.
    The review is devoted to the work Comicanalyse. Eine Einführung, written in collaboration of six authors. The reviewer presents a rudimentary outline of research on comic book literature, characterizes and evaluates the content of the work and points to its importance in developing research on this type of literature.

    This paper proposes a methodology in identifying key production processes in an interdependent production system. Previous approaches on this domain have drawbacks that may potentially affect the reliability of decision-making. The proposed approach adopts the Leontief input-output model (L-IOM) which was proven successful in analyzing interdependent economic systems. The motivation behind such adoption lies in the strength of L-IOM in providing a rigorous quantitative framework in identifying key components of interdependent systems. In this proposed approach, the consumption and production flows of each process are represented respectively by the material inventory produced by the prior process and the material inventory produced by the current process, both in monetary values. A case study in a furniture production system located in central Philippines was carried out to elucidate the proposed approach. Results of the case were reported in this work.

    This paper discusses the derivation of a set of dynamic load factors for calculation of walking response on the basis of measurements made during a biomechanics research carried out with young adults. Firstly, a quite large number of experimental data on single footstep force were collected. The single footstep forces were then superimposed to generate the force time history for a continuous walk. This was followed by the transformation of the resultant force to the frequency domain from which the dynamic load factors for the first ten harmonics of a pacing rate can be extracted. A statistical analysis was employed on the dynamic load factors to acquire their design values in terms of the 90-th or 95-th percentile. The waking force function recommended by various design guides and that developed in the paper were then used in a comprehensive finite element model to predict the vibration level of a building floor. Current design guides on floor vibration normally suggest using four harmonics in the walking force whereas load factors for ten harmonics were developed in this paper. The acceleration response of the floor was found to increase by 5-33% when walking harmonics beyond the fourth harmonic were considered. The inclusion of higher harmonics would therefore lead to a more conservative estimation of the floor response.

    The production of native corn at regional level is greatly limited by the seasonality of rainfall, availability of adequate lands, poor fertility status of the soil, high input costs and constraints of resources of the local corn growers and/or producers. The challenges of reduced cultivable area give very little opportunity for increasing production area in a sustainable manner; it is important to note that the soil recover their fertility status through crop rotation and prolonged rest period (> 25 years) known as sequential agroforestry system or "milpa". During 2015, corn collections were performed in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico that included five races from the Yucatan (in localities of Nohacal and Peto) and Campeche (Calakmul, Suc-Tuc, Sakabchen, I Chek) states. The races identified were: 1) Nal-Tel (gallito), 2) Dzit Bacal, 3) Xnu’uc Naal (Tuxpeño), 4) Palomero and, 5) Tabloncillo. The local varieties, Pix Cristo (Knees of Christ), Eh Hu (Purple maize) and Chac Chu’ub (Chac´s Blood or Red maize), are included within the Tuxpeño (Xnu´uk Naal) race. The land race of corn that is in imminent danger of extinction is Nal-Tel, characterized by its precocity and ability to escape periods of low rainfall; is important to rescue it for adoption to the practices of local and regional production. The adaptation of this race as a germplasm is important due to its resilience to climate change itself. Palomero, Tabloncillo, Pix Cristo, Chac Chu´ub and Eh Hu can thus be used in traditional food industry, to preserve the traditional knowledge and to provide opportunities for additional income for the local, rural communities. Yellow Palomero and Tabloncillo races are new records of germplasm for the region; and hence essential is exchanging their seeds among local producers and growers.

    This article examines The Beatles’ classic animated film, Yellow Submarine (dir. George Dunning, 1968) in terms of its appeal to multi-demographic audiences. While it has become de rigueur to argue in favour of Yellow Submarine as an artefact of the late-1960s counter-culture, its status as a children’s film has largely been overlooked. This article will argue that Yellow Submarine invites, and is able to sustain, a range of interpretations, particularly regarding its dual status as a quintessential film for children and family audiences, and as a much more adult-oriented production that captures the revolutionary spirit of the period. While Yellow Submarine embodies aspects of late-1960s British and North American culture, the author argues that the narrative transcends national cultural specificities and attempts to appeal to universal human desires and emotional states through its balancing of utopian consensus and cultural diversity, and through the galvanizing presence of The Beatles.
    W artykule przeanalizowano film animowany Żółta łódź podwodna (reż. George Dunning, 1968) pod kątem atrakcyjności dla widowni międzypokoleniowej. Film ten jest zwykle pozycjonowany jako artefakt kontrkultury późnych lat 60., jego status filmu dla dzieci pozostaje w dużej mierze przeoczony. Autor dowodzi, że film ten zachęca i daje podstawy do wielu różnych interpretacji. Tyczy się to zwłaszcza jego podwójnego statusu jako zarazem filmu dla dzieci i widzów kina familijnego, jak i produkcji zorientowanej na dorosłych, oddającej rewolucyjnego ducha tego okresu. Autor wykazuje, że choć Żółta łódź podwodna ucieleśnia konkretne aspekty brytyjskiej i północnoamerykańskiej kultury późnych lat 60., to zawarta w tej animacji narracja wykracza poza narodową specyfikę kulturową i przemawia do uniwersalnych ludzkich pragnień oraz emocji, tak przez wizje utopijnego konsensusu i różnorodności kulturowej, jak i dzięki elektryzującej obecności The Beatles.     The orchid flora of Puebla State represents 16% of the total species present in Mexico demonstrating rich biodiversity. However, several municipalities in the north-east of Puebla area are located within a conservation priority area for its tropical montane cloud forest and tropical rain forest due to decision of the Comisión Nacional para el Conocimiento y el Uso de la Biodiversidad of Mexico. We have recorded 93 species from Cuetzalan del Progreso with 25 new records of the flora of the state. These new dditions thereby currently increase the orchid flora of Puebla to 197 species. Of these, six species are classified as threatened, three as subject to special protection by the NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 and one classified as least concern by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Moreover, we recorded 37 species illegally traded in “tianguis” (informal markets) of Cuetzalan del Progreso. The orchid diversity in the fragmented forests can be harnessed in establishing a model for the sustainable management and to promote conservation action f species at some level of threat and in the restoration of areas with fragmented forests. Unfortunately, the orchid diversity has been seriously endangered by several anthropogenic factors. We have also recorded significant anthropogenic threats in this municipality for the long-term existence of the local orchid members and species with potential for commercial production. A viable approach will be to allow the introduction of in vitro germination program and organic production of orchids by local and fringe communities; this will reduce inhabitants’ dependence on the scarce forest resources, lessen illegal harvesting and trafficking of wild orchids, and at the same time provide economic development for the local communities.

    A great part of important buildings involved in the World Heritage have suffered to be forgotten during several centuries. As the public authorities have now clearly noticed the touristic potentialities and defi nitely understood the necessity to transmit these master pieces to the next generations, structural experts have often to play a great role in restoration works. This paper concerns the Our Lady cathedral in Tournai (BE) whose architectural richness has encouraged UNESCO to recognize it as part of the World Heritage at the beginning of the 21st century. Unfortunately, serious geotechnical problems have, along the centuries, induced the occurrence of structural disorders that affect now the roman nave and the gothic choir as well as the "transition style" transept that constitutes the subject of the present paper. After a quick introduction to the concerned historical and architectural contexts, the paper presents most of the pathologies that may be directly captured by direct observation in the transept of the cathedral. Then, the interdisciplinary campaigns carried out for achieving a better knowledge of the situation are described; the collected information is summarized as well as the Finite Element studies that have been carried out in order to get a sharp understanding of the problems. They are based on simplifi ed macro-models taking a crack propagation process into account and they outline the interest to install a monitoring system proposing a permanent structural survey. The effectively installed system coupling pendulum, settlement gages, crack opening captors and clinometers is described. The interpretation of the information collected during a fi rst period is proposed and the interest to design a temporary stabilization structure is then discussed. The simplifi ed Finite Element simulations leading to the effective design of these structures are described and the solution that has been effectively installed is illustrated, briefl y summarizing the challenges associated with the implementation of a future permanent stabilization of affected masonry arch systems.
    Duża grupa ważnych zabytkowych budynków z Listy Światowego Dziedzictwa trwała w zapomnieniu przez kilka wieków. Jednak obecnie władze wyraźnie dostrzegły ich turystyczny potencjał i zrozumiały konieczność zachowania tych arcydzieł dla następnych pokoleń, toteż eksperci specjalizujący się w tematyce konstrukcji zaczęli odgrywać istotną rolę podczas rewaloryzacji tych obiektów. Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy Katedry Notre-Dame w Tournai (BE), której architektoniczne bogactwo skłoniło UNESCO do uznania jej za część Dziedzictwa Narodowego na początku XXI wieku. Niestety, w ciągu wieków poważne problemy geotechniczne wywołały uszkodzenia konstrukcji, występujące w romańskiej nawie i gotyckim chórze, jak również w transepcie w "stylu przejściowym", który stanowi przedmiot poniższej pracy. Po krótkim wprowadzeniu w kontekst historyczny i architektoniczny obiektu, artykuł przedstawia najpoważniejsze nieprawidłowości jakie można dostrzec w trakcie bezpośredniej obserwacji transeptu katedry. Następnie opisano analizy interdyscyplinarne przeprowadzone dla uzyskania lepszego rozeznania w sytuacji; podsumowano zebrane informacje, podobnie jak badania metodą elementów skończonych wykonane w celu dogłębnego zrozumienia problemu. Bazują one na uproszczonych makro-modelach uwzględniających proces propagacji pęknięć oraz proponują zainstalowanie systemu monitorującego pozwalającego na stałą obserwację konstrukcji. Opisany został skutecznie zainstalowany system, składający się z wahadła, mierników osiadania, czujników wychwytujących pęknięcia oraz inklinometrów. Zaproponowano interpretację informacji zebranych podczas pierwszego okresu obserwacji, a następnie przedyskutowano kwestię czasowej stabilizacji konstrukcji. Opisano uproszczone symulacje metodą elementów skończonych, prowadzące do optymalnego projektowania takich konstrukcji, oraz rozwiązanie, które zostało skutecznie wprowadzone, krótko podsumowując wyzwania związane z wdrożeniem planowanych rozwiązań trwale stabilizujących naruszone systemy kamiennych łuków.

    Golvers Noël, Two new letters from Michael Boym, SJ in Europe (1656; 1658), and the editorial dossier of his various European works on China (Dwa listy Michała Boyma SJ do Europy (1656; 1658) i edytorskie dossier jego rozmaitych prac powstałych w Europie na temat Chin).Both items, now in Munich but originally from the library of Jacob Golius in The Hague, represent two so far unknown autograph letters of Michael Boym (1656; 1658). The contents reveal his initiatives to get his manuscripts (Atlas; Medicus Sinicus and a so far unknown title on moxibustion) printed. Both letters are also the first documents which shed a clear light on the network between Rome and the Amsterdam printer Blaeu, in which were involved Jacob Golius, his brother in Rome, the Carmelite Caelestinus a Sancta Lidwina, and the Antwerp hagiographers Bollandus and Henschenius; this was the same network as the one behind the printing process of Martini’s Novus Atlas Sinensis.
